I'm really sad I haven't been here before and I know that sounds dramatic but I could've really used a lot of this delicious food a-lot sooner! The walnut shrimp was my favorite dish, it was so creamy and tasted amazing. The tofu just had so many great flavors that exploded in your mouth. This place should be called Jiang Nan Satisfaction.

I tried Jiang Nan Spring, which was recommended to me by my boyfriend who lives nearby. Both times I visited, I was seated quickly and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. The pork dongpo was amazing, juicy and tender and I would definitely order it again. The basil with clams was a great accompaniment to the rice. The fish fillets with wine sauce were also tender and juicy. I will definitely make an effort to visit Jiang Nan Spring again because of its excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommended!Overall I would give my experience here 5/5 as the food was delicious, the wasn't too much of a wait to get in, and the staff were attentive to my needs.

Wish I would've tried this place sooner because the food is very tasty. We ordered the following:-sizzling rice soup-baby ribs -thick noodles -string beans & eggplants-chicken fried riceThere wasn't one dish that we didn't enjoy. The to go serving sizes were perfect. There were plenty of leftovers after four adults had a bit of everything.

jiang nan spring is definitely on the michelin guide for good reason! while not the most modern, upscale restaurant, it's a clean place with friendly service and incredible chinese food in hearty portions! come here with a big group for access to a table with a lazy susan and the ability to try a wide variety of dishes! if the table isn't filled, you're not doing it right!food review:s-tier:seaweed flavored fried fish: it's basically fish filet coated with this heavenly seaweed-infused batter that's light, airy, and packed with flavor! this is supposedly their signature dish, so definitely give it a try!beef and maw szechuan special sauce: even if you don't like beef innards, i still highly recommend this dish. it's a cold dish that has beef tongue, tripe, tendon, and other offals tossed in a spicy, savory sauce that is certain to whet your appetite for your main courses.dongpo pork: sweet, salty, and rich. while some places' dongpo pork is over cooked and tough or too salty, jiang nan gets it just right, making it a perfect staple.eggplant and ground pork in hot garlic sauce: i'm generally a sucker for this dish, but i'd say i'm also pretty qualified to rate it, since i basically order this whenever i see it on the menu. i thought jiang nan did a great job with it, as the eggplant was thoroughly cooked (no undercooked/raw eggplant yuck) and packed with that spicy, savory, garlicky, and tangy sauce that makes me love this dish so much. a-tier:green onion pancake: very flaky and had nice layers. overall very solid green onion pancake.honey walnut prawns: loved the sweetness of the sauce and the plump prawns, though i wish the walnuts were in slightly bigger pieces.sautรฉed string beans with ground pork: very well salted and had that nice wok flavor! b-tier:spicy boiled fish filet: despite its name, i felt like it wasn't spicy enough and the flavors fell a little flat for me.green onion beef: solid dish, but nothing too special.jiang nan spring is an excellent place for some quality chinese food that you can enjoy with a large group! definitely would recommend!
Be the first to ReplyWe came in and there wasn't a very long wait.
We came in at the right time because it was packed. The food was absolutely delicious. It's not a fast food bring everything out at once. They take their time with the dishes and you can tell. You will not be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyI love this restaurant.
They have a large variety of dishes and they are all very, very good. It is usually packed and it is understandable because the food is so good. The staff is friendly and helpful. However, if you are looking for a quiet and romantic place, this is not the right restaurant for you. It is a bright lights and loud atmosphere kind a place.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food all around.
Our staple dishes are: Seaweed fried fish, madam Sung's fish soup, stir-fry veggies, rice cake (both the soy based and the non-soy based sauce are good), sautรฉed shrimp, and eggplants. It's a busy place but the service has always been good. It can get a bit noisy when the restaurants is full.

While not a Michelin star restaurant, this Michelin guide restaurant still hits the spot when you want a hearty, affordable meal. Park on the street and make your way to this quaint restaurant. What do you order at this family style restaurant? Well, try the dong po pork, the eggplant, and the seaweed fried fish. These are savory, savory, and savory, and by that, I mean they are just loaded with flavor that'll keep you wanting more. The dong po pork was hearty and juicy and cooked just right, the eggplant... well I love eggplant so no explanation needed, and the fried fish was crunchy but fresh. The xiao long bao and mapo tofu were good/safe options but I definitely feel like we could have been a bit more adventurous in our last 2 dishes but sometimes simple is better. So there you go, it's no bistro na's but jiang nan spring still has lots of heart and flavor so you can't go wrong eating here either!

I ordered the vegetables and fish because I'm trying to be healthy, not because I actually wanted it. But I was surprised to see how good it tasted. The broccoli was perfectly cooked. They used an oil that was very light and flavorful. This was such a simple dish, but it was great. Service was nice. I highly recommend this restaurant
Be the first to ReplyJust ok.
If you are looking for authentic food, I'm not sure if this is the right place. I've had better version of each dish. Service was ok. Food was ok.
Be the first to ReplyWe came early around 11:30 am and no wait on weekend.
ย We are large group and lucky there is only 2 tables ย left for large group. My fav are dry spicy pork ย intestine pot, crab, fried fish and Shanghai baby ribs. Bitter melon with egg yolk is good too, a little more bitter than the flavor we eat. I like the way they cook. Light and not too overwhelming for sou sauce flavor. Will come again for sure to try other dishes. Price is also very reasonable too. Has small car park on the side and back. Cost about 240 for 9 people.

Don't know what's the standard of Michelin? For the environment this restaurant is too noisy, for the food, it's just so so.. there was even a wire in the vegetable. Service is not bad but Sorry, not going back again
Be the first to ReplyI found this restaurant to try for dinner.
It was newly opened and had a good rating. I was kinda of skeptical of the food since it said Michelin but not a Michelin star. It wasn't too bad in terms of crowds when we went there before dinner. Once it was dinner time, the line was out the door.We ordered a lamb, tilapia with seaweed batter, and some green beans. The lamb was so tender and tasty. My little one wanted to eat more of the lamb. The tilapia was good but it felt like there was enough fish. It was light and fluffy though. Green beans were ok. Not too soggy or hard. Overall, will come back to try out more food.

Jiang Nan Spring had a large selection of Shanghainese, Taiwanese, and Szechuan. The ambiance was slightly loud in the evening due to the high ceiling, but I didn't mind it. Overall, the place was very spacious and clean with a lot of seatings. The servers were very attentive and refilled our tea pot multiple times. The XLB was flavorful. I highly recommended it.

ย Both restaurants have similar menus, but I enjoy the irresistible platter of tilapia fried in a tempura like batter flavored with seaweed at the Jiang Nan Spring. ย I also ordered the mix vegetables, which consist of asparagus, black fungus, mushroom, bamboo shoot, broccoli, carrot, and bok choy. ย The vegetables are cooked to the right softness and each vegetable has its own distinct flavor. ย I especially love the tall ceiling of the restaurant as it gives a less pressure dine-in experience. ย There are some dishes that the restaurant is famous for and were mentioned by local newspapers which we didn't get to try are: Shanghai short rib, yan du xian (double pork soup with bamboo shoots), and walnut shrimp.Price is on the expensive side, averaging $20 after tax.

The food was OK not disappointed except the ้ป้ณ้ฑผ dish, it was dry and tasteless. The duck dish ๆจ่ถ้ดจ portion was much smaller than before, I am sure was not inflation because the price has gone up double. 5 of us spend $200 on 8 dishes for lunch. One more thing, the service was not good as be

A friend of ours recommended Jiang Nan Spring for a Shanghainese lunch a couple weeks ago. Located on Main Street in downtown Alhambra it a large restaurant. Parking on the side and in the rear is available. The menu is extensive with some non Shanghainese dishes. Business was busy for a Saturday lunch . Good thing they gave us a large table for our party of 5 because we could barely fit the ordered dishes.Smoked ham gelatin 3 stars tasted good, the ham was roughly cut and the sliced pieces were huge. Sliced gluten 4.5 stars nicely marinated with mushrooms and black ear fungus. Pork with chives 3 stars not worth ordering lots of chives very little else. Seaweed fried fish 5 stars very traditional Shanghainese dish most tables ordered this item. Best when it's piping hot right from the kitchen. Spare rib in lotus leaf 3 stars definitely not like the Chinese description or name. It's billed as steamed ribs with rice coating but after you open up the lotus leaf wrapper it is like a Zhong Tzi. Shanghai style salted pork with veg rice 4 stars nice pork fat covered rice with veggies. Sautรฉed Shanghai shrimp 4 stars large shrimp good portions. Flaming intestine with duck blood 5 stars not a Shanghainese dish but it was excellent and the duck blood is a added option with an up charge. Dessert sweet red bean pancakes 5 stars a sweet red bean paste spread inside a flat dough that is pan fried. Service was excellent. Kind of reminds me of dining in China no pace, timing or separation between dishes. Everything just comes out all at once so your table needs to fit your entire order. Authentic Shanghainese flavors.

Good service and fair price. They have dishes that requires reserve a day earlier so recommend look into the menu early before you come.Pork w/salty vegetables noodle soup: tastes just right, not too salty and strong taste of the vegetables out of it. Maybe the noodle can be a little more tender or softer, it kinda stacked in between but over all it's pretty good.Smoked tea duck: definitely recommend it. Put the duck in the bun with green onion and the sweet soybean paste, ย we were just hoping they could give us more buns.Spare ribs in lotus leave: the taste didn't fit what we ordered so we thought it was just ok. But after we got home and reheated, it was good. Quality is not stable though, came in four and only one tastes just right, the other three has too much pepper in it.Carb and rice cake in brown sauce: sauce was good but rice cake was too soft and the crab shell was not cracked enough to let the flavor to go in.They definitely have some good stuff, but menu lay out is just a pain to read it. We definitely will come back especially for the stuff that needs to reserve early since we missed this time.
Be the first to ReplyFor a Michelin star restaurant, this was a bit
For a Michelin star restaurant, this was a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong, staff was extremely friendly and courteous but the food was shockingly mediocre. Madam Sung's Fish Soup (3/5) - I don't think there was much fish in this soup (haha). It was a strange mix of different meats (I think there was ham!). Flavor-wise it was okay but I was hoping for something with thicker consistency like a fish maw soup.Shanghai Style Rice Cake (2/5) - Man oh man, this dish was SALTY! I couldn't take more than two bites before grabbing a sip of my tea. The rice cakes were overcooked, so it was a weird consistency (overly soft rather than a subtle al dente). Also, the rice cake to vegetable/meat ratio favored more rice cakes which left a lot for the heart to desire.Seaweed Flavored Fried Fish (3.5/5) - I've had this many times at other restaurants and this was definitely average at best. The batter felt more like a fish and chips batter (you could barely see or taste any seaweed). The fish was cooked perfectly fine and you get pretty nice chunks of fish, but I just wasn't wowed. Other dishes definitely execute this dish WAY better.Spicy Boiled Intestine (3.5/5) - Probably the best dish flavor-wise (and not overly salty) but the portion was TINY! Yes, I understand this restaurant is on the more fancy size, but for $19.95, I would expect something larger than an individual soup bowl. The pork blood and intestines were nothing remarkable.

Jiang Nan Spring reflects the cuisine of Shanghai and the region of China south of the Yangtze River. My mom's family is from Shanghai, and the dishes here demonstrate a high level of technique while remaining very comforting. They have been recognized by Michelin as a Bib Gourmand and their extensive menu can be a bit overwhelming. If you need help ordering, I would recommend the following.Seaweed Fried Fish: The plump fish pieces are large and fried perfectly with a crisp light batter and threads of green seaweed. This could use just a bit more seaweed flavor.Smoked Tea Duck: The skin is super crispy and the juicy meat has a nice smoked tea flavor and just enough brininess. It is served with buns, scallions, and hoisin sauce, like you would have with Peking Duck, but not typically with this dish.Dong Po Pork: A giant rectangle of pork is "red-braised" in soy sauce, rice wine, ginger, sugar, and star anise. The meat is soft and tender and cut into little squares at the table. The skin is gelatinous and melts in your mouth. This is a really rich dish, so a little goes a long way. Their popular dish, Spare Ribs in Lotus Leaf, was unavailable for some reason. If you visit, get the dishes I had this time, plus the Spare Ribs in Lotus Leaf, Smoked and Fresh Pork Warm Pot, XLB, Lion's Head, and one of the Shanghai rice cake dishes. Wait, that's a lot of food. You may have to visit a couple times or bring more people. Parking: In the heart of Alhambra, there is parking in the back with lots of street parking in the front. Dining Area: The dining room is large, spacious, and elegant. Service is quick after you wave them down.

I came in with my mom about an hour before closing on a Thursday and there were plenty of seats! The food came out really quickly and was piping hot. My favorite was the orange chicken, so crispy despite all the sauce, but it wasn't really spicy at all. We also ordered the west lake beef soup and the shanghai style rice cakes. The rice cakes were a little too soft and slightly too salty for my taste, but still delicious nonetheless. Everything was just as good the next day as leftovers! The place is a little pricier than your standard chinese restaurant - probably because of the michelin recognition. The dining room was also quite loud despite there only being 4 other parties besides us. Other than these small critiques, everything was amazing!
