1. I booked a table in advance for New Year’s Eve and of course I checked out the wine list online and chose a couple possibilities. Imagine my surprise when I was presented a different wine list in the restaurant that included very expensive wines (some $600+). Classic bait and switch. This contributed to our $420 bill for three people (one $72 bottle of wine).
2. The blaring disco music was very annoying. A little too edgy. We asked the staff repeatedly to turn it down, but they didn’t, presumably not wanting to disappoint other diners who apparently prefer Gloria Gaynor to conversation. The screaming child at the next table could actually be heard over the music.
3. The amuse-bouches were tiny, à la mode français. The waitperson (a star added for her) was very knowledgeable about the multitude of obscure ingredients in each morsel. How could something that small contain so much?
4. I ordered the veal trio, two-thirds of which was excellent, but the other third was thymus glands or pancreas, something I’d never tried before (sweetbreads - not sweet, not bread) and will never order again.
5. Loved the mille feuille, so there’s a plus, although halfway through I crunched down on something that wasn’t feuille-like.
6. Overall, it wasn’t the memorable holiday dinner we were all hoping for.
