I had the chicken entree dish, it was okay but I wouldn't get it again. It had a sweet flavor which threw me off, but the chocolate chip cookie dessert was delicious.

Went here in January 2023 before the announcement that the 3rd Avenue location was closed. Really enjoyed my experience at this location and this place lived up to the hype and making a reservation in advance. The burger was a perfect medium rare, the sushi was a great appetizer and a great portion with good sushi rice flavor. The ambience at this location was especially excellent. I guess if you're reading this go to the location that is still open, cheers

I am stunned and saddened to learn that this location is CLOSED (!). This location has always held a special place in my heart for elegant, warm and memorable meals (lunches, dinners, celebrations) and now it is inexplicably gone. As with every experience I have had here, the restaurant has always been full of patrons (turning away - with polished professionalism and decorum - those unlucky or uninformed about reserving ahead or arriving early enough to get a walk-in table). The top-notch and caring service, the wonderfully prepared dishes and dining experience in the moodily lit and spacious booths all combined to keep me coming back to this location for years. The Park Avenue location is smaller, tighter and a bit less special. The bar area can be a lot of fun for drinks and a bite if you're lucky enough to get there crazy early. The main dining room lacks the privacy and distant staging of tables of 3rd Ave, so any loud talker can easily disrupt quiet enjoyment of a meal. And with the closing of 3rd Ave, access to Park Ave will become more difficult as displaced patrons will surely impact one's ability to secure a table in the future. RIP 3rd Avenue. Hillstone, we hope you reconsider!
Be the first to ReplyHillstone Citicorp was consistently busy.
I am stunned they closed this location. I had just booked a reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday for later in January which was accepted. Guess we cannot show up to a shuttered location. Say it 'aint so, Hillstone; say it 'aint so.

The restaurant itself is quite massive with large booths and a circular bar area with additional seating. We hadn't made a reservation so were seated at the circular bar area, which was filled with people. It was a fun bar as circular bars are uncommon in NY and it made for a somewhat communal feel. We ordered Negronis which were strong and very tasty. We then split the infamous Spinach Artichoke Dip as well as the Ahi Tuna Salad. Both dishes were delicious and filling. The dip lived up to its reputation and the salsa that came with it cut the creaminess perfectly. The Ahi Tuna Salad was beautifully presented and the mango and herbs in the salad were a perfect combo. Elevated all-American food, while not inexpensive is very satisfying.
Be the first to ReplyVisiting NYC for a wk with my mom.
We just walked into Hillstone 3rd ave at 4pm on a Sunday to have a meal. We were immediately turned away by the hostess"Goral." She said we didn't have a reservation & the waiting list is closed. Huh? I've never heard of a wait list being "closed." Restaurant was not busy & no one else was waiting for a table. I mentioned the about 20 empty tables & she said they're reserved. I guess she's expecting 30 people to all come in at the same time. Definition of a hostess: an individual employed by a restaurant to welcome and seat guests. Needless to say my mom & myself were not seated nor did we feel welcomed at all. She clearly has been trained or took it upon herself to pick & choose whom she wanted to dine & this restaurant. Such blatant discrimination. Pompous, arrogant, attitude. I will stay far away from this establishment.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot! Easy to get in.
Fried chicken sandwich was delicious. Love the quality of the chicken and kale slaw that comes in the sandwich. Shoestring fries great too. Dim lighting and chic and cozy ambience. Fast and friendly service
Be the first to ReplySuper long wait despite reservations.
The decor is nice and intimate. Nice staff. Food came out quickly. Ok prices. I just wouldn't come here again due to the fact that the food wasn't that great. I was so excited for the spinach dip and it was bland. If I were to visit again, it'd probably be for lunch. The chicken sandwich was the best item of the night. Pressed sushi was next. The ribs were small, fries were good if you like shoestring. Nigiri was ok. I loved the crush drink.
Be the first to ReplyYes all the way.
This is my all time go to place. Lunch or dinner never disappoint. A long over due review. Also, same great rating to sister restaurant at Hackensack location in NJ - Houston's - equally 5 starts.

I've heard great things about this restaurant for a long time so I was excited to finally check it out last night. It was a Saturday night and both the bar and the restaurant were busy. The setting is pretty cool, dimly lit, interesting art, very vibey. The food was incredible. We split the spinach dip, two sushi orders, and a French dip (split is an overstatement as I ate the entire thing). This was more than enough food. The service was noticeably great- very attentive, fast and friendly despite how busy they were.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great, I had a steak noodle salad.
If you don't mind your entree on a sweet side, I would definitely recommend it. The bartender who kinda looks like Tom Holland was also great and very attentive , even though it was very busy!
Be the first to ReplyThoroughly enjoyed our experience at Hillstone.
The food was exceptional, especially the Thai Noodle Salad, amazing. The French Dip sandwich had the most tender prime rib and the au jus was delicious. Start the meal with the spinach artichoke dip. Our server Chloe couldn't have been any nicer and accommodating. Her smile alone brightened up our day. Love the ambiance/decor.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a great meal and great drinks at Hillstone.
Ribs, sandwiches, seared tuna and more, you really can't go wrong here. The martinis are great, and they have an extensive cocktail menu. Make a reservation! They've definitely picked up again since COVID (Ah, the days of being able to stroll in and get a reservation regardless), so be ready to wait if you walk in.

Psychical insult and worst experience everThe worst experience ever! I was shocked the way the manager Handled situation when I have been psychical and verbally insulted by other costumer. After the other party left the manager started blamed everything on me when I said that I will report it to the police. I have all video proves of the whole incident. Definitely will proceed... so no one else will experience the situation like

My wife and I dropped in for lunch and yes the food is excellent as are the beverages. The ambience is perfect for a quiet meal. The star in their crown, however, is the uniformly professional, cordial and joyful waitstaff and reception. All were just perfect.

Hillstone has always been a favorite of mine, from the typical great service to the great dishes. However last night i was VASTLY disappointed.First, every drink took FOREVER to receive. EVEN MORE SO, one of the olives my girlfriend has in her drink had a legitimate SPLINTER in the middle of it, which she almost ate . . . Second, servers would attempt , what seemed like every other minute, to clear our plates when we were not even half-way done. I'm talking appetizers & entrees. Not even ask, legit try to grab the plate away from us. Truly disappointed, not sure if I will return to one of my classic favorites.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is to die for.
From the salad to the burgers to the wings to the cocktails: everything is so tasty and so so good!
Be the first to ReplyDined at Hillstone for the first time last night and loved
Dined at Hillstone for the first time last night and loved absolutely everything. We are kind of a picky group of four (my husband, my elderly parents, and me) and I cannot come up with one single thing that needed improvement. We started out with stellar chilled cocktails at the bar while our table was being cleared. I had the Crisp Martini and loved it. I tried my Dad's margarita and it was excellent, too. For appetizers we had the famous spinach and artichoke dip, the giant shrimp cocktail, and the Thai steak noodle salad -- all delicious and beautifully presented. We had three entrees for the four of us because the rack of fall-of-the bone ribs was huge. We also devoured the Arctic Char topped with rock shrimp and the epic French Dip. Our sides were creamed corn, broccoli, cole slaw, and pommes purรฉed. Not that we needed dessert, but the Key Lime pie was the best I've tasted outside of Key West and the warm brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was divine. The portions were just right and the staff was extremely attentive. Literally 5 different people kept bringing our food, clean plates, change of silverware, etc. We live in Philly and cannot wait to go back the next time we are in NYC!
Be the first to ReplyI stopped into Hillstone on Park Ave recently on a Thursday
I stopped into Hillstone on Park Ave recently on a Thursday evening, ordered a glass of Chadonnay wine, and met an individual who I spoke to briefly before deciding a short time laterI wanted to leave. I stood at the bar with my credit card out, said "excuse me" to one bartender who was working in front of me to try to pay - who did not respond, then a second bartender, then finally a third bartender - who finally took my card, then passed it to another bartender (I assume to process). When I finally got my card back with the bill, I was shocked to see that for one glass of wine, I was being charged 38 dollars! The bartender who had given me the bill was still standing in front of me, I again politely said "excuse me" to get her attention, and she did not respond. I said "excuse me" again, this time the bartender looked up and I simply asked "38 dollars for a glass of wine?", she looked down again, I said "excuse me again," she looked up and I asked again "38 dollars for a glass of wine?" This time she literally screamed at me over the bar, "Look at your bill!" Still not understanding how I was charged so much, I paid for my $38 dollar glass of wine, and decided to return another day (when the bar was not so packed as it was on a Thursday night) to speak with the manager. It wasn't long before I left, when I realized what had likely been done. There was no way a glass of wine could be that much money, so the bartender had obviously taken the "liberty" of putting the drink (a martini) of the person I met at the bar, who had the drink when I got there, was half done with it when we spoke (for a total of about 10 minutes), and was with another group - and put her drink on my tab! Simply put (and as someone who had worked in the bar industry on and off for over 30 years) - there was no explanation, justification, or excuse for what had been done. Still, when I returned to the bar the Sunday morning (when it would obviously be quieter) to bring this to the manager's attention, I would have been satisfied to simply bring it to the manager's attention so he could make sure that wouldn't happen to anyone else, and perhaps and "I'm sorry and I will speak to the bartender." None of that happened. The overall response could really be summed up in two statements the manager made to me: 1) "I'm sorry your perception" was that the bartender yelled at you (his subtle "play" on words, was obviously immediately noted, and patronizing. As a grown man I know when someone is yelling at me) and 2) Looking at me and saying "If I may ask, why did you wait until now to come in and say something?" (Again, to any reasonably intelligent adult - clearly patronizing, and glaringly insinuating. As if I was being examined/questioned for some reason.) I probably rang off five reasons in about 10 seconds to this individual - not the least of which was I did ask what the charge was about, was yelled at, and opted to return at a quieter, less hectic time to speak to the manager - all more than reasonable. The manager asked for my number, and if he could keep the bill and I provided both (I had a record of the charge), I then left understandably agitated and didn't expect to hear back. To my surprise, I did hear back and got a message from the manager. However, when I did call him back that he simply "doubled down" on his response, behavior, and comments from our original conversation: a confirmation that the bartender did, in fact, add the other person's drink onto my tab (outrageous), but that: 1) I signed the bill (as I told him, to pay for MY wine) and 2) the bartender stated that she 'told me it was the other person's drink" - which was not only an overt lie, but an insinuation that I was lying. Again, a very simple "I'm sorry", "I apologize", and/or "I will speak to the bartender" would have sufficed. Instead, I got deflection, redirection, evasiveness, and insulting insinuation. Not exactly a "model" of good customer treatment or service. Anyone is free to attend this establishment. As for me, I prefer not to attend an establishment where other people's drinks will be put on my tab, when I ask about my balance I'm screamed at, and when I politely return to bring to the manager's attention - I'm insulted with evasiveness and insinuation.

Be the first to ReplyStill my favorite bar in NYC, best burger in the world.
Seafood is always fresh and the shrimp cocktail is almost a meal itself. Recently tried the Tuna Tar Tar and you can see for yourself how awesome it is. Hopefully the live music comes back soon!

Disaster location went downhill! Waited an hour plus for a table . Was not told it would be by the bar- loud & obnoxious people. Given that I came back an hour later and was not specified I think Jasmine and Stacey should have accommodated me as a regular guest- minimal communicated the seating situations. Terrible experience - I came for a quiet meal not a loud bar seating.

Hillstone one of the few upscale restaurants owned by a hospitality group that I would be comfortable revisiting, whether it be in the east or west coast. It's an infallible spot that's great for an intimate dinner, with friends or a date. The menu offers a truly variety of options, ranging from sushi to pork ribs. But I absolutely love their French dip sandwich (as does David Chang). It's made with thinly sliced, slightly-fatty prime rib layered in between a house-made French roll, served with a side of French fries and beef jus.I tried my friend's Dutch Country Chicken, a roasted bird that came with both white and dark meat pieces, and it was exceptionally juicy and well-seasoned throughout. Service was very attentive during our extended stay.
Be the first to ReplyHillstone is still one of my favorite restaurants.
Came for dinner recently because I was craving that veggie burger and had:+ Smuggler's old fashioned cocktail + Double B cocktail + Spinach and artichoke dip + Caesar salad+ Veggie burger with French fries + Apple crispLoved all of the food except for the salad, which was a little overdressed. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time!
