Beautiful and delicious food and atmosphere, but overpriced
Beautiful and delicious food and atmosphere, but overpriced for what you're getting. Really enjoyed the pear salad and okonomiyaki. You get a free drink for your birthday. They pay a lot of attention to providing great service. Make sure to make a reservation beforehand.
Be the first to ReplyCelebrated our anniversary here tonight.
Their special Ocean UmamiHokkaido scallops, ikura caviar, uni, nori puree, ume, shiso were so good - like a party in your mouth. Kids had the Sendai ramen and enjoyed it. My husband had the chirashi. My Hamachi Ikura don was good but I felt that the cuts of fish were the thinnest I've ever had at Iyasare to date. My husband gave me his hamachi from the chirashi and it was definitely thicker than the slices on my bowl. That's my sole feedback area - to make sure their cuts are uniform for the bowls. The Brussel sprouts are addictive and I have to ask how they are cooked. The seasoning is so umami and the sprouts are fresh. The desserts were delicious and I'm glad we ordered both. It's not a restaurant we usually visit with our kids but it is Spring Break and I'm grateful the staff were so accommodating and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyNice design and atmosphere and menu, but limited.
Unfortunately, the host was rude, hence the lower rating. Food not up it's Michelin rating.

Went a month ago with friends and I have never had Japanese food like the offerings at Iyasare, everything was based on our server's recommendation and was outstanding. The price was reasonable for what we got, I will definitely go again and recommend this restaurant, especially the sushi and tempura.
Be the first to Replyi ate there yesterday for the first time.
....i meant to go to my go-to restaurant next door, but opened the wrong door. so glad i did! service was superb and the food was phenomenal! can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant. looking forward to working my way through their menu. looked around and all the food looked delicious and all the patrons were silently purring. thank you everyone at iyasare!
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely love this place.
We went for my birthday. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly, my friend and I. Also a birthday card that everyone signed. I thought that was exceptionally special. The food is phenomenal. The service is impeccable. I can't say enough good things about this place.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic menu items.
Really enjoyed the Spicy Edamame. Service was fantastic and helpful. Ramen was tasty and the portions were healthy. There was a nice variety of fresh fish in the Chirashi. Ambiance was perfect. Greeted with good vibes and smiles. Clean dining area (inside and outside).
Be the first to ReplyTop notch Japanese cuisine.
It's always crowded here. It's challenging to get a reservation. Great place for lunch or dinner if you're shopping on 4th Street in Berkeley. The staff are very friendly. Sushi is very fresh and delicious. One of my fav dishes is the Iyasare kakiage tempura with burdock root, onion, sweet potato, shiitake, shungiku, and tiger prawns. It was very nice and crunchy. Also ordered the agedashi tofu & nasu fried silken tofu, Japanese eggplant, ginger-daikon. It was very good. The sushi roll we ordered was a hamachi roll. Delicious.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite restaurants in Berkeley.
We made a reservation in advance and were seated right away. Food was good, ambiance was serene, and service was amazing.

Lovely restaurant Delicious food Excellent service Best veggie ramen but all the dishes looked great
Be the first to ReplyThe dishes are exquisite and fish very high quality.
It's honestly the best restaurant on 4th street, and among the best sushi spots in Berkeley. The service is excellent. The staff are super friendly and mostly accommodating. Great place for a date or hang with friends. If you have a baby or kids that are well behaved, also great too if you go early before the crowds; just expect to sit outside only. Kids aren't allowed indoors-- they don't say that explicitly, but always some excuse about the fire code. Ha, ok. As a parent, I think it's prob best not to ruin the chill vibe inside anyway, and also it's fairly small indoors, and there are equally delicious restaurants in town that are family friendly and open later. All in all, Iyasare is a must go if you're in Berkeley and looking for consistently amazing Japanese cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyHad somewhat high expectations but wasn't that great.
Definitely not bad, but the dragon roll was a little salty and shrimp tempura was tough. The okonomiyaki seemed undercooked and wasn't the worst but definitely not something I would order again. Ended up feeling sick a couple hours later with my stomach grumbling and not feeling so great.luckily that passed after having some ginger tea. Some of the other things people were ordering looked pretty good, so perhaps ordered wrong. Not sure I would go back to try again though. Service seemed good and you can watch the cooks having a great time joking around and stuff in the kitchen.

Just say yes!So the hot chicken will straight clear you sinuses and you will thank whatever God you believe in for it! It a spicy but flavorful. Spicy with purpose maybe And the star of the show is the bacon mochi. Something we have not seen anywhere else but GET SOME ...and you are very welcome Been here several times and the staff, food & drinks are always on point. Oh the joys of not having to pay rent and funnel that money here for more food
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, reasonable prices, friendly staff.
Lots of outdoor seating. We came here for dinner around 6pm on a Saturday. We didn't have reservations but there was space outside. They did tell us they needed the table back at 7:30pm for another reservation, which was no problem for us.We ordered 4 things and liked all of them. The bacon mochi wasn't as crispy as we had thought it would be, but the presentation and flavor were fun and reminiscent of spam musubi. The kakiage tempura is listed as having burdock root, onion, sweet potato, shiitake, and shungiku. I assumed these would all be individual items, but actually, they make a little fried cake out of these French cut veggies. I couldn't tell that there was any shiitake, but the shungiku (chrysanthemum greens) were fantastic. The dipping "salts"/powders were also really tasty. The broth was saltier and less sweet than I'm used to for a tempura accompaniment. The sake (salmon) and ikura don was very good. Excellent quality salmon and generous portion of ikura. The tamago was good. The rice was a little soggy/sour from pickle juice. The hojicha chocolate mousse with chocolate shell was also tasty. The citrus component brought a nice brightness to the dish and the crunchy of the chocolate shell and cookie base were both nice contrasts to the silky/fluffy mousse.Service was prompt and friendly and all together our meal was only a little over $100 after tax and tip. I'd be happy to come back.Parking in the area wasn't bad.Be aware that this location is very close to the train tracks so you will hear the train horn intermittently during your meal.bonito soy brotNote that there are patio table which are near heat lamps, and then sidewalk tables which have no heat lamls.

You'll rarely (if ever) catch me in the East Bay, but gems like Iyasare make the trip well worthwhile! Had a lovely girl's night at this adorable spot. The menu offers up comfort Japanese food and tasty cocktails! The star for me was the Okonomi pancake (sadly not pictured) -- woke up craving more the next morning -- and the bacon mochi!
Be the first to ReplyIyasare is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Berkeley.
My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate Iyasare for Valentine's Day, and the food and service was nothing short of amazing. I made a reservation ahead of time, so we were seated immediately. The server was very kind and gave us several recommendations, and we ordered most of them. For our appetizer, we ordered the Kakiage Tempura w/Black Tiger Shrimp, and it was honestly my favorite item on the table. It was very crunchy and flavorful, and filled with a lot of shrimp! We also shared a Chirashi Don and Okonomi Pancake. The Chirashi Don was filled with a variety of different, fresh sashimi. I liked how the cuts were pretty big and filled you up. The Okonomi Pancake was delicious as well, and unlike other Okonomi pancakes I have tried before, it packed a pickled ginger taste. I will definitely come back again to try their other signature dishes!Tip: Many of the dishes at Iyasare are large and meant for sharing!

Had lunch here with some friends while we were in town and everything we had was delectable! My chirashi-down was superb! It was loaded with tons of quality and high-end ingredients. Truly *chef's kiss*!We also had the tempura which usually isn't my thing but this was divine! I'm not into heavy battered fried products but their tempura was so light and airy, with the right amount of seasoning.I'm taking away 1 star due to the service. We had to wait a long time for our food, and even longer for one person's dish, which arrived almost half an hour after everyone else's :(
Be the first to ReplyZero Star- Hands down Worst service.
We walked in with friends who drove TWO hours to get there to notice they are sitting us right in front of the door in freezing cold. I had called the restaurent TWICE to make sure we have a great table where is NOT cold as I just did a back surgery. We asked to sit somewhere else which they refused. My husband's chair was literally in front of the door which was opened every 2 minutes. They kept mumbling between themselves. Most embarrassing ever as we were treated like kindergarten children. Also. Restaurent smelled like burned oil/food: be aware, be aware, be aware. We will not go back there ever again
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for a special occasion.
They have some unique dishes (I'd never had bacon-wrapped mochi before - pretty good though!) as well as ramen, sushi rolls, steaks, and other dishes you'd expect from a Japanese restaurant. The standout to me was dessert though - the rolled persimmon cake was amazing, get it if it's on the menu!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and super sweet staff! We have passed this
Great service and super sweet staff! We have passed this place many times and decided to try it and it did not fail. The food is fresh! We got the Omakase Chefs Special and Poke Special. The omakase set was really yummy! My fav was the fatty tuna and uni! We also got the poppo yaki which I super packed with flavor and umami. It's very intimate and would defiantly take someone here on a date! Our waitress (ami?) was amazing as well and recommended everything that we ate and we have no complaints. Will defiantly come back here!
Be the first to ReplyIt's got a fancy vibe but the food was just ok.
Some of the cooked fish dishes were slightly fishy. Half the menu is more traditional Japanese food and the other half is more creative/fusion dishes. For the money, I'd rather go to a more traditional japanese restaurant.
