Best Beef Brisket Noodles in Hong Kong
Tourist trap, overpriced, small servings, all true but does not matter - this in my opinion is the best tasting beef brisket noodles/curry in Hong Kong just by the quality of the beef.
Beef melts in your mouth and best paired with the e-fu noodles OR you can go for the curry/dry options which you can include beef tendons with.
Pre-COVID, the queues would start to snake from 12PM until the evenings. Presently, the lines can be long during the prime lunch/dinner hours but very manageable compared to pre-COVID times.
Overpriced tourist trap!
I paid HK$80 for a bowl of beef brisket noodles and an iced lemon tea. It may not sound like much but the size of the bowl was half the size of regular bowls served in other dai pai dongs, the beef brisket was mostly fat, which had more of tripe than beef itself and the noodles were overcooked (soggy) - nothing like the pictures portraying it in these reviews.
At this price there are other beef brisket noodles, within the area, that provide better value for your dollar.
Beef Brisket Noodles!!!
Kau Kee is an institution. Sometimes the lines can be down the street so time it accordingly.
Beef brisket noodles are great. Portions are small which will give you the opportunity to try both flavours. (Regular and curry).
Seating is mainly community style. I am not a fan of it.
Great Beef Brisket
Kau Kee is a really famous joint for beef brisket so expect long queues.
Usually beef brisket is paired with flat rice noodles, thin yellow noodles and other options but here it is popularly paired with E-fu noodles and it tastes so good that they serve plain E-fu noodles in soup too.
The beef brisket curry was really nice because it had lots of caraway seeds which is how a good tasting beef brisket curry should have.
Sadly the last time I had this delicious tasting beef brisket was in the UK which is a bit of a shame for something that I should be able to get readily in Hong Kong.
Also had the plain e-fu noodles which are the best you can get in Hong Kong.
It is really difficult to get good tasting E-fu noodles because not many people order it other restaurants so the uncooked noodles (in dry form) have probably been sitting there for quite a while therefore going rancid because of the environment.
But here, they are served nearly every minute which means they won't be sitting in the storeroom for long from the time to get rancid.
Anyway, the E-fu noodles were lovely and al-dente when they arrived and the broth was sweet, loaded with lots of spring onions giving it a fresh taste.
THE WORST RESTAURANT
First, I have to say the dishes which I ordered was so yummy and rich. Especially, the soup is so amazing and hard to express that great taste. However, you may wonder why I gave the low rate because its service and its behavior. It seemed that the cashier is own this restaurant. Also, she was so rude and act as if she didn't need to care about customers' feeling maybe because it's known for its dishes on internet. I won't visit this shop next time. "超級爛"
首先我必須說我點的餐點真得很好吃,特別是湯太讓人驚訝了真得很難去形容那個味道。 然後,可以能會好奇為甚麼我給了這麼低的評價,因為它的服務和態度。 收錢的大媽好像是個老闆。 此外,她非常的無理和表現出一付他不需要在意客人的感受或許這家店在網路上很有名的關係,我絕對不會再去這家店了。 "The worst experience I haven't ever had"
Tourist trap
90% of customers seem to be tourists. There used to be a lot more locals visiting. Food quality has been more or less consistent however. Price has gone up a lot over the years. Male employees are generally friendlier and more pleasant than the female ones - not gender discrimination but a matter of fact. Service has gone from bad to worse, especially the woman manning the cashier - she is a tourist destination in herself. If you want bragging rights back home on bad HK service, this is the place to visit.
