Hard to know where to begin, except at the beginning. I have been eating at Millenium since they were on McAllister street in San Francisco, I lived up the hill on McAllister. I followed them to the hotel location in downtown San Francisco, and then to the current Oakland location. I have spent most of my birthdays having dinner with friends here, including this past May and again in July with a friend. I booked reservations as my good friend was in town from Australia and I wanted to take her some place special. We were seated 30 mins late as I can't sit on the high top tables as I have a disability. So we were fine waiting. We got a table right next to kitchen door, the outside door in kitchen was open, we noticed it at the bar as it was so cold. The back door to the patio was tied open, outside was 48 degrees, it was a wind tunnel and freezing. As we walked to our table a guy from the kitchen walked out and said aye aye aye more people in Spanish. I was taken aback and felt quite unwelcome. The noise coming out of the kitchen was intense. I have sat at this spot before and it was not like this. The plates at our table were wet and mine had a short black hair on it. The service was so bad, the person who was our server had no idea how to manage a table, appetizer plates just left in front of us when main was delivered. We were never offered a drink by our server. She was sweet but really had zero clue how to serve. The food, now the appetizers were just bad, my friends soup was cold and had 5 chunks of potato and about 2mm deep of broth. She sent it back and they had heated it up, it had barely any flavor. My salad was listed as persimmon and onion salad, two tiny slices of persimmon and a mile high pile of radichio which was so bitter, on the side was supposed to be flat bread, instead there was this giant chunk of stale brown bread, so dry it was like a rock, no exaggeration, you could not even get a knife into it. I asked a guy walking by if this was supposed to be this. way, he disappeared came back 5 mins later with two pieces of flat bread some oil and vegan butter on the side, soft and warm. He said it's supposed to be like that and vanished. It was not even the same bread that had come on my plate. There were some items on the menu not available as they had run out, we wondered if they had run out of our appetizers, as it just felt like the dregs. When our mains came we had them box it up along with desserts and we left, as we were both freezing, and both wearing coats, it was so loud and service appalling. We finished our meal at my warm home, the mains were good and desserts were good. It was fixe pre $65 each, I was so upset by this experience that I will not be back. The table of six behind us, started talking to us and they had the exact same experience, all had never been before and they said they would never come back. I thought about contacting Eric Tucker directly and not posting on social media, but I think people need to know about bad experiences. For the price I expect better, a lot better.
