Great potential. Mixed review. We had to leave early due to so many bug bites that turned into welts. Staff was very gracious in handling our early departure. Other than that - MEH. The hotel isn't as organized and on point as we would have expected - I would term it "almost right". For these prices, I would expect everything to be exactly right and were disappointed. Before we even got there: We got in the car from airport, and driver said "you can wear a mask if you want", and then didn't wear mask himself. Employees are required to mask up while under roof. I would think being in a car would qualify. We got to the island, and had pre booked activities, but no one listed them out for us. So we wouldn't have known what was happening on which day if we hadn't brought our own itinerary. Booking was a bit disorganized, and should have been a red flag of what was to come. Staff was very friendly, maybe too casual. At a 5 star hotel I don't expect to be greeted with "how are you guys doing?" or to have to step aside for them on the small paths when passing. One day we went to go on a boat trip. No one told us where to check in, so we waited on the pier, and eventually we went looking for someone and found our guide back at the concierge desk who in turn said he had been waiting there for us for more than 20 minutes.Food was good and interesting, but not Michelin star level. Meal plan was too much food, not worth doing.Hotel staff could use some training on how to up their game to 5 star level. Communication of information could be improved both before and during the vacation.Even when we were leaving, had to check the bill and found over $300 in extra charges that had to be reversed.Spa was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely.
