Mikuni has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants in
Mikuni has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Sacramento ever since the opening of the original one in Folsom. Things you will always find consistently the same at every Mikuni sushi restaurant are: high quality food, exceptional customer service and a welcoming ambiance. The Iron Chef and Lucky 7 combo plates that I had ordered were delicious. The freshness of the fishes was just okay and it wasn't the freshest (thus a 4 star). Everything else about the food was exceptional: the portion size of each nigiri to the rice per roll ratio. The prices on their menu are fair if you take everything into factor. The service was on point during my visit. The waiter made it a habit to frequently check-in with my table. Overall, I was pleased with my dine-in experience at the Mikuni (Elk Grove). It is definitely one of the better sushi restaurants in town and in Sacramento if you're ever looking for good sushi.

Be the first to ReplyAwesome garlic edamame and really fresh sushi.
Fun atmosphere and great wait staff. Always a win in my book
Be the first to ReplyI love Mikuni, we usually go to the one off Hazel.
We were on our way home from visiting family so we stopped at this location. There was a 20 minute wait which was not bad for a Sunday. They sat us in an isolated booth near the restrooms, there were no tables next to us. We have kids so we actually appreciated this. I didn't realize we would get subpar service and be completely forgotten. It took our server longer than usual to greet us and when he did he said, "I'll be with you in 5 minutes, I'm busy with all my other tables," and then he walked away. Umm ok, thanks. A while later he comes back and we order or sushi and bento boxes for out kids. The bento boxes came out from the kitchen after maybe 5-10 minutes, it was quick. The kids were about done eating their food and our sushi was nowhere in sight. We didn't see our server for a long while. We didn't time it exactly because we weren't expecting to not get our food timely. If we had to guess, it was about 30-40 minutes after our kids received their bento boxes and we received our sushi. Even my 6 year old noticed and asked a few times where our food was. We think our server FINALLY remembered us and our order because he ran to the kitchen and didn't even look at us. He came back a couple of minutes later with our food and said, "sorry for the wait, I got held up with another of my tables." There was a point where I was standing near our table trying to make contact with our server when the sushi chef asked if HE could help me with anything. Terrible service. It was disappointing. We are regulars (Hazel location) and we always receive great service. You really need to hire servers that are able to manage their time between their tables so they can offer good service.

We ordered the teriyaki salmon, chicken Katzu, and sesame chicken. All of them were overcooked and dry like chewing cardboard. Also ordered the Chirashi. One of the worst sushi rice I have ever had. Sashimi was cold and tasteless. Will not go back. Will not go back.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for lunch with a friend on a weekend.
It wasn't busy so we were seated immediately. We ordered the sushi illustrated combo and a James roll. The sushi illustrated combo comes with half a shrimp zig zag roll, fair oaks roll, and midtown roll.Shrimp zig zag roll was interesting since it comes with a soy wrap instead of seaweed. It tasted alright. But it was definitely more bland and dry than the other rolls we had as it does not come with any sauces on it. The fair oaks roll was basically a better version of the shrimp zig zag roll. It comes with plenty of sauces and garnish. Midtown roll is the only raw roll in the combo. It's very tasty and comes with a decent amount of fish. The James roll we had high hopes for since it is a $24 roll. Luckily, it did not disappoint, it definitely was the best tasting roll. It was really big and filled with almost everything you could think of that would be in a sushi roll. Overall the food was tasty but definitely on the pricier side since it is sushi after all. Service was really slow even though it was not busy at all.
Be the first to ReplyMikuni has delicious sushi and appetizers.
The food and service is somewhat inconsistent, sometimes delicious and fast and friendly. Sometimes, good, slow and adequate. We have never had a horrible experience, but between adequate and amazing every time.

Mikuni continually has such great quality of food, I'm honestly shocked I have not reviewed sooner. I tend to be picky with my sushi and don't enjoy just any tuna sashimi but I absolutely love the fish quality here. The rolls, appetizers and cooked food is always great here. It can get very busy here so be mindful you might have to wait a while during busy times. Personally, I think it's worth it. Service is always prompt and I find myself coming back time and time again! Personal faves: Marilyn Monroll, Tuna Sashimi and the deep fries gyoza!

Came out here for family dinner early 5PM - good thing we did since this place does not take reservations. Their outgoing message stated first come first serve only - no Reservations. Our waiter was courteous and friendly. He got our order right and I love how they have separate gluten-free menu!! Place is clean and very busy on Saturday night! Ambiance was awesome. Overall, great service and food!! Sashimi was fresh and tasty. Miso soup and tea super hot - just like how I like it!

Atmosphere is pleasant and drinks are good too!

I always love Mikunis and this is the 2nd time I've been to the location in EG! Brought my very picky Asian mother here and she loved it so that's always a good sign. The truffle sashimi is divine and so are the other rolls as usual. But I will say, the mango cheesecake- that was the lasting impression! Can't wait to go back!

One of my favorite sushi spots in Northern California, especially because of their gluten-free menu. They even have tamari sauce in lieu of soy sauce. Everything I've ordered from here has been delicious.
Be the first to ReplyReally mediocre sushi.
Slow service. Messed up our drinks often. Nothing super impressive. Probably will not be going back here.
Be the first to ReplyHad an awesome lunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday.
The service was good and the food was delicious. We ordered a tan tan raman, chirashi don and sesame chicken bento. The kids enjoyed it. The best part is to get to spin the wheel for a prize.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service, I think waiter forgot our order.
Appetizers are way too pricey for the amount of food you get. Sushi was adequate but definitely nothing to write home about.

Be the first to ReplyAn amazing experience.
Our server Tong (spelling?) was amazing. We had a massive party and it was a lot of folks first time here. Exceeded expectations! Very patient either the millions of requests we had. Also, extremely accurate. Remembered everyone's prefer to the T. He was extremely efficient. My party of 23 all talked about how great the service was after we left. Promote this man. definitely coming back. Also, it goes with saying, the food is always on point!!! Great quality!

The food here is amazing as a standard and the staff is attentive and we'll dressed. The food presentation is attractive and nicely placed. They have really spacious tables and plenty of TVs to see the latest news and sports. A beauty!!!
Be the first to ReplyJapanese fusion with sophistication is what you'll get at
Japanese fusion with sophistication is what you'll get at Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. It seems to be a popular spot for celebrations, date nights and the like. Our party of 3 arrived around 6pm on a Sunday evening and waited about a half hour to be seated. We had a table in the back room away from the main dining room. It was nice and quiet enough so that we could enjoy some good conversation. I'd never been here before, but it is apparently the place to be. Their menu is quite extensive. They do have the QR Code option, but I'm old school and like to look at an actual hand-held menu. It's full of everything from appetizers to main dishes and of course the drinks. I let my dining companions order away as they are regulars here and everything they got was reeeeeeally good. I also chose to order a Salmon Skin Hand Roll, some Yellowtail and Salmon Sashimi. I really wanted a plain Salmon Hand Roll but was told they don't make them...whaaaaa?! But...isn't this a SUSHI place?! =OI was in slight shock, but the Salmon Skin kind of made up for it. It came neatly bundled up and I have to say, it was a good one. I've had some that leaked oil at the end, but this one didn't have that problem. Hooray!! The skin was nice and crispy. I ate the whole thing with probably 5 bites. The Calamari appetizer was a good way to start the meal. I'm not sure if it had jalapeños or shishito peppers on top, but dipping it in the sauce that came along for the ride was what made the little fried rings POP!! I think I'd go there just for the Calamari alone! The Garlic Edamame is always a must have, and Mikuni has theirs down pat. You NEED to get them to munch on as you wait for your food. The rolls (I can't remember what the names were, they have so many and my dining companions ordered them) are not only pretty to look at, they are scrumptious! The one with the sauce will have your eyes drooling before your mouth. We also shared the Stuffed Mushrooms and those things could be a meal by itself! The sashimi was excellent. If you're a sushi connoisseur you can always tell if it's fresh or not and this place delivers! The Dragonberry Mojito served in a pitcher was a good decision. It was a refreshing treat on a warm summer evening and a bit more cost effective for a party of 3 vs. individual glasses (per our server, thanks for the tip!).Prices are on the higher side here, but it's not a hole in the wall so you get what you pay for. Service with a smile, yummy eats and drinks and a good time earns Mikuni 4 stars in my book. Bring a regular Salmon Hand Roll on board and make reservations available and I will happily add a fifth star. For now, this is still a substantial choice if you're itching for Japanese in the Elk Grove area. Plenty of parking in the huge lot. Stop by and try it out!
