Been wanting to try this place for a while after running past for years, and finally did. After spontaneously showing up for happy hour and not getting in, I made a rez and was super excited to try their oyster happy hour special. At my appointed time, the dining room was pretty empty, so I was surprised when the hostess told me that our table would be downstairs. I had no idea there was a downstairs! The stairwell was really dark and sort of treacherous, and I didn't know why I couldn't sit upstairs but I gamely followed the hostess to our table. Downstairs is a whole vibe with blue walls and a bar set up, but it smelled like a candle had been lit to mask the smell of basement. AKA it smelled like a basement. The menu consisted of four separate pieces of paper that even our server had trouble navigating. I ordered the oyster happy hour special. The wine was great but the oysters were just okay, served with beet horserashish (?) and mango hot sauce (??). My husband ordered the eggroll and the fried chicken with caviar, also just okay (the chicken was juicy and cooked really well, but the caviar was lost in the experience--not even sure this is the right vehicle for caviar!). The star of the show was the No Regrets slider, which was sublime. As was the wine! A person who was not our server came over to tell me about the wine I ordered and he painted a whole picture if the vintner and the winery and was himself a whole vibe. We emerged from the basement to be surprised that it was still light outside. We couldn't decide if the place wants to be Russian with its caviar theme or...what with the eggroll/fried chicken/lamb italian beef, all of which sounds great but I'm not sure how it all ties together. Oh, and they seem to be aging beef in a dorm fridge next to our basement table. If you want an oyster happy hour, do Swift and Sons. Go for the wine, try to sit upstairs.
