Incredible food, massive portions, fantastic service
As a fan of Dave Chang from his shows Ugly Delicious and Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, we had to make Majordomo the ending to our 10 week road trip across the US. When we pulled up the area seemed sketchy, but we found the restaurant easy enough, and once we were inside we found the space warm and exciting. We sat at the counter, with a great view of the kitchen and watching the chefs work was a treat. Serena looked after us and she was fantastic, she guided my wife and I through the menu beautifully and never rushed us through any of our choices. We had the half ssam, as well as some breads and sides, and everything was utterly delicious. The portions were huge so we had plenty for lunch the next dayโฆ even these were boxed up beautifully by the team. Could not recommend higher.

We got the tuna carpaccio, duck rice and iberico pork with crispy potatoes. The food comes out in unique ways and unique silverware. While majordomo is a bit pricey, it was all very good and we canโt think of a single real complaint. My wife also has a tree nut allergy and they are continuously conscious of it. That may sound simple, but many restaurants have forgotten and given my wife things with nuts in the past if it was something not mentioned on the menu. Weโd come back anytime we are visiting!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing
Excellent food and service. Staff is very friendly and helpful with the menu. Itโs a different kind of menu. Everything was so unique and delicious. We loved the bread with eggplant dip, squash dish, crispy rice and mushrooms. Also fish was excellent
Be the first to ReplySoooo tasty
Food is so amazing. We had a great time. Pricy night and hidden away location but so good. We got one thing from each section between two including a shared pudding
Be the first to ReplyOur second visit to Majordomo
Since our daughter moved back to LA after 13 years away, we can celebrate her birthdays together. We start off with cocktails: - Painkiller โ copalli cacao rum, bertoux brandy, coconut cream, calamansi (southeast asian sweet lime), orange, five spice, koji โ it came as a slush (waitress told us that Painkillers are actually slushes!); - Gibson โ edinburgh seaside gin, oka kura burmotto vermouth (rare vermouth from Japan), kombu (subtle), white soy (could not taste that), and a pickled pearl onion; - Hot Toddy โ suntori toki whisky, blackstrap rum, yuja-cheong (what is that?), lemon, ginger, spices. There are 5 sections in the menu โ we choose from each to share family style. From the RAW section we choose the scallops (waitressโ recommendation) โ cucumber, rhubarb, chilli โ the broth is very unusual and delicious, probably has kombu and bonito, thinly sliced cucumbers, and rhubarb sticks, and very tender scallops. One of the best dishes of the night! Our second outstanding dish was from the MARKET AND SNACKS section โ Fried oxtail with salsa seca, peanuts, honey butter โ the oxtail is hidden under the salsa seca โ this was crunchy deliciousness with a slightly sweet butter flavor, and the fried dried chillis provided the perfect spice heat for me. The oxtail was a little dry, but still delicious! David Chang pioneered the BING concept โ the flatbread, almost like a Chinese bao, with toppings. Here we chose the Bentonโs Country ham โ Chang has developed a special relationship with the Bentonโs group in Tennessee. Itโs an artisanal producer that takes great care in doing the country ham โ the slices were thin like prosciutto, but none of the gaminess, and perfectly salted โ superb to put on the bing! From the NOODLES AND RICE section we got the off the menu item of crispy rice with mushroom, 3 types of peas (English, sugar, and snap) and pork belly. A broth was poured tableside and mixed in โ the bottom rice had the perfect crunch like the Iranian soccorat. This was another superhit! From the MEAT AND FISH section we got the Grilled Striped Bass Fillet โ with domojang (Korean fermented bean sauce), and herbs. The fish was perfectly cooked, skin-on, and the domojang topping was superb. With a squeeze of the grilled lemon, it was good to the last bite. Came with a bowl of rice. From the MEAT AND SNACKS section we also ordered Grille sprouting broccoli with ginger vinaigrette, and crispy shallots. This was meant to be a green to go with our other dishes. Was very tasty. We shared a dessert โ Paris Brest โ straciatella (Italian gelato โ except that here it was soft cream), hazelnut, cocoa.

The restaurant is well hidden in a chinatown corner within an industrial section of it, which gives it a touch of exclusivity and indieness. The place itself is very atmospheric, while not very original with the now common industrial decor, it is still very nice with open spaces, kitchen, bar seating and a very nice terrace with classy touches here and there. The music is amazing. The food... well, this is some of the best I have ever tried: it is an asian fusion, not very identifiable but wildly tasty, exotic, unique. For this kind of place, the prices are quite good: each dish is enough for at least 2 people. The hostesses and waiters are very attentive and kind! Fit for families, couples, solo, with kids, etc. The ambience is particularly good at night given the decor and location.
Be the first to ReplyModern Asian fare from David Chang
Modern Asian fare from David Chang. Iโve been wanting to come here for a while, so my expectations were high and the place did not disappoint. Made a reservation for a Sunday via Resy for 5pm. They have indoor as well as patio dining available. Thereโs a parking lot for $5 or you can find street parking around the area (just donโt block any of the garages).
The food was SO GOOD. The whole plate short rib was the star of the show and made sure you call them at least 24 hours in advance to ensure itโs there. Itโs supposed to be for 5-6 people but a group of four can easily handle it with a little bit of leftovers. The meat was so tender and juicy. It was lightly sweet but still savory. It practically melts in your mouth. The beef fried rice coats your mouth with an unctuous silkiness from the fat trimmings and was my favorite part. We got a spicy lamb bing with extra bing ($3 more) and thatโs a solid appetizer. The stuffed peppers are made of shishito peppers and are airily fried with slightly spicy sausage. The buttermilk ranch that comes in the side is rich and heavy. Also special shout out to the gochujang sauce that came on the side of the ribs - that was my favorite sauce to put on the meat.
For dessert, we got a hojicha trifle which wasnโt too sweet, but a nice way to end the meal. For those who drink alcohol, the shochu is intense and the vesper was refreshing.
Credit cards are accepted. There are bathrooms available by the bar (they have bidets!) with one of the three stalls being a handicap stall. Our waitress was super bubbly and friendly, and the service is quick and efficient. Overall, a great dinner for any special occasion or for when youโre trying to treat yourself to a delicious meal.
Great venue, average food
I guess the title says it all...
Nice place but nothing special.
If you want good food, stick to Gjelina or Kismet, or others...
Too Expensive and inconsistent dishes
I know this place has a cut like fan base but in reality the food is overly expensive and warehouse district in no where land LA downtown. You can valet or park free around corner on street if you feel safe. We had five so we ordered a lot and bill was $384 before tip, yikes. Drinks are different with again some good and some bad. Spicy Margarita I did not like, way too spicy. Fog cutters were very sweet, tasty but different for a gin drink. Best dish for us surprising was the boiled whole chicken which is two dishes because they make soup from dark meat and bones but takes a long time for $75. Appetizers were tasty and different like lamb and duck liver for $12 each to share, Truffle macaroni with no cheese was real tasty and tasted cheesy for $52 but smaller size for truffle price. Steamed rock fish my least favorite loaded with salt almost uneatable for me for $52. Won't be back, too pricey for this food with inconsistency in dishes that I liked. Too much salt for me in their dishes but others love it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Embarrassing service.
Loved everything we had on the menu, but our server was too cool for his job. He was condescending when asking about a wine selection and about an item's preparation. He was uninterested in giving any thoughtful recommendations, only pointing to the most expensive thing on the menu. It was clear that he was uninterested in being there beyond the money, and it really robbed what could have been a great meal. We asked both tables next to us how they felt about the service, and both were disappointed, one was very upset. It can be hard to staff large, busy, trendy restaurants, so I would give it another try, but once bitten, twice shy. There are far better restaurants in LA with better service for a better value.
Be the first to ReplyWe did not have a reservation.
We did not have a reservation. Arrived at 5:25 (5 minutes before opening) on a Tuesday. There were 23 people ahead of us, 9 without reservations. We were given a table and asked if we could be done by 7:30 for the next reservation. We happily agreed.
The place was bigger than I thought from the reviews. There were about 14 tables in the main area, I couldn't count in the second room, and then a sizable patio. There was also a long bar that could seat probably close to 20 people. The interior is beautifully done. Modern open space with glass, metal, and wood.
There were four of us and we ordered family style. Stuffed Peppers ($16). The sausage and buttermilk made this tasty. Green Beans ($14). The sauce made these tart and these were probably our least favorite item. Market Lettuces ($11). The brown butter with chopped macadamia was surprising and delicious. Crispy Rice ($31). Served in a soup wtih asparagus, chanterelles, and bacon. Crispy Pork Belly ($24). Served Korean style, with bibb lettuce. 45 Day Dry-Aged Holstein Ribeye ($130). Served with a bearnaise and potato wedge fries. The best addition to this was a small bowl of melted raclette, which is served with the Boneless Chuck Short Rib, but were able to get a side of. If you love cheese, this was amazing and made the potato wedges a perfect 10!
With drinks and tip, this meal was nearly $400 for four people. Recommend going with a group of at least four people so that you can try several dishes and many of the meat items require several hungry people. The Whole Plate Short Rib looked great, but it serves 4-6 people ($190). Maybe another time.
The manager and servers were gracious, patient (I had a lot of questions about the menu), and non-intrusive. Good experience!
Enjoy and if you can't get a reservation, just go early!
Regrets
Have you ever gone to a restaurant and then regretted your decision to go? That was the case with majordomo in Las Vegas. Iโm a big fan of David Chang and so I was eager to experience his vegas outpost of his LA hit. It was a major disappointment. Maybe in 1 year when all aspects of the restaurant have had time to gel, majordomo might be better. All started with drinks: my bourbon was not even available on this restaurantโs very first night opening. More disappointing was that the menu is bare bones and has no nod to anything asian. I had the New York sirloin and it came out nearly raw in the center. Having to taste a re-heated steak is never the same as having the steak cooked perfect the first time. And the lack of empathy from the waiter made the steak taste even worse. Consistency is the sign of a great steak house and majordomo is off to a terrible start. There are so many better steaks to eat in Vegas...The final straw was the limited desert options (only 2). Overall, this restaurant does not live up to the standards of David Chang and even his presence in the kitchen could not save opening night.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Experience.
I have followed David Chang for a long time now over all mediums his podcast, TV series & books etc etc so coming to majordomo was a big thing for me as I had heard him discuss it but having the chance to see it and draw the connections was an experience in itself. Firstly I had no idea when he said it's a destination restaurant as there is not much around it the extremes this meant but for me this was half the adventure. Walking into the large covered outdoor area where we would sit and the buzz that hit you when you opened the door filled me with joy. Throughout the evening the staff were attentive and conversational which was great, they were also very knowledgeable about the menu and how much to order which is always helpful. Onto the food and to start the Bing bread with cultured honey & duck mousse. The bing bread was so pillowy and almost like an unsweetened doughnut in its lightness which the honey and butter pair perfectly with. I also cannot stress enough for me how amazing the combination of the butter and honey topped with abit of salt worked, I can only think the use of fat to offset the sweetness was the reason this worked so well. The duck moose was also good but the honey butter and bread combo is unreal and a most try for me.
The marinated mushrooms worked due to being perfectly marinated with vinegar and the accompanying pea shoots and pictashios provided a freshness to the dish.
Onto the crispy butterball potato, AMAZING texture with the not commonly dried salsa seca ingredients. Beautiful balance of taste, texture and heat with a strong sesame flavour from seeds and oil providing a flavour balance
Pork belly lettuce cups with steamed rice and chilli oil provided the "make your own experience" and sharing/communicating vibe that is so appealing to me. The pork belly was crisp, chilli sauce spicy and the steamed rice & lettuce delicately matching all these flavours together.
In juxtaposition to the pork belly the black cod gave a light bite but nevertheless packed with just as much flavour but maybe slightly too delicate for my palette.
We finished with the banana, butterscotch & chocolate desert. Butterscotch and banana combination was ideal as you might expect a hat tip to my favour desert banoffee pie. It was very sweet but all the flavours complimented each other
My only regret was there was only two of us so the larger sharing "carve at tableside" dishes weren't really an option for us as both on the menu and the tables around us these dishes looked outstanding and provide the perfect ambiance for a larger group . All in all a fantastic experience and when visiting other areas of the states that Dave has restaurants I will be hunting them out.
Outstanding
A few business associates made dinner reservations at Majordomo. I had never heard of the restaurant but was more than satisfied with the restaurants offerings. I'd rate 5 stars for the food, craft cocktails and ambiance. I would definitely return on my next LA visit.
Be the first to ReplyA little short for Momofuku chain
We went to Majordomo for dinner on a super noisy night, there was a festival of some sort and it was pretty distracting and even hard to talk to our server.
One of my only complaints is that this restaurant is not well designed for a dinner of only 2 people. We were on a short trip, my husband and I visit momofuku restaurants every time we have the chance, but were a little dissapointed on this one that there was no way we would be able to try enough dishes.
We order the spicy lamb bing (not spicy enough we thought), and the diver scallops ( delicious and buttery soft), after that we had the Macaroni and chickpea (I think one of the best dishes of the night) and the Grilled por chop (was good but not mind blowing). To finish the night, our server offered us the last piece of a new dessert made out of dates , I think it was one of the highlights of the night.
We left wanting to have been able to try more, but the family size of the portions makes it a little hard, but I would come again to try more dishes definitely.
I do understand the menu difference for this restaurant, but Ko still always comes up as my favorite.
