Hugo's Cellar Las Vegas Reviews from The Last Year
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at Hugo's
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at Hugo's Cellar for my anniversary and wanted to write about it. This location right in the heart of 4 Queens and is the epitome of old Vegas vibes. The space is dark, warm and inviting with a touch of charm. We were welcomed by the host with a rose for my lady (lovely touch) and escorted to our table. First I will talk about the pros... The service was superb. All staff and supporting staff were friendly, courteous and helpful regarding the menu options. We were big fans of the table side salad made in front of us and the lemon sorbet pallet cleanser that followed, all excellent! Our food arrived (Duck and NY Strip) and they were delicious, especially for the price. Do not get me wrong this is a pricier establishment but the value of the food with the cost was totally fair. They had a broad menu and I'm sure we will enjoy the food here again in the future! Now just a few of the cons... Regarding the duck, it was tasty do not get me wrong, but could have used a bit more cook time to give the skin a little more char and less chew. Perhaps this is personal preference but still something we noticed. Also a majority of the chairs are NOT designed to keep you there very long. It is very clear this is not a lounge and chairs were lacking in overall comfort and support. And lastly (and I have seen this a lot) the bathroom is outside the actual restaurant and back in the casino. So whatever romantic illusions you had while in the cellar were brought immediately back to earth when trekking through the slots to the bathroom. Overall, delicious food, excellent service and and lovely touch of old Vegas we truly enjoyed. Thank you for the experience.
TERRIBLE- Beware of upcharges and them ignoring severe
TERRIBLE- Beware of upcharges and them ignoring severe allergies. Almost killed my elderly mother and gave no response or tried to apologize for our horrific dinning experience. It was my parents 65th Wedding anniversary and what should have been a beautiful experience and memory turned into a nightmare. They could not have cared less. Below is the letter to general manager. Which received no response. Thank you for sending the itemized receipt to me for our meal on January 7th. While I appreciate that you removed some of the overcharges, I have to say that I'm appalled that you still found it reasonable to charge us for my parent's meal. We explained to you on the first phone call that it had to be sent back to the kitchen due to their steak being full of gristle and it was too tough to cut. The second steak was brought to them in a box after the entire party of 14 had finished eating. So they sat and watched everyone else eat at their party as the guests of honor. As you know, and I explained to you it was their 65th anniversary celebration. Honestly, the overall experience at Hugo's was dismal at best. I worked in the service industry for many years, and even at a low-end restaurant they strive for better service and quality. At a minimum, a meal that is sent back is taken off the check. The second steak that they boxed up and sent in to-go containers was not any better than the first one. My parents ended up throwing the entire meal in the trash. We also told you that our shrimp on the steak and shrimp plates was small and not even close to the advertised so-called jumbo as described on the menu and very undercooked. As you know, my sister and I have been to this establishment many times and have always had a great experience. That is why we chose Hugo's for this special celebration, made reservations weeks in advance, and made the trip downtown when we were staying on the strip. This is supposed to be a highly-rated establishment and frankly, we deserved better service and quality for the price of this meal. Yesterday, I shared with you that my mom told the servers she had a severe shellfish allergy. After eating at Hugo's, she got extremely sick from the salad being mixed with shrimp utensils. On her anniversary celebration, she had a severe allergic reaction that required the use of an EpiPen. She threw up all night and was miserable on a night that should have been special. My sister and I and all of their grandchildren traveled from all over the United States to share this dinner with my parents. This experience ruined 2 days of their anniversary trip. My sweet parents are in their 80s and what happened at your restaurant was not okay or safe for my mom and could have ended with dire consequences. Not to mention my father was stressed and worried and had to care for her in an urgent medical situation due to the carelessness of your staff. People at their age do not just bounce back the next day, she was tired and felt terrible into the following night. Your staff asked us at the beginning of service if anyone had allergies (which I assume is standard protocol) and were told of her allergy. A shift meeting to address the issue weeks later does not begin to compensate for the reality of my elderly parent's situation. Stephen, I do not feel you did enough to right this entire situation. Therefore, I am requesting the contact information for your direct supervisor so that I can share my concerns with him/her. Contrary to what you may think, we are not the type of people who complain. We are happy to pay for great service and excellent food. But between all the extra unsubstantiated charges and unexplained mystery items on the first receipt, my mom's illness, the overall quality of the food and service, it needs to be taken to the next level. Both my sister and I are not satisfied with the outcome. I do feel that your servers treated us with disrespect and thought we would not realize they were upcharging us and adding in extra items. I look forward to a quick response.
WORST 65th Anniversary Party EVER
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER for my Parents 65th ANNIVERSARY and they could have cared less.. This was the letter sent to the general manager with NO respsonse. It WAS AWFUL. We had a party of 14. Why do I always pick a steak
Basically, excessive prices, poor food however the salad was very good. My ribeye ($85) was unseasoned and not a very good cut of meat, had better at Outback and a quarter of the price. Several fingerling potatoes were under cooked. Stacey had the veal scallopini, Oscar style. The sauce was inedible.
What a great dining experience at Hugo's Cellar!! Our first
What a great dining experience at Hugo's Cellar!! Our first time dining here, made reservations 3 weeks before to celebrate our Anniversary. From the moment you walk downstairs you are taken back in time to an old school dining experience where ladies are greeted with a long stem rose and then we were quickly seated at our booth. The table side salad offers so many topping options and so delicious & satisfying. The bread basket has an assortment of different options to enjoy and the Martini drink was enough to refill again & again! We enjoyed our raspberry sorbet mini cone to cleanse our pallets before our main course. Our Tomahawk steak dinner was cooked to perfection, served with 2sides each and the presentation was on point! To close our evening, we enjoyed a complimentary cake dessert and strawberry platter that came with dinner. Everything was superb and highly recommended if you're in the Downtown area. We will definitely be adding this restaurant to our list of must visit when in Vegas!!
A classic old-school Vegas restaurant.
Love the downtown location, the rose for the date and the heavy pour on the drinks.
Excellent Service, Horrible food...
First off, the staff and service was top notch, so this sour review excludes the staff... Hugo's was excellent the last time I was there about six years ago, BUT...this time, the food was horrible when I was there a few weeks ago. Both my friend and I ordered the 16 oz prime rib and we both agreed that it was the toughest, most tasteless piece of meat we've ever had. It was full of gristle, fat and was VERY hard to chew. The rice tasted like it was made in dirty fish tank water and the fingerling potatoes were tasteless as well. Even the diet coke tasted like the smell of industrial floor cleaner. Sadly, the only tasty part of the dinner was the salad cart...In hindsight, my friend and I both said that we should have gone to Tony Roma's across the street. Again...the staff and service were excellent. Basically, it was a hundred bucks for each of us thrown down the drain...Sorry guys.
It's supposed to be well known and been there forever.
Kinda takes you back in time. Great service and they make the salad right in front of u. The Caesar salad was great. Freshly made. The steak was ok. For the price point, I thought it would be sizzling. I ordered med rare but was closer to med. try to order rare next time. Over all good. Steak wasn't top notch I was hoping.
The atmosphere is great and the night started with great
The atmosphere is great and the night started with great anticipation. The lobster bisque and salad were amazing! That was where I should have stopped. I was a bit disappointed with the steak and lobster that was way over cooked.
Great food.
I know the food can be expensive. We all had food that was not steak. Lamb chops, sea food trio, shrimp scampi, lobster bisque. Those were reasonable and very delicious .
Such a wonderful experience! If you are in the downtown
Such a wonderful experience! If you are in the downtown area, I recommend checking out this hidden gem. Reservations are preferable, but I'd say book it ahead of time. Upon entering the downstairs corridor, the loud energy from Fremont dissipates, creating an intimate setting that is less noisy. A host greets you checks you in, and another host directs you to your table. They were both friendly and greeted with a smile. The experience started right when we sat down, and we got situated with water and adult beverages.. And mocktails! Our server, Caesar, and his assistant (I'm sorry I forgot his name) were both great. They were both accommodating and had a great personality. They start with a bread dish and come by with a salad presentation at your table, and you can choose which salad you'd like. There are three options: I had the vinegarette with roasted pine nuts, and two others had the Caesar salad. They give you time between the bread, salad, and entrees to bask in the delicious flavors! After enjoying the appetizers, they give you a small sherbet ice cream to cleanse your pallets. It was perfect! The main entrees were terrific! Take a look. I had the medium rare ribeye with garlic, mashed potatoes, and veggies. The mushrooms were so good that I should have ordered extra. I hope you enjoy this restaurant as much as did. It was a nice ending with family and good vibes!
Sadly, this place has gone downhill.
Last time I was there in 2021, it was phenomenal! Last week, it was a night and day difference. My steak was extremely tough, way overcooked and the crab claws that accompanied it were old and on the verge of bad. Service was just ok. Everyone seemed burnt out and miserable, mostly the salad guy. Too bad, Vegas has too many options for me to eat at this establishment again. A glorified low end chain steakhouse with miserable servers in tuxes at 3x the price.
One of my favorite restaurants In the entire Las Vegas area
One of my favorite restaurants In the entire Las Vegas area great service, exceptional food, and always fun. Check out that salad cart!!
Food is so delicious! We ordered beef Wellington and the
Food is so delicious! We ordered beef Wellington and the duck breast. Worth it. The bar tender was also really funny and welcoming, unlike the rest of the staff, hence the 2 stars. He also gives quite a generous pour. Please note the restroom is OUTSIDE the restaurant. The server and the man who tossed salad were rude and condescending. We noticed them being friendly with everyone but my partner and I. Very snappy, didn't want to serve us, and talked down to us. It was unfortunate as the food was delicious. If you're not old Caucasian people, then you'll probably get mediocre service. My partner was still generous enough to leave a good tip but wow, they're rude if they don't think you'll leave a good tip. I didn't even get to dessert due to having a medical emergency (I had half a shot and it caused my blood pressure to drop and I ended up fainting) but my experience overall was not good here.
Wonderful experience in an old world Vegas steakhouse.
In the basement of the Four Queens hotel on Freemont Street. The area seems to always be packed with people and the hotel is the same. Inside the hotel, you descend down the steps into a wonderful experience at Hugo's. The table side, "personalized" salad is amazing! Service is top notch. I had the NY Strip and while I loved the place itself, the salad and service...the steak was good...just didn't think it was a 5 star quality steak (hence the 4 stars) that said, it's a place I would go back to again.
Want to love this place foe old vegas vibe but can't .
We were there to celebrated our 10 years anniversary, my boyfriend pick the place without telling me try to make it a surprised. We walk to smoky rundown casino area but once you enter the step down to the restaurant itself it kinda nice old vegas vibe since this restaurant been there for over 50 years and they try to keep everything the same way as the day they open. Got greeted with big red rose which is nice but actually every female would get one. Server was nice at first but we told her the food allergy she seems to be disappeared on us. The sommelier come over to see if we would like to order wine, we did order a glass and when server came back we ask for her recommendation on appetizers and we order 1 of the item she did recommended. After a while she came back to see if we ready but were not. We did order one of the bigger serving entrees to split and she seems upset and let us know there going to be $35 splitting plate fee which will come with extra salad and extra side. The table side salad was nice option but they basically just ask what you want and pour dressing on top not even mix it together which is weird I was thinking they would toss everything together. So nothing really special about that. We ask our sever for our appetizer while she bought over lemon sorbets on a little sugar cone to clean your palette, she didn't get the order which is fine we still want it. The shrimp cocktail there were jumbo shrimp come with 3 shrimps per order, it was good but one of them tastes a little under cooked. The entree came out split for us, the food tasted decent not the best compared to the price (strip price but quality is not there) the server came check on us quickly which is nice but never came by to our table again afterwards, she kept walking by but never stop and check on us again which I felt ignored. I am a small eater so I have most of the food left on the plate, nothing wrong but you would think she should ask just in case right but nope. At the end it was busser who came over to see if I would like a box and bring dessert over and different person bought the check to us. We got charged extra for side order which is never mentioned while she taking order. If you looking for some place to celebrate any occasion this is a place to ovoid. If you looking for good food in this price range avoid it as well.
Food was pretty good and cool ambiance Service was great.
Had the prime rib and it was huge portion and very good. Drinks and wine were good and so were the side dishes would definitely come back.
Dinner after Wedding
Had our post wedding dinner at Hugo’s. It was amazing, food, service, wine was all superb. Had the special with King Crab, steak and large shrimp. Everything was very good.
Great birthday dinner overall
Friends of mine recommended coming here for an old school steakhouse experience and it was exactly that. We had a great time and great food. There were a few hiccups that kept thinks from being perfect, but it was a great experience. We sat down and had two of our party stuck in the traffic caused by the closing of the freeways. We hung out and enjoyed appetizers and wine and the staff was very friendly in dealing with the delays. We had excellent wine at very reasonable prices - utterly amazing prices, in fact. We shared a long bone-in ribeye medium. Others had the same, one had a filet and lobster tail special, another rack of lamb, and the last a beef Wellington. The tableside salad was very good. The one downfall of the evening came once we were ready to go. Staff seemed to have moved on to others and we were left scrambling to get the check to get to our show. I am not sure what changed as they were very interested in knowing our timeline up front. I would happily come back here again for dinner.
Usually my favorite Restaurant in Vegas. Hope things have not changed
I have been dining at Hugo Wine Cellar and introducing family and friends to this hidden gem of Las Vegas for over 20 years. This is the first time I have to express how disappointed I was with my meal. I ordered the Prime Rib, as I always do, and upon taking a bite, I found the meat to be cold—even to the touch. It was disappointing, but I requested a replacement. For a restaurant as refined as Hugo Wine Cellar, I expected them to provide a fresh cut of meat rather than simply flash-cooking the same pieces, which alters the flavor. Unfortunately, they did not meet this expectation. I ended up not consuming most of the meat and even brought up the issue, expressing that a restaurant of their caliber should have brought out a new piece of meat. In the end, they compensated with a $15.00 drink. While I understand that mishaps occur, it's crucial how they are handled. I am very disappointed that they did not offer a new cut of meat, and I was further disappointed when they only compensated $15.00 after my feedback. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident, as we always make an effort to dine there. - Doug Bennett
Best dining experience you can ask for!
There are dozens of great restaurants in Las Vegas but we believe Hugo’s is absolutely the best. The place, the food, the service is all above all others. Can’t recommend Hugo’s more highly!!
Great place for dinner!
We did not have a reservation and we were seated immediately. The service was fantastic as well as the food. Loved the ambiance.
Mastro prices for Sizzler Steaks
I haven't written a review in awhile but I am simply astonished that anyone would pay these prices for this place. One of the best steakhouses I have been to in Vegas was in Circus Circus so I didn't let the 4 Queens Hotel location in downtown discourage me from going. Quality steak can be found in the strangest of places in LV. My husband and I had heard a lot of rave reviews about this place and wanted to finally give it a try. Was a mistake! The service is good. The ambience is okay but the dress code is not enforced. The décor is very old school vegas but in a way that feel very cheap instead of dated elegance. Now the food. I give 1 star for absolutely everything. The table side salad is a gimmick for those easily entertained. It was clearly bagged $1 lettuce with limited veggie options. They come to your table in what looks like a dresser fitted with a salad bar. Now the steak.......... i have had better steaks at Sizzlers. Seriously, the ribeye is more expensive than at Mastros and is nowhere close to the same quality and flavor. The atlantic style topping was lukewarm. The only thing edible was the mash potatoes but even those were very basic...something you would expect at a regular diner. I was so completely underwhelmed I sent my whole meal back. My husband finished his filet but said it was the worst steak he ever had as well. If you want the experience.....by all means. But if you want steak that's actually worth the $400 price tag for a table of two then go somewhere else.
Not the same Hugo’s
We have gone to Hugo’s many times. This visit did not meet our expectations. We were seated in an area where the waitstaff went zooming by. I think our table was on the flight path into the restaurant. Waitress was busy waiting on larger tables and not us. Food was good but should be. I don’t know if we will return to our favorite spot again.
Delicious steak dinner experience
What an amazing and delectable experience at Hugo's! I am STILL talking about the tableside salad (so fresh and delicious). Also, as someone who prefers her steak Medium Well/Well (yeah, yeah, I know - please save your cries of outrage, I genuinely enjoy it), I am used to being disappointed or frustrated by the temperature, or having to battle with the servers/chefs, but not in this instance! My steak was cooked PERFECTLY and I absolutely devoured it. I loved the ambiance and experience of the entire evening, with the roses for women, the sunken-living-room-style seating, and the multiple servers per section. I'm also amazed by the amount of food we got for the price, including the chocolate covered strawberries at the end of the meal. Will absolutely return (and thanks to our bartender on the High Roller for recommending it!).
Intimate dining with top-shelf food and service.
From the moment our party of 7 descended the steps into Hugo’s Cellar, we were treated to the finest of dining experiences. Our waiter, sommelier, and salad chef were professional and attentive. All the food was delicious, and the wine cellar was (as one would expect) fully stocked with a wide range of fine and finer wines. The “$$$$” rating is misleading…the cost of a nice steak dinner here will be less than at comparable steak houses in Las Vegas.
You don’t come for the food.
The best part of this 1960’s Rat Pack hangout is our sommelier who has seen it all for 39 years. He was courtly, knowledgeable and gave us some fascinating stories. The ladies received a long stem red rose and our table side salad was quite good. The food is not why you would make the trip. Our friends who have not experienced Fremont street rounds out their Vegas adventure. Downtown is a better gaming experience than the strip and the guys learned to play craps. All considered , we got what we came for at Hugos.
