Am intimate, friendly restaurant with excellent food and service. The couscous was incredible as was the chicken tagine. Highly recommend a stop - and don't forget the mint tea with your honeycake for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent flavors: simple, friendly, and packing a punch.
Ordered: chaliflor appetizer and duck tagline, with a great Japanese "snow weizen" beer: twice. Packed everything leftover to go for another round, maybe with toast. Solid service: friendly and prompt. It was a bit cold, but hey, it's winter
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food and friendly service in a lovely atmosphere.
We've tried a number of different dishes on subsequent visits and love it every time.
Be the first to ReplyMy dining experience at Khamsa, a charming Moroccan
My dining experience at Khamsa, a charming Moroccan restaurant, was a unique blend of vibrant flavors and cozy ambiance. The restaurant staff welcomed us with warm hospitality and were consistently friendly and helpful, but there were sporadic occurrences of the service dipping slightly. However, the intimate atmosphere inside the restaurant was a delightful surprise - the space adorned with traditional Moroccan tiling and tranquil artwork, and even with limited indoor seating, the restaurant never felt packed. The standout of the evening was indisputably the food, particularly the Bastilla, a flaky pastry filled with beautifully seasoned shredded chicken, dusted with cinnamon, and saffron. This appetizer was packed with a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. Likewise, the Lamb Shank Mrouzia was another highlight. The lamb, garnished with dried fruits, was tender and merely slipped off the bone. It might have been more enjoyable if the quantity were slightly more ample. Despite the charm of the Bastilla and the Lamb Shank Mrouzia, it was disappointing to encounter dullness in some dishes. Both the chicken tagine and the Berber couscous, for instance, were a bit mixed with the meats being dry and tough, and lacking depth and spice. However, the saffron rice was fluffy and aromatic, generating a stand-alone dish that complemented the Tagine and Mrouzia well. The Tagine is also a bit wetter (and doesnt have rice) which was less expected. Although Khamsa had run out of their Moroccan lemonade and some beer options on the day of my visit, the suggested red wine pairing with the lamb was spot-on. The Za'alouk, a smoky, roasted eggplant dish, won over my palette too. To sum up, Khamsa offers a delightful foray into Moroccan cuisine with fantastic favorites like Bastilla and Lamb Shank Mrouzia, but could work on some inconsistency in their dishes and service

Their food was very tasty, their service was friendly and kind, and the place had a nice atmosphere. While it was a little tight there was an indoor and an outdoor option. The entrees we had were full of flavor and character. With its diverse menu, exceptional presentation, and warm hospitality, it is a place where flavors, traditions, and memories intertwine, leaving diners with a lasting impression and a desire to return for more.

No Outdoor Seating!!! The Story - I was excited to see a delightful restaurant with outdoor patio and heaters, portrayed in the Yelp photos, in close range to the Victoria Theater. The food looked interesting and was eager to try the duck tagine. Alas, when we arrived for our Saturday 6 pm reservation, which had specified an outdoor table for 4, the manager, who had not reviewed the reservation, said she was unable to serve us outdoors when we arrived. There was one table of 2 indoors and no one else. She said only one small heater worked and that she had asked the staff to dismantle the 6 primary heat towers which had the propane tanks piled next to them...so we went to a delightful restaurant with a heated patio nearby. Considering their Yelp page specifies they have outdoor seating, my reservation specified it and the outdoor photos show the 6 heat towers working, I was irked.

Nice Moroccan restaurant with really delicious bastilla in a good neighborhood and nice waitress
Be the first to ReplyCool spot with decent food and great wines.
Didn't love all the dishes but none were bad and some were exceptional Specifically, the carrots and baklava stood out. I'd go back for sure.

Great service that greats you at the door and ask you to come again. Atmosphere is very lively, with the very nice smell. Food is terrific, one of the best places to go in SF. Just come and see for yourself, you will love it
Be the first to ReplyI had a reservation at for two at 6:00pm on a Thursday.
When we arrived we asked to be seated at a booth, but instead we were seated in the middle of the restaurant. The place was empty, it was us and one other party of two dinners. The ambience was nice but the food was flavorless. We started with the carrots... they were barely cooked, bland and over priced for what it was a bowl of carrots. The entrรฉes were ok at best we had the beef and the duck with a side of rice. The duck was better than the beef but that's not saying much. I was looking for the bar but it was on the floor (metaphorically that is). The bill came out to around 120$. Don't waste ur money here are much better Moroccan places in this city.

Made a reservation via Yelp for dinner on a Wednesday night, though probably unnecessary as it was pretty empty. However, the interior is cozy with a large mural on one wall, and they have beautiful dinnerware with intricate designs. . Bastilla: (4/5) A sweet and savory appetizer, the pastry was flakey and the combination of powdered sugar, cinnamon, and chicken was new and delicious. . Saffron Rice: (5/5) Was served as a side of the tagine. It was delicious, aromatic, and fluffy; Could've been eaten on its own. . Lamb Couscous: (1/5) Chicken Tagine: (1/5) My issues with both of these dishes is the same: the meats were dry, and they lacked any depth or spice really. I got tired of chewing half way through the meal and these dishes were very monotonous. Brought them home as leftovers and added some hot sauce to remedy the situation. Our host disappeared on us throughout the night, and at one point I think we may have been the only ones inside the restaurant. Wish he would've left the water canister at the table because I needed it to wash down the food.

Expected more. Wall of shame : (
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for Moroccan food.
The decor was nice with good music but the place was a little cramped. This was our first time in a Moroccan restaurant so as suggested by our server we got one couscous dish and the fish tagine, both of them were very good. We also got the mint tea which was presented in a metallic kettle and served in glass (clear) cups which was pretty cool. We enjoyed the drink as well.
Be the first to ReplyA decent place to go.
Moroccan food is quite close to Indian food we are vegetarian and most of the time we look for good vegetarian food. For was decent here. Small place, service was decent. A good to go place for city people if you wanna try something more flavorful. Would recommend this place atleast one time.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on Valentine's Day for dinner.
We made a reservation (outdoor seating only) and had the 4-course Valentine's Day special menu (we got the appetizer with duck, another appetizer with cauliflower, two different salads, lamb shank, chicken with potatoes, and two different desserts). Serving size was pretty big, and all the dishes were pretty tasty (especially the lamb shank). The service we received was great, and we didn't wait for too long got the food. One minor problem is that two of the heaters outside were broken so we couldn't get a better table with more warmth... and it got pretty cold towards the end of the dinner. The owner of this place is my colleague's friend so I've been wanting to try it out and so glad that I finally did.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
Thoughtful wine selection. Great service. Beautiful space. Just go. Great for a small group. We had a great reunion here.
Be the first to ReplyFood was excellent.
Ordered the Chicken Tajin, the lamb, & a set of starters. Flavors were authentic & refined. Would definitely go back there again.

I was excited to try Moroccan food in SF, but Khamsa was a let down. We ordered chicken bastilla, cauliflower, Tajina and couscous dish. All neat dish were dry and tough- very disappointing. The cauliflower didn't carry much flavor and wasn't quite roasted enough. The couscous was ok, but not enough to save the day.I had high hopes and my friends attested this place used to be much better. It might be an off night- but I don't see myself returning anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible wine list, bland food and nothing like the photos
Terrible wine list, bland food and nothing like the photos of the place. It's tiny and like a dressed up diner trying to be hip. We had one appetizer that we couldn't eat it was so spicy and the main dish was bland. Very disappointing . Slow service and staff couid only say everything was good when we asked for specific recommendations.

I was looking for a place that had some of the dishes I tried in Morocco to savor those flavors again so I chose Khamsa. Cute place with excellent service but the food was lacking flavor and that "oomph" factor. Zaalouk: We liked the eggplant and the warm crispy and fluffy grilled pita bread in olive oil, but there was a lack of spices here. Chicken Bastilla: Pastry was done wonderfully, with a nicely spiced filling. This did get a bit repetitive after a while and the immense amount of powdered sugar and cinnamon did not help.Duck Tagine: A slight bit of gamey taste so you know it's duck, but it was tender and flavored well. I loved the shallots and melted apricots here. Mrouzia: Impressive-looking dish with a lamb shank covered in dates, apricots, raisins and almonds. The sauce was thin and did not penetrate into the lamb as well. It was tender and executed well, but lacked the flavor and textures I was looking for.Perhaps it's a matter of preference, but both the latter dishes had very soft dried fruit and slightly crunchy nuts. I am used to the chew of the dried fruit and the crunch of the almonds. After reheating both dishes in pots the next day, the flavor was richer so both may have just needed more cooking time. You must get rice or couscous with these tagine and mrouzia to soak up the sauces. Couscous is traditionally a Sunday dish in Morocco but lucky us, we get to eat it here whenever!

Stopped here in our way to see Golden Girls Live and were completely impressed by the food, the service and the ambiance of this restaurant. If this was closer to home I'd eat here weekly! We had a large group and everything was hot delicious and timely. Well done!
Be the first to Replyam so sad.
after just returning from Morocco I was excited to return to khamsa. Food was not really good. Cold and without taste. Service was not good. Also cold. Desert was a mess of what should have been crispy deliciousness.
Be the first to ReplyLovely place with great service and delicious Moroccan food.
Bstilla was delicious and beautifully presented, not overly dry as others have stated. The pita with the labne was some of the best in recent memory. And the lamb tanjia was delicious. Portions were large enough to share for two. And the wine list is amazing, with a good selection from both usual regions and much less commonly seen ones, with all wines available by the glass. Very friendly, ย knowledgable service. As it was a BD celebration, we were very kindly comped dessert. Will definitely return.

I would actually give this place a 2 star, because the wait on Valentine's Day was like nothing I've ever experienced before. I'm pretty sure we waited 20 minutes only to get water and maybe another 20 for someone to even ask us what else we want to drink. The food was ok, but too sweet. I loved the desert and the staff was soooo nice, even though they didn't know what they were doing. It seemed like it was everyone's first day in the job except for just one guy (maybe the manager) who was running around like crazy and putting out fires left and right. It was maddening in there. But the ambiance is great, the decor is amazing and the whole atmosphere is just calming somehow, despite all the minuses I listed above. Not sure if I'd give another try but I was left with a warm feeling for all the staff who was trying pretty hard.
