Good Golly, Miss Ollies!
During the year of COVID, it's hard to fine places to dine. Luckily, most of the restaurants at Swan's Market, Oakland, have outside seating. I love Miss Ollies, for the food as well as the welcoming attitude of the staff. In less than a week, I ate here twice, partly because one staff member makes a killer rum punch. The Caribbean rice and beans and the fried plantains are delicious. I highly recommend the curried goat and hope to return for the oxtails. I will say, however, the majority of the local customers were ordering the skillet-frid chicken. I'd say "the skillet-fried chicken was flying out the door"--but no, I better not.
By the way, this is a Black Owned Business.
Anthony Bourdain said yes. We do too.
This place was in an Anthony Bourdain episode. He loved their fried chicken. Delicious! The fried chicken was perfectly cooked--juicy and a wonderful hardy and crispy batter. The garlic oil fried plantians were wonderful, you really taste the garlic when they come out hot and get sweeter as they cool off. They don't advertise it, but the fried chicken is gluten free! You'd never know! And the garlic oil fried plantains are done with infused oil, so safe for any garlic/onion fodmap type intolerance!

The fried chicken was great, the doughnut holes were even better. You get big portions for the price. We all received 4 big pieces of chicken. It was greasy and salty, but that brought out the flavor, and itโs fried food.

My friends told m e that I have to try Miss Ollie's. and I am telling everyone: Must stop by in Oakland and support the local restaurant. Hands Down!
Be the first to ReplyIt was cool
We stopped in here. As it was next to our hotel. The food was cool. Plantains had a weird garlic sauce on them. Must be Bajan-style. However, had the lamb, beef, and chicken patties, along with some potato salad, and it was really good. Very good & diverse selection of rum at the bar as well. It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but it got crowded while we ate. Food also came out very fast!

At a friendโs recommendation, we had dinner at Ms. Ollieโs. I was craving fried chicken so I was told this was a solid spot. Overall, the experience was about 3.5 stars. Letโs break it down. Chicken: 4 stars...amazing! It was crispy, moist, and hit the spot! Service...2.5 stars. The staff were nice and helpful. But the flow seemed a little disjointed. My friend said that they used to have table service and, now, you order your food and drinks in the front and then sit down. Luckily, we got there before the line double in size almost out the door. Feels like they are still figuring it out. Tables were dirty and service was inconsistent. My friend ordered his food right after me and his food didnโt come till after about 30min after my food arrived. Lastly, atmosphere: 4 stars. If you are looking for a casual place to eat with a friend or group, this is a decent choice. Just be ready to wait!

Amazing fresh fried chicken. The fry has a real clean taste with an incredible light tang from some kind of vinegar or citrus (maybe both). I don't even like fried chicken, but I would eat here every day if I lived or worked near by! If only they opened Sundays! And the plantain. Nearly forgot to rave about these huge, filling, fritters, that have the same great batter as the chicken. Thank you!

Having grown up in Louisiana, I'm always wary of places claiming to have creole or Cajun cuisine, which are not precisely the same thing but, perhaps, close enough for most people. I'm more familiar with Cajun, so Miss Ollie's offered some new things for me to try, all of it amazing.
And the corn fritters were just like the hush puppies my grandmother used to make when I was a kid, so that was really great.
Despite how good all of the food was, the creole doughnuts still stole the show. You could go in just for those and not be disappointed. Authentic dough nuts fried, spiced, and sugared. You can't go wrong.
Great spot
I went there and had a great time. I had the fried chicken which was delicious as well as a cocktail. The service was great, as well as the location and the price was reasonnable

This was the worst dinner experience Iโve had in a long time. We ordered for delivery at 8:30pm. I rang the venue repeatedly, each time they said it was almost finished... Our order finally turned up 1.5 hours later at 10pm (and itโs Wednesday night! Who the hell us busy on Wednesday?!). The food was both mediocre and a total rip off. We paid $30 and got 2 pieces of jerk chicken and a micro-tub of collard greens - look st the photo. The greens were disgustingly overcooked and totally inedible. The chicken was supposed to be jerk chicken but it tasted like plain grilled, ie zero spice/flavor. So we paid $30 for what youโd get for under $10 at any fried chicken joint in the US, and it took 90 minutes. Our night was ruined. The woman on the phone kept telling us that the delivery was on its way, and then weโd keep waiting. These people suck. Donโt go.
