Luigi Delicatessen Adelaide Reviews from The Last Year
Luigi's Delicatessen 👌
My friend and I have just got back to Sydney after an eight day trip to Adelaide. I had received recommendations from Trip Advisor which included Luigi's Delicatessen. We managed to get there on our last morning and had a delicious breakfast with extremely attentive service from a young wait staff member Abel who is a great asset to Luigi's. We look forward to visiting Luigi's on our next trip to Adelaide.
Highly recommend
Exceptional service! where else will you find this? Able (who had finished his shift) went out 2 ensure our taxi was available ! relaxed atmosphere & great food
AN INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE
An incredible adventure of food laughs and music. The never family and I celebrated my son's birthday and the evening exceeded our expectations. Incredible stuff, incredible food, Especially orecchiette with sausages and broccoli! Thank you for your hospitality and We will definitely be back very soon. - Laura M.
Dont forget to ask about prices before you place an order!
Luigi's seemed a good choice for dinner on our first night in Adelaide being down the road from our accommodation at The Adina Treasury. We booked for a Fri night 7.30pm sitting arriving promptly on time to be greeted by a young lady at the bar who became our waitress for the evening. Decor was a little dim for our taste and our table was off on one side of the bar and seemingly away from other patrons, the live music, and the kitchen which wasn't ideal...but the venue seemed popular, so we were just glad to have a table and not have fast food for dinner that night. Our waitress got us seated and went off to get us our drinks and tap water for the table. During this brief time we were welcomed by Luigi and his wife who both explained that there would be a minor interruption to normal proceedings as a marriage proposal would occur that evening. I had been looking about the table for a menu and it was explained to us that Luigi's operated without menu's and the dishes on offer would be explained to us by our waitress. We opted for an antipasto platter for entree plus quattro formaggi gnocchi and a steak for mains. The antipasto platter was beautiful and so very tasty. Ingredients were fresh and of high quality. Very happy starting point for our meal. Mains was a little hit n miss. We had specifically stated that we weren't sharing mains yet out came share plates for the mains and my beautiful steak had been sliced into strips on top of the dish's accompaniments...I nearly cried! Mustering courage I accepted the steak anyway and can admit that despite being butchered into strips for sharing, it was cooked as I'd requested and tasted lovely. My wife's gnocchi was delicious...so smooth, light, and velvety as good gnocchi should be. Bravo! A word of warning about the lack of menu's to the unwary diner however... It is ever so easy to get caught up in the wonderful descriptions of each dish as provided by your server that you forget to ask them about the prices. We found our bill of around $210 to be somewhat more than expected given 3 dishes, one round of drinks, and tap water for 2 people. Later examination of the receipt showed the steak was around $55 which is on par for what is charged at Adelaide restaurants for steak these days. The antipasto platter was roughly the same price but there was a good quantity of food, and I was impressed at the quality of the ingredients. But to be charged over $50 for gnocchi is EXPENSIVE. I understand that its handmade and it was really tasty, but there isn't anything remotely close to that dollar value in wages or ingredient cost on the plate even accounting for venue overheads and other related costs. And we were also charged for "still" water despite our request for simple tap water. If tap water wasn't an option that was available at the venue, this wasn't explained to us when we ordered drinks, we were just slugged for "still" water anyway. So despite a couple of issues, we did enjoy a lovely meal and the kitchen team at Luigi's should be congratulated for this. But the bill shock at the end left something of a sour taste to our overall experience and my rating unfortunately reflects this dropping from "Excellent" to just "Average".
Warm, welcoming atmosphere with food you’ll never forget
I chose to go to Luigi’s Delicatessen with my friends and family for my birthday celebration,on the recommendation of a work colleague. We were thrilled with the experience! From the pleasant and helpful phone call to make a booking, to the warm welcome on arrival by the owner, Luigi , the friendly attentive staff, the fantastic live music and the to-die-for food, our dining experience was truly memorable! We felt special as if we were in Luigi’s cosy and comfortable home. The staff greeted us enthusiastically and waited on us attentively throughout the evening, allowing us time to enjoy each course and never rushing us. We started with a magnificent antipasto platter which included various delicious cheeses, tasty cold meats, fresh olives, soft toasted bread and yummy crunchy wafer-like pieces of bread which complimented the texture and taste of the cheeses perfectly. Next, I had gnocchi with a mouthwatering tomato sauce. The gnocchi was melt-in-the-mouth! Delicate clouds of light potato and the sauce was brimming with sunshiny tomatoes and fresh pungent basil! The serves were generous and I took half of mine home and it tasted just as delicious the next day for lunch! We ate our meal to the beautiful uplifting lyrics of the piano player. Having live music was such a bonus. Upon the request of my friend , he played a special song for my birthday and my friend and I danced along to it spontaneously! Luigi farewelled us at the end as did all of the waiting staff. Our dining experience was more than just delightful food! It was definitely a birthday to remember!
Sensational quattro formaggi gnocchi!
A (very rare) chance at a date night provided the ideal opportunity for us to try LD, and it didn't disappoint. Heading to a show at Festival Centre meant we had limited time, and LD made sure our food came promptly. We chose the quattro formaggi gnocchi and it was superb, we couldn't believe how light they were. The seafood pasta included the prawn heads (which I always appreciate), had an excellent depth of flavour and PLENTY OF SEAFOOD. We had to order more bread because we didn't want to waste the sauce. It's not the cheapest place around but for this quality of product, you'd expect to pay a premium.
10/10
By far the best restaurant in Adelaide. Great service, food excellent and the staff was very good, staff even entertained my 2yo son so we could enjoy our dinner. Pianist right in the middle of the restaurant was a great entertainment Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pietro the Incompetent host
Pietro was do rude and incompetent. When we arrived he put us in a table outside ; it was cold so we asked to move. He became very rude and said we should have requested this when we called to book. After waiting more than twenty minutes for him to make up a table next to the kitchen, he still told us to wait. Needless to say, we left.
Best deli in Adelaide.
Best gnocchi for miles. Fantastic service. Our waiter, Abel, was delightful. I would recommend Luigi’s. Will be back.
Try the Gnocchi
Reservations required. Met by friendly staff. The four of us ordered all different dishes and were very pleased. I ordered gnocchi - oh so light, melt in our mouth delicious - the best in town.
Luigi Delicatessen offers a truly unique experience
Charm, Elegance and Style - this is what Luigi Delicatessen is all about. We booked a table for two for a 7.30pm sitting on a Saturday night; as we entered we were greeted by Luigi himself, a lovely and charming man who immediately made us feel welcome. We were ushered to our table by Pietro, who was courteous and hospitable. We ordered a bottle of Chianti and a bottle of sparkling water for the table; as we waited for these to arrive we were regaled by some excellent entertainment by way of two extremely talented jazz musicians - one on piano, the other on a very large bass. This restaurant doesn’t have menus, instead the amazing staff spend time with you informing you of all the options available for entree, main course and dessert and then you pick and choose as you wish, you can even change things up a little by making requests specific to your personal needs and taste - truly a unique experience which I actually quite enjoyed. The food was amazing; entree was antipasti, superb; main courses were pasta dishes, one was gnocchi the other was linguini, both cooked to perfection and both served in very generous portions. Finally we had dessert, I had a panna cotta, my partner had a chocolate slice - decadent and indulgent both mmmm The staff were attentive and looked after us well; the two Jazz musicians played as if just for us; and the whole night was one which my partner and I both enjoyed. Finally it was time to go, with a wave goodbye to the Jazz duo, a handshake with Pietro; we walked outside and who was there to greet us and say thank you and goodbye; none other than Luigi and his lovely wife Angela. We will definitely be coming back to this gem of a restaurant. 5 out of 5 stars.
Definitely worth a visit
Amazing food & service was second to none. The quality and quantity of food is definitely value for money. Their attention to detail and the variety on offer on one breakfast board is amazing.
A wonderful restaurant experience
Excellent food and extraordinarily friendly service. I was worried about the lack of a written menu partly because I wouldn't see any prices, but the serves were huge and the value quite good for what we received. Three people, two substantial courses each, one medium priced bottle of wine, for $303 total. Not cheap but a fair price. I won't hesitate to return but will order less food next time.
Luigi Delicatessen Magnifico!
My second visit to this amazing place in 6 months. Great food and service. Almost worth moving to Adelaide to eat here more often. One of the best casual Italian food experiences you can have anywhere.
We felt conned!
We were shocked at the bill $300 for two of us! Menu less dining - so I guess we should have asked for the price but felt embarrassed! Heavy onsell by waitresses who whispered and we couldn’t understand. Food was ok but stodgy gnocchi- super rich. And too much- bread was awful. We left feeling disappointed
Good food, nice wait staff but terrible tardy service that actually cost money.
I hate writing bad reviews but I think feedback is very important and I actually learnt quite a lesson from my Luigi experience. We had a booking for 2000 hours (the second sitting) and the table wasn’t ready (no big deal) we were seated by about 2015 and we were met by Angas who explained the preference for a feed me set menu. We all went along with that. Our entree arrived just over an hour later, during that time we were consuming wine and cocktails and we were all absolutely starving. The entree’s were quite eclectic, in the sense that it was excellent seafood with almost a combo of Greek and Italian cousine. We did not leave a morsel of food. Our main course boards arrived an hour after that (at about 2215) we had quietly complained about the wait and were told that it was an exceptionally busy night (that excuse didn’t really hit the mark with me given they had bookings and knew how many people to cater for). In response to our muted moaning about the time taken we were offered some free desserts among the selection to be served. OK, the food was really good - an 8 out of 10 for me, but the experience was just spoiled by the really long waits (not even any bread offered to assuage the hunger) and the fact that we probably had two bottles of wine and a couple of cocktails (for the younger ones) extra as a result of the wait. That is the lesson for me, they profited from their tardiness by selling more drinks (not to mention the $54 part of the bill that was for sparkling water). All in all, a trap for young players and I just wouldn’t put up with it again. Our bill was just over $1400 for 8 people.
Simply, the best
Delicious food. Friendly, amazing service. Luigi and his team are amazing. Loved the live music. Deliberately over ordered so I can continue to enjoy tomorrow…
