Lord Stanley San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
turntable residency of pecking house was a bit
turntable residency of pecking house was a bit underwhelming, but affordably priced. we tried everything on the menu with the exception of the sando and po'boy - the highlight of our meal was the gem salad, fresh and crisp. the chili fried chicken was mild, not spicy - so great for those with lower spice tolerance. we wished there was a scaling spice level as it was more sweet than spicy for our group's liking. everything came out super fast and relatively easy to make resy (one week in advance).

I came with a group of friends to try July's turntable, Pecking House. It is available until July 27th. We split some orders of the Pecking House Classic Sando, Chili Fried Chicken and Chive Cheddar Biscuits. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend coming before Pecking House leaves! Pecking House Classic Sando: This was amazing. Easily one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I have had. The chicken itself is super flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the special sauce they use. The soy pickles add an interesting touch as well. Would absolutely order again. Chili Fried Chicken: Very flavorful and a lot of food. Not overly spicy, but the seasoning has a bit of a mouth numbing effect which was interesting. Overall, I think it is a good dish, but personally I wouldn't order it over the sandwich. Biscuits: Was a bit underwhelmed by these. While they were good, I just didn't think they were anything special. I would not order them again. The inside of the restaurant is fairly small, but offers a nice intimate feel. The servers could have been a bit more attentive with things like filling drinks, but when they came around they were very friendly and engaging. They also proactively cut the sandwiches that were going to be shared which was a nice touch.

My fiancé and I are visiting this city for few days and this restaurant is down the street from my hotel that I'm staying at. We decided to go on a date to this place because it seemed really cool, but I was really disappointed when they included 20% tip to the check and also 5% some kind of fee on top of that. Our waitress was named Anya and she should have warned us. This is one thing I can't stand because every costumer should tip as much as he wants, because we all have different experience with the service and food. When I brought this up to the manager, he was really rude and just told me " in 3 days this will be a law in California " please stay away from this place as far as you can. By the way, food is terrible here. It looks good but taste like crap
Very overdue for a Lord Stanley review! I don't think they
Very overdue for a Lord Stanley review! I don't think they get enough love. Lord Stanley is a neighborhood gem. We've loved them since they started doing takeout during the pandemic (still miss that fish + chips!). It can be hard to keep track since they have had a number of iterations. Their current iteration is a French bistro with heavy Korean influences for dine-in, a casual menu for takeaway, and the occasion rotation of visiting chefs (Pecking House is coming back!). I wanted to shout out their current plats du jour selection which makes it a lot more casual and approachable for a weekday dinner. We had a lovely cioppino and it came with your choice of red, white, beer, or NA drink. Might be the best kept secret in SF right now. We also love their takeaway menu for the lazy nights. Their Korean fried chicken sandwich is outrageous. Can't believe no one has mentioned yet!
One of the best in town.
Consistently soooo good. I usually use door dash. Give these guys a try!

We came to Lord Stanley for a prix fixe menu for a friend's birthday celebration. I loved that we got the upper level to ourselves with a nice cozy vibe (though it did get quite warm on the top floor). This menu came with 3 courses with some appetizers and sides to share for the table. For my 3 courses I got the beef tartare, pork chop, and panna cotta. The food was good overall, though I would not say amazing. I did really enjoy the pork chop however, but felt the other courses were not amazing. We also felt the sizes for the appetizers and sides were on the smaller side for a group to share. It was also on the pricier side. Overall service was good, and they were attentive to refilling our waters and wines.
We did the chef menu.
The food was delicious and definitely can tell they put a lot of effort in it but everything was cold, even the main dish was lukewarm. Even my bf who eats cold stuff all the time felt that he wanted to eat something warm. The service is really good. The restaurant was half full. So it's quiet for chat. As other comments mentioned, the service was a bit slow. Overall, I'm not sure if it's worth hundreds dollars
I've been debating for over a month to write a review.
I find it very difficult to rate anything less than 4 stars because I understand how difficult it is to own and manage a restaurant in the City. It's competitive and challenging. It was four for dinner. We sat upstairs and were so pleased with the privacy and intimacy. Three of us ordered the prix fixe menu with the wine pairing ($240). When I saw the tasting menu, I didn't think it was all that French (I know they don't serve sashimi in Paris). So, I made my own menu (pate, escargot, French onion soup, steak tartare, black cod and Paris-Brest for dessert). Let me put it this way... the other 3 kept picking at my dishes and saying "I wish I ordered what you ordered." Aside from the cured halibut on the prix fixe menu, I saw salsify with pickled black trompette mushrooms & warm sourdough bread sauce. Ahhhh, that didn't sound like it was worth $175 ($240 with wine). Hence, the reason why I made my own tasting menu. If anything, we would return for the pate and French onion soup. We would return for strictly ala carte.
We had dinner here last night for the first time.
It began with the starters. The Gilda was delicious with white anchovy and olive. Then the smoked mussels and tartare. We have had good tartare before, never with hazelnuts. This was a nice twist with a delicate crunch. Main course, the table had the pork chop, halibut and hen. All were done very well. The beer list was great! They had beers from France, Quebec and a local variety. Finished the night with some very airy and fluffy beignets. They were amazing. I need to finish will how professional and great the staff was. Top notch! Excited to visit this place again to experience another wonderful meal.
My wife got the tasting menu; I ordered a la carte.
I'll start with the good: the pork chop that I had was quite good. A little fatty, but tender, flavorful, and generously-sized. The other items I ordered -- leeks and chicory salad -- were solid, but not noteworthy. So why the 2-star review? The tasting menu was, I hate to say it, dreadful. First, the flavors. Just not particularly good; the cold crab noodles in broth were a huge disappointment, the salmon was bland, and the asparagus was uninteresting. The beef cheek and the caviar were each pretty good, but not enough to make up for the other shortcomings. Second, the portions. For $130, you expect to leave the restaurant full or, at the very least, close to it. The portion sizes in this tasting menu were laughable. One bite here, one bite there. This might have been the meal's biggest issue, but listing second because I try to focus on taste. Finally, the wait times. At least 15 min between each small course; I'm sure this is intentional, but coupled with the portion size, is a little brutal. You end up sitting for long periods of time and building up a pretty intense appetite, without the occasional satiating reprieves to you'd expect from a coursed meal. Also, I don't normally complain about service, but after seating us it took them over 15 minutes to even swing by the table (and the place wasn't particularly crowded). Another 15 or so to bring our drinks. Will check out Turntable and hope for a better experience!
Such a good dining experience! I came here for a friends
Such a good dining experience! I came here for a friends birthday. We had a reservation for 8 and were seated at a long table upstairs. As we were waiting for everyone in our party to come, the sommelier came up and asked us which wines we were interested in trying for the night. Because we were indecisive, he gave us 3 samples to try! Dinner was also very delicious. I won't describe every dish in detail, but my favorite for the night was definitely the mashed potatoes with apple in it. SO DELICIOUS. It inspired me to try making a replica at home even though it wasn't even remotely as close to the dish at Lord Stanley. Overall the experience was great. Food was extremely good, and I'll definitely come back again someday.
My son and I went here for the Sunday supper.
It was.....phenomenal (which doesn't begin to cover it). Snacks, starters, mains and dessert and we had the chance to add supplemental dishes of caviar and pasta which we chose to do. Service was fast and friendly and you could tell the servers were foodies who were proud to showcase the evenings' offerings. The courses were well paced. We are stuffed and oh so happy! Great ambiance (cozy and candlelit). We're cancelling our reservations at another restaurant so we can go back to Lord Stanley before our vacay ends.
The food was amazing.
We went during Sunday Supper, and we did a four course tasting menu for $75. You can add wine pairing and total would be $115. The starter I had a tempura mushroom. The starter I forget but remember it was tasty. My main was a lamb shoulder and that was delicious! And my dessert was a caramel flan. It was a little loud because there was a private event upstairs. But it was fine. Staff was friendly, and we would come back here for their A La Carte.

I had the vegetarian prix fixe menu - which firstly, so glad they had a vegetarian option! the food itself was good but not incredible, very mushroom heavy and creamy so could just be a personal preference. But overall I feel like for the price point it wasn't as delicious as I would have expected it to be. The service was excellent though, and loved the cocktails!!
There were 4 of us for a Friday night birthday celebration.
In summary, 3 chose the tasting menu option (with 2 opting for wine tasting option) and the 4th person ordered a-la-carte. We were seated upstairs and the service was impeccable. Although the tasting menu was a "gotta try this once" opportunity, we all agreed that our next visit will focus on the a-la-carte option. We were prepared for the final bill, but reality sets in when fine dining expenses need to be weighed against better financial alternatives.
Food was decent - mashed potatoes were so creamy and unique.
I enjoyed the sea bass, its crispy skin, and the soup that flavored the fish. Escargot was delicious but wish it was a bit softer/tender. The short rib was tender but I wish the flavors were a bit more marinating. Service was great and was very intentional. Great restaurant for a date night.

Run don't walk to get the Fillet o Fish sandwich from their To Go window. Really really good.
We came for my boyfriends birthday and were super excited
We came for my boyfriends birthday and were super excited to try the tasting menu. The service was EXCELLENT and everyone was so nice and accommodating. The portions were so so so so small.... like very small. I know when you get a tasting menu it is normally small but we left hungry. The pace is pretty consistent but slow so make sure to carve out 2+ hours. The food itself was tasty but for the price point I was expecting much more. The wagyu was pretty tough and didn't have that buttery characteristic it normally has. The caviar was very good but just wish there was more of it. For two people our bill was $650+ and for that price point leaving hungry was kind of disappointing.
Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food 5/5 What a fun restaurant
Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food 5/5 What a fun restaurant concept! This review is a bit dated because I sat for the Immi x Turntable collab, but still a great impression. I am a follower of Immi and the work that they have done so it was fun to see them in a different setting and can say that Immi's roots and messages were not compromised. Showcased beautifully and if anything the collab brought life to the stories even more!
Finally got to check out the Turntable concept at Lord
Finally got to check out the Turntable concept at Lord Stanley, where they feature fine dining chefs who each have their own unique concept and menu We got Chef Matkowsky's Korean French tasting menu and all the dishes were just...amazing. My partner and I agreed the cooking, plating and concept was Michelin-worthy. The execution of the dishes were top notch and the creativity behind adding an Asian flair to the French dishes was on point. But...alas the service of the meal was just so slow! Our table wasn't ready for us despite us having reservations so we stood around awkwardly for 15 minutes. Once seated, it took around 20-30 minutes for each course to come out and by the end, we had to ask them to please speed up our dishes as we were at 2 hours with only half of the menu done. Once we asked, they definitely got the ball rolling but I wish they had been more proactive about communicating the delays. 5 stars for food and price 3 stars for the lengthy wait between each dish 4 stars for service and ambiance - the servers were all super friendly and I could tell it wasn't their fault at all for the kitchen being so backed up. That being said I do wish there was a little more communication about the wait. We don't mind the delay but it'd be nice if the restaurant were proactive about letting us know the tasting menu would take around three hours despite only being six courses long.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
