My worst fine dining experience.
Most dishes are mundane and one particular dish, the veal tartar, was overly salty (we all 3 agreed). Informed the server but got no response. No wonder the restaurant was almost empty when we went (only 2 tables are filled)
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, the presentation is nice as well.
Customer service is on the top level, they were super positive and happy to talk to :)

Note that L'Appart has now transitioned into a private venue space. We came here a while back, specifically interested in their caviar service. My friend thought it would be great to 'divide-and-conquer', as the menu offerings two options for each course (appetizer, main course, cheese course, and dessert). We started off with the Royal Ossetra from Petrossian - this was served with homemade blinis, creme fraiche, hibiscus pickled red onions, and watermelon vodka lemon. This was generous in serving and fun to share. We then went through the progression of menu, sharing: +The Summer Tartelette - prepared with goat cheese, green peas, fava beans, edamame, grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, radish, asparagus, fennel, scallions, olives, and tomato puree +The Tomato Lobster - a tomato salad with red onions, olive oil, ricotta, croutons, pine nuts, capers, lobster, pickled red onions, and basilic pesto +Secreto Iberico - polenta piquillos, chives, charred broccolinis, meat jus vinaigrette, mustard, sherry vinegar, chives, and parsley +Ora King Salmon - with couscous, cucumber, confit lemon, yellow peppers, olive oil, and a Greek yogurt condiment (opted out of cilantro) +a 5-cheese cheese course - included comte that was 12-months aged, fourme d'ambert, st-stephen, ossau iraty, and mimolette, served with spicy nuts and a strawberry-lemon verbena jam +finishing with a Cherry Clafoutis with amaretto vanilla mascarpone Service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is cozy and private, with a bit of charm. +caviar service +friendly service
Be the first to ReplyVery charming and private place.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, wonderful wines. Highly recommended for a romantic date night.
Be the first to ReplyI honestly cannot give this place more than a 1 star.
I am only giving a star because the staff was very friendly. I have been to many Michelin Starred restaurants around NYC and outside of NYC and the food here was by far the worst. I don't mind paying hundreds for a meal but when the food reminds me of something that my daughter could make it an Easy Bake, that's when the line is crossed. In addition, I was looking forward to the duck course, that was listed on the menu on the website and the same menu we received once seated for our meal. About midway through our meal, we noticed that the staff in the kitchen were arguing about something, which left my girlfriend and I to believe that it was because they did not order the duck that was promised to us on the menu! They ended up bringing out something completely differently to fill in for their mistake, without telling us that they actually made a mistake! False advertisement. Terrible.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely exceptional.
I've tried every Michelin tasting menu out there and this is by far the best. Read all the other reviews to get a sense for what to expect but don't read too many as you want some element of surprise. L'Appart is absolutely phenomenal from the moment you sit down until you leave. We can't wait to go back when the menu changes.

We dined here twice in a few months, and I can't wait to go back very soon (they change their menu quite frequently). Every dish was executed with perfection, every bite melted in my mouth. Perfect amount of food for each course and overall. Chef is humble and charming. Service is personalized. They deserve two Michelin stars, and the Michelin guide should be ashamed for not awarding them one.

L'Appart continues to be #1 hidden Gem in downtown Manhattan. They constantly update their menu with innovative dishes. The rhythm and sequence of the course is effortless and harmonious. Just a perfect evening of food, intimate atmosphere and great wine. The service is just outstanding, warm and welcoming, and personal without being intrusive. I keep repeating myself but we visit a lot of Michelin rated restaurants and L'Appart is better than many 1-Star rated establishments in the city.

The food was really good. The ingredients were unique and fresh. The service was exceptional. I highly recommend!

Occasion: Mom's Birthday! Because she deserves it! The restaurant reached out ahead of our dinner and asked dietary restrictions and the name for the Birthday dessert:) My course menu differed a little since I'm pescatarian and I loved how personal they made it to me and my mom. Most dishes were lovely! Here's some of my highlights: - Tartare in phyllo baskets on a bed of quinoa (the quinoa was so visually distinct and mysterious, I loved the presentation) - White asparagus with black caviar - Morel mushroom egg yolk ravioli (wow!!) - Pistachio Swordfish with artichokes - Melted Winnimere cheese - Earl Grey jelly dessert I was upset at the execution of the Monkfish in garlic foam with ramps on the side. It was soooo salty! I loved the idea of the dish and ramps are my favorite seasonal vegetable so I was really sad to not have been able to enjoy this one. As well as the rock hard bread that was served along with the mains. The mocktails lacked which I am unfortunately used to. The first one tasted like water with an orange peel oil. C'mon. Thankfully the server noticed I wasn't drinking it and offered to make something else (although they later charged me for both). The ambiance/decor wasn't anything exceptional but I had a great time since I was with mom! And we were chatting and giggling which I felt was a little out of place since everyone was so serious. Especially because I took a shot of the soup instead of using the spoon as it was served in a shotglass. They came and told me to spoon it. Lol! We had a wonderful time. Also! The reason they asked for my mom's name is to write it on the Birthday card that they gave her in the end. They took a photo of us, printed it in the card along with the menu. So thoughtful. What a beautiful surprise and a memory for us:)
Be the first to ReplyThe food is authentic, the drinks are spectacular.
Definitely recommend for a small vibe.

My husband and I really enjoyed the food and felt super comfortable the entire meal! But, when we got the bill, we noticed we were charged $100 even for a $19 cocktail. It's hard to see how this was an accident and left a bad impression for us.
Be the first to ReplyHands down - the best tasting dinner that we've had.
Started with the caviar service which as a first timer I rather enjoyed! The French rolls and baguette were perfect and the butter! The entrees were all perfectly seasoned and portioned, presentation was 100%. Service was impeccable. The loveseat seating makes this place perfect for special occasions but there's also larger tables. Will be celebrating and eating here just because whenever we can!
Be the first to ReplyL'Appart was an amazing evening.
From the moment we walked in experience began. We were welcomed and sat immediately. The restaurant had 8 tables and decorated in good taste. The only thing that I would say looked a bit out of place for a Michelin Rated restaurant was the sound system was set up on top of a wine refrigerator. At no point we're we rushed but they would immediately clear the table once they noticed we were done with our course. We had 3 individuals servicing our tables and they were all great. We started with the sautéed frog legs with gribiche sauce on the side. Then came the Royal Ossetra which was AMAZING served with homemade blinis, crème fraiche, capers, and fingerling potatoes. We moved to the butternut squash espuma which was a delight. The scallops were next and just melted in our mouths. The main courses were the King salmon and pork chops they were unbelievably delicious. They finished with an apple dessert which I must admit I couldn't finish because I was so full! The extra item that we added to the tasting menu was the rigatoni pasta with shaved black truffle. OMG that was off the charts! A must if you decide to go!Once again ...a very nice and delicious experience!

I've tried a lot of tasting menus (including other Michelin Stars) and this meal has been by far one of my top favorites. Every dish was phenomenal and the service was outstanding. As others mentioned the setting is quite intimate with only 8 tables and the staff takes every effort to make you feel special. The caviar service was probably our favorite - the blinis are so soft and delicious on their own. The one dish that I personally didn't like that much was the poached chicken so I didn't eat much of it but my boyfriend loved it. When the staff saw I left most of my plate untouched they immediately asked me how they can fix it. It's rare to see that in many nyc restaurants nowadays. Definitely do the wine pairing - every pour if very generous and paired well. We liked all of them except the port. The menu changes every couple of weeks so we will definitely be back again.
Be the first to ReplyHigh quality fine dining experience.
From the food to the service to the ambience. French food usually isn't our favorite, but this place helped change our mind. Interesting combinations of flavors and textures, including caviar with pickles on a type of bread I have never tried before. The fish with asparagus sauce is delightfully rich. And the servers are extremely classy and friendly - they gave us a list of restaurants they recommend for when we travel to France (they led us to some of our favorite meals).

Great presentations on all dishes, the place is very upscale. Many times it can make people uncomfortable but it's very cozy. Service is great. We really enjoyed it
Be the first to ReplyHands-down one of my FAVORITE Michelin star restaurants
Hands-down one of my FAVORITE Michelin star restaurants I've ever been to. Wow. What an experience!!I'll start with it CAN be a little tricky to find. It is located inside Brookfield Place, next to the bar inside Le District. There are several maps and directions online, and they are helpful if you need to call them (they seem well aware their location is tricky). There are only 8 tables inside this restaurant, it feels very intimate and cozy. Sunlight streams through the translucent curtains into the entire restaurant. All tables have a view of the kitchen, and it is such a great experience to see the chefs cooking everything (some will even come around the counter to serve you some of the dishes). The service was impeccable, 10/10. Very classy restaurant and staff- they offer to take your coat at the door, and even give you a miniature barstool on the ground for your purse.I did the 8 course tasting menu and HIGHLY recommend it so you can try everything on the menu. It is WELL worth the money. I thought each individual course displayed unique flavors, I loved each and every one of them. My favorite courses were the homemade blinis (with caviar, creme fraiche, red onions, fennel, and carrot cilantro), and the gnocchi made from Ramps paste (with pata negra ham, persillade, and pine nuts). My favorite dessert was actually the pre-dessert; passion fruit and guava ice cream (with a fruit salad composed of kiwi, dragon fruit, and pineapple). It was SO refreshing, I've never had a dessert like it. Every single course popped with flavor and was unlike anything I've ever tried. Rotating menu every 4 weeks, so you will most likely try new ingredients each time you go. Really, really impressed with this restaurant and would return again in a heartbeat.

I had a lovely time at L'appart, but too be honest, I was hoping for more. Generally the dishes were very good, of high-quality, beautifully plated, and perfectly cooked, but some of the dishes needed a bit more balance on the seasoning. For instance, the entrees on this month's tasting - the lamb was a tad too salty. The sea bass was wonderful with the morels, but the sauce was so buttery that it needed an extra element - something to cut through that richness. Since I brought my partner here for his birthday, I was delighted that the staff took care of my reservation note and offered a signed card and complimentary dessert. It was a nice gesture, and my partner enjoyed it, but I am surprised that there wasn't more to it. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but considering how much patrons must shell out at a place like this, I was hoping for something a bit more visually enticing and special than a single macaron on a plate with a candle. And while I appreciated the Chef bringing us one of his plates during the meal, I was surprised that while he spent a considerable amount of time speaking to the table beside us, he didn't visit our table again to offer regards even though there were no other tables to tend to. Having said that, the two servers we had were one of the highlights of our experience - they were wonderful - super prompt, attentive, and friendly. Yes, I acknowledge that my expectations were very high, but given this is a Michelin-starred place and one of the most expensive restaurants in New York City that prides itself on a personalized experience (one that can cost you near $1000 for two tastings, two accompanied wine pairings & gratuity), I really should have been blown away. I can't say that a second visit would be worth it. Food on this month's menu: 7.5/10 Wine pairing: 10/10Servers: 10/10Value of experience: 7/10Overall experience: 8/10
Be the first to ReplyAn incredible experience.
I recommend the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Thank you, chef.

We came for two birthday celebrations, and it was a great experience for the food, wine and ambiance. It felt like a private kitchen with only 8 tables. The dishes met my expectations for Michelin One Star restaurant. I especially loved the carrot cake (with very thin layers of carrot and walnut on top) and the wagyu beef (perfect pink color and tender texture). There was one cheese that was soaked in beer that was extremely awesome and had the taste that I'd never had before.I'm general, as a Michelin, it's meeting the expectations for quality of food and level of innovation.
Be the first to ReplyFive stars just doesn't seem like enough.
Chef Nico and his team develop a new menu every month. The creativity, quality, presentation and combination of flavors is always consistent. In addition, the service is personal and efficient. We now come every time the menu changes so as not to miss the incredible creations coming from the kitchen. If you are looking for a unique experience in a lovely setting, do not miss L'Appart. I cannot say enough great things about this place!

My boyfriend took me here for our 1 year anniversary and I was IMPRESSED. I couldn't believe he found this gem by himself! It was a bit hard to find because we had to cross like 10 different rooms of a different restaurant to finally arrive and once we did...IT WAS SO CUTE! Just like a small apartment (L'appart) in France. It was intimate and basically you had a Michelin star chef cook for you in your own home. The service was 10/10 and the food was 10/10. Every bite was a song and a dance. The tasting menu is SO well priced ($215/pp) considering they give you a whole tin of caviar that's priced at $130. A few standout items were the scallops and THE BREAD. But everything you'll taste will be simply amazing. So incredibly happy to get a taste of the finer things in life at such an affordable price!

I am still dreaming about my dinner experience here!My brother and I celebrated my early birthday dinner, and I was so in awe of our dining experience. We both had the tasting menu at the time, and each course was phenomenal. Their tasting menus change every so often, and during this particular menu my favorite dish was the pre-dessert, which was a lovely combination of passion fruit ice cream, coconut foam, lime zest, and Latik. I thought it was so cool that being in a French restaurant Chef Nico incorporated small touches of Filipino cuisine into his menu. My brother and I split 1 wine pairing with our dinner, and it was fantastic. My favorite wine in particular was one of the chardonnay wines, and it was by far the butteriest ever! Service was also spot on. Chef Nico, himself, was very personable and hospitable.Would absolutely return next time we are in town!
