L'Ardoise Saint Barthelemy Reviews from The Last Year
Best duck confit ever, better than some of the ones I've
Best duck confit ever, better than some of the ones I've had in Paris . Of course good wine as well. It has a romantic ambience and perfect for dates. The service is charming. Highly recommend!
Always meant to leave a review for here.
Me and my gf come here once a year and they always remember us. The food is incredible and honestly way more affordable than a lot of comparable restaurants; the sides are especially cheap and the portion sizes are great. Really cute neighborhood location and ambiance too. One of the best places in sf

Had the pleasure of dining at their restaurant again and it was still amazing experience. Loved the decor, loved the service all around, and loved the food from start to finish. Their warm goat cheese salad and their butter lettuce were a delight! Both salads were delicious on its own so you cannot go wrong choosing either. Or simply just get both! I got the ribeye this time and it was delicious in every bite. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and totally melt in my mouth! I also loved their crispy potatoes! Felt like I was eating fries ! I loved it. Off to finish up with their apple tartin which is always my favorite. Definitely try this place if you haven't yet!
A quaint hole in the wall restaurant.
One of the best meals I've had in SF. The chocolate dessert is worth the calories!

A friend recommended this restaurant to me describing it as "one of the best French restaurants in SF". Arrived at 7, restaurant was full of diners, with just a few empty tables awaiting the next wave of people. FYI you have to place your full order all at one time. Wine selection from our waiter complimented our meal nicely. We order the escargots ( untraditionally served), ravioli ( I would order more! Delicious) and Brussels sprout salad( different, but very good). Entrees came and we're very underwhelming. Duck was dry, steak was nothing special and the coq au vin was a bit flavorless. If I return I'll be sitting at the counter, ordering appetizers and having a bottle of wine to myself.

This is an amazing spot! L'Ardoise is a small French restaurant on the corner of a mostly residential street. The experience is intimate. The service is welcoming helpful and seamless in perfect execution. As for the food I found it to be amazing! The tiger prawn ravioli appetizer was perfectly prepared and the light sauce complimented it perfectly. The cocovan and the rack of lamb. Amazing! Desserts, the floating island in creme brulee beautifully presented, delicious! Delicious! Delicious. The wine selection is also great! We got a bottle of The Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Staff presented it well and the wine paired beautifully with the meal. This is a gem of a neighborhood restaurant. A great date night place as well as a place to go and know you will have a wonderful time. My thanks to the staff for taking a last minute reservation and treating us like gold.
Amazing! A local favorite.
Every dish, the service & the ambience. Impeccable! And they do indeed have l'ardoise (a chalkboard) with the daily menu scrawled upon. The most authentic & traditional French cuisine in SF. Also if you like to practice your French :-)
I would say it's very good but not great.
It's a very unpretentious and casual place. The seating is very tight. You've got tables literally 6 inches from each other but whatever the food overall is quite good. We had the tiger prawn ravioli, and the special mushroom soup which was just OK thought it could be richer, the bread they give you is quite good as it should be being a French restaurant. service is good but not overly personal. It's more of a casual bistro vibe which is fine. I will say the much lauded Duck Confit is just so so for $35 I was expecting better. My companion got the hanger steak and fries, which was totally worth it ,however the duck confit, which is more of an elevated dish should be served in a more elegant fashion. It was served pretty much the same way the hanger steak was with a little side of greens and some potatoes. The actual duck itself was just OK I think I got a bad piece. They said it was a very authentic version, cooking for seven hours, but I've had better at other places, kind of disappointing for the price ..it's a good place but could be better....
Always solid food and service.
Helpful friendly staff and great food. Get reservations if you can, it tends to fill up fast at dinner.

L'Ardoise Bistro is a hidden gem in the city, offering up a tasty blend of French flavors in a cozy setting. The staff here are top-notch. We started with the asparagus and escargot, which were a hit - perfectly cooked and full of flavor. For the main event, we went for the coq au vin, and it didn't disappoint. Tender chicken in a rich wine sauce - what more could you ask for? The only downside? The tables are a bit close together, so it can get a bit loud and you might catch bits of other people's conversations. Overall, L'Ardoise Bistro is a must-visit for French food lovers.

This is one of the places I recommend for a date night in the city. I love the ambiance and how romantic it is. It nested in Duboce Triangle district which is a such a cute area. Came here for an anniversary dinner and had a fantastic night! For appetizer, we had the escargot and warm bijou goat cheese salad. Great starters! For entrees, we got the leg duck confit and braised bistro coq au vin. Let me just say, YUM! I have no words. everything came out perfect and was amazing. We paired it with glass of red wine and it was just a great meal overall. Never hurts to get dessert at the end and I must say their dessert is exquisite! I love their apple tarte tatin and their floating island. Everything was spot on. Highly recommend this place !
Got a ribeye and a truffle risotto.
The food tasted amazing but the service felt kinda snobby. The vibe is nice. Don't sit near the wine bottle shelf as a bottle fell and wine and glass splashed on me.
good food and ambiance.
portion sizes are also rly nice and the dessert was also rly good
I'm hesitant to leave this review because L'Ardoise is
I'm hesitant to leave this review because L'Ardoise is arguably my favorite restaurant in SF and I don't really want to share. It's an intimate restaurant making a great date night and the food is par excellence. Service is always amazing and you can call the restaurant to make a reservation. The Tiger Prawn Ravioles are a great start to the meal and they can be made shareable. For entrees, I suggest the Steak with Pommes Landaises or the seasonal Risotto. The Duck is another good option if steak isn't your preference. This restaurant is in my regular rotation and I've never had a negative experience.
Good people good food good experience.
As my grandfather said way back in the 70s and the 80s. What more do you want at a restaurant. Keep it going. Thank you and much love.
My favorite French restaurant in SF.
I be especially live the steak. The service is friendly. Ive had many good meals there and cant wait to go back!
This is a great spot for spot on French food.
It's been awhile since I had a great meal in the city without breaking the bank. Unpretentious, consistent and well executed, I will be back...

AMAZING! This place is one of the top restaurants in SF for a reason ! Can't miss the duck
Had a great dinner here with a friend.
The service was excellent (maybe a tad too attentive but better than the alternative). Server was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The ambience is perfect; cozy with comfortable seating and dim light, not too noisy. We got the window seat and it was so nice and tucked away and great for people watching. The food was mostly fantastic. Nothing innovative, just very well made French bistro staples. We got one of the specials for a starter (some kind of endive salad) and it was a little underwhelming but the mains were delicious; duck confit and steak frites. Would definitely come back.
