Many people think that if you don't have a reservation, you can't get in, but it isn't dorsea. Many people think that if you don't have a reservation, it's not the same, it's not the Michelin experience. Many people are wrong. I think the Michelin experience was even more micheliny at the bar. Lindsey (sp?) was our bartender and we had the most fantastic time. Full menu is available. She took care of us and was entertaining, inviting and a hell of a hostess and bartender. We're dropping in the bar everytime we come to NY. Food was a 10. Drinks were a 10. Service was a 20

After eating there, and having a lovely evening, I can cheer you it's worth every penny.

Still our go to place when we're in New York especially for my daughter's birthday. This has been her favorite birthday dinner request since she was 10 and now she's 20! Great service, good food, and a place definitely to dress up. A good place for special occasions or to close a good business deal ... or just to impress your wife or little princess
Be the first to ReplyWent last night and this place does not disappoint.
Every single dish was absolutely to die for! We did the chef's tasting with the wine pairing. Each dish was better than the next and the wine pairing was spot on with each glass complimenting each dish. The sea bass and sole were two of my favorite seafood dishes. I will say the menu is very seafood forward, so if you are not a big seafood person this may not be the restaurant for you. However it's well worth the experience. My one negative (if you can really call it a true negative) was the wine pairing with the desserts. After all the delicious wines we had with each course, the desert wines kind of fell flat. They weren't bad but they didn't wow the way the other wine pairings wowed. It was the only slight disappointment as it felt like they kind of gave the dessert wines an after thought or treated it as not as important. Would this make me not want to go again or not have the experience again? No. Everything was phenomenal and I would do it again in a heart beat. I just wish the dessert wines wouldn't have been the last memory of the meal.

Thank you for your generosity of time and hospitality.
Be the first to ReplyIts 3 star Michelin star status attracted me and my mom
Its 3 star Michelin star status attracted me and my mom into making a stop here. The reservation process wasn't too bad, which is a nice change from the blood baths some of the other reservation processes are for some other restaurants (Atomix and don Angie I'm looking at you). We came in with little to no expectations, since we usually like to just come in with a blank slate and see what the restaurant has to offer. Tucked into a smaller street by Times Square, Le Bernardin is a restaurant that radiates elegance. The decor is nice and simple, with a darker, moodier lighting that highlights the dishes presented to you. Something that my mom and I were surprised about were the number of sommeliers this restaurant had. We counted 4 for the night, and were lucky to be served by the female sommelier who was great and picked out a fantastic riesling for us to share. For those that don't know, this restaurant specializes in seafood. You have the option of ordering the tasting menu (but the whole table has to order it), or doing a la carte style. We did the tasting menu, and it was great! My favorites were the tuna-urchin toast, which was super delectable and had a nice crunch, along with the salmon-caviar, which was baked on the bottom half but raw on the top half, giving it a super cool texture! The food in general was solid, but those two dishes really stuck with me. As for the service, the sommelier was great, but our main waiter was a little standoffish. I know French people have a stereotype for being a little curt, but this was the first time I felt a bit uncomfortable with the service given. He would explain dishes well, but would always be looking elsewhere, and kind of just ignored you for the rest of it. The other staff were great though, so maybe he was just having a bad day. Either way, my mom and I overall enjoyed the experience! We celebrated her birthday there, and they gave us a delicious chocolate cake to share! It's definitely a place to try at least once on your bucket list.

Me and my family came for the prefix lunch menu to celebrate my brother Timmy. This kind of dining is only for extremely special occasions for my family. When we arrived, they immediately asked us if we wanted to take our coat. Like I said, this kind of dining is rare for me, so I didn't know if it was mandatory or not to give the jacket. It's not, I kept my jacket on. We were sat promptly at a nicely sized table. I hate dining on a small table. It was nice to have so much space for different plates and not feeling like I was seated too close to anyone. If you have a purse, they will give you a little stand for your purse. It's awesome! Before we even looked at the menu, they served us the most adorable mini bread slices with a salmon spread. They told us it was to eat while we look at the menu. It was really good and the fish tasted very fresh. After some snacking. We got the menus. I ordered the tuna because I have always wanted to try foie gras and the salmon entree. After we ordered, the offered us a tray of different breads. I got the focaccia and something that looked like a bread roll and a croissant mixed together. They also gave us a really cute butter bowl. It kind of looked like chap stick that you apply with your finger. I really love bread and butter and thoroughly enjoyed this part. The tuna was so fresh. It was a thinly sliced piece of tuna and center had a cracker and the foie gras. I really liked how I could enjoy the tuna on its own and with the foie gras. At this point I decided to put this place to a test. This place seemed a little too choreographed. I chugged my water and timed how long it would take to refill my water. It took two minutes and 55 seconds. In my opinion, for such a nice restaurant, my water should've been filled quicker. I've eaten at decently fancy restaurants where something like that wouldn't happen. For a place where they fold your napkin every time you get up and push in your chair when you sit down, I expect them to be paying attention more carefully. I also ordered the salmon for my main dish. The presentation was beautiful. I appreciate presentation and really enjoyed the way it was served. After setting down the plate in front of me, they poured a thin truffle sauce around the salmon. The salmon was extremely good. There was some sort of vegetable, maybe green onion or leek, under the salmon. It matched the salmon and truffle together so well. We also order the truffle pasta for the table. It was an extra 80$ for the pasta. If this was a regular Tuesday, I'd say save your money. This isn't an original experience, you can get this anywhere. But if you're celebrating, you should go for it. It was a nice extra dish to look forward to. Finally, for dessert I got the citrus mandeleine. I love lemony desserts. This was an extremely refreshing dessert. Its flavors included grapefruit, lemon, lime, and a little bit of mint. The mandeleine had a thin, solid coating and inside was a lemony custard. That was my favorite part. Aesthetically, it's not the prettiest dessert they offered. But, it's still beautiful and I loved it. I thought this was the end of the meal but they gave us another small dessert plate. I was really full at this point despite the small portions. They served three little finger desserts. I really liked getting something I wasn't expecting. A surprise like that at the end was a very nice touch. Overall, if this is a really special dining experience for you, I think you should take the jump and try it out. You'll probably feel guilty for spending so much money, but the experience on top of the food makes it more worth it. Timmy, if you see this, I love you

Be the first to ReplyOur visit to the first three Michelin-starred restaurant
Our visit to the first three Michelin-starred restaurant was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were treated to a culinary journey like no other. The food was not just a meal but a work of art, both in taste and presentation. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef's skill and creativity. It's easy to see why this restaurant has maintained its three Michelin stars for so many years. The service was impeccable, with our server being exceptionally humble and attentive. They guided us through the menu with expertise, enhancing our overall dining experience. While it was the most expensive restaurant we've ever dined at, the quality of the food, service, and ambiance justified the cost. This is truly a place for special occasions, where every detail is carefully crafted to create an extraordinary dining experience.

La Bernardin truly exceeded our expectations! My husband and I chose this esteemed establishment to commemorate our anniversary, and we were thoroughly impressed by the impeccable service, delectable cuisine, and captivating ambiance. The culinary experience was nothing short of extraordinary, with each dish crafted to perfection and complemented flawlessly by expertly selected wine pairings. It was a celebration that surpassed the hype, leaving us with lasting memories of a truly exceptional dining experience.

Service is impeccable and silently omnipresent. The minute you walk in the floral arrangements announce you have entered a very generous house; the lighting, paintings and the wall installation that mimic waves transport you to a effervescent shore that invites to a memorable meal.

There are many reasons why this Michelin 3 stars have been awarded year after year.We were able to secure only an earlier-than-usual reservation of 545 PM on a Saturday night. What has changed fro a visit maybe 5 years ago is that suit/tie is no longer required or expected. The crowd was "business casual" - most gents with sport coats. It was a delightful and memorable evening. Not rushed. Superb service. As the entire table must order the 7-course with optional tasting or the 4-course prix fixe, we opted for the 4 course as all could make their own selection for each course (the 7-course is fixed).Round of cocktails ($20 - $25 each) and a nice 3-part Amuse-bouche was followed by "almost raw" choices of oysters, oysters-uni, scallops, and tuna. This was the first of many discussions throughout the meal on "what was the best dish"? Note there were no bad dishes."Barely touched" choices were lobsters, scallops w/ caviar, and shellfish medley.Main course ("lightly cooked") choices were the signature Dover sole, salmons, and hiramasa - all superb.Desserts were pistachio, coffee-toffees, and the cheese assortment . The latter was the only poor selection of the night as at $44 was too steep.Overall - a clear winner.Damages for 4 with tip was $1850.Food 5/5Service 5/5Value 5/5Cleanliness 5/5Noise 5/5 (lack of noise!)Decor 5/5
Be the first to ReplySo sad, so very sad.
I did all the research on this restaurant, read through the Wikipedia page, studied the executive chef's bio, along with the other staff, and even read Edwin H's review. Edwin visited for his wife's 85th birthday and he had some extremely valid observations, please go find his review. We took the tasting menu where each dish was paired with wine. The wines were nothing particular and very monotone. BORING. This restaurant is supposed to have a top sommelier, but I could have blindly picked a handful of wines and done a better, more exciting pairing. It's clear that somebody is bribing the Michelin guide reviewer which is why they haven't lost a star. To obtain 3 Michelin stars should be reserved for the very best, most elite, welcoming, divine restaurants in the world. I've eaten at non-starred restaurants with better hospitality and quality. We were absolutely robbed at this restaurant. Before you think to yourself, "this is the reviewer's first Michelin experience", don't worry, I've been to 12 Michelin star restaurants and this is my third 3 star experience. I'm basing this entire review off what a Michelin experience should be; and, frankly, these comments stand for non-starred restaurants as well. This staff needs to get back to the basics and ask themselves if food is really their passion or just a way to pay the bills. Ok, end tangent and back to the review...All of the fish dishes were about 500% too salty, the bread was a limited selection (compared to other Michelin starred restaurants), and the dishes were forgettable. The one dish I particularly enjoyed was the tuna with a hint of wasabi in the sauce - this was actually quite nice. The only silver lining of this meal were the sauces that accompanied each course.Oh, I almost forgot this part, and this is an *extremely* unprofessional quality. I went to the restroom and when I returned I was told that the wine had already been described. The server described the wine to only one guest and didn't wait for me to return, which was 3 minutes later. When I asked for a re-explanation I was literally scoffed at, and the explanation was essentially "here's a wine, it pairs well with your food." Disgusting. I honestly can't believe this. There was no welcoming feeling at this restaurant. None at all. You'd think after spending $1,200 for 2 people the staff would at least *pretend* to like you, but they make you feel like intruders during the entire dinner and then kick you out as quickly as possible. The entire tasing experience from walking in through walking out the door was 90 minutes. For a full drink, dinner, dessert experience it should not be this quick; everything was rushed.I've actually lost some faith in the Michelin guide. It used to stand for something. If this restaurant can be awarded 3 stars, where does the chaos stop? If you're looking for a true 3 star experience, go visit Da Vittorio. If you want an experience where you feel like an intruder, are served over-salted, overcooked fish, monotone wines, and have $1,000+ to blow on 2 people, please visit this restaurant. If you are looking for a fine dining experience in NYC you have many, many other options. ***********I hope I can steer at least 1 person/couple away from this place; please spend your hard earned money where the staff treat you well and the experience is enjoyable.***********2 stars were given because the sauces were quite nice, but the desserts were flawless. Absolutely stunning. But overall...What a shame.

Had a really great and delicious time! Came here for a late lunch and got the prix fix meal, opened with a poached and smoked salmon spread on little toasties-- very yummy. Then I got the caviar-scallop, generous portion of caviar atop a generous bed of diced raw scallops. It was like a very tasty symphony in my mouth, a really nice combo of textures and buttery indulgence. For the cooked portion I chose the dover sole filet because I wanted a buttery fish. It was nicely prepared and garnished with olives, black trumpet mushrooms, and almonds. It was really good -- but I was so full at this point from the caviar-scallop, salmon and toasties, and bread basket that I could finish it. But I had room for dessert!! (Always) I got the chocolate tart, it had some high points -- the melty center had an atypical flavor profile for chocolate, and the ice cream complimented it well. The rest of it was OK and the fancy decorations were more wafer, not chocolate. The design of the place is very elegant, and it's one of the better lit fine dining places I've been to. As expected of a restaurant this caliber, the staff were extremely attentive and kind. They have a coat check which was nice.My husband made the reservation about a couple of days in advance or so-- he had a very different experience; he wasn't satisfied with his meal (lobster, monk fish) but thought the sorbet he got was good! I tried his meal, I thought the lobster was about as good as lobster usually is, the monkfish was admittedly super salty, and his sorbet selection was really yummy and a good palette cleanser!!

Be the first to ReplyBeen here 4 times now, pre-covid and once since covid, and
Been here 4 times now, pre-covid and once since covid, and an additional 3 times for corporate related events. The experience seems to be deteriorating. Very elitist and classist, which is unnecessary. Obviously guests eating here are in a certain socioeconomic bracket OR saved up to enjoy the dining experience-- either way deserving of an impeccable dining experience, which is not the case. The staff are either dead inside or just required to have sticks shoved in their rears-- neither friendly, nor pleasant. It doesn't matter if you're celebrating an anniversary or birthday--the restaurant will make no fuss for your occasion. The vegetarian tasting menu and the flesh menu make little sense. Too greedy to commit one way, but exploiting the crap out of diners. Yes, the food is good, but this is NYC with many restaurants serving excellent food. The food here is not exceptional and for these prices and reputation, being exceptional is NOT optional. It's like Le Bernardin is not even trying any more. The dining experience seems to be more about guests feeling privileged to be able to eat at Le Bernardin, rather than the restaurant feeling honored to have guests in the first place. Not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyIt's been a while since I came back.
Each time is better and better! Food services wine cocktails.. you name it! Live the fancy atmosphere over there ! Coming back soon again ;)
Be the first to ReplyI took my husband here for his 30th birthday several months
I took my husband here for his 30th birthday several months ago. When we came in, we felt a little out of place. It is fancy on fancy. Nevertheless, the staff was pleasant and welcoming. And we lucked out getting a table in the back on the corner, that had a great view of the rest of the restaurant. We did the tasting menu, and got 8 courses. And I promise you, if you eat the food, you will not go home hungry. We had previously only been to one or two star Michelin star restaurants so we had high expectations for our first 3 star experience. Looking back we now think 3 stars might be mostly for ambuance and wine pairings since the food did not overshadow most of our 1 star prior experiences. The pounded thin tuna, was a great start. The caviar served on a "Potato cloud" was other worldly. And then came the langoustine and lobster courses, which my husband and I were split on. Him loving shell food, while I thought it didn't live up to the billing. This was followed by the dover sole, their most famous dish, which we were again split on but the other way. This was not a dish that would make you love cooked fish if you don't love cooked fish. But as someone who loves cooked fish, I thought it was great. Then another fish course, and at this point, we're both getting full and it does seem like they are retreading flavours quite a bit. Then last we got 2 desserts. And we both agreed that they were both overly sweet, too much, and not very delicious. Not at all living up to the three Michelin star expectations.Overall, it was a nice experience. The highest of class, but the food fell short. There were some highlights, but the second half of the menu was a slog, and for the pricing it wasn't remotely worth the value. I did not feel great about spending 900 on this meal and I have felt ok with spending that for a few other dining experiences.

Ah Le Bernardin, arguably one of the best restaurants - in the WORLD! This three Michelin star establishment did NOT disappoint. Le Bernardin by far has the best service of any restaurant I've ever been to. The food and drinks were equally incredible. People say this is a spot for special occasions but I went on a Wednesday and had just as much fun. I spent the same here that I did at Nobu so really not that expensive considering th experience. DO THE CHEFS TASTING MENU & GET EXTRA CAVIAR. As soon as I sat down, they provided a separate, smaller chair specifically for my purse. This was very appreciated. We started with the welcome dish that was lobster, a crunch, and a soup shot. This was delectable. This was followed by ounces and ounces of Golden Imperial caviar, the best on the menu. The sides provided with the Caviar we're so delicious we ordered another round of It all. The next dish was layers of thinly pounded yellowfin tuna, foie gras, over a toasted baguette, chives, and extra virgin olive oil - Devine. We felt that it needed black truffle so they came out and shaved some fresh on top. We were right - it was delicious. These dishes were followed by two lobster dishes. Incredible. Every time we had a new course, they swapped out our silverware and plates. The drinks were incredible and they even made one just for me according to my pallet. They need to put this on the menu because I promise you it's the best damn tequila drink you'll ever have. TLDR: trust the chef and Bartneder and enjoy the 4 hour long experience that will be the best service and quality food you might ever have.
Be the first to ReplyI took my husband here to celebrate his birthday.
We've been to Le Bernardin many times over the years it's been open and we have always been amazed by the food and the service. Not this time. For starters, 10 minutes after being seated for our 6PM reservation, we were told we needed to be out by 8:00 PM! What?! We hadn't even had a first bite yet and they were already kicking us out! Not the kind of warm welcome back we were expecting. I had just returned from 3 weeks in Italy where, no matter the type of restaurant (fancy or super casual), they won't bring you the check until you ask for it because they don't want you to feel like you are being kicked out. Le Bernardin could learn something from our Italian friends! After that, the service was very rushed. The sommeliers walk around like robots. I love talking about the wines and the producers (I'm a wine writer) and ours didn't have anything much to say or maybe he was also trying to move us along as quickly as possible. On the plus side, our waiter was very friendly and the fish here is always of impeccable quality. We enjoyed the food but not every dish was a 'taste sensation' (as my husband and I call the dishes that blow your socks off) as they should all be in such a highly awarded and expensive restaurant. A couple of the dishes were good, but not exceptional. The presentations are not as creative as in many other Michelin-starred restaurants either. Two nights before dining here, I was still in Italy and we crossed the border to dine in Slovenia at Hiša Franko, also Michelin-starred, and it was 100 times better: more interesting presentations, many taste sensations and an extremely welcoming experience. The kind of meal you think about and tell people about for months later. Unfortunately, with so many great restaurants in NYC, many of them offering the freshest of fish, I don't think I'll be dining at Le Bernardin anytime again soon.
Be the first to ReplyMy 12PM lunch on a Monday was excellent, terrific,
My 12PM lunch on a Monday was excellent, terrific, superlative, what else can I say? Service: Post-pandemic we are almost inured to the sense that service quality everywhere we go will be worse off than it was before, but that was thankfully not the case here. The staff at LB was friendly, prompt, informative, and gracious from soup to nuts. When I said to my server "that's okay, you don't need to keep changing my silverware" he explained that it was de rigeur, part of the service. Different dishes require different utensils. He showed me how the spoon for the Dover sole dish was flatter than that used for the langoustine or lobster dishes which needed a curvier spoon for the broth. And how a fish knife is different than a regular one. Educational. 10/10.Atmosphere/ambiance: LB is on 51st between 6th and 7th, near the offices of a few financial services firms. I really like the restaurant's space (high ceilings, tables not on top of each other), tasteful decor, not too loud atmosphere, and nice bathrooms (well-lit, faucet appropriately aerated with decent force, incense, and good disposable towelettes that have the Le Bernardin logo on them). It can be a little intimidating because most people dining there look very wealthy and powerful, but don't sweat it; we are all there to eat a great meal and relax a bit before resuming the daily battles of our lives. 10/10.Food: I got the $295 chefs tasting menu for lunch. It was worth it. All of the dishes were well thought out and delicious. Really great ingredients. That first dish of pounded hamachi (like one would do for a chicken Milanese) on top of foie gras was excellent. I'll remember that one for a while. As was the diver scallop with osetra caviar. Lobster was perfectly poached and went really well with the miso broth. 10/10.Post-lunch cocktail: Southern Summer, made with Zacapa 23 Solera Rum, Pêche de Vigne, cherry, lime, mint. This sounded better on paper than it tasted. Too bitter and sour for me. Strong, though. 6/10. When my server saw that I didn't drink much of it he asked if he could replace it but I said no, I had to get back.Overall, a worthwhile experience. I've eaten at Daniel and Alinea and this was every bit as enjoyable, maybe more even.
