Good but overpriced
We had a nice dinner at Kiku. The service is very watchful (maybe a bit too much), we didn't expect so many waitresses would be around. There is a large choice on the menu, however we found the meals were overpriced. Our teriyaki chicken and salmon were good but the portions were not very generous and no rice on the side. A beansprout starter salad is offered, as well as an end-of-meal tea. Nice and comfortable setting.

Came here for lunch and what a great surprise. They have quite an extensive menu such as lunch set or bento boxes. I had a tempura udon and it was just perfect! Between us we ordered Sashimi and different types of sushi. Absolutely fresh and delicious. Absolutely happy to recommend this restaurant

People who draw comparisons with Zuma, Roka and Nobu simply have no idea what an authentic Japanese restaurant is like. Minimalist and calm with emphasis on food and ingredients Kiku is the best Japanese restaurant in London at probably the last remaining authentic Japanese restaurant in London. The clue is the Japanese embassy is round the corner!

I had heard of Kiku in Kinosaki, Japan. There is a very nice ryokan called Mikuniya that is the source of Kiku. A true family business. And as the food in Mikuniya never fails to amaze me my expectations were high. The restaurant is a prime example of Japanese simplicity. The attention given is Japanese as well. More formal than jovial. I took the Edo tasting menu. Subtle all over, focussing on the character of the ingredients rather than adding to that. I realised that this needed a mindset of its own. It might disappoint people that the beautiful broth that is offered at the beginning is not deeply flavoured but develops as you appreciate it. Like good wine. And so it goes on, to my great delight. This was a meal that makes one a very happy customer. Recommended for those who want to appreciate the preciseness of the traditional Japanese cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyTop marks for the tasting menu and excellent customer service.
A fantastic location and selection of sushi on offer in this 'traditional' and original Japanese restaurant. We tried the tasting menu which had some amazing flavours and sushi we'd never tried before. Booking was taken at short notice and we requested a private area for the family which the restaurant provided with no fuss. A bit pricey but well worth the occasion and experience.

This place is black and white. Good service and food when they are quiet. Awful service when they are busy - they make you feel like you are lucky to get a seat and be served and the sooner you leave the better! Choose your time VERY carefully. We have been going here for years but are now reconsidering! To be frank awful experience for the price!

They're a real humble Japanese restaurant serving traditional foods, not as pricey. The dessert is exactly a taste of home. There is no hurry, no one will remind you that the table is only good for a two-hour dining experience. Forget ROKA, Nobu... Definitely we'll be back soon.

Followed some good reviews and booked for convenience as staying nearby. Not the best meal we have had. Very similar dishes served, despite being the KIKU tasting menu. Lots of prawns, lots of broth and soups. Very basic decor with very Mayfair prices.

Very good sushi. We were very impressed by the quality of the fish as well as the service. However, we were very disappointed when then staff asked us to leave at 10:15pm on a Saturday eveningโฆ And made us pay even if our glasses of wine were still full. Sad to leave this restaurant in that way.

The restaurant is an incredible hidden gem in London. The best tradition sushi and sashimi I have had in a long time. The quality of the rice was impeccable and the fish was very tasty! If you get the chance to try this restaurant, I would recommend also taking a Shabu Shabu. The service was great and smiley! I felt like I was eating in Japan for an hour.. I look forward to returning back very soon. But make sure to reserve as it can get quite busy with the japanese community (small tip: thatโs when you know the food is good)

sushi was very good - although one piece of rice was not firm, have had better rice, and for this price expect excellence. fish was fresh. sharp attentive service.
Be the first to ReplyVery good traditional Japanese restaurant
One of my favorites in London for traditional and quality Japanese food. You have a choice between sitting at a table or at the sushi counter. However, do not expect loud music, inside-out dragon rolls and other Peruvian Japanese fusion. Here, it is all about the quality of the food and the ingredients, in quiet and relatively minimalist decor. If you want real Japanese food, that is a place to go.

great food, authentic Japanese restaurant. So glad we discovered this restaurant. Quality of ingredients used for meals is top!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing service and the waitress refused to take feedback
Terrible service at the restaurant, and the staff told me that the manager was away so there is no way to provide feedback
Be the first to ReplyMassively Overrated and overpriced
Deeply disappointing experience at Kiku after Zuma Nobu and every other quality restaurant in the world. Service Non existing. Way overpriced for bland food and tiny portions. No atmosphere. No music.
Wonโt be back. Back to Zuma and Nobu where quality is guaranteed
Very fresh and authentic.
Very fresh and authentic. This was a lovely meal with the sushi and sashimi sets. Excellent attentive service.

We celebrated my wife's 60th birthday as a family at lunch at Kiku. My wife is Japanese, one of my sons lives in Japan and his younger brother and I have accumulated years of our lives there. We are crazy about sushi, sashimi, tempura, black cod with miso, salmon teriyaki, yakitori, shabu shabu and much more. A friend of mine whose family founded Sony with Mr Morita rates this the best high end Japanese restaurant in London. Our family universally agree. Most of the clients are repeat visitor Japanese which is why we go there. It has not been westernised; it's authentic. The restaurant has a great deal.of personal warmth too. As ever at this restaurant, everything was excellent although the fish is even better than that! The cod was soft, tasty and flaky - in England it is usually hard, tasteless and lumpy. The salmon was likewise beautifully cooked. The prawn tempura were wrapped in the lightest batter and were perfectly flavoursome and soft too. The aubergine with miso was divine. Even the green tea from Shizuoka was unusually smooth. It's sushi are outstanding and it's a struggle to get better anywhere in London. Top, top notch!

My Japanese friend bought us here, wish he had done it sooner! Food was amazing, both raw and cooked. The egg dish was wonderful. Cannot wait to come back. Service was good, not cheap but worth it.

Cute dining room which was light and welcoming with the tables nicely spaced apart allowing for good conversation. The food was exactly what you would expect from a high end Japanese restaurant with my sashimi set lunch wowing with its freshness.
The staff were super friendly but at the same time mostly removed from your notice as we ate (neat trick) so you felt well looked after but not bothered in any way.
All in all a pleasant well priced lunch. First time visited and will certainly go again.
Overrated, questionable service.
The food was disappointing and the service worse. We had expected better from the reviews. Having enjoyed excellent Japanese food in San Francisco, Hawaii, Japan, Paris, and Amsterdam this was crushing to the taste-buds.

Hmmm ยฃ271 for two on the โEdoโ 8 course lunch menu. All the dishes were quite similar. Fish. Broth. Generally a bit bland. Sushi and not sashimi. On the dessert the orange was bitter, the Pineapple not sweet. No one once asked how the food was. Service not that good. For this kind of money I expect superb service and top quality food. Very disappointing. Got the impression they are just processing as many business suits as they can fit in during the lunch time slot.
