Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab Washington Reviews from The Last Year
This place is truly an institution in D.
C. Especially during this campaign year, I would not be surprised if you ran into political leaders over the next few months for events. Nestled just around the corner from the White House, Jo's gives old time feels with its dark wood finishings and wait staff dressed in full tuxedos. Even at 5:30 pm, this place is busy, so definitely make a reservation if you're looking to be seated. Everyone who works here is very polite and attentive to the needs of their patrons. The menu selection is pretty vast from $18 sandwiches or burgers to $80 seafood and steak. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy. The complimentary bread basket alone is enough to know you will love your meal. My favorites out of course the petite filet and key lime pie. This restaurant is also a part of the Lettuce Entertain You Family, which means if you have their app you can collect dining points that turn into rewards money to use at any of their restaurants. I'm always a fan of a rewards program, because it gives me an excuse to return!
Place doesn't miss.
Always packed, and for a reason. Great food, and nice bar service from Lady. If you want quintessential dc, here's a spot besides old ebbitt. If you're just visiting, go here but be ready to pay some $$.
Amazing place to eat.
It's beautiful inside and our food was delicious. The service was impeccable. Our group ordered 4 appetizers, salads, steak/fish, and 5 desserts. Every bite was delightful.
Great Restaurant
This may be my favorite restaurant in Washington. The food is excellent, the drinks are too, and the vibe is very much that of an upscale steak house. Service is friendly and attentive too. One tip: If you visit between October and May, make sure to order stone crabs as an appetizer.
Good ol' faithful Joes to kick off my husbands birthday
Good ol' faithful Joes to kick off my husbands birthday week :))))) Service is always excellent and the food is always fresh and delicious! Consistency is key!! Made my reservations and as always requested our favorite booth and as always the staff here made it happen. Even gave us complementary champagne to toast the occasion which was pretty tasty! Dimly lit bar are and it wasn't too busy, made for a perfect Sunday evening date night. We were so hungry and in the moment we forgot to snap some pics!! But definitely all of what we ordered was just absolutely AMAZING! To start we shared a Caesar Salad which was prepared perfectly! Crisp & fresh and the croutons were delicious. For dinner my husband enjoyed a fillet- medium rare with Brussels and Mac & Cheese...for me I just went with the fried shrimp which was served with fries and I also ordered the baked sweet potato! That sweet potato was absolutely delicious!!!! And the praline butter that it was served with OMG! Just took my sweet potato to an entire different level. So simple and just so delicious!!! With dinner I enjoyed my Clevelander and my husband enjoyed his old fashions made with Angels Envy. Definitely 15 out of 10 over all dining experience. After dinner I also enjoyed some tea! And I fell in love with their tea experience. My tea was very flavorful, aromatic and didn't need much sugar to sweeten. Next time my husband plans an outing here, I'm just going to go with it! No other Yelp suggestions coming come me You can never go wrong with Joe's! Until next time! Happy Yelping!
Food and service was on point .
Would highly recommend. Went for a company event and it was perfect
This was my second time at Joe's and I had a lovely time.
I usually sit at the bar, and am able to partake in their delicious happy hour. The staff are extremely polite and knowledgeable.
Holy cow, this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in
Holy cow, this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in DC. I wish I could eat here daily but I live in the Midwest. The seafood and shellfish was fresh as could be and absolutely top-notch! The service more impressive than having your own chef and wait staff. Five stars! I can't wait to go back !
Always amazing seafood -- do NOT miss the Madagascar
Always amazing seafood -- do NOT miss the Madagascar shrimp! Service is top notch. Vibe is very DC -- a power restaurant with Hill types and celebs -- energetic bustling dining room with real pros keeping it all running. Magical corn muffins in the bread basket. If you get Jeffrey as your server you are a very lucky table -- he is professional, fun and a veteran who knows the right way to do everything! One little complaint -- oysters were excellent in flavor -- but very surprised that they were not very well shucked. Every oyster was still attached to the shell -- so we had to work them loose with the little forks. That is very unexpected in any seafood restaurant, much less one of Joe's caliber. Otherwise, everything was perfect!
Always good food and great place for a business diner
Been here already several times for business meals. Food is excellent, staff very friendly. Always busy so make reservations! Can be quite noisy at times when full.
Amazing work dinner and they bent over backward for us
We had a large table but with three small childrend. The staff were honest that they would not put 10 adults at a main dining room table as it wouldn't work, but they were very kind to us with including 9 chairs and a highchair with all of us getting close but having enough room to eat. The staff were kind to the kids, and had kid's menus with crayons, which went over very well. Everything we ate was excellent, with some things being even bigger standouts. We had oysters, tuna tartare, stuffed mushrooms, fried calamari, and a shrimp coctail. I would say the shrimp cocktail was very good but came in behind the others with the stuffed mushrooms, tuna, and oysters definitely being on the top. We had a mix of steak eaters and seafood eaters, and everyone was happy here. The bone in filet was gorgeous and tasty, but my actual meal was the grilled seafood platter of shrimp, lobster, and scallops. Everyone enjoyed their entrees with a mix of surf and turf all over the place. Wine selection was excellent and reasonable. We had a great Brunello from Altesino as well as a Heitz cab and both were excellent. Dessert was excellent, although I was stuffed and took most of it home. I had the havana pie, which was a tres leches pie. I am looking forward to the rest of it later today.
Our server, Leslie would not crack a smile if you paid her.
Very unfriendly and not welcoming. This is the third Joe's location we've been to, and by far the food was the worst. We were so looking forward to a great experience, and it was subpar. The fillet was overcooked, the hashbrowns tasted like they were made the day before. The desserts were delicious. Very sad experience.
This is my favorite place for a few things.
... In my humble opinion this place beats old ebbitt in every category. Oysters are the best and freshest I've had in DC, that goes for oyster Rockefeller as well. Love them and crave them. Service is always top notch. Really aren't gonna find more consistent and attentive across the board. The food is always great. On this outing for the first time had the flounder which was a special and the fried chicken. Now I have always said the best fried chicken in dc happens to be bantam king, but after having it at Joe's .... I am torn. It was juicy and flavorful and crunchy. So now I'm leaning towards it just depends what kind of fried chicken you want. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Maddie's the bartender extraordinaire in the back room, she is always fast and so friendly. Probably my fav bartender in DC. The only downside to Joe's for me is you probably do want a reservation as it is always jammers and you are risking not getting a table or long wait time otherwise.
Joes never disappoints me!!! We stopped in for lunch the
Joes never disappoints me!!! We stopped in for lunch the other day and we were greeted with amazing service and even better food! The ambiance is nice and classy but you do not have to be overdressed here. The bar is perfect for lunch but we sat at a booth to make it a little more intimate. We tried a little bit of everything this time and everything was so mouthwatering. The steak was cooked to perfection. The baked potato had the best thick slices of bacon and cheese loaded on top. The crab cakes had so much crab and omg the shrimp was the perfect combination of juicy and crispy! Can you tell I enjoyed every bite yet? The cake was the best ending to my meal. Joes is just perfect to me and I'll continue to try different menu items every time I go. It is pricey but you're paying for good food and even better service! The bathrooms are clean and the parking is decent. You can park on the street or one of the garages in the area. Sometimes it does get packed here (holidays) so make a reservation.
Great food - Great Service!!
Excellent food - excellent service. We were treated like celebrities from all staff. The food was absolutely delicious. We had seafood platter and king crab linguini. Yummy!! Both of them!!! We will eat here again next time in D.C. Highly recommend!!
The food and drinks here were great.
The old fashioned cocktail was good and I liked the stone crab claws. The ribeye was also delicious and flavorful. The service was good and I had a nice experience overall. The restaurant also had a nice ambiance.
Great Seafood
This place is great. Our materâDâ was the best. All seafood was the best ever. The steaks a little chewy for filet but had a great flavor. Definitely worth every nickle
Don't miss the stone crab claws!
What can one say about Stone Crab Claws! They have the absolute BEST. Don't miss this spot if you are going to DC for anything. Yes, it is expensive but worth every dollar.
Delicious!
I thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit here for dinner! Great food and excellent service. I definitely plan to return next time Iâm in town. Only downside - the price.
Very good stone crabs and service
I had the clam chowder which was below average and had one clam in it. I also had the select stone crabs and they were very good. Service was excellent.
Great Restaurant in DC
My husband and I had visited Joeâs Crab Shack in Miami. But when we visited Joeâs Seafood and Prime in DC we found this one so much better. Service is amazing and the food is delicious. We were fortunate enough to have Patrick for our waiter. He is the best
Good nibbles
This was a great meet up spot for happy hour. It gets packed very quickly and felt especially energetic as folks were emerging from 3 years of pandemic shut in. Sits in the center of downtown. There are decent drink specials and food and snacks.
High End
We had a family celebration and we wanted someplace nice. Joeâs was recommended and it was a good choice. Understand, the prices are VERY expensive and with that you should get outstanding food. We ordered many different items off the menu and overall was very good, not great. The service WAS outstanding. Our waiter had great personality and was very accommodating. The restaurant is upscale but unfortunately you had all different kinds of dress everything from shorts and t shirts to sports jacket and collared shirts. They really should make a minimum dress code . The space is split into two areas. One has a very nice large bar and a casual high top seating area and the other side is the actual dining room. Tables in dining room are VERY close together and when anyone walks by your chair gets banged.

It depends how far out in the future your reservation is. If you posted a reservation hat was 2 months out, itâs unlikely many people will view your reservation. It could also be that your reservation is just not desirable.
