Kappo Miyabi Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Came here for dinner with family as first timers.
It's a nice restaurant located on a corner. Our waitress was nice and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered different types of sushi, wagyu gyoza, and a chicken teriyaki bento box. The food tasted okay, I couldn't taste the wagyu in the gyoza. I don't think the quality matched the price of the food. Nice restaurant with nice employees, but I did not enjoy the food.

The Uni and Sashami are very fresh! It's my 10th time coming here! Recommends: Sukiyaki pot (the wagyu one is amazing) Uni blue crab box Hamburger steak Sea bass Uni scallop starter
I brought my gf and my mom to eat here.
Upon entering the building you're greeted by a friendly staff. We were seated quickly without a reservation (granted it was early on a Friday evening). The decor of the building makes you feel that you've stepped out of Santa Monica in to a different place. The food is was great, Kevin recommended this yellow tail roll that was very tasty and did not let us down. The staff was friendly and were very attentive to our needs, constantly filling up our water cups and checking in on us. On top of the delicious food and great ambiance, the restroom was very clean. This was not my first time coming here and definitely will not be my last. Thank you to the staff for a great wonderful time.

We ordered the set sushi lunch and it came with a wide variety of dishes. The tempura vegetables were great as well as the sushi.

At the time it was delicious but hampered by very small portions and $$$. Act1: We started with crispy agadashi mochi (yum) and sweet eggplant (extra yum). The A5 wagyu skewer was off the chart juicy and amazing as one would expect. We ordered two of them because each was just a single skewer with 3 pieces - super delicious luxury to the max @ $6 per bite - totally worth it. Act2: The sukiyaki with udon was meh, the yellowtail and tuna belly sashimi was fresh and mouth melty but again only a single piece of sushi - WTF. I have never in my life seen a single piece of sushi ! The crispy spicy tuna was probably the best I've ever had (and there were 4 pieces). They were very kind and comped us a matcha butter cake with ice cream. The waiter was super. For the same price as Katsuya I will take Katsuya due to portion size - but quality was similar! When I asked my wife if she would go back.... Unfortunately Update Food poisoning that night. Shrimp and sushi chunks all over the floor at 1am. Downgraded from 4 to 2 stars sadly

The fish was fresh and tasty, so you can tell it was prepared well. The miso soup was on the house and had a nice balance of comfort and flavour with a hint of smokiness. The hamachi that we ordered was great as well, with a good amount of shoyu. I had the negitoro uni box and the negitoro was chopped up rather than blended, very different from other sushi places I've been in. Not only was the food good, I brought my pet dog and they were very accommodating to him! My family and I are full and satisfied. We'd like to come again when we're in the area!

The rich, savory broth was balanced with sweetness, and the beef was tender and flavorful. Fresh vegetables, tofu, and noodles added great texture.
This is a hidden gem in Santa Monica.
Food is great, fish is very fresh, service is friendly in an adorable dining room. I ordered the lunch Sashimi Gozen, it was only $35!it had several dishes, the sashimi is great quality! Highly recommended!
Always meant to visit this place, and I finally did today.
My partner and I got the lunch sushi omakasr special. The fish was very fresh and came with just the right amount of rice; the rice itself was a little underseasoned in my opinion, but the fish made up for it. I wouldn't order the blue crab again though, but maybe that's just personal preference. The garlic soy edamame was exactly what it says on the tin. The takoyaki unfortunately barely had any octopus in it and was probably not made in house-- if you're looking for authentic takoyaki, don't go for this one. I was really looking forward to trying their skewers, and they didn't disappoint. The chicken and pork were grilled to perfection and were so tender. I only wish they'd been seasoned a little more! The dessert I had, however, is a matcha-lover's delight. The matcha buttercake with housemade whipped cream is delicious. My favorite part is the little fried dough twill that came with it. It was so good. Service was great. We came in on Friday right when lunch started, so there weren't really a lot of people. Our server was very attentive, friendly and informative. Our table was also bussed in a timely manner by someone who I think was either the manager or the owner, who was very friendly as well. All in all, the food was okay. I don't really think it's worth the premium price, since I've experienced the same value for less money elsewhere, but the atmosphere and service make up for the rest of the experience if that's something that matters to you. If I'm ever around Santa Monica again, I have no issue with dropping by again for some yakitori!
Great service, many great options.
New matcha butter cake is great! Sapporo mug was frosty!
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR FIRST
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR FIRST RESERVATION! Definitely not the best quality seafood we ever had, but the worst customer service we have ever encountered Where should I even start? Made a reservation for me and my girlfriends to celebrate our birthdays here. Upon arrival, we were encouraged to use a tablet for placing our orders, though several items from the hard copy menu were missing on the tablet. Trusting the server's suggestion, we ordered from the tablet. While the food quality was alright, the portion sizes were much smaller than expected. For sashimi lovers, I'd recommend Tokyo Central or Mitsuwa for better quality and lower prices. Since I just got back from a trip to Japan, this was far below my expectations. The real issue arose when we received our bill. Our server, Jose, handed us the receipt, and we immediately noticed a significant discrepancy between the total shown on the tablet and the subtotal on our printed receipt. Although we understood the 20% gratuity for a party of five, the mismatch in sashimi prices between the tablet and hard copy menu was alarming. When we inquired about this, Jose acknowledged that he was aware of the discrepancies but claimed it was impossible to make changes since a third party set up the ordering system. Notably, we were particularly taken aback by the price of Sweet Shrimp (Ama Ebi), which was very small yet costed us $8 a piece on the hard copy menu, unlike the price listed on the tablet. We were not the only customers who noticed this pricing issue, but we were the first to escalate it. Unfortunately, Jose's response was to throw shade at us for doing so. We escalated the issue to the manager, who was off but spoke to us over the phone. She insisted that the prices were the same, which clearly they were not. Her responses were dismissive and unhelpful, even though we did receive some compensation, the overall attitude was very unpleasant. Overall, this experience left a sour taste in our mouths--not just from the overpriced, mediocre sashimi, but from the poor handling of our concerns and the apparent lack of transparency in their pricing. The remarks from the server that we were the only customers who had ever complained further added to our frustration. It's disheartening to see a business not taking legitimate customer concerns seriously. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the customer service and honesty should match the cost. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. Diners should be wary of trusting a restaurant's high ratings of 4-5 stars on Yelp without scrutiny. I would advise potential diners to be cautious and double-check all pricing before ordering, or better yet, choose another place where the food quality and customer service can truly justify the expense.
Avoid at all costs! They haven't updated their ordering
Avoid at all costs! They haven't updated their ordering tablet, so the subtotal price didn't match their menu price. Initially, they refused to address the price difference. After a 1-hour back-and-forth battle, they finally agreed to correct the price discrepancy caused by their own ordering device's display error. Additionally, the food was very mediocre yet super pricey. Totally not worth it.
I love this place.
Because it's clean, friendly, and the food is delicious. Today I went with my friends for the first time in a while and it was really nice

Hands down the best sushi spot in all of LA.
I've tried many places before but Kappo Miyabi just hits the spot every time :') Highly recommend the Nabe, sushi nigiri, miso glazed eggplant and agedashi tofu. It is a must!! Everything was just perfect, including customer service and was absolutely delicious.

We came for our daughter's 11th birthday dinner.
Just like their lunch combo, the dinner Gozen didn't disappoint us. Well worth the money.

We ordered ramen - the rest of our order was ok - but upon commenting on the milky appearance of the broth, we were told the ramen broth was made from Half and Half. We asked what the broth was made of before ordering and was told it was pork based. Our table had a dairy allergy - but given this is not a traditional ingredient for ramen, I found this a bit strange. But even so, the broth was not flavorful and the noodles were over cooked. Overall, it ruined our dining experience. And we were not offered by the waitress to take that charge off our bill - I don't mind paying for something I ordered but that seemed unreasonable to me.

Winning spot! This is a great place for a catchup with friends, a group celebration, a business lunch, or any occasion where you want to eat deliciously! At each indoor table, they have digital ordering so you can either order there or order with the waiter. We chose the latter but the screens were helpful to see photos of all the food options. As we pursued the menu, they brought us complimentary miso soup for the table. The food is EXCELLENT and SUPER FRESH! Seriously, this is one of those places where when you have the sushi, you can tell it's good quality fish (which is a rare find in Santa Monica!). I ordered the Lunch Sushi Omakase menu for $25 which I was happy to find out that they have on weekends as well. It was plenty of food as it came with a salad, a hand roll, tofu, ramen soup, and vegetable tempura. We ordered a Baby Octopus Karagge appetizer and ended up taking home the appetizer leftovers (so much good food!) and was happy to continue the treat later that evening. They have a small patio, tables and booths for couples to groups, and a private group room. Great service where they check in on you (but not too much!).
