Best dining experience.
Went for our 10th wedding anniversary. The staff was excellent and kind, the food was out of this world. One of the best culinary experiences ever. Worth every penny. I cannot believe the review about the raw chicken, nothing about this restaurant is ordinary. There were two meat dishes during our dinner cooked to perfection. We will be back!

Dining at Hinata is always a pleasure and last night was no exception. Again and again I have been surprised and impressed by the creativity and taste combinations at Hinata. In addition to the very fresh seafood you'd expect at a top Japanese restaurant, chef Tanigawa always manages to incorporate local flavors as well. If no reservations are available on Open Table, try calling directly.

My wife and I went to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Staffs are very friendly and environment is comfortable. Foods were quite ordinary and not delicate as we expected. When one of the courses with Fried Chicken was served, I bite into one of the pieces with RAW chicken meat! I let the server know but were not interested in getting it re-cooked since I lost my appetite. During check-out, the server tole me that since their owner was not onsite, they cannot do anything but they gave me card of the owner and asked me to call him later, and ensure me that he would make it right for us. I did call the owner another day and here came the most interesting piece. After listening my story, instead of sincere apology, the owner , blamed me not "raising my hand to ask for reprocessing" (his original words). OK, this is not Sashimi, it's a fried chicken and nobody should expect raw meat in fried chicken. And no customer should expect being blamed when they complain about the quality of the product. This is common sense of running a business! To summarize our experience, if you are looking for truly delicate outstanding foods and services, go to chicago for those michelin restaurants. They are much more well deserved. Even Vida may be your better choice. If you just want to try some good authentic Japanese food, One Word or Akashi in North side will give you better experiences with 1/5 of the price. Spare yourself and don't go to this restaurant!

My wife and I had the eight course dinner and absolutely loved it. Each course was unique and excellent. Service was superb. Ambience was quiet and classy. We were there a little over two hours, probably not as long as most but we didn’t have any alcohol. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a high quality, authentic, unique Japanese dining experience.

Tried this with some family- we loved it! Food was fantastic and service exceptional. A little pricey but worth it. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area and even if it is a short jaunt - especially if you love Japanese food!

A client/friend of mine made reservations (they do not take walk ins) and needed a second person to go with him. I am glad I did. The menu is set, in this case is was a seven course meal and we opted for the pairing which was masterful. The food, the service and the presentation was amazing. What made it even more astounding was the pairing done by arguably one of the best sommeliers I have had the good fortune to meet. This was a top three meal if not the best I have ever had. Highly recommended.

The wife and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day and our vaccinated state by doing some special indoor dining for the first time in many months at Hinata. Due to the extravagant price point only the elite 1%'s will be able to become regulars, but for special occasions this seems a fine choice. Unmarked from the outside (thank God for GPS) it's located in an office building in downtown Indy. We were ushered thru the cozy narrow main dining room to the back room which we shared with a group of 4 diners- comfortably distanced per pandemic protocols. The restaurant has a nice minimalist Japanese ambiance although the lights seemed a bit bright for fine dining to us. The music was soft unobtrusive jazz. There are 3 fixed-course menus for $69, $89, and $120. The $69 "introductory" menu is only available Wednesdays and Thursdays per their website- am not sure how rigid they are about this. They had preselected the $89 menu for us which was fine. Water was poured immediately but then we waited for 15 minutes before being asked if we wanted a drink menu (um. . .yes?!). That was the only service hiccup- after that it was nicely paced and attentive. There are perhaps 10 wines by the glass along with some (expensive) nicer bottles, as well as some sake selections for sake aficionados (we are not). The meal started strong with a collection of 4 small appetizers- the creamy turnip soup was particularly delicious! A hot egg custard was interesting and different- then on to sashimi and then cooked salmon. A mixed tofu/"hamburger" (ground from filet mignon according to a server) patty finished out the entree part of the meal- miso soup toward the end was especially well made. The meal ended with pannacotta topped with green tea matcha powder. 9 courses in all according to the menu- although they combined 2 of the courses toward the end. Per our server Shane the menu changes at the beginning of each month. I felt comfortably full but not overstuffed at the end- my wife, who is all of 90 pounds, ate almost all of her courses but a struggled a bit more with the quantity of food. We were out the door in a little over two hours. Hinata is an excellent addition to the Indianapolis fine dining scene, and well worth a visit.
