Hop Yik Tai Reviews from The Last Year
Great food
We arrived early for lunch and saw a long queue outside the shop. We realised that it’s the queue for takeaway. We waited a few minutes before getting a table inside as it was busy. Service was quick and the food arrived within minutes. We ordered their signature chee cheong fun and it was delicious. The kids loved it too.
Interesting HK Snack
A great snack to have while you are wandering around in Sham Shui Po. Chunky rice rolls topped with 3 sauces and sesame seeds. I would recommend a small plate to share between two persons if this is your first time. The flavours do not blow your mind but the textures and flavours are very unique and a must try experience if you are in the area. There is a permanent queue that moves swiftly, only a few sitting areas but it is a quick snack and we didn't mind standing next to the shop and finishing out meal (many customers do that). Cash only.
Local Breakfast
Breakfast here is very famous with the locals. There was a long line in front of the cafe and they were all packing up Rice Rolls for breakfast. Run by a family for the last several generations, this is a truly local joint with a few tables and chairs and full all the time. Good one !
Not sure why it’s hyped up
Cannot see the hype about this. Came to this place because I kept seeing it recommended by many online. However, the dish is quite disappointing and average. It wasn’t terrible, but not worth going out of your way for it.
Nostalgic HK breakfast
There is a permanent queue for this little eatery for take away. Arrived at 10.30ish found a table inside- be prepared to share the table with others. Had the signature cheung fan and does not disappoint. If you want pig skin- need to come after 11.30am. Tip: exit C2 & bring cash.
Average
Place was not crowded when we got there in the morning around 10ish. You choose where to sit and be prepared to share the table with strangers. “Cheong Fan” is average, nothing spectacular nor bad. What I dislike was it came with peanut sauce by default. Peanut sauce adds an oily taste to the food. Other sauces the like sweet or spicy are on the table to be added at your discretion. So is the sesame seed. Slice fish porridge is good to wash down the peanut sauce taste. Fried vermicelli is so far the best I have tried in HK

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
