Manager is incredibly rude
The food is great - the management is horrible. We went for a birthday dinner with a party of 6. At 1 hour and 40 minutes we were asked to leave, because we had been there longer than 1 hour and 15 min. Nowhere on the reservation or the website does it state a time limit on the table. We ordered several appetizers, multiple rounds of drinks, 6 meals, and 2 desserts. Our total bill was over $500 and we were asked to leave. After talking to the manager, he was indifferent about there not being a posted time limit. We were a quiet, easy table, spending quite a bit of money. We will absolutely not be back, and would have picked a different place to enjoy a birthday dinner with friends had we known. When we said “we will not be coming back” he simply said “that’s fine”.

Front end manager was rude, arrogant, self absorbed , racist and unpleasant to I Tera t with Unfortunate as other staff members seemed nice
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, very casual atmosphere
The food was good but the atmosphere was not. The bar looks like a Halloween decoration, not very comfortable, very much like a sports bar. I was expecting something more upscale.

Group of 6 people. We all ordered off the restaurant week menu but the bill had every item billed separately off the menu. They refused to separate the bill will allow you to use up to 4 credit cards.. they add a credit card processing, 25% gratuity and tax. Service was poor. Never refilled our carafe of water or even asked if we would like to order more drinks. Sushi was average, burned bao buns. The churros were good. Service level was worthy of 25%.

I ordered 2 sushi rolls take out. They were great and the staff was very friendly while I waited. They set me up with everything I needed.

The food was great but the service wasn't great. The hostess was less than personable. Dead weight...she was like a wet noodle. The waitress was great once she finally arrived at our table. The place is small so it shouldn't have taken so much time to get our waitress to get to our table. Over all because the food was good...it was just an ok experience. When we left..we said good bye to the hostess and she never looked up. November 7th around 630.

We stayed at the Hyatt Place Hotel and this was connected so we tried it for drinks. The servers/bartenders were great and the prices weren’t bad. We didn’t eat any food except for dessert. The churros and ice cream sandwich were amazing! So worth it!!

What a unique experience at Mesu. The first restaurant we’ve been to that combined sushi and Mexican food. From the sushi rolls to the taco salad and ranch waters. Everything was amazing! Service was excellent and left us wanting for nothing. We would definitely visit again!
Be the first to ReplyFun upbeat king st restaurant with excellent food and drinks.
Lauren was awesome! She had great recommendations and explained the tequila pairings very well. Our food was excellent, service was quick and the Nutella churro donuts were what dreams are made of! :)

We couldn't find anywhere else to eat a quick bite late at night and this was part of our Hyatt hotel. Service was fine and the food was not terrible - I had so-so cheese quesadilla while my wife had guac and chips plus a fish taco. However, our clothes stank of stale grease when we left.

This place was just ok. Food wasn’t anything extraordinary and the cocktail list was underwhelming. Service was slow on a non crowded night, and the only napkins available were paper aka there was trash everywhere. We were very excited at the prospect of eating here, and were left disappointed. We also said we were celebrating multiple birthdays on our open table reservation, and nothing was offered to us.
Be the first to ReplyMexican and Sushi - What More Could You Want?1
We loved this restaurant - it has a very fun/lively vibe and good food. We went there for dinner, and I had a taco and a suhi roll for dinner, what more could you want! AJ was our server, and he was great! Both the taco and the sushi were really good. I had the veggie taco and the Mesu roll and cannot recommend enough I would definitely make a reservation if you want to eat here for dinner. We had one and I'm glad we did as they had to turn away anyone who came in without a reservation. It's a very popular place. The atmosphere is awesome - great artwork on the walls, fun light fixtures, great music and sometimes feels like a club. It was a lot of fun. Their signature cocktails were disappointing, so I recommend ordering your usual drink or doing the make your own margarita.

On our first night in Charleston, we decided to walk to Mesu from our hotel. During our walk, the skies opened up and we only had one umbrella. i walked into the restaurant soaked. We asked our waiter if the restaurant sold shirts and the manager came over and said " I've got you covered". He went in the back and gave me a dishwasher's restaurant shirt. I was so grateful not to be wearing a wet shirt during dinner. The dinner was fabulous. We both had tacos and they were terrific. What a great way to start our "Foodie Tour" of Charleston.

Went with a group and we were very pleased. We got terrific service from Rachel. We were seated early for our reservations and quickly got a pitcher of margaritas. The tortilla chips were flavored and delicious (accompanied by gucamole and hot sauce). The appetizer of corn was very good. The entree choices of sushi and a variety of tacos were outstanding. Would certainly recommend and return.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and great atmosphere.
Loved the tacos. No heavy sauces like so many cheap Mexican restaurants. Good service at reasonable prices.

We had a reservation and were seated at the counter right next to the bar. Our counter was dirty and there was a rubber bar mat for discarded drink glasses at my seat. Water that had been sitting at the hostess stand was brought to us upon being seated. The server gave us a hard time bringing fresh water glasses. Server was inattentive. The place was loud, and the counter seating was awful. The food was decent. If we had been treated better, we would have ordered drinks and appetizers. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Great combo of Mexican and sushi. Great margaritas too! We had several appetizers. All yummy! Great stop on King Street

Mesu never disappoints. The sushi is so flavorful and delicious. The nachos are filling and always the best. Also, the service is always divine.

Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner
Was at this really fun and a little quirky place with a group of 12 on an already busy night. Their menu (Mexican and Sushi) was a total delight. I went with the sushi as ou server aid the get it shipped in daily and “36 hours ago it was swimming in the ocean.” It was actually fantastic. Serving a big group can be difficult, but they made it look simple. I’d love to go back and highly recommend it to anyone.

lil sexy mexican sushi fusion spot. the idea alone gave me a little anxiety but i went mexi and my chicken taco was on point... my PALOMESU was even better.
love the vibe and the original singed Shepard Fairey artwork everywhere is totally my scene. apparently it’s the owners collection.
Great fun, Great Service
After a long day of touring and shopping in Charleston, we were tired, sweaty and hungry. Luckily, we had a reservation at Mesu. From our first step in the door, we were delighted. We were met with a big hello and immediately shown to our table. Our server helpfully guided us through the menu, a mix of Mexican and Sushi cuisines. Sounds strange? Not at all- somehow it worked perfectly and everyone was pleased with their choices. The appetizer with guacamole , queso and salsa with chips was a perfect start. Both the Fish and Chicken tacos were big hits. The Nachos were outrageous and the portion size was enough to feed three or four people. All in all, this is a winner!

Excellent service and food. We had the chip trio (fire roasted salsa) and the pork nachos. Both were so good, freshly prepared, crisp warm chips and huge serving. Small house margarita was perfect The place is small but we made a reservation and had the perfect table. Our waitress was great. I think her name was Arianna (sp). Would definitely return

Loved it here! The queso, pork tacos, street corn, crab rangoon roll, and margaritas were bomb! The atmosphere also was super fun!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
Really enjoyed our meal at Mesu tonight! The unique idea of Mexican and Sushi in one restaurant is a fun one. Really enjoyed the chips and queso, as well as the street corn app. the crab rangoon sushi was a different, but enjoyable twist on traditional sushi. the best item we had was the carnitas pork taco. a cross between a taco and empanada! So so good! Staff was knowledgeable and attentive and working hard on this busy sunday night. The hostess, Courtney, was amazing and she alone makes me want to return! Next time in Charleston, we will be back to try more items at Mesu!!!
