1st visit. French high brasserie in London are typically a tourists-trap. Over priced, low quality ingredients, poor services. Not here. Tried oeuf en gelee, pate en croute, beef bordelaise, hake, creme caramel, tarte aux pommes, cafe etc... Almost all dishes were of high quality. I would suggest that the pate was too dry, lack seasoning, fat, moisture and direction in tastes. There is a world Championship for Pate-en-croute because it is one of the simplest and most difficult dish of the French repertoire. When I see the quality of the other dishes served here, I know the cuisine can do much better with that pate -and the quality of the cornichon as well btw. The wine list is not great sadly. No gem. I know this is so difficult to create a wine list in London today so I really do understand the issues there, but some good Pinot noir d' Alsace, some Morgon, Fleurie, Mondeuse, more Loire Valley etc... A good sommelier can do better than what I have seen today. On balance, the best high end French brasserie I have tasted for years here in London. The staff is attentive, very polite, a few issues I dont want to develop here but no big deal. First visit so I should not get over excited but serious stuff is happening here. Not many people at lunch time. When they serve 250 customers in the evening, does quality follow? I don't know. Based on my experience, today, at lunch time, two covers, a very good French brasserie. Keen to come back. PS: Would quality classic French music in the background add to the experience? I believe so. My view anyway.
