Mamey Miami Coral Gables Reviews from The Last Year

From the time we arrived until the time that we left, the experience was amazing! We are not from the area, and arrived early fearing that we would hit some of the crazy Miami area traffic! They were able to get us in early, and seated without a problem. The atmosphere was awesome and the service was great. The food was amazing to the point we probably ate a bit too much, and still ordered dessert! Totally worth it!

Awesome experience!! The chef Raul Zambrano was definitely a great choice to lead the team, the food is now fresher and the flavors have more personality than ever. The service from Melina and Ruben exceeded the expectations. The drinks from the Master Bartender Jonathan made me break the "only one drink rule". And of course the politeness from Rick the manager always made feel like home.
Food was amazing.
Top service. Great serene Ambiance. After dinner we went upstairs to relaxed lounge bar area, feel like a Caribbean oasis.
Mamey Miami is very Miami.
Beautiful interior design and decor. Service was top notch by Manny. Hosted super sweet. The appetizers were all delish - tostones, the guava coquette, arepas and sweet plantains with cheese. Mains - Snapper over coconut rice, Waygu burger and hanger steak were all excellent. Desserts were absolute perfection. Each and everyone!

For lunch, my friends and I chose outside seating which was nice. The service was very good, and everything was delightful. For starters, I chose a refreshing peach drink, and shared the guava plantains (pictured) and fried arepas. It was all magnificent. For entrees, we had the grouper with coconut rice that not only was pleasing to the eyes, but also made our taste buds dance. For the amount of food ordered, the cost for a party of three was on the pricey side, but to be expected during these times.
We had reservations for Easter brunch at 11am.
At 11:30 they were still not ready. First they sat us (2 adults and 2 children) at a lounge type table. Table was coffee table and the chairs something you would have in a living room. Not appropriate for eating especially with 2 small children. When asked if there was another table, staff seemed annoyed. Had to go back to hostess stand to request another table. They didn't even offer to carry the menu to the next table. Didn't have hot chocolate as a drink option for the kids. Food was okay. No maple syrup out for the waffles. Very lightly seasoned. Requested salt that was never received. Also our sugar was removed from the table for another table. Apparently not enough sugar caddies for a brunch. Lastly no egg hunt or prizes as advertised. Double charged and have left 2 messages for the Finance Department of the hotel because no answer at the restaurant and the mailbox is full.

Used to love this place and came in looking forward to the great menu and cocktails that Mamey would make. We went again recently with some friends and they had changed the entire menu due to the old chef leaving. The drinks were all watered down or flavorless. Ended up changing my drink for a whiskey neat and was charged $20 for a WR. The food was mediocre at best and the definitely NOT worth the money. It's a shame that this place has turned into every other crappy Miami restaurant with overpriced menu and mediocre food. Truly upset that we will not be returning here.

I checked out the happy hour at Mamey in THesis Hotel, Coral Gables. The vibe? Cool, definitely a nice spot to unwind. The appetizers were alright, nothing too crazy but decent for a munch. Drinks? They did their job, kind of what you'd expect but could use a bit more oomph. Overall, it's a nice place to hang with friends, especially if you're nearby and looking for a decent happy hour deal. Worth a shot if you're in the area and wanna try something new.
Absolutely Terribke, Save Yourself the Disappointment!!
Save yourself the disappointment, the time and money. This place is absolutely terrible! The menu has drastically changed since the chef left and the hotel introduced a new chef and new menu. The food took ages, the service was slow even tough the place was empty and when it finally came the steak was cold, the chicken rice was hard and over cooked and a cold plate of tuna appetizers took 45 mins to bring out and was tasteless. Overall a Zero , Never Going Back and actually feel bad for the people working there.

This place has a very well curated menu with unique dishes.
The main entrees are a bit pricey but it is understandable as they use high quality ingredients and do a good job with the flavor combinations and presentation. The decor is also very pretty, although the restaurant is quite dark inside.
Looking forward to come back
Best service from staff. Enjoyed the nice outdoor sitting with a breeze. Fun ambiance and delicious food. They weren't kidding with the bottomless mimosas!

This is a very cute restaurant with parking next door with an adorable decoration. Great for pictures and with an option of an outside area. The menu is very limited, and on a higher price, but the food is good, the service is amazing and the place is worth visiting.
It was great spot.
One of those nights we wanted to venture out and have a mom and daughter date night. Great ambiance, delicious food, super pricey and although there were few choices for food, they were delicious and worth it. We also had a glass of wine each. Service was regular. They do add gratuity to the check so beware of that. All in all, cute for dates, corporate dinner, bday dinner and prepare to spend.
Overhyped mediocre food and service
Overrated and overpriced mediocre hotel restaurant. Service was slow on a very slow night. Waited more than an hour for food. Water was served room temperature in tiny glasses with unattended refill service. Parking at valet is cash only and $20. One guest and our party did not like the food and ended up ordering something else. Instead of removing the item from the check, they wrapped up the uneaten food and handed it to her in a doggy bag. Was charged $32 for that meal despite the fact that it was uneaten and sent back. We were a party of eight and made reservations to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived, the hostess had not even designated a table for our party, and we ended up waiting until they identified a place for us to sit. This was on a Monday night, and the restaurant was empty! I can’t imagine the service on a busy night. To add insult to injury, our bill included a 20% gratuity because we were a large party. Will not be returning to this establishment.

My friends surprised me with this for my birthday and to put it simply, it was a very pleasant surprise. Their menu is very small and limited and we were told that they had changed it recently. Even with that being said, everything we ordered was amazing. The appetizers all came out in a timely manner and tasted wonderful. The Ceviche fresh and refreshing, the Croq Mamey came with a sort of guava sauce on the side which added a very nice touch to the plate, and the tostones were amazing with a sauce that came on them which I ordered for the yuca fries with my steak later on. The Hanger Steak was cooked perfectly to temp. One thing i will say is the entrees took about an hour to come out and it didn't seem too busy in the restaurant. It also would've been nice to see some more cocktails included on the list. It seemed like everything was based off almost the same ingredients and none of the drinks really blew me away. It was a very small list and they were out of one the drinks we wanted to try. They do, however, have a full bar and made us a solid espresso martini. Finally, the ambiance inside is what drew my friends to pick this place. It is dim lit and full of greenery located at the bottom of the thesis hotel. I would definitely come back here.
RIP Mamey.
My family had really enjoyed this restaurant with its unique and delicious options on the menu. My wife booked reservations for the whole family for the night out and when we sat down and looked at the menu it was completely different. Absolutely nothing is from the Mamey you would remember. We were told that there is new ownership and chefs at the restaurant. The front desk should tell returning customers that the restaurant is completely different. Any pictures or reviews of food posted prior to this date no longer exist at Mamey. Grilled Brie sandwich you will be missed.

Perfect spot on a nice afternoon for some quick bites and drinks. It was pretty empty on a Thursday which is fine by me. The service was friendly and efficient and the food delicious. The seating was comfortable and conducive for small groups or singles. My favorite were the short rib empanadas. Daily happy hour is from 3-6. Try it out!
The bartender was rude, and he made the worst gin tonic
The bartender was rude, and he made the worst gin tonic I've ever had. We had a party for and he took appetizers. The waiter took appetizer orders for three of the four and left me out. When I called them back for the appetizer, he brought it and then took dinner worries, and did not take my dinner. Absolutely terrible.
I really liked Mamey.
At first the menu was jarring but the staff were excellent in making suggestions. We had different items from the usual fare such as grilled cheese sandwich (a fancy sort) and a really tasty tomato base mussel dish with sour dough almost in the shape of a naan. It was scenically a really pretty spot and for sure we will go back.
Delicious food and tasty, well crafted cocktails.
We had their lamb ribs which were over seasoned that day, their empanadas were good but dry and the best of the food was the grilled Brie sandwich with the mango sauce! Omg the decadence! MUST TRY! They actually have mixologists there so you can get a craft cocktail. My go to is a passion fruit gin sour with egg whites. Yummy
Came here for my graduation dinner and had a great time
Came here for my graduation dinner and had a great time with family! I really wanted to come here because it is right across from UM and I've been wanting to try the food. They did not disappoint! Since it was a special occasion, we ordered the package with multiple dishes. I got to try different dishes which was great! My favorite was the lamb ribs! The service was very nice too. Very attentive. I loved the overall vibe of the place.
WOW!!
Mamey never disappoints. Amazing cuisine - every single dish was delicious. The ambiance is fun and the service was excellent.
Average, Though Your Mileage May Vary
I don’t usually review local restaurants, preferring to write about more distant places, but was reminded that what is closer to home is probably distant to someone else so… Mamey’s menu has a Caribbean/Asian fusion slant which has become not as uniquely sounding as one might expect. Still, if executed well, there are enough flavor combinations to surprise if not at least meet expectations. The restaurant itself has an indoor bar-centric area and an outdoor covered walkway space. On entering, the noise and canned music were a bit too loud for normal conversation and when we asked for a quiet table we were ushered to the outdoor hallway. This would later prove to be a mistake because 1) There is no view of interest to merit being relegated to al fresco dining, especially when 2) The fresco portion was non-existent on a humid South Florida evening as overhead fans pushing around hot air were not enough to prevent rivulets of sweat dripping down our backs, 3) The music volume was quickly increased anyway as more diners were seated and 4) Though probably not allowed, the wafting smell of cigarette smoke was intermittent enough to be annoying. We chose a sampling menu where food was to be presented “family style” with four appetizers served, then the table would be cleared for four second courses, then cleared once more for dessert. The appetizers were interesting enough on paper: Conch fritters with a cilantro aioli being the most flavorful while the usual tired catch-of-the-day ceviche (found in so, so many Miami restaurants) was the least. The white truffle and brie grilled cheese might have made the list but the faint flavors were overwhelmed by a mango jam and the too-thick bread. We also found the ceviche and watermelon salad selections a bit cumbersome to serve “family style” as the corresponding liquids, integral to their taste, were difficult to keep separate on the lone 6” plate that was set for each diner. The plate-clearing and appearance of the mains was a bit slow, and once again the items were hit-and-miss: The lemongrass glazed grouper on bok choy with bamboo rice and Thai curry was inspired (the grouper being cooked perfectly), but a bit more than a whiff of lemongrass would have been appreciated. A churrasco with red pepper chimichurri was also good though not groundbreaking, while a vegetable Pad Thai was serviceable, and a gummy mess of ghee roasted plantains was both tasteless and forgettable. There was plenty of time to ponder these dishes as, again, the clearing of plates took so long that we were able to examine the used plates at our leisure, allowing for copious notes to be written. A Jamaican rum cake with toffee syrup was presented for dessert and, although one of the more flavorful selections of the evening, also had to be served “family style.” This proved a challenging proposition when it came to dividing the 4” round mass among our table of three. I believe for a selection of that size the restaurant could certainly spring for one item per person rather than having diners perform micro-surgery to split apart the presentation (I shudder to think how it would have gone if there were a group of 5 or 6). Only valet parking is offered at the hotel where the restaurant is located ($12.00 for two hours as of this writing) and there is no validation.
Great experience
We went for dinner to get the Taste of The Gables with two friends. This was our first time in the restaurant the whole experience was outstanding. Since the moment we walked in, we went to the bar to meet with a friend and the mixologist was very attentive suggesting drinks for all of us. The restaurant gorgeous... We were seated right away and the waiter came to speak about the menu and get our drinks. Allie came to our table and introduced herself and gave us back round about the chef and to how they cook with fresh local ingredients. She made us delicious cocktails and we were in heaven. We ordered the Taste of the Gables and we were not disappointed. The appetizers, the main courses and dessert were spectacular!! Everything was very tasty, specially the grouper and the plantain dish. The portions were very generous, we could not finish everything, so bring your appetite! I will definitely come back again for amazing food and great service.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
