WORST FOOD EVEER
DON'T EAT OR DO A TAKEOUT THIS PLACE. In fact, I'm thinking about boycotting this place, it can't be called a restaurant. People with money to burn or out of their minds would eat at this place. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK and Gross. I've decided to do a takeout for a dinner on March 6th 2024 as I was not able to book a reservation any time soon. What a HORRIBLE FOOD and A RIP OFF: 4 piece of California Roll, 1 piece of rolled crab meat that I didn't order, 2 pieces of not fresh limp old salmon, 2 pieces of not fresh limp old tuna sashimi for $60. WORST FOOD I've ever had. I became nauseated right after I swallowed that Crab meat roll. My experience with MShushi was a huge DISAPPOINTMENT and an anger. My sons' hard-earned money was wasted on this CRAP made by MShushi and that they have audacity to sell this as edible food. In fact, I'm going to register a complaint with the Durham County Food Inspection Department and BBB. YOU SHOUD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF, Michael.

The restaurant is located in a strange area- well, kinda off an alley but it has great atmosphere. The service was great, friendly and knowledge. The food was amazing and delicous. We had poke bowl which was plentiful, miso soup and seared salmon roll. All recommended.
Be the first to ReplyAs good as it gets
Heard great things about this place and it did not disappoint. Each and every dish was outstanding, and the service was at least that good. The crudo was sublime. Our server Christina knew the menu cold and navigated serving our table of 6 perfectlyโฆnot easy when some order the menu and some order a la carte. Big bonus, she really knew her sakeโthe sake list is excellent incidentally; short but sweet. I canโt imagine visiting Durham and not dining here.

This was some of the best sushi we have ever tasted and the setting was perfect. You need reservations as it is very popular.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch but get reservations
Really great lunch menu options! We both had soup, salad and a roll - the salad was really nice and the rolls were delicious! It was so so busy and we wish weโd gotten reservations though.

Really good sushi well presented. I took a set of sushi: I appreciated the fact they had a variety of different fishes, I am less a fan of the semi cooked one. Overall a good experience on the expensive side.

Was recommended to go. A bit hard to find but worth it. Small place, large bar for eating and some tables. Not your traditional sushi but very good

Our travel plans changed and we found ourselves without a place for dinner in downtown Durham. It was our first trip to Durham and I had researched a few restaurants. We wanted to try M Sushi but didnโt have a reservation. We were encouraged to be placed on a waitlist and then we were able to get in for a late dinner. It was worth the wait. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely helpful. He recommended the sashimi platterโฆ wow! It was so fresh with a buttery texture. Truly delightful. I had a ginger peach mule and my daughter had the MG & T, fabulous flavor! We also had hand rolls and traditional sushi rolls. We topped off the evening with Mochi donuts! We will be back the next time we come to town!

Just had dinner at M Sushi while i was in Durham for business. The Omakase was excellent, each course was better than the previous one. I sat at the sushi bar, very cool setting. The service was attentive but not rushed. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyThis was the worst meal I've ever had, full stop.
It was so bad it quite literally ruined the rest of the evening and the next few meals after. To start, the restaurant is uncomfortably crammed in a basement, with apparently no temperature control whatsoever. I ordered the Grand Omakase... the sushi was uninspiring - better than take out, but not even close to its price point. That alone would have been a three star review, if not for what comes next. The low point of the evening was the Wagyu beef. The dish is served flaming, which is intended to cook the beef before the customer blows out the fire. The fire would not go out - neither I, the waitress, nor any of the other customers could extinguish the dish. I burnt myself badly trying to eat the beef before it literally went up in flames, as did most of the guests around me who ordered the same. I was absolutely appalled - not only was the meal a far cry from worth the price we paid, but it was genuinely dangerous being served a completely out of control flame. There are dozens of great restaurants in Durham - you can find infinitely better quality for a fraction of the price.

This should be a 3.5 review. We love all the "M" restaurants but this one was our least favorite. They have fresh ingredients and some interesting ideas like the lobster shabu shabu but overall the dishes lacked really interesting or memorable flavors.
For example the signature M sushi roll just tries to hard but adding things like 'calamari curd' (no, you don't taste it). The scallop mousse and lobster dumplings was bland and while it's supposed to have truffle emulsion you can't taste it.
Skip the small plates and signature rolls and just get the sushi. The nighri was great and while we didn't order the bento box, that also looked great.
Maybe the best meal I've had in Durham
We had the seaweed salad, the dumplings, nigiri omakase and a few more orders of sushi. This is certainly the best sushi I've had in North Carolina. The chef had fun with sone of the omakase offerings (truffle oil, aioli, charred salt) but the pristinely fresh fish always was foremost. The scallop/lobster/truffle dumplings are pricey ($15 for 4) but are absolutely luscious. I'm not usually a fan of desserts at Asian restaurants, but the coconut sorbet and the yuzu semifreddo are simply wonderful

M Stands for mmmmmm- good.
Whether looking for top notch selection or top notch quality, presentation and service, one will find it here. Seaweed salad is delicious; chef choice salmon with garlic- superb. Variety selection- perfect. Combined with helpful, pleasant and confident service provided by Alexis made our special occasion perfect. Rounds of drinks and belly busting quantities added up to around $55 per person. Pretty good for top notch !!!
Would go on a date here again
This place is a great joint. It's very modern and hip and a great date night joint. Yes, we went here for date night. And the food was excellent. Everything we tried was very tasty. The saki was also good. The staff wasn't trying to get us out the door which I found nice. It is pricier, but very worth it for the service quality, speed, and the food quality.
