Le Baratin Toronto Reviews
Food is Excellent, Excellent Service
This is a wonderful restaurant, A small space but the food and service are excellent. The menu items ordered were extremely tasty and the wait staff were great.
Great food good service really easy to find a table.
Very accommodating for kids and steaks were cooked exceptionally well. A lot of people ordered the steaks, but their wine selection is very spot on as well.

Le Baratin is a cute French Bistroit in Toronto where everything is cooked fresh! I loved that the service was prompt and remembered the little things that make dining out a great experience. The restaurant is a cozy style bistro with limited seating, so I recommend making reservations. I also really enjoy that the menu is fixed price, based on whether you want 2 or 3 courses. It makes it really easy for planning and budgeting and allows you to pick anything you want on the menu. My absolute favorite was their poached pear dessert. I would go back just for another indulgence.
Meh
The restaurant is quaint and has nice ambience, I will say that for it. The server was pleasant, professional and gave good advice. I had actually gone for a specific dish and he even told me that I would be disappointed and that they had better options. I should have listened. From appetizers to main to desert, the food was underwhelming. The least expensive bottle was 70 dollars, a red, which cam out of a fridge so the taste was not up to par. It was just o.k. Nothing special at all. Luckily, I actually went for great French food the day after!

Delicious leek and salmon en croute with buerre blanc, great duck confit. Decent cocktail too and the service was prompt and polite but not overbearing. Perfect!
It is a very small but cozy restaurant with only a few
It is a very small but cozy restaurant with only a few tables. The wine prices were fairly reasonable and the one we ordered was quite good. The service was very good and friendly but due to the limited kitchen staff who cooked everything to order, the food dishes came out very slow. There was a lot of time in between the appetizers and main courses. For the appetizers, we had the escargots with puff pastry, the charcuterie board, the gravlax and the pate. The escargots were good. The gravlax was good and the whipped cream cheese was a nice touch. The charcuterie board was really good and had a good combination. The pate was the same as what was provided on the charcuterie board. For the mains we had the lamb, the fish special, and the duck breast. They were decent overall but nothing extraordinary. For dessert, we had the poached pear, the apple pudding with caramel sauce and the crème brûlée with pistachios. The desserts were delicious. Overall a good evening.
Stumbled upon Le Baratin when we were looking for a brunch
Stumbled upon Le Baratin when we were looking for a brunch spot, and are so happy we did. This French restaurant's brunch menu looked simple, but offered a variety to choose from. We got the duck confit eggs benny and french toast, both were delicious and the perfect portion. They also had daily specials that sounded amazing but we needed to try the basics first. The service here was also fantastic. All in all, this was a great brunch spot and I look forward to coming back and trying their other dishes!
Amazing! We went there for our 1 year anniversary trip in
Amazing! We went there for our 1 year anniversary trip in Toronto, we were looking for fine dining without feeling overwhelmed with being too high class. This is a very quaint restaurant that is charming but also makes you feel classy. The ambiance was just right for a romantic dinner. We booked it a few weeks in advance and they welcomed us no problem when we got there. The duck was exquisite, and my partner's pickerel was a very good portion and the flavours meshed very well. Our appetizer beforehand was a creamy cod dish that we are still drooling over today. We went for the dessert on special that day and were not disappointed! Service was great, I would definitely go again.
We visited Le Baratin for dinner to celebrate my partner's
We visited Le Baratin for dinner to celebrate my partner's birthday. I had read a number of reviews for the restaurant but wasn't sure if it will be a good place for a celebratory dinner but boy was I surprised. We entered at around 6.30PM on a Sunday evening and it was jam packed (thank god for the reservation). It is an extremely small, cute next doorsy cafe with a very vibrant and classy vibe. It has a great selection of food at really great prices. We decided to take the 2 course dinner at just 49$ pp which includes an appetizer and an entree and also has a good selection of wine and other cocktails. We ordered the Gravlax (cured salmon) and Assiette de Charcuterie (duck with pork pate) for the appetizers and the Magret de Canard (duck with port wine sauce) as well as the Roasted Lamb Shank with potato mash for the entrees. The appetizers were simply amazing, the right flavoring and portioned in a way that was filling and yet left you wanting more. A special mention for the pork pate which was soo good I just couldn't get enough, it was super light with a burst of flavor. I have to admit, I ordered the Lamb Shank because I had read great reviews about it but while it was roasted super well and the meat was super tender and well done, the flavor just did not permeate all the way into the meat but was balanced out with the potato mash and tomato jus. It could do better with some more flavor ingrained in the meat. Also since I like my meat to be extra well done, for me the duck needed to be done a bit more but it was fairly good and the port wine sauce complemented it pretty well. Our server Clemont was amazing. He explained what all our dishes would entail really well to us, catered to our every need and made sure we have a great time. All in all, a great place with great food and service at amazing prizes for a fun classy experience of French cuisine.
really enjoyed les farçous.
Fresh ingredients and great service. The ambience was nice.
Great brunch spot on Dundas West.
I usually get the pancakes and a coffee. Never disappoints.
Had the steak frites and was disappointed with the steak.
A bit overdone. It was during covid so I'm willing to give it another shot!
Terrible food, ambiance and hostile service
I went with three friends to celebrate a birthday. We were seated beside a big table of very loud women, so I asked if we could move to another empty table. It was a huge deal for them and I had to talk them into it. No idea why given that we were moving to a table of four from a table of four. It was so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves talk. Begrudgingly they agreed and we moved. The menu is extremely limited and I didn’t find anything I really wanted to eat but chose the beet salad and the steak. The salad was good but the meat was terrible. About half of it was gristle. It wasn’t possible to tell by looking at it and I would put a piece in my mouth and was unable to chew it. So I had to spit the pieces into the cloth napkin surreptitiously. I was gagging and I felt like I was in that Seinfeld episode where Jerry is spitting mutton into a cloth napkin and then puts it into his coat pocket. Elaine wears his coat home and gets chased by dogs. I didn’t want to complain about the meat given that we were trying to celebrate and have fun and I had already created waves re the table and noise.. Plus I wasn’t sure if the chef was avenging my complaint. Then came the problem of what to do with the meat filled napkin. I took it downstairs to the washroom and there was no basket to put it in so I had to throw it out. I’m not sure why but right after we finished eating, we were told we had to leave despite being in the middle of things. Two of us split the bill which was about $300 due to the cost of wine added on top of the overpriced food. On my half, I tipped $60, which was way more than they deserved but I kept my word that I would make it worth their while to move us. But I suppose it was not enough because there was no thank you and they didn’t even say goodbye when we left. This was my second time at the restaurant— the previous time was several years ago— and I wouldn’t have returned if it hadn’t been chosen by someone else. I will not go again.
JUST WAOW
excellent gastronomic cuisine, very nice servers, great cuisine for not so expensive price 60 $ 3 courses and just a big waow - will go again for sure !
Fantastic French Food!
We went to La Baratin for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious! The best service, great atmosphere and the food was so delicious. As a vegetarian it was great to have such tasty options, and my boyfriend loved the Steak Frites as well. Yummy cocktails too! Definitely recommended.
Go visit!
This felt just like a typical Parisian restaurant right down to the excellent and reasonably priced wines. We got the popular dishes, Gravlax, Rillettes De Canard, steak frites and mousse au Chocolat, and they were all great. Fantastic meal and highly recommended
French Bistro?
Booked a late meal for 4. Small resto, quite crowded, with little decor and arborite table tops. We chose different items, some specials, from the fixed menu: appetizers of Calamari and a Salad, the former rubbery and the latter doused with vinegar, Trout that was nicely cooked, Vol-Au-Vent de champignons that was very salty, Steak-Frites that was a bit tough and caramelized onions too salty, Beef Bourguignon that was good. Dessert of Mousse au Chocolat and Orange Crème Brulée were ok. Asked for some bread and was brought a few thickly sliced, slightly toasted whole grain slices (no baguette hère). Wine was an adequate Rosé. Summary: an over priced, crowded resto that served an inconsistent, mixed quality of dishes and to call it a French Bistro would be a strech.
