Great Evening with business colleagues
Beautiful sunset made this business dinner fabulous. Seafood Tower was amazing and barely left room for dinner. The bone in rib-eye was cooked perfectly and the table side martini was a nice added touch.
Be the first to ReplySteak excellent, service below average
The steak was cooked beautifully, and rested , Service very patchy , slow and forgetful, Food great , service needs to be better
Be the first to ReplyOUTSTANDING
The atmosphere is amazing, the waitresses were all very nice and accommodating and professional, food is excellent and the plates are big! Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Been here many, many times over the years, but tonight was way below par. Bar staff busy, yes, but so inattentive! Took the wrong order. When the food came, steak was OK but sauce was tepid and Brussels sprouts, inedible. Completely raw on the inside and burnt (not charred) on the outside. The whole experience was really poor. Shame.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Dinner and Service, had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time
Wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and decided to do a weekend in LA, with dinner on the ocean at Mastro's. We had a 7:45 reservation and arrived at 7:15. We weren't sure how bad traffic would be and figured we would check in early and enjoy the views of the ocean. Technically, you can park on PCH 1 for free but mostly the option is to valet for $15. We got checked in and were told it would be closer to 7:45 (which is fine because that was our time) and to either enjoy the bar or wait and they would call us when ready. There was no room at the bar so we went outside. When it got to be about 7:50 I checked with the hostess to see how things were looking and was told "We still have to sit two 7:30 parties, then you are the first 7:45 to be seated so it should be shortly". It was clearly very busy as at no time did seating at the bar open up. Around 8:05 the hostess brought my wife and I a free glass of champagne (very nice) and apologized for the wait and said we would be seated shortly. Finally at 8:15 we were seated. Once seated, service was excellent. The views of the ocean are very nice. Bread and drinks were brought right away. We splurged and ordered a lot of stuff. Market price was $150 for caviar, which we had. Market price for scallops wound up being about $50 for 4 scallops. Both were worth it. Probably the best scallops I've ever eaten. We also tried the brussels sprouts (good but I've had better and wouldn't get again), chopped salad (very good and pretty large), Lobster Mashed Potatoes (although you do get A LOT of lobster, I wish we would've gotten the lobster Mac n Cheese instead and wouldn't get the mashed again). For the main courses we got Sea Bass (excellent) and the Double Cut Pork Chop (also excellent). We just couldn't do dessert as we had too much food for the two of us. Overall, 30 minutes past reservation time is the only thing that held me back from 5 stars. The free glasses of champaign were very nice and I can accept 15 minutes or so past reservation time but 30 is a lot to be sitting around (especially since all the seating is outside and it was getting cold at that point). It also caused us to miss out on half an hour of ocean views as it got dark shortly after we seated. All that said, we'll probably go back since a lot of the food was so darn good.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Experience for $$$ Paid and Worst Service
After many options I decided on Mastro's for my husbands 50th Birthday. Biggest mistake. Hostess area was chaotic and they are too busy chatting and being rude to customers to be efficient. Waitress was rude and inattentive. We were seated in a loud uncontrolled section. People literally leaned against the glass partition while we tried to eat. No manager ever went around to guests. The waitress never addressed my husbands birthday or made any attempt to acknowledge it. A guest knocked into the waitress who (for the second time that day according to her) caused her to lose control of tray with drinks. These drinks spilled into my seat (booth) and all over myself and glass broken at my feet with small scratch. I HAD to address the waitress if I could get some napkins to dry my seat, remove the ice all over, and dry my dress. Her response without even looking back at me " Oh I took the majority of the wine you are fine". Never helped or offered to reseat us and nor replace our food that was affected. She never came to refill drinks or offer anything more. I asked 4 times if my husbands birthday would be addressed and ignored. Our food was packed up with no acknowledgment and finally I asked again in front of my husband if I could order a crรจme brulee to share with him for his 50th birthday we were celebrating. She brought it out and stated she added a slice of cheesecake for his birthday for him ( I was charged for this!). I have been unable to reach out to speak to management as the hostess blocks this request. She states he is busy and if she can take a message. I ask to leave number for call back and ask his name and she responds "______ will reach out to you" (not manager and not male). This is absolutely the worst experience and worst service and absolutely no way to get to speak to a manager in regards to their service. The food was delicious but the experience ruined our night and my husbands special 50th birthday celebration :(
Be the first to ReplyFood and Service Quality has PLUNGED
For many, many years, Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu has been our "go to" place for birthdays and anniversaries, or just a nice night out, but the quality of the food and service has taken a deep plunge since the pandemic. We hoped it would pass, and have celebrated our last few special events at CUT in Beverly HIlls instead, to give Mastros a chance to get back up to their usual level of excellence. Tonight, our family went back to Mastros to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. It was a mistake. The problems started the moment we walked in. The place was mobbed, and only one hostess was on duty and seemed utterly overwhelmed. The waiting area was stuffed with people. Clearly, staffing and organization was an issue. We were led to our table... not the one we'd requested in our reservation (or even in the same part of the restaurant we asked for). In fact, it was where we specifically asked NOT to be. Alas, they told us they had no other available tables. The waiter asked if we wanted the bread basket. We told him we did, but only the sourdough and cheesebread...not the pretzel bread. Usually, when we ask for this, we get extra sourdough or cheesebread to make up for it. So what did we get? A basket with pretzel bread. When we mentioned this, he took the pretzel bread out, stuck it in another basket, and gave us the our basket. The sourdough was hard and dry...and the cheesebread was so cold, we wondered if perhaps it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. When our menus came, we opened them up, and CRUMBS DRIBBLED OUT! It was disgusting. For God's sake, open the menus and shake the crumbs out before giving them to your diners. We ordered our food... I asked for my steak medium, and my wife asked for dijon mustard with hers. When our steaks arrived, hers was delivered without the mustard and mine was medium RARE. I sent my steak back. In the meantime, our sidedishes came, scalding hot -- which is fine and expected. Except the waiters just left the pans on our table -- they didn't serve us our initial portions, like they usually do. So we served ourselves, but I burned myself doing it. My family continued eating while I waited for my steak (my wife had to ask two more times for her mustard, btw). Meanwhile, my daughter had to keep telling waiters not take our butter away (I guess because we were finished with the bread, they couldn't comprehend why we might want to keep the butter), Why were they so intent on taking the butter? They tried three more times to take it away. Was the butter putting us in danger? Was there a desperate need for our butter back in the kitchen? I finally had to say "Go away. Leave the butter alone." The waitress came back with my steak... which was overcooked and flavorless. The seasoning was seared right off...so it was a good thng I had the butter to melt on top! I've had bad service at Mastros before, but this was the first time I've ever had a bad steak. She came back a few minutes later and asked me how it was -- I lied, and said it was fine, because i didn't want to kill the celebration by making a scene out of this (though both my wife and daughter commented on how bad the service has become). On top of that, all the waiters seemed to have stained clothes, crooked ties, or misbuttoned or ill-fitting coats. Our daughter even joked that they must want to save money here on dry cleaning. Not a good look for a supposedly high-end restaurant. This isn't Bobby's diner. I know the wait staff gets dirty, of course, but come on, this is supposed to be a high-end, elegant steak-house restaurant -- give the waiters/waitresses clean shirts or fresh aprons when they stain themselves...and give them coats that fit...and ties that are straight! The place just doesn't seem special or elegant any more. It feels like a steak conveyor belt. If this had not been our anniversary, but just a nice dinner out, I would have demanded to see the manager and complained about how bad things have become. Instead, not wanting to ruin our special night, I waited until we got home, and everyone was in bed, to sent this review. It's sad to see how far this Mastros has fallen (I've dined since the pandemic at Mastros in NYC and it was great in every way). We'll be going back to CUT for our special occasions from now on.

A bit pricey (lunch was $500 including tip for 3 people) but very well worth every dollar. You just canโt beat the view, the food is the best in class and the service elevates the experience. Excellent!
Be the first to ReplyHORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SEATING: Our party of 9 was squeezed into a table that would have been tight for 8. The table had an extension which was lower than the main table. The room was VERY crowded and dangerous โ canโt believe a Fire Marshall wouldnโt have closed down the place. SERVICE: Totally inattentive. Never once asked if I wanted a refill of my soda water. Ordered my wife a Sombrero (Kaluha and cream) โ he had no idea what it was and brought it out wrong โ then argued with me. Ordered two birthday desserts โ brought the desserts, extra spoons but no extra plates. Never offered us coffee. FOOD: The Calamari appetizer and mushroom side were great. The shrimp cocktail โ served in ice but the shrimp were just about room temperature. The filet was tender but no flavor. The bone-in ribeye flavorful but extremely tough โ almost inedible. Mac and cheese nothing special. VALET: $15!!! It was 48 degrees out but they couldnโt get the heater to work!
Be the first to ReplyMastro's Ocean Club
We had dinner at Mastroโs Ocean Club in Malibu, California on November 13th to celebrate a birthday. We had been looking forward to it for a while. The service and atmosphere did not disappoint. The food was great initially too, until two people in our party got "violently ill" and two others got mildly ill. We have been trying to figure out which dishes could have caused it. Was it the side dishes (spinach, mushrooms, potatoes) or the Wagu steak, the filet, the Chilean Seabass, ??? We called Mastros Ocean Club the next day in hopes of finding the culprit. I spoke to Britnae who claimed nobody else had called in with such a complaint. She offered us a $100 credit on our $800+ dinner. Not considering this a fair solution due to the severe effects suffered that evening, we asked her to elevate this complaint to their top management (something I have never had to ask before)! After not hearing back from Britnae after 2 weeks, I called and left a voicemail. It's now 3 weeks since we spoke to her and were promised a follow up and she has not returned my phone call...so disappointing! One of the guests who became violently ill was barely able to make it home in time to avoid pulling over to vomit on the roadside. Another guest was up all night with diarrhea and vomiting. The other two guests had stomach aches for the remainder of the evening. Even into the beginning of the next day nobody felt normal. This had to have been food poisoning. Almost as awful as the food poisoning is the silence from Mastroโs Ocean Club! As I said, Britnae promised to follow up with us but never did and has not even returned my follow up phone call. We have been coming to this restaurant for special occasions for years but after this experience we will definitely be forgoing it in the future.
Be the first to ReplyBad from beginning to end
What a huge disappointment! The steaks were either tough or served cold. It took more than hour to receive our second course after the first course. Even the parmesan crisps were cold and rubbery. I have eaten at Mastros restaurants for many years and this restaurant was memorable for all the wrong reasons. We will not return.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Dining Experience
I was invited by a vendor to attend a dinner here. The view is stunning of the ocean while we dined, and the piano entertainment has an absolute amazing voice. The waitress was incredibly knowledgable with the menu and made some off-menu recommendations. We had the calamari, mac and cheese and tuna appetizers. I wished I could have had the mac and cheese. It looked absolutely out of this world and the table said it was tasty but I cannot do cheese. I had the grilled sea bass, which was out of this world. The table ordered several sides, with the garlic mashed potatoes which were tasty, as well as the creamed spinach dish and sauteรฉd asparagus. For dessert we had their signature warm butter cake which was so tasty I wanted to order one to go. The dining atmosphere is amazing and the service and wait staff are top-notch. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyCould Not Have Been Better!
Booked a reservation for last Saturday evening, party of six, to celebrate my wife's birthday. Had to be the BEST table in the house. Back of the restaurant, right along the window. Fantastic view! The ocean is twenty feet away! Everyone was in awe. Service was impeccable, and the food & beverage was amazing. Our server was (I believe) Anna. She was AMAZING! Friendly, knowledgeable, expert in her craft, gorgeous and patient. We are still talking about her two days later. Just the best. Everything from arrival to departure was flawless. Thank you Mastro's for an UNFORGETTABLE evening! We WILL be back.

Awesome seafood restaurant located in Malibu overlooking the ocean, beautiful view specially at sunset, specious, elegant, suitable for large group or special occasions. We have ordered entrรฉe, soup, salad, main course all sea food and sweet, it's was perfectly cooked and presented so delicious. Professional service, helpful and friendly. All staff were well dressed. Mid to high price. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyFANTASTIC view, amazing food, exceptional service
Our favorite place to eat for special occasions. Amazing location, impeccable service, best steaks on the planet. We love it.
Be the first to ReplyNice experience in a very tiring day.
I went for lunch without reservation around 2.45 pm. We had no reservation it was me and my aunt. Both tired of unbelievable and draining traffic along the coast highway. We could not find parking anywhere near we originally were planning to go. We arrived tired and very hungry. Thanks to Anastasia the front hostess she was king to seat us. The food was great and the ambiance was super nice.

Came here for my birthday and was so disappointed. The food was sub par at best. The service was nothing you would expect from an upscale restaurant, The venue is tired and rundown.
Be the first to ReplyPlace is a Disaster - Just an expensive Chain Delivering Low End Experiences
Was once a well run high end restaurant near Malibu. Now nothing more than a volume oriented chain. Front of house (hostess check in, table assignments, phone reservations) are run by high school teenagers with no knowledge or care as to who are long standing customers (individuals or corporate events).
Recent experience - December 2021:
- Had a reservation booked on Open Table 3 weeks in advance for 5 people
- Arrived on time and checked in with hostess on time
- Waited 1 hour for first table, tried to give us a booth set for 4, while 5 on our reservation. Refused table and hostess rolled her eyes and stormed off and said no other tables are available. Pointed out I see two other tables empty. She said those are "reserved".
- Witnessed people giving cash tips to hostesses for better tables. Clearly this is what drove tables being assigned and "reserved".
_ Finally after being guilted and shammed for refusing the first table they gave us a table able to sit 5 people.
Don't waste your time or money. Many more better options at high end restaurants (with an ocean view as well) especially for good customers.
Question for the Mastro's chain or owner Landrys chain- Have you studied the initial customer greeting/check in experience for other high end brands like a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton where the customer is about to spend thousands of dollars with your brand or has a history in the past of doing so? Your company fails at this!
BTW, no COVID rules being followed either. Clearly in violation of LA County protocols.
I have no motive to write this review other than highlight the facts of a bad experience. Reservation verification and paid receipt available for verification.
So so
For the price I expect lobster bisque to have lobster in it. Lobster bisque served cold. Steak awesome. Sides awesome. Lobster tail on side was cold, drawn butter cold. Male bathroom trashed, pee all over the seats and urinals. For high end bathroom you would expect clean bathrooms. staff super friendly and attentive. Cheesecake not good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, excellent service, gorgeous view!
This location offers the same delicious food as the other Mastros (especially Beverly Hills and Thousand Oaks which are both my favorites) except the setting inside and out here cannot be beaten.
Excellent service all around with informed and attentive servers and floor staff. The menu is just as filled with tremendous options as the other locations. The tables mostly face the large windows that overlook the Pacific Coast. Nighttime lighting could be adjusted down a bit as the glare otherwise cancels out the gorgeous surfside view. The fish options are so good here especially the Sea Bass. You'll land around $300 for two with two starters, two entrees, two drinks. Not a fan that they charge $5 for a bread basket especially when paying $50-75 for an entree. Even Cheesecake Factory offers free bread LOL!
They offer a $15 valet (thankfully that accepts credit cards as I no longer use cash). Be sure to make a reservation as this place gets booked up quickly especially on the weekends.
Consistently great food in upscale atmosphere. Could handle food allergies better.
Our group enjoyed two great dinners at Mastro's Ocean Club in Malibu in July 2020, one indoors and one in the outdoor tent. Both had fabulous ocean views and consistently fabulous steaks and seafood. It is difficult to find a better steak because of the high quality beef and dry rub preparation. The food tastes exactly the same (great) at every Mastro's location in which we have dined. My only suggested improvement is that in early July, our server easily accommodated one member of the group's request for gluten free and vegetarian options; in late July, our server never heard those terms and essentially advised we should eat someplace else. Yes, it's a steak and fish house, but any server should know how to handle a properly communicated food allergy. Servers like that get weeded out by a good operation and it will not stop us from enjoying another Mastro's location later this month.
Be the first to ReplySnobs A disaster!
Mastroโs Malibu treatment of guests does not justify the $500 ticket for three. Seating was abysmal. The front desk is a disaster. We arrived early to our reservation with all tables empty but were first seated in the back against a wall and upon complaint seated next to the kitchen. I go to Mastroโs in Beverly Hills, Costa Mesa and Newport. Never been treated this bad. Malibu Oceanclub is a disaster. Never again.
Be the first to ReplyKnow How To Reserve Your Table!!!
Our son had made the reservation for 5 people for a family celebration many weeks in advance and confirmed it repeatedly when contacted. He is not experienced and didn't ask for a plan and specify an area or table. We were seated by the kitchen door with a view of the wall. Seriously? A restaurant of this category shouldn't even have a table there! I politely but firmly told them that I didn't fly in to pay for this and that we'd rather leave than accept it. After a wait of 20 minutes we were seated by the ocean front. The service was great and the food met admittedly high expectations. We dropped $ 800.00 that night and we have no regrets - but this could have easily turned into a disaster and that shouldn't be for such a restaurant. Do away with that table! It gives you a bad name.
Be the first to ReplyResting On Your Laurels?
Made an early reservation at this beautiful restaurant. The front desk is very disorganized. We waited about 30 minutes after checking in. The area we were seated at outside next to a tent was not at all full, so waiting couldnโt even be justified with that. Our waitress had ridiculously fake eyelashes, I felt a breeze every time she blinked. We had a wine question, her answer was effortlessly uneducated. She didnโt make any recommendations on the food. Our drinks were served by someone else, our food delivered by another, our empty plates were ignored while she was at the table then proceeded to instruct a colleague to clear them. The table dressing were the only thing high end. I would like to try a different location because the meal quality was good.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic View and Food
We sat at a table against the window with a view of the crashing waves as we watched the sunset with wine. Absolutely one of the best views while dining. Prices are a little on the expensive side, but the food is excellent.
