Had chicken Pad Thai and crab Rangoon delivered.
The Rangoon were inedible and the Thai was bland and dry at best.

Much increased prices within six months, and now they charge $2 for a SMALL bowl of *white* rice (not brown rice) that used to come with their curries, which means it now comes to nearly $20 per serving just for regular chicken or tofu curry that isn't necessarily mind blowing. I have never been to a Thai restaurant anywhere in the U.S. or in the world that charges you for rice that accompanies a curry dish. As an Asian person from Southeast Asia as well as a longtime resident who has been a patron of Thai restaurants everywhere I go in the U.S., I shouldn't have to state the obvious: Curry comes WITH rice. What, am I supposed to bring my own rice? The food as well as service is still fine and the ambiance is still good. I get that prices have gone up but to charge for rice with a basic curry dish that is already about $18 is rather unconscionable. My friends and I will be going elsewhere for our work lunches and dinners if they continue to charge for rice.

Food is wonderful, service for the one time I ate there (vs takeout) was good, prices are reasonable, too.
Be the first to ReplyLaughing Monk is pretty spacious, so it is good for a group
Laughing Monk is pretty spacious, so it is good for a group meal. I've been here twice and have never had issues with the service. Food: - Thai Iced Tea: A classic drink at any Thai place. It was very creamy and did not taste powdery. I would get this again. - Shrimp Thai Fried Rice: This dish was a bit oily, but the wok flavor is very nice. Lots of umami. - Chicken Mango Curry: The chicken was pretty dry, but the curry was well balanced. However, it is not the best mango curry that I've had. - Beef Pad See Ew: This dish was very salty. I am not sure if it was an off day or if it is usually this salty. - Flan and Sticky Rice: This dessert felt like a scam to be honest. You are pretty much paying for the presentation because the flan and sticky rice were each about the size of a quarter. This was recommended by our server, but we were very disappointed because we could not taste anything given the size. This was my second time here. I enjoyed my first time more, especially since prices have increased quite a bit without the same increase in quality or variety, but I would come a third time for the omakase, as that seems to be a good experience based on reviews.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered for delivery from here and the short story is.
..really, really good pad thai. Presentation was also quite unique. I definitely will go out of my way to pay this place a visit. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: N/A Ordered delivery. SERVICE: 10/10 Smooth delivery and everything was packaged beautifully. Cohesive logos, packaging, every little detail was in place. The pad thai was in an interesting box with all the components at the top. FOOD: 9/10 (I know the math doesn't add up but I weighted the pad thai much more heavily) Pad Thai - 10/10 - First thing is first. Who the HELL packs pad thai into an ice cream container?! I guess Laughing Monk does. More like MAD MONK. But it works. It was beautifully package and beyond the presentation, the pad thai was simply...delicious. Perfection. There was not a single thing out of place with this chicken pad thai. The BEST pad thai in Boston. The flavors were all correct, not too sweet, not too spicy, not too sour and not too salty. Get it. Chicken Satay - 5/10 - This was kind of disappointing. Not really flavorful and the sauce that came with it could not help it much either. VALUE: 9/10 PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 10/10 I will try and come here in person. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Come and eat the best pad thai in Boston. OVERALL: 9.5/10

Great Thai food, got the Jungle Curry which was flavorful and yummy. Friendly waiters and staff. Perfect brunch place right off the Green Line, I think they have lunch deals as well on the weekdays. The interior is cute and nicely decorated!
Be the first to ReplyLaughing Monk is an amazing Thai and sushi spot in Mission
Laughing Monk is an amazing Thai and sushi spot in Mission Hill, but they also have two other locations. I have ordered takeout here several times and I went in for dine in a few years ago and every time I have been extremely satisfied all around. I love pad thai even though it's such a "basic" thai food and despite it being so basic, it is somehow really hard for restaurants to nail pad thai perfectly (at least in my opinion). It can either be too dry, too mushy, too fishy, or not enough flavor. I find that their pad thai is one of the best and is perfect. I get it almost every time with chicken and it is SO good and slightly expensive but for the quantity I think it is worth it. The sushi is just as amazing and I think it is the best sushi spot in Mission Hill by a landslide. More expensive than Sushi Today and Ginger Exchange but the quality and freshness is unmatched. I love their shrimp tempura roll (featured in the photo) but also love their spicy shrimp/salmon/tuna roll and have also enjoyed their specialty rolls. I am hoping to try some of their other dishes like the curries and other noodle/rice dishes because they look amazing! Another plus is their takeout packaging! They give you the peanuts on the side in a packet which is great for allergies and they give you a little container to put your soy sauce in for dipping. Highly recommend this spot for both sushi and thai food!
Be the first to ReplyThis is our go-to take out spot.
Great sushi and Thai food. We order from here almost on a weekly basis and I've never been disappointed. We've tried the omakase here twice as well during the pandemic - was very impressed with the presentation for a takeout omakase, which was great and very reasonably priced.

The seafood Pad Thai was great! A little bit sour, but overall was delicious. Spicy fried chicken was rubbery, not recommended.

I ordered take out from here: Pad Thai with crispy chicken, Lo Mein Garlic with veggies, and drunken noodles with veggies. The containers were pretty heavy and the servings were big. Out of these, my favorite was the Lo Mein Garlic with veggies. Lo Mein Garlic with veggies: the noodles are a bit sweet, but the veggies balance it out to bring out different flavors. One thing I noticed is that the veggies were very fresh and still had a bit of a crunch. I especially liked the ginger snap peas and cabbage. Drunken noodles with veggies: this dish is spicy but again the veggies are fresh and flavorful. I especially liked the cauliflower and ginger snap peas. I also like that there aren't too many big clumps of drunken noodles so all noodles are packed with flavor rather than white on the inside. Pad Thai with crispy chicken: this dish is sweet with a hint of lime. I liked the crunch of the mung bean sprouts, it switches up the texture of the soft noodles. The crispy chicken was not my favorite since it was a bit tough and chewy.

We stumbled on this gem while trying to avoid the cutting cold winds. Its a smaller place so seating is limited. We got lucky and got some last minute seats at the bar. We ordered some sushi and it was delicious but my favorite is probably the coconut ice cream at the end. Honestly could have ordered three of those just for dinner
Be the first to ReplyOver all good.
Would probably give it 3.5 stars if that was an option.Pros: Pad Thai was exactly what I wanted. It was perfectly delicious. I would have liked a tad more spice but nothing a few red pepper flakes couldn't take care of. The take out packaging is adorable and creative. Cons:I got the crispy chicken on my Pad Thai because it was flagged as 'popular' on the Uber eats app. I regret that. The chicken was grey and a bit slimy. I couldn't eat it. Next time I will stick with the regular chicken.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Talk about delicious food and great serving portions.
Probably one of the best meals I've had in along time. I certainly recommend to make a reservation and try the gyoza! I would come back to even celebrate my birthday! Thanks again for the service and great food!
Be the first to ReplyLaughing Monk Cafe is located right next to the green line
Laughing Monk Cafe is located right next to the green line train stop. We tried the thai tea, sushi, green curry and crab rangoons. The thai tea is BOMB!! A must get. The crab rangoons were interesting and the texture of the skin wasn't crispy enough. The filling was comparable to other places. The green curry was huge and could be split between two people. It was a little spicy, but pairs perfectly with rice. The server was super attentive. It was quite busy for a snowy Wednesday night.
Be the first to ReplyFood was delicious, environment was cozy.
I got the tofu kua gai from their noodle selection and it perfectly satisfied my thai cravings.

Excellent sushi! The Hamachi sashimi is marinated and pure Heaven. The rolls are expensive but worth it. The entree portions are huge. The chicken in the stir fry tasted like plain boiled chicken which was the reason for the one star reduction. This is great restaurant to go to if looking for a quick meal while at BWH. You can walk through the hospital to building 15 and it's basically across the street.
Be the first to ReplyNot a big fan over price and the sushi is small it's all
Not a big fan over price and the sushi is small it's all brown rice everything looks pre package and the staff isn't friendly I live in the neighborhood and wish you got what you paid for .
Be the first to ReplyAll around okay Thai food.
..I can't lie, I expected more from the menu on the surface. The roti left much to be desired, it felt like I was eating empty dumplings which is not typical roti in my experience. The stir fry we got was steamed veggies, solid quality ingredients but again, not what I expected in a "stir fry" lastly the overall service could've been a bit more mindful of the fact that we were there to catch up. Overall a bit of upwelling on what they were good at would've been appreciated instead of letting us order items that weren't in their pocket. All that said, the Crab Rangoon was amazing and I would recommend this place over most for the Crab Rangoon alone.Ambiance is on point as well and I imagine the sushi bar is a quality experience given the light and projector show.
Be the first to ReplyWe were so excited about trying out this place due to Yelp
We were so excited about trying out this place due to Yelp rating and our friends recommendation. We made a reservation was quickly sat. That's the only thing that was right. Things pretty much went downhill from there. We ordered Beef Satay (never came), Fried Roti, Unaji Don and Sashimi Dinner. Fried Roti was disappointing. It came with a tiny 1oz ramekin that was only half way filled. When we asked for some extra sauce, the server gave us the vibe that "how dare we asked for more sauce." A bit later she dropped off the main courses. Rice never came with the Sashimi Dinner as stated on the menu. When I asked the server if the rice was coming. She responded if I wanted some rice? As she stepped away after dropping off the rice, I noticed it was just a bowl of jasmine rice. I could be wrong but it should be pretty standard that the rice served with sashimi should be the short grain rice used for sushi. I stopped her and other time and politely asked if this was a mistake. She said other sashimi dinner comes with the sushi rice but this one comes with jasmine rice (never indicated in the menu, again I would assume it is standard). She walked away and was going to replace it. Another server came over and made a big point of how it wasn't supposed to come with sushi rice and that she would do it for this one time. We were pretty upset by this point on how they handled our request. When she returned with the sushi rice and made a point to say that again and also loudly, now it really crossed the line of my patience level and I responded that don't make this sound like you are doing me a favor and forget about the sushi rice. We took the jasmine rice back instead. The food wasn't good. It had nothing to do with the service. The eel looked like it had only been microwaved at best. The sashimi had no flavor. Fried Roti was literally a rip-off. I was willing to overlook all these if the service was great. Unfortunately the service was the worst part of the experience.
Be the first to ReplyThai food here is decent but don't get the sushi! Brown
Thai food here is decent but don't get the sushi! Brown rice doesn't really go with sushi and they are so overpriced for the quality and flavors we got.
