My dining partner chose this place as we were staying
My dining partner chose this place as we were staying nearby and the menu and place appealed to him. I was game and we were able to make reservations ahead of time for a Friday evening. We were seated at the first dining area which consisted of 6 tables. Warm and dimmed lighting and tasteful decor, yet where we sat felt a bit cramped. It also was an extremely high traffic area as every one had to pass by to sit in the back dining area and staff had to pass by to deliver drinks and meals. Lots of wine and cocktail choices but the limited local bottled beer choice came to the table in a can.We did not order appetizers, choosing to focus on the entrees: prime rib and the bone in duck meatloaf. Our waitress said it would be a bit of time for our meals to arrive as everything was made fresh to order, but the dishes arrived relatively quickly. My dining partner loved his thick and perfectly cooked prime rib with accompanying au jus and horseradish. He went crazy over the popover and loved how well it paired with the prime rib. He was in heaven! While I enjoyed the moistness of the bone in duck meatloaf, I really was not able to detect a distinctive duck flavor. It was really good, but not really a standout and still have no idea why they put the bone in there. The fig jus was nice, but for me was not the best pairing for this dish. Service was excellent.I know this is NYC, but I felt the prices were way too high ($75 for prime rib, $38.00 for duck meatloaf). I also think sitting in the back dining room area would have been better, unless you like to be in the midst of lots of hustle and bustle. I was glad to try, but do not think I would go again. However, my dining partner said he loved everything about it and would definitely go back!

Jack & Charlie is the perfect spot for a relaxed dinner or lunch in the spring. Really loved the cozy dark wood homey atmosphere. Food was really great - some of the best brunch food I've had in the city!

solid brunch spot w a fun upscale atmosphere -- super easy to call and get a table & honestly very affordable at the end of the meal omlette was so good- had avocado in it which gave so much flavor + creamy texture to the eggs -- delish! friend loved her eggs benedict + the drinks were awesome but genuinely don't even get me started on the donut. it was as if your favorite cake donut and a churro had a beautiful baby + the coffee cream to dip it in was such a bonus pancake was so fluffy and delicious but which there was syrup on the side (only came with a blueberry sauce which wasn't enough for the plate)

I rarely, if ever, give a first visit 5 stars but we had such a wonderful experience I had to make an exception. The restaurant is dark & cozy. The service was attentive and friendly. Our server walked us through the menu and offered suggestions. We started with the chopped tuna which was phenomenal. For entree we ordered the carbonara, cavatelli and bone-in duck meatloaf. Everything was delicious. For dessert we got the sticky toffee pudding (which was another level) and old fashioned chocolate pudding. This will definitely be on our return list next time we're in the city.
Be the first to ReplyWent there for Sunday brunch and I was impressed.
The service was very attentive and kind. The restaurant serves luxurious American. I went with the very instagram coffee dip and donuts. It was a bit lukewarm on the verge of cold. But still very good. I went with the Prime Rib Grilled Cheese. Boy what a lavish twist to an American classic. Loved it but couldn't finish. (Tasted great even the next day)The winner of the morning for me was the Bloody Mary station. It was fantastic. Add horseradish, tabasco, celery salt, celery, olive and peperoncini. Great experience. The restaurant it self is very handsome and feels like a 30s restaurant. I wasn't a huge fan of the art but overall did like aesthetic.

The ambiance here is nice albeit a bit stuffy (it feels a little like the Upper East Side) but the service was unfriendly and somewhat shocking for a restaurant with these prices. One of the items on the menu was the butternut squash soup, and is sometimes made with chicken stock. I had asked the waiter about what stock was used and whether it was a vegetable or meat stock, and he said "Well, it's butternut squash soup. It's made with butternut squash." I then pushed back and said "Can you please find out for me from the kitchen what kind of stock you use since I'm vegetarian? " and he rudely retorted "It's butternut squash soup. It has butternut squash in it. Why would it have meat?" And I asked again "Can you please find out what stock is used?" And he rolled his eyes and walked away. I was appalled. It dampened mine and my friend's mood because I've never been treated so rudely at a restaurant of this caliber. I've had some bad service experiences at take-out places, but this is a standard question. Most places go through the effort of labeling items as vegetarian or not, but to not understand how a soup is made and that chicken stock is indeed used in butternut squash soup is absurd. When I've been to places like Fresh & Co that are super casual or low-key Chinese restaurant they are even able to answer the question if the soup is not labeled in terms of what stock is in it. So I ordered the beets instead along with the gnocchi since my question was never answered and I was made to feel guilty for asking the question. Both itemswere ok, and the drink was fine, but this really soured my impression of the restaurant. I will never be back and I hope this place shuts down for treating customers the way I was treated. I don't think anyone should be treated that way when they ask about whether an ingredient is in a dish / it is safe for them to eat.

Brunch: omelet was delicious as were the burger and toasted cheese sandwich apparently. Crab cake was " meh"Service was very slow which may be related to cramming people in. Cramped on tiny tables. We (4) had to put the condiments and water glasses on the radiator and sit uncomfortably. Also, noting people have bad days and we should be kind, the hostess was kind of sullen and despite lots of tables free, wouldn't sit 3 of us despite assurance the 4th was mere mins away. It's so annoying. Let us sit and order drinks. Also: no one expects everyone to accommodate all food intolerances but it's not hard to have some GF bread in the freezer. Also, I couldn't have the bacon because of dairy. it came swimming in oil so where was the dairy and why? Showing you can tweak shows you care. It's expensive, no more than many other places but $10-14 for sides? Wow. I'll go for dinner some time as decor is nice and looks cozy for a winter evening but hope they'll iron out a few things first.
Be the first to ReplyGave me food poisoning, but the service was excellent.
Ordered the burger medium rare, and both myself and my friend both got sick from it very quickly after.

I really wanted to give this place a better review because honestly the food and drinks were good, branzino and the duck meatlof were great, the number 1 reason this doesnt get 5 stars is for adding an additional charge for using a credit card especially for a place where youre dropping $100+ per person in the he west village, its not the about the extra charge its the lack of transparency with putting a fee for using a credit card especially considering no restaurant in that area is doing the same thing, there is no mention of this charge on the restaurants website or on their menu. Its hard to see going to a place like this consistently if they don't have the decency to be transparent.

Loved this restaurant! nice west village ambiance / decor with relatively standard menu but good variety considering brunch. Think everyone can find something they like here! Would recommend

The service was immaculate. The food? To DIE for . I had the duck meatloaf and was blown away. Do yourself a favor and get the sticky toffee dessert! 10 outa 10 would recommend

I am sorry to say that given the competition in the neighborhood and prices that they charge, Jack & Charlie's is not good enough. I wanted to give them some leeway because the restaurant is young, but 4 months is enough time for them to work out the kinks. Service was a bit rushed, and the staff seemed nervous and inexperienced,. As for the food, not a single dish was special. Both flavor and texture underwhelmed us with each plate. We ordered from every section of the menu and felt that we could do a better job cooking at home. The steak frites was the biggest disappointment. Fries had no texture, the sauce portion was stingy, the steak was a little overcooked with almost no char, and everything was on the bland side. I hate giving bad reviews, but I hate feeling stung when the bill comes even more.

Came here for a post dinner drink and was really pleasantly surprised! Had no intention of coming here but saw it on the walk home and stopped in. It was super cold out and this was the PERFECT cozy bar. They have a little fireplace in the corner and the drinks are incredible. Really extensive cocktail list. If you're looking for a classy bar, look no further!
Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I finally made it into Jack & Charlie's
My friends and I finally made it into Jack & Charlie's after a few months of reservation planning. We had an earlier reservation, so we were seated right away upon arrival. We pursued the drink menu first, which has a really nice blend of cocktails. They have a section devoted to martinis if that's your poison, but there are plenty of other drinks to suit any palate. I went with the New York Sour, which is a favorite drink of mine I almost never see on a menu. For starters we did some oysters and the Knish, while my friend ordered the chowder. I had the "bone-in" duck meatloaf as my main. The drinks and food were exceptional with fresh tasting ingredients. I loved that the menu had a New York/comfort food feel, but it was all elevated. Ambiance was great. I loved the interior and the style of the booths/tables. We also sat in the room with the fireplace, which was prefect for a cold night. Though the room filled up, it wasn't loud and we could enjoy a conversation without yelling at each other. Service too was top notch. Our server was personable and attentive, making sure we understood the menu and were enjoying everything throughout the night. We never felt rushed. Overall, I highly recommend Jack & Charlie's No. 118. We had a fun night filled with great service, cozy ambiance, and delicious food. I'll gladly be back!
Be the first to ReplyA solid place that could be better.
To start, service is superb. Professional and casual at the same time. It was our first visit and they really walked us through the menu carefully and honestly. Martinis were good, but not cold enough. Clams casino: I had last had them forty years ago. So glad they brought them back. Then chopped tuna for my partner. Excellent, with the sesame crisps the star. " Deductions" at main courses. The duck meatloaf was great , but it was plated on cold potatoes. It seemed that someone had set up the plate too soon. Carbonara was warm, not hot, and cold after five minutes. It may have been a customer "slam". When we walked in, we were only the second table. When we left an hour later, there wasn't an empty table in the house. It was good, but not at the top of our list of places we want to go back to soon

Is this the best clam chowder in the world? Or is there some restaurant in Boston that I've never been to that can compete? Maybe one day I'll find out. In the meantime this is the best chowder I've ever tasted.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I have been to Jack & Charlie's no.
118 two times now and we have been impressed both times. The last time we dined here was for NYE, the food and the service are great at Jack & Charlie's I also adore the ambiance of the restaurant. Because the New Year's Eve menu is different than the regular menu I will give you a run down of what we had: Starters:- Chestnut soup (super rich and creamy!)- Oysters Rockefeller (my husband said they were fantastic)Pasta - Cacio E Pepe (made to perfection)- Lasagna (really amazing flavor)Main:- Agnolotti (a bit too many mushrooms, but very tasty sauce) - Prime Beef (my husband stated that the beef was well cooked and was a solid cut) Dessert:- Sticky Toffee Banana Pudding (so delicious! I ate the whole thing!)- Chocolate cake (Warm and melt in your mouth good!)If you are looking for a fun restaurant with delicious food look no further than Jack & Charlie's no. 118! Thank you so much for helping us ring in 2022 with great food! We will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyOld school NYC style restaurant in the West Village.
My friend and I got a highly coveted reservation late on a Thursday and found ourselves in the new trendy place to hang out. Here are the top things:1. Drinks are at the standard cocktail bar level in flavor but definitely hit a more boozy note. Especially if you're going for the martinis.2. Not as friendly for vegetarians but there are plenty of items to accommodate different diets. 3. Friendly staff4. Vibe is new and trendy. Basically everyone making good money in their late 20s and early 30s will come through here.5. Reservation needed.6. The space is also on the smaller side. We were bumping into people and getting bumped into for a good portion of the night. If you want something newer with that old school feel, it's worth checking out.

Amazing new restaurant on Greenwich and it did not disappoint! LOVE the interior and great art too. Service was spot on and I love how they take your coat (especially in winter) and provide you a numbered ticket so you don't have to carry your jacket around/while sitting. The food is AMAZING. I definitely want to come back to try their other dishes. I also like how they do their dirty martinis with stuffed goat cheese. It was interesting and actually works! Things I ordered:- Oyster Rockefeller - Shepherd's Pie Croquettes- "Bone -In" Duck Meatloaf- Flourless Chocolate Cake
