La Toque Napa Reviews from The Last Year
We do not understand this Michelin star at all !!! We went
We do not understand this Michelin star at all !!! We went this evening and the outside dining area was closed and the inside restaurant look like a dated Westin hotel with artificial flowers on the table and absolutely no decor. This included empty bar tables in the center of the restaurant used for reasons that were not clear. The entree menu is extremely limited. Two of the five entrees are shared (two persons only ) while four of the five entrées -are meat, This created a very narrow set of choices. Can't the chef figure out that an individual may want a veal chop without sharing with his or her spouse or partner.????? The most attractive item on the table was the antiseptic hand sanitizer. I thought it was 2021 all over again. To add insult to injury -they require a $60 per persondeposit. Thank you, -next time i will simply take an In-N-Out Burger and call it a night
Everything about my dinner experience was INCREDIBLE!!!
Everything about my dinner experience was INCREDIBLE!!! From beginning to end I smiled and the food was outstanding!
This restaurant is always an adventure.
Expect the unexpected and enjoy the many surprises presented by the amazing servers, chefs, and sommelier. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. From the amuse bouche to dessert, everything is perfection!
Do Not Go Here.
I'm a local who had nice memories of this restaurant from a couple years ago. I want to point out that the Michelin star is nine years old. We went here to celebrate a.big achievement and I literally left in tears. It was that bad. The staff could care less because you're paying an automatic 20% tip. In general in wine country, if they require a mandatory tip, go somewhere else. That is the sign of a bad restaurant. The good ones don't need to have you supplement their staff's paychecks with automatic fees. First of all, they are charging $40 a glass for wine bottles that are not worth more than $50 to $200. Most restaurants around here will charge about $20 a glass. Secondly, my rabbit entree was completely raw and gross. While they did begrudgingly replace this entrée, everyone else at my table had finished eating, and they still hadn't brought the replacement. It was embarrassing. They had very little remorse about this. pWhen you are charging $50-$160 for an entrée, there is no excuse for raw protein. They still charged us $400! I feel.completely ripped off. Third, everything is very pedestrian. The carpaccio is salty. The lobster salad has too many cold vegetables and underripe mango. And it feels like eating in a hotel, which you are. This is the cement basement of a Westin hotel. Do not eat here! Napa is full of great restaurants. BTW if you go with an 11 year old, they won't allow him/her to access the kid's menu. So i hope your kid likes salty carpaccio or liver or oily pasta!
We had dinner at La Toque on 3/9/2024.
Food was excellent. Everything you would expect for a place like this. We have dined many times at some of the world's finest restaurants in New York, SF, LA, and many major cities in Europe and the food at La Toque was consistently excellent. Prices are reasonable for this level of dining experience. Food service was outstanding. Ambience is ok. Perhaps a B+. Being attached to a Westin Hotel is a bit pathetic, but I would let them slide on this aspect. The only negative I would raise is that the sommelier had a horrible attitude. Not sure why ....... perhaps he had a bad day. Otherwise, excellent experience.
Incredible dining experience at La Toque! Came here last
Incredible dining experience at La Toque! Came here last Thursday with my husband and another couple. We all opted for the chef's tasting menu at $225 pp. We decided not to do the wine pairing and ordered cocktails instead. Food was incredible. We were all blown away by the depth of flavor in every dish. I highly recommend the tasting menu if it's within your budget. Service was excellent! Our waiter and the staff were always attentive. Not once did I have an empty glass of water. Highly recommend adding this restaurant to your list if in Napa.
From chef to service our dining experience was 10/10.
We did the vegetarian tasting menu and everything was so well done and interesting. My fiancé did the wine pairing and that was also really well executed.
It's not just dinner, it's an experience.
The wait staff were all super friendly and described the dishes beautifully. They were all very attentive. I definitely got the sense that the staff here want the customers to have a wonderful night. I had the chef's tasting menu and the food itself was absolutely delectable. Super inventive and unlike anything I've had before. The flavor combinations were wonderful and everything was cooked to perfection. There were so many courses and I definitely did not leave hungry! If you're looking for a nice restaurant for a special occasion, this is the place. I don't think I'll ever forget my night here.
The staff and ambiance are very welcoming, everyone was
The staff and ambiance are very welcoming, everyone was great and the service was excellent. Drinks were very good. We tried the chefs menu and found all of the offerings very inspired and tasty.
The whole Ambiance is absolutely stunning and gives you
The whole Ambiance is absolutely stunning and gives you that luxurious feeling. The flower vases and the overall seating is very impressive. The service is over the top and the style of serving is also very unique. The food is good too. Overall great experience.
Needs their Michelin Star Back!!!!
Great atmosphere, fantastic pairings, and impeccable service! Did the Chef's Tasting Menus with wine pairings - The sommelier was friendly and had lots of knowledge on the pairings. The server suggested the Wagyu for main courses which my partner did while I had the Prime eye of rib. Both were remarkable. Can't wait to go back!
After sleeping on it, I woke up still feeling the same way.
I really thought and expected this was going to be an excellent place to celebrate my wife's birthday and take 2 other couples. I'm going to be brief in this review: the first is, for the menu and price, I expected at least to have table cloths on the tables and not staring at scratched up wood and place mats that look like what we put on our outside patio set. The staff was by far the highlight. Excellent all around, five stars to all of them. The food to me was shockingly subpar and we all did the chef's tasting menu which should be the best display of the chef's abilities. Most items came out way too cool for temperatures. I guarantee if the chef actually tasted those dishes he'd be upset. My whole group commented on it. The scallop was the best and warmest item, with the beef being the worst and actually cool to the touch. I have to say I felt a little embarrassed that I took everyone here on top of the fact that I did not realize it was in the Westin which was odd. No chance ever I would go back and if this is what earns a Michelin star, then I guess I don't understand what that means. 5 stars for staff 2 stars for ambiance/table decor 2-3 stars for food depending on the dish.
I really wanted to like it.
I really did. Service was excellent. Food was sub par. I'm almost positive it's not the same chef. But still has the Michelin star. All i remember was my ink pasta was beyond salty, same as few of the vegetables dishes. Food is not worth the money. Service is though!
We went to La Toque for our anniversary and it was the most
We went to La Toque for our anniversary and it was the most enjoyable experience we have had with dining out. From the moment we walked in, they greeted us by name after learning about our reservation and everyone we had check in on us was happy to do so. The sommelier listened to our preferences and paired an unbelievable cab with our meal. We didn't do the chef's tasting so the French onion soup and wagyu were fantastic. They use a different cheese that gives a unique flavor that left us talking about it on the drive home. Everything was perfect and I can't wait to go back.
Ambiance is dark, quiet, dimly lit, .
..pretty empty on a Thursday night. My husband's meal was a 3-Star meal. His squid pasta app was way too salty and swimming in butter. His duck entree was overcooked and small. My meal was 5-Star. I loved the head-to-tail pasta app...great flavor and the pasta was well made. My halibut was delicious. I guess it all depends on what you order.
La Toque does not deserve Michelin rating
Hard to believe that Michelin would give La Toque in Napa, Ca a Michelin star. My wife and I dined at La Toque to celebrate our 20th anniversary due to the restaurant's Michelin rating. We've dined at many Michelin restaurants around the world including Thomas Keller's Per Se in NYC, Kenzo in Napa, Lin Lung Heen in Hong Kong, to name a few, and La Toque is not in their league. We ordered a bottle of wine and when the sommelier brought the bottle to our table, it was already uncorked. We've never purchased a bottle of wine at any restaurant where the bottle was not shown to us and then uncorked in front of us. We ordered the chef's signature carpaccio and it was bland and chewy. The tuna tartare did not taste fresh. The $110 New York Strip for two was not flavorable, nor tender and the fat was not trimmed. The most disappointed part of our dinner was the service. Although everyone wished us a happy anniversary when we were seated, no server, including the sommelier was warm or engaging. After our main course was served, no one came to our table to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything -- maybe because they knew a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. La Toque charges Michelin star prices, but doesn't deliver Michelin star food, wine, or service and even with Chef Ken Frank in the kitchen.
Thumbs down
I was excited to wrap up our day in wine country with a Michelin star restaurant. I left feeling like they were a one-star-wannabe. Such a disappointment. I’ll start with the positive: My main was delicious The salad was delicious The little box of chocolates they gave was a nice touch Nice that they proactively asked days in advance what dietary restrictions we had. The little things that mattered: Fake flowers on the tables? Really?! Twice in less than two minutes one of our servers came to clear our plates and we weren’t done. One of our servers accent was so thick, after asking three times what we were eating for our amuse bouche we finally gave up and just thanked him. Our table was really scratched up - either buy new tables or cover them with linens. The rest of the experience: I didn’t realize this was in a hotel - would have preferred a more boutique dining experience. I felt like I was eating at any hotel restaurant (with a more refined menu) Our server was fine, but his quest for excellence felt forced vs being genuine. I prefer to take my time at a fine restaurant. I like to order my starter, enjoy, then order my main. They said the mains would take 45 minutes and we should order everything together. Everything came out in pretty close succession. The restaurant was barely occupied. Why the rush?! Will not eat here again.
Worst experience ever!!!
Had a family emergency and needed to cancel within 24 hours notice, they were the most unaccommodating and unsympathetic as was a Robyn employee so unbelievably. Would never ever eat here. Disheartening awful experience.
Magic at La Toque
It is hard to stand out in a culinary paradise like the Napa Valley, but La Toque not only overcomes that challenge, but has risen to the top of the pack when it comes to the finest of dining. From the moment you are greeted by the amiable and professional staff and are led into the dining room which reflects style and class, to the time you depart after a creative and delicious culinary experience, the evening is magical. There is no better chef than owner Ken Frank, who is usually on site (unusual for most of the “celebrity chefs” one hears about) overseeing all aspects of what is to come for his guests. He is an American pioneer in offering the best food and wine pairings on an ever-changing menu to take advantage of the freshest food available. On a given evening you might dine on Broiled Montauk Dayboat Skate Wing with Balsamic Brown Butter, Zante Currants, and Preserved Lemon (accompanied by2021 Vivier, Chardonnay, Gap’s Crown Vineyard, Petaluma Gap); Tortellini with Brentwood Corn and Duck Confit with Savory Chanterelle Parmesan Emulsion (2020 monthélie 1er Cru, le Meix bataille, Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret), or Roasted Rack of Lamb with Pecan and Purple Mustard Crust Tallegio Potato Aligot, and Olive Pepper Relish (2011 Syrah, Lady Rosa, Owen Roe, Yakima Valley). Sometimes caviar. Sometimes some of the world’s best truffles. My favorite? An amazing double cut veal chop with whatever wine Chef and Head Sommelier Mike Lee may have selected. There are options of a chef’s menu (vegetarian and non) and a la carte. The true singularity of La Toque is that it manages to be elegant, unpretentious, fun, and outstanding. No dining experience in Napa, or many other places for that matter, quite matches it.
Can't miss it for your next trip to Napa!
Best meal I've had in YEARS! Brought my family to La Toque restaurant in July and we all did the tasting menu with spectacular wine pairings. The rosti potato with caviar was a huge hit with my family and I personally loved the veal chop... mouth-watering! The atmosphere was top-notch and friendly as all the staff was very attentive. Out of all the fine-dining restaurants in Napa, this is my new favorite! Can't miss it!!
Perfect for celebrations
Made our anniversary so memorable! Brought my girlfriend in for our 5th anniversary and did the chef's tasting menus, she's a vegetarian and they had a whole menu for her too. The wait staff was so kind and everyone wished us a happy anniversary, even the head chef! This definitely hit the mark for fine dining restaurants in Napa!
Worst Michelin restaurant
Very disappointing. Food was mediocre at best. Often over salted. Nothing interesting. Chewiest beef I’ve had. A bit stunned that this place earned a star. Wine pairing was poor. Obviously low cost, local wines. Choices were confusing at times. Service was comical. A guide to the worst times to clear the table and replace cutlery. I’ve never appreciated the art of great service as much as when experiencing the complete opposite. Run away!
This place is worthy of your time and bucks.
Two thumbs up for the chief and the staff who attended us when we were having dinner at this place tonight. Not only it is my wife’s birthday, but it is also our fortieth anniversary all fall on the same day! I reserved the table a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant staff made a note our our reservation details. The experience we received was out of this world. Not only the staff was most warm and cordial, but the chief and his team were outstanding in every way! The foods were exquisite, and delicious, the service was top notch and professional. Though it was our first trip to a Michelin star restaurant, everything we experienced was worthy of the name and the rating! We enjoyed tremendously the professionalism and the warm attitude each and every staff member presented to us either working in the front or serving foods back and forth. I assume that is part of a Michelin restaurant to deliver. Nonetheless they did it and we felt truly special in our personal celebration. Just want to say thanks to the Chief and all his staff. Michelin star well deserved!
Nice Place - DIsappointing Dinner Overall
Dinner with my wife, at what we thought would be a dining experience to remember, which is was but for all the wrong reasons. Service was good, attentive but not over the top, first course French Onion Soup - Good but not hot enough Entree - the duck was warm at best, skin greasy - my wifes pasta was OK Overall a disappointing dinig experience and one that we will return to in the future

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
