La Mer Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
This was a private party where we had the 8 course tasting
This was a private party where we had the 8 course tasting menu. Warning: this place is $$$$$$$. The service was terrific, white glove treatment all the way. The 9 of us sat in a private room with ocean view and were treated like royalty. Perfection. I'm posting a photo of the menu for easy reference. A couple of things I want to pick on though. The lobster was quite chewy and the filet a bit tough. However, the wine reduction for the filet was out of this world. A once in a life time experience. Recommend. There's valet parking at the Halekulani hotel. Dress code for men, in particular, is nice slacks, an aloha shirt is fine, closed toed shoes. No sandals, shorts, jeans, polos. But no need for jacket, tie. Dress nicely in an elegant Hawaiian style.
Fabulous overall experience.
I was seated right in front of the sunset - accompanied by excellent service and very tasty food. I opted for the 7 course tasting menu and was so glad I did - every dish had its own spark and my pallet loved it. The dish that stood out the most to me was the Filet of beef with foie gras - I've always enjoyed foie gras, but this was NEXT level. A very special, tasty, unforgettable experience with a view to die for- a must try at least once!
Amazing food...
Amazing burgers, well made, and great balance of all the parts. Really good, fries as well. We were served quickly, The wait staff responded to our needs and, best of all, the food was great!
Being one of two of the state of Hawaii's only Forbes Five
Being one of two of the state of Hawaii's only Forbes Five Star restaurants, I had to make a special trip to try this restaurant. La Mer has an excellent reputation among the islands as an experience worth dressing up for and that's saying a lot for the casual place that Hawai is. It's located in the Halekulani Hotel and is on the second floor with the best view of ocean. I was staying in the hotel so they made a same day reservation for me. I didn't opt in for a cocktail or the supplement wine pairing because I had a lot of food to get through. The service was seamless and adapted to my pace. I love the use of Hawaiian ingredients with French recipes. The dishes were tastefully plated and I found everything to be delicious. This is the place to go to for major celebrations or a romantic night out or when you just want to indulge in solid fine dining/old world luxury service.
I was so excited to try this place since everyone raved
I was so excited to try this place since everyone raved about it that we decided to celebrate our honeymoon here. I am a local but was gravely disappointed. Service was good, but slow.... we had the 7 course, and each course, we had to wait 15 to 20 min btw each, which kind of threw off our appetite. The servers were very nice. However, they were not very attentative, the fact we had to pour our own wine at a fine dining place like this, and multiple times, I might add really disappoints. The scallop was delicious, but the lobbster was way overcooked, I couldn't even cut it with the knife they gave me, and I am not exaggerating. Everything else was mediocre, not worth explaining. Overall, we spent 2G (including 2 wine and 4 course menu plus tax and tip), it was not worth the price, and I had a way better experience at other restaurants than this place. I'm not sure I'll come back again... it pains me to say this... I really was looking forward to it.

This restaurant was incredible! From the delicious food, beautiful plating, and staff and service on point, made our night truly amazing. We were able to book a late reservation the week we got into the island. Only recommendation is to book way earlier in advanced to get a reservation to take sunset pics, oh and brighter pics of your food! We only got the darkness. But its okay it didn't hinder us, everything else was wonderful and perfect way to spend our Anniversary. We ordered the "Menu du Soir" and this was really the perfect amount of food for us. Amuse Bouche: Fine Slices of Kampachi Beurre Blanc with Caviar Kamapchi Tartare Tarlette Clarified Fish Soup Geelee Bread Basket with butters Entrees: Chilean Sea Bass Lamb Filet Ballotine, Spinach-Garlic Chickpea Ragout Eggplant Caviar Desserts: Waialua Dark Chocolates Red Currant Sorbet Vanilla Souffle, Spiced Caramel, Grand Marnier Anglaise Sauce, Milk Chocolate Sauce, White Chocolate Crisp Happy Anniversary Mousse And....Chocolate Truffles to go in our goodie bag! Yay! We left with full, and happy bellies. Again wonderful and amazing night! Totally recommended!
So good!
I was worried about two things going into the night. First, the dress code and second if I was going to get enough food. The dress code seemed quite fair as long as you were somewhat dressed up. So my wife and I were comfortable in a business casual attire. The food... wow. We got the 7 course meal and it was amazing! We left stuffed to our eye balls!
It was my 15th wedding anniversary and my husband took me
It was my 15th wedding anniversary and my husband took me to the finest dining possible on Oahu, La Mer. I always dreamed of eating here and now that our finances are decent, my husband seems to be into making my dreams come true!!! Anyway, service was wonderful. People came out of the woodworks to wish us a happy anniversary! I don't even know who they were except that they worked there. One thing I wish was to have been able to see the kitchen or meet Chef Trancher! The food was all delightful and perfectly presented. It was a work night and I settled for a cocktail instead of the wine pairing which I think I regret. I feel like the wine pairing would've paced the dinner a bit better. In the end, I'll be back for our next milestone!
We decided to splurge for our 6th anniversary.
Neither of us had been here before, but we love French food and wanted a nice restaurant with a nice view. Valet parking is free, and very efficient. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We were sat by a window, which was really nice. Our server, Luke was excellent. I am so glad we were able to do a la carte, as the menus looked quite large. We each got one appetizer and one main course, and shared a dessert. The food is unusual, but in a cool way. They did kind of a French/Hawaiian fusion. The dessert was a vanilla soufflé which neither of us had had before--it is usually chocolate. It is definitely not the kind of restaurant you leave being uncomfortably full. The portions are small, but it is quality over quantity. The drinks were also quite expensive, but I think it's expected when you come to this kind of restaurant. You aren't just paying for the food--the service, the ambiance etc. We don't go out to eat often and definitely don't go someplace this nice often, but I think for a special occasion it was definitely worth it.
Is this Honolulu’s top spot?
This must be one of the best restaurants in Honolulu. The service, food, ambience, and overall experience were top notch. Throughly deserving of the great reviews and comments. There is either an extensive tasting menu or a la carte from the tasting menus - it is expected that all the table do al a carte or tasting (vegetarian available as the other menu is very fish heavy), which is not unreasonable. The service is “old fashioned” but not fussy and nothing is too much trouble. My only critical point is that the wine is eye wateringly expensive. The mark up on most things is huge and bottles that would cost c.£45 in England start at $180! A real gem.

A tradition we have is to have Christmas Eve dinner at a fine dining establishment. This year with our son and his wife we ate at La Mer. Haven't been here in many a moon, 27 years for dad, about 30 for our son and myself and a first time for our daughter in law. We arrived a little early and took the opportunity to take a few pictures, the hostess seeing us was nice enough to volunteer to take a few of them. Diners are greeted by the manager on duty, Steven. And there was a team of waiters which in our case was led by Mark. They were all very professional but not in a stuffy, formal way. Drinks for women often come with a rose. Dinner starts with an amuse de bouche. We had various things for dinner, one chose the menu of the day, another fish and lamb, fish and lobster and I had the lobster and fillet. All well prepared and presented. The large plates was like a canvas for food instead of a painting. And we all shared a soufflé that came with three different sauces. And even though we ended the meal with small sweets, we each given a small box if more sweets to take home.
A Must in Honolulu!
The view is stunning the food is equal. Every detail was meticulous. The menu was fantastic and they were flexible on substitutions for a charge. They also recommended a fantastic glass of wine that I had never tried after we finished our bottle. The staff here is A+.
One of the best restaurant experiences.
It is a beautiful restaurant with amazing service. The food was superb! Must go and i cannot wait to return!!
Booked this high-end restaurant for my partner's birthday
Booked this high-end restaurant for my partner's birthday and it surpassed expectations. The dress code and price reflect its premium quality. The ambiance was captivating, complemented by a breathtaking sunset view. Every dish was a delight, showcasing amazing flavors and quality. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring a perfect evening. Highly recommended for a memorable celebration!
A 7 star dining!
It's an absolute pleasure to have had the opportunity to dine at this prestigious fine dining restaurant on Oahu, Hawaii. La Mer is located at the popular 5 star Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu. This restaurant is gorgeous. Love the decor and the ambience. Classy and sophisticated. We were very fortunate to have been seated at the table with the stunning ocean view right in front of us. We had an exclusive culinary experience with the elegant 7 course French degustation menu. Food was amazing. Customer service was impeccable. Everything is top notch! The whole experience was a mind blowing. I would give it a 7 star if I could!
Exceptional, Warm and Welcoming
Celebrated a memorable first meal in Hawaii with this fine dining experience. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean the open view and ambiance felt dreamlike. Unparalleled and attentive waitstaff to every detail. Each dish from the tasting menu is elegantly prepared and artfully presented.
Fabulous Views and Excellent Service
We were able to snag a great table at La Mer and watched the sunset. The staff were very attentive and the food was terrific (albeit very pricey). I was glad that the showed flexibility in allowing each of us to pick and choose from the prix fixe menu and the nightly dinner menu.
A must visit when in Hawaii
We had a great dinner here last time we were in Hawaii. This time around we came for a pre dinner cocktail. Such a cool vibe and so polished. The cocktails were made to perfection. Service was spot on. And delicious canapés. A classic must visit when in Waikiki and wanting to treat yourself.
A great way to celebrate 50 years
My husband made a reservation to this restaurant based on reviews in honor of my 50th birthday as we visited the 50th state for our first time. La Mer did not disappoint. From the view, to the service, to the cocktails and wine, to accommodating my gluten-free and dairy-free restrictions, and to the delicious and aesthetically/pleasing culinary masterpieces, La Mer was a first-class, unforgettable experience. Every attention to detail was spectacular, and having a special birthday dessert that I could enjoy was so thoughtful. I am so glad we were able to celebrate my special day with La Mer.
40th anniversary in the back corner of the restaurant
This restaurant is great for a casual night out but not for a special occasion. We let the restaurant know it was our 40th anniversary- we arrived on time for our seating- and we were seated at the back of the restaurant- our dinner was good but the atmosphere was not.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

You can only deposit $50 at a time until you earn the “Sales and Low Refund Medal” I believe. Im new to this as well but the ability to deposit more money at once and increase your amount of listings comes with that medal.
