Iris Memphis Reviews from The Last Year
Sunday Brunch on a busy Sunday for Moms Day.
Crab Griddle Cakes Wedge Salad I had Quiche Lorraine He had Steak and Eggson both!! Sunday Bruch Excellence
Style over substance? How can this place merit its former reputation?
Visited as a couple for a weekend dinner treat, based on the strong online reviews and creole cooking style advertised. The restaurant itself seemed odd in a local strip mall setting, with decor that felt like it was really trying hard to be an upmarket dining room, but in a secondary location. The website had a number of spelling mistakes, which should have been a warning for a fine-dining establishment - my favourite being the section describing the various “Roooms” available. The service was polite and attentive - our waitress was charming. She was excellent throughout. The food, however, was really poor - on a menu that, again, appeared to be trying too hard to be upmarket but slipped into pretentiousness - does anyone know what a “sesame situation” is as a food description?! Starters ordered were BBQ shrimp and oyster stew. The shrimp was adequate, drowned in a mixture that was heavy-handed with something, probably Worcester sauce. The oyster stew wasn’t a stew at all. It was 4 poached oysters served in a small amount of a sort of oyster bisque/reduction. Unfortunately the bisque was very acidic/acrid and therefore unpleasant to eat - I’m not sure what the reason was - too much lemon or vinegar or Worcester sauce perhaps. Mains were red fish and mushroom/fennel (with its sesame situation!). The red fish was nicely cooked. It came with a mix of mushrooms, peas and small roast potatoes which should have been delicious but in fact was almost inedible as the mixture was unbelievably salty. I think it was the mushrooms that were the problem, but surely the chef would have tasted it before letting it leave the kitchen. With the other main, the fennel was overcooked and the whole dish was covered with a strong chilli that overpowered it. The waitress kindly took that dish away and took it off the check. Overall, therefore, we were spectacularly disappointed. Paying these prices, one expects great quality cooking and attention to detail in the kitchen, combined with good service. The service matched up. The food really was poor. A bad day in the office.
FIVE STARS! FIVE STARS! FIVE STARS! That's the post!
FIVE STARS! FIVE STARS! FIVE STARS! That's the post! FIVE STARS! I had the blessed opportunity to take my wife to brunch at Restaurant Iris and I am sooo glad that I did! I highly recommend the Corn & Crab Griddle Cakes, Redfish Clemenceau, and definitely have yourself a Mint Julip while you're there! By the way, did I mention FIVE STARS!
Stop here for a late lunch/ early dinner.
Great little place! Wait staff was awesome, great wine selection and even though the menu was very limited this time of day, my crab cakes were amazing and the largest serving I have ever had! I highly recommend this hidden gem!

Our VP came to town so we gathered the team together for a work dinner at Iris. We could not have been more pleased. The atmosphere and decor are really well done. Our server was fast, knowledgeable, and extremely hospitable - and the drinks and food were so good. You always want the location you pick to impress during a business meal and this one definitely did.
Long overdue review of this wonderful establishment.
We have been coming to Iris since way back when Kelly turned down NBA stars for dinner. I always loved that story, I don't care how embellished it may be. It's great that he even beat him in a one on one game later, who knew Kelly English could even dunk????!!!!! The new location is much larger, has many more seats, and a beautifully decorated interior. It's whimsical and just lovely. The bar is amazing, and even boasts its own menu. They have a Cruvinet machine that holds fine/expensive bottles of wine for sale by the glass. It's great for when you want to try something but don't want to buy the whole bottle. Brilliant! They even have an oyster shucking station right there at the bar. When this location first opened, they had another Chef behind the menu. It was good, but it wasn't Kelly English good.... If you had been to the old Iris, you knew immediately that it was different. Kelly has since taken over the kitchen and implemented his recipes and style back into the heart of the house. I even got the old Surf and Turf "Iris Style" on my last visit. Holy shit! It was so damn good!!! If you've never had it, you are missing out man. Yum. I'm drooling thinking about it. Iris is as good as ever, and now you can actually get a table within a reasonable timeframe because it can now seat so many. There are private rooms available and they even have an exhibition kitchen where KE will cook right there in front of you. What more could you ask for?? Get your ass here now! Did I even mention the seafood hoecakes??? Geez '24 - 30/100
Rude bartender.
There were missing chairs at our table and the bartender was rude when we pulled one of many empty chairs from the bar to our table.
The food was incredible.
The BBQ Shrimp appetizer was unlike any I've ever had and possibly the best appetizer ever. Redfish and Salmon for our main course and both were exceptional. The crab and corn cake appetizer was delish. But couldn't hold a candle to the BBQ Shrimp.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
Service was courteous and efficient The duck gumbo had a chocolate roux and was delicious The oyster salad was TERRIBLE- I only tasted fried cornmeal-never tasted an oyster!!! Over 80$ for 2 glasses of white wine I will never return as this is the second terrible experience I have had at this resturant

Went at 7:30p on a Wednesday with a reservation for two - seemed as though it would have been possible to go without a reservation. Space was clean and well-designed; we were seated in a booth that felt private but not cut off. Waitress was friendly and came by often. The cocktails were well-made but not worth a trip by themselves. The Iris Sour was a fairly standard whiskey sour. The Cat in the Rain was also tasty but not a must-have. The food was almost all phenomenal. The appetizers stole the show - both the barbecue shrimp and the fried green tomatoes were exceptionally well done. The charred bread with the shrimp really made the dish and our waitress was nice enough to offer more of it to mop up the barbecue sauce. The scallops were also excellent, though (as is often the case with scallops) I was glad to have ordered other dishes to complete the meal. I'd have gone home still hungry otherwise. The honey roasted carrots were good but not the best I've had. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Iris restaurant
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Iris restaurant not once, but twice, and each visit was a delightful experience. During my first visit, I decided to try the salmon dish, and it did not disappoint. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were on point. The service was also excellent, making it an enjoyable dining experience overall. After some time, I decided to return to Iris to meet a colleague for drinks. However, I ended up ordering a little snack to accompany our drinks. I chose the barbecue shrimp, and it was an absolute game-changer. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. It was definitely a must-try dish that I highly recommend. While glancing at the menu, something caught my eye - the duck gumbo. Although we were not planning to stay long and wanted to take the food to go, I couldn't resist trying the duck gumbo. It came with basmati rice grits, and scallions. Let me tell you, it was absolutely phenomenal. The flavors were rich and delicious, and it left me wanting more. The combination of the tender duck, flavorful broth, and the accompanying sides was a true gastronomic delight. Although I haven't been to Iris a multitude of times, the two visits I've had were truly satisfying. The second visit, in particular, blew me away with the flavors and quality of the food. I was so impressed that I am already planning to return to Iris in the near future. If you're looking for a restaurant with delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere, I highly recommend giving Iris a try. Whether you're a seafood lover, a fan of barbecue, or simply looking to indulge in some mouthwatering gumbo, Iris is sure to exceed your expectations.
Food was not good at all, beautiful place but for the price
Food was not good at all, beautiful place but for the price you pay it's too blend and plain
Great Cajun food and service was fantastic.
We went for lunch based on recommendations from a friend of mine who lived in New Orleans.
Really
We went for brunch Waited 10 min at front desk as sign requested. After no one came we went into the bar area and took a seat. There were only a few people present. A server came an we ordered glass of wine. My friend and I discussed the menu and each ordered an item from the brunch menu. The check was for just over a 100$ including tip. Now there is a fine line between cost and frequency. The food was great but at that price it will be a long time if ever I return.
Thank God we found you!
I was desperate to find any restaurant in Memphis that had an elegant setting with high quality food that did not involve bbq and plastic forks for lunch. It was quite a search on TripAdvisor but, Iris saves the day! My husband, daughter, and I enjoyed the high quality service, attention to detail, and delicious food. Fish and burgers were excellent and perfectly done.
