CE N'EST PAS LA VIE ("This is not life")
Despite the panoramic views of the Potomac River high atop the restaurant, La Vie was an expensive and utter disappointment. We were a party of four squeezed into one of the seemingly acrylic bubbles dining on a wannabe coffee table. This is place at best for drinks, but don't order the Gentlemen's cube unless you want to pay an extra $2.50 in addition to the drink itself. This was an insult given the per person minimum that had to be met. The food was ok but definitely had better. As a result, have to say this will be a ONE TIME VISIT!
Be the first to ReplyLa Vie Reservations Not Honored: Space and Menu Can Be Sold to a Higher Bidder!!!
As one who enjoys fine dining and is particular about exceptional customer service, Iโve always valued transparency and fairness, both in my reviews and from the establishments I choose to patronize. It is with great regret that I must recount a recent experience with La Vie Restaurant, an establishment I once held in high regard, that has compelled me to share a less than favorable review. Three weeks ago, I made a reservation for four to celebrate my wife's birthday, a decision influenced by the some of the positive critiques and recommendations La Vie has received. This was not just a dinner; it was a celebration of a momentous day, chosen with trust and high expectations placed on La Vie based on its reputed location, ambience, and culinary excellence. Imagine our dismay when, barely 24 hours before our scheduled celebration, I received a text from a La Vie manager stating our reservation was to be altered significantly. The reason? Accommodating a larger, presumably more profitable, group. Our option: relocate to an upstairs area with a โlimited menu,โ a far cry from the experience we were promised and anticipated. This eleventh-hour notification did not just disrupt a carefully planned event; it blatantly disregarded the reservation we made with La Vie, and more importantly, the commitment La Vie supposedly had to us. The decision to prioritize a last-minute larger party over a reservation made weeks in advance not only undermines the integrity of your reservation system but also displays a clear lack of respect for your patrons. Being left to scramble for alternatives a day before a significant celebration was not only inconvenient but distressing. This incident reflects poorly on La Vieโs management and its purported values. A restaurantโs reputation should stand on respect for its customers as much as it does on culinary excellence. Unfortunately, this experience has marred our perception of La Vie, revealing a disregard for individual patrons and a failure to uphold basic hospitality ethics. In sharing this review, I hope to illuminate not just our disappointment but the importance of valuing each patronโs experience. Itโs a harsh reminder that no matter the accolades, the true measure of a restaurantโs quality is reflected in its respect and treatment of its customers. La Vie Management team, you must do better by your patrons! I for one, will not entrust you to any future events as youโve demonstrated that La Vie โreservationsโ can be sold to a higher bidder!
Be the first to ReplyGratifying dining experience filled with extraordinary ambiance
My wife and I were first time patrons at La VIe to celebrate my birthday brunch on Christmas day and weren't disappointed. To set the mood, we enjoyed a breathtaking view of waterfront DC from a penthouse igloo. Our server, Denise, was knowledgeable, warm and very attentive to our requests. The food and drinks were delightful! We've already planned our return in the coming weeks. Kevin & Dawn C.

We went to La Vie for my wifeโs birthday brunch. The menu indicated an extra 24% will be added for service charge and โsurchargesโ to your final bill (very disappointing). We saw the waiter 4 time total. We actually waited for about 20 minutes before we were able to place our last order of food. Food was ok, nothing truly special. Drinks are very over priced as well. Iโd say, you can certainly go to elsewhere for a bottomless brunch for better quality food and much more reasonable prices. The icing on the cake was that they told us that the parking ticket could be validated (and was validated through a machine) however, when leaving, we were told that the validation is not valid since โcolonial parkingโ doesnโt have any agreements with any of the restaurants. I would not go back here. Giving it two stars for the viewโฆ

Not worth it at all. Too pricey. Be aware of %2 and %20 of surcharges. I donโt mind paying this much if the service was good. Food wasnโt any special. Like breakfast type. Paying $400 for 3 ppl for breakfast type food not worth it. Non alcoholic drink was $12 each. They validated our parking ticket. We said at-least we donโt have to pay $23 parking fee. When we got to the gate they told us. We have nothing to do with parking. This is private parking. I wouldnโt recommend. Rip off

Mediocre food, pricey and painfully noisy. There was a 4% surcharge which we found outrageous. The surcharge is probably a cash cow. A 20% percent tip was automatically charged and not appreciated. We will not return.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing place! Worth the visit, great location
What a lovely place, by the wharf, by the river. The food was lovely, hot, fresh, tasted delicious! The pancakes were everything!!๐๐
Be the first to ReplyHighlight was Natalie - thank you!
Natalie was wonderful - she recommended all the best dishes (gnocchi, caesar salad, purple cocktail) and was responsive & friendly. Kudos! She was truly the highlight of the evening. The unexpected 4% surcharge left a sour taste in my mouth, which is regrettable, because I would have definitely come back. I have no qualms about the 20% mandatory service charge, and certainly the service was exceptional, but the rest of the bill made me feel shaken down.

The ambiance of this restaurant was very nice, but in my opinion, the food and drinks were average. I didn't feel that the food and drinks were worth their cost. Worth the experience and to check it off my list, but I wouldn't say that I need to experience it again.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food and Good Service, but Way Too Pricey
Having just arrived in D.C., we chose La Vie on short notice based on the good reviews it had for nearby restaurants and for a price range shown of $$-$$$. I certainly wish we had read the other reviews first, because although the food and service was quite good, it wasnโt worth the inflated prices or 20% gratuity (plus 4% surcharge for whatever) that ran our bill up to $200 for a family of three. No appetizers, no drinks (besides one beer), no sides, and no dessert - only entrees and a nice view of the Potomac. All this to say, if I had to do it all over again, I wouldnโt.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding Meal, Service amd Atmosphere
First time at this restaurant and we are so glad that we kept our reservation. We were running late and thought they would not be able to seat us. So glad we took a chance.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Food - Very Pricey with other caveats
I have to divide this review into 2 parts the food and the business side of the restaurant. From a straight food perspective, this restaurant was very good. Our server was also excellent. The atmosphere and vibe were great and the food came out in a timely fashion. We had the Lamb Shawarma Hummus - Great, Highly Recommended. My wife had the market fish with vegetables also very good I had Seafood Tagliatelle which had a good amount of seafood and was very tasty. Even though it was in a cream sauce, it didn't feel heavy Food wise - a must to try. Special Occasions - Great Choice The business. Food is VERY pricey and would say overpriced. Drinks other than beer will run you about $23.00+ on average. Glass of wine is about $20.00 per glass. The wine was good. Reservations require a credit card, which is not an issue, but it was not noted when I booked it. I got an email the next day that I needed to supply a credit card. Note: I booked my reservation of Opentable but seven seas booking does require a credit card. Cancellation Policy You must cancel within 48 hrs beforehand or get charged $19.00 per person Mon-Thurs or $39.00 other days for late cancel or no shows. Next time I will try and make my reservation the day before when I am sure I am going. A 20% gratuity, and 4% surcharge are automatically added to your bill. Love the restaurant vibe and food but not sure I will go back
Be the first to ReplyIgloo Experience at La Vie
For my birthday, I treated myself and two girlfriends to the Igloo Experience located on the rooftop of La Vie. For the Winter Wonderland Igloo, which is all white decor and perfect for picture moments required a rental $ and deposit. The reservation is 2 hours max starting at the time of rsvp. The menu was amazing and the drinks were tasty. We ordered small bites to share and enjoyed the music and view.

IS EVERYTHING!!! ITS A STUNNER!!! We went at night and boy were we both stunned how beautiful it was. We had to take the elevator to the restaurant and upon walking in we loved the vibes. Windows all around the restaurant so you could see high above the wharf, the hostess staff were very nice and walked us to the bar area where we wanted to sit since there were less people there. The bar area is basically like itโs own restaurant. Sooooooo Instagrammable and picturesque!! Like a fairytale story book, no exaggeration. The bartender was great and served us our drinks and food. I didnโt take any pics of anything regrettably. I donโt remember what my bf ordered but I got a Greek salad (I love salad in general) which was ok. Nothing to run home about. I prefer more lettuce in my salads rather than it being mostly cucumbers and tomatoes. 5 stars for the vibes, ambiance, and experience; 4 for the food. Looking at pictures of this place during the day looks lackluster, but at night when lights are dimmed and the sexy vibes are out, this place is truly a vibe. They also have outdoor seating with a view. We wanted to see so we peaked outside to take a look and it was cuteโฆfull of people sitting a tables and crowded, but cute.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food.
We were recommended this place by a friend and a popular IG foodie account. We were expecting their regular menu but this being thanksgiving they had a "special" thanksgiving menu at $90 per person for a 3 course meal. The options for apps was a pureed cauliflower soup that I could've made for my infant. The only options of the 3 entrees available was a brined turkey and gravy, a mushroom pasta and a mushroom risotto. Seriously? We obviously didn't want turkey cause we're already tired of turkey from earlier thanksgiving gatherings. The pasta and risotto were bland AF. Don't get me started on the equally bland truffle mac & cheese and butter mashed potatoes that tasted like great value boxed items. And get this dessert was comprised of generic pumpkin or apple pie. We walked away pissed as hell after paying $300 for a poor excuse of a Thanksgiving dinner that included two $20 mediocre old fashions and a mandatory 20% tip that the waiter left even when seeing how much food we declined to take to go. But I guess the cash grab at $90 per person for a high profit margin for such a cheap offering was too lucrative for them to pass up. They should've went with their regular menu rather than a half ass attempt at a special holiday menu that shouldve been left to the family gatherings at home.
Be the first to ReplyLa Vie on the Wharf is so bad - a Warning!
I took my daughter and wife to La Vie for a special occasion dinner and now wish I had read the previous reviews. The view was excellent; the service and food were average, but it was beyond expensive, and management was dismissive and sarcastic. My daughter and wife ordered truffle pasta, and after my daughter had eaten about 1/2 of the pasta, she bit into a hard, sharp object, and when she took it out of her mouth, it was a clear hard object that looked like a small push pin. We talked to the manager, who said he thought it might have come from the kitchen. He then offered to replace my daughter's pasta or take one of the pastas off of the check. My daughter and wife were not going to finish their pasta and risk finding another foreign object in their meal. Our special night out was ruined - the offer to take one of the pastas off the bill did not cover the trama my daughter felt or make up for a ruined Saturday evening. I then talked to the general manager - and he was not willing to do anything other than take one of the plates of pasta off the bill. When we stated that we did not feel that was an acceptable solution manager, Mr. Reyes then condescendingly offered that he would โbe happy to call an ambulance for my daughter.โ We felt the management was both dismissive and sarcastic in dealing with our concerns. We then asked for the check and they took the pasta off the bill and noted it as a "kitchen error.โ We left the restaurant hungry, humiliated, and traumatized. I have to say that I never experienced such poor customer service in any situation.
Be the first to ReplyNever actually made it, but not for lack of trying
Never actually got to eat here because they canceled our dinner THREE TIMES 1. Called us due to inclement weather asking us to reschedule--no problem! However, they rescheduled us for the wrong date despite us literally being on the phone spelling it out for them. 2. Had to call back to get the booking done correctly, at which point they said the date/time we wanted was full. Which it may not have been had they put us in when we asked them to in the first place. 3. Got an email from OpenTable at 245 PM THE DAY OF stating that the restaurant canceled our reservation. No explanation, no contact from the restaurant. This is despite them putting a hold on the credit card that will allow them to charge a deposit if you cancel less than three days in advance. The hypocrisy is strong. Attempted to call once we saw the email and they were open in order to get an explanation/possibly reschedule--no answer for the whole hour we tried to get in touch! Which is fine I guess, since we've now lost interest in ever coming.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service - ask for KD!
I was there for the Penthouse event and decided to try the restaurant. The ambience and food (and desserts) were truly amazing. KD took really good care of us. He was very kind and thorough with the menu. After dinner, he gave us a tour of the different rooms inside of the restaurant. I would certainly visit again just for KD's service. Please ask for him if you decide to visit!

Definitely a place to "see and be seen", very fun. Absolutely excellent food and service, although very expensive, even for D.C.

Be the first to ReplyLa Vie DC-Memorable Meal and Private Room Water Views
We enjoyed the private dinner space at La Vie, which offered a beautiful location and delicious food for our group for dinner. Located at the Wharf in DC, La Vie has spectacular water views throughout the space with tall ceilings and huge walls of windows. Wonderful food selections included Mediterranean dips, short rib gnocchi, mushroom risotto, delicious Branzino fish, charred brussel sprouts, and beautiful desserts. Staff members were fantastic and very friendly-would rebook a meal here without hesitation.

We chose to dine at La Vie for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed the food, view and service! The tuna tartare was the star of the meal. We also enjoyed the Kafta and Ribeye (sadly it was over cooked). A delicious ganache chocolate cake finished the meal nicely.
