Great fresh prepared food.
We frequently take-out Mitsunobu. Love their food. Always fresh and delicious. It's our family's go-to Japanese restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyOur favorite sushi restaurant in the Peninsula!!!
Our favorite sushi restaurant in the Peninsula!!! Authentic, very fresh and incredibly amazing food. It's been a while since we ate at the restaurant as we're always doing take-out due to our busy schedule. But we're so glad we were able to meet up with friends the other night. We've forgotten how the food is even more amazing dining in. And the whole experience and overall presentation. Highly recommend this Silicon Valley gem!!

First thing I wanna say is a big thank you to our server and to the restaurant for being accommodating to us although we were about 15 minutes late for our reservation. To be honest, I wanted to love this place. But the inner decor and ambiance left a lot to be desired :( I would've loved if they even had some music playing or something, but all we could hear was the AC compressor whining throughout our meal... The food was also very uninspiring. The first two courses of the dinner kaiseki were good; I loved the salmon soup and the seared dish with the smoke. The sea bass didn't taste like anything, just like boiled fish. The wagyu hot pot sounded super appetizing, but it turned out to taste like shaking beef boiled in tempura sauce. My partner ordered their omakase as the 2nd dinner kaiseki wasn't prepared like I had asked when I called earlier in the day the first course was lovely, the rest of the omakase came out on one plate: the seared pieces were good, but the fresh pieces were warmer than expected and just okay. I will say the meal ended strongly with dessert, the matcha tiramisu was lovely, and the yuzu cheesecake was also delightful. Once again, lovely service, our server was attentive and wished me a happy birthday. I just wish the rest of the meal was up to the same standard.

Delicious food and great packaging of takeaway order as well. Price is right. Do order online ahead as there is a pickup schedule you can choose from. Very professionally done. Recommended.

I wanted to LOVE this restaurant and support a local small business but in honesty, it was fairly average and there's other places we enjoy more.. not likely to return but we noticed many others were local repeats so do check it out as you may enjoy it more than us. Our favorite item was surprisingly the shrimp fried rice, which had great Unami flavor and giant chunks of shrimp. The tempura and agedashi tofu were sized reasonably but flavor was definitely below average. The tuna nigiri was very generous in portion, unlike the black cod which was fairly small. Overall we left hungry for the cost. It wasn't poor value but a mixed bag. Service was friendly and food was prompt. It's a small restaurant and cozy. Plenty of parking in the strip mall. Reservations were easy via OpenTable.

As I was looking for a kaiseki restaurant, I came across this restaurant that offers a kaiseki tasting menu! Booked a reservation on Opentable. Restaurant contacted me a couple days before to confirm our reservation and offered the kaiseki tasting menu, which has to be selected in advance. Restaurant itself is not large inside, seating about 6-7 tables with a sushi bar counter as well. Upon arriving the restaurant we were seated promptly.Food:Alaskan King Salmon Grilled Wanmono-Soup - Soup was so flavorful and the king salmon was soft, delicate, and tasty.Smoked & Torched Kyushu Kanpachi - Wow the smoky smell when uncovering the bowl of kanpachi enhanced the fish.Chawanmushi with Hokkaido Sea Urchin - So much sea urchin with some wasabi for balance, black truffle salt could be tasted with egg custard. Amazing!Steamed Alaskan Black Cod: Another delicious flaky fish with veggiesGrass-Fed Filet Mignon Sukiyaki Style: Filet mignon was tender medium rare and supplemented with veggiesOkinawa Shrimp & Kagoshima BBQ eel rice: shrimp and eel embedded within Japanese rice in an interesting shapeMaccha Tiramisu: Strong maccha flavor tiramisu and not too sweetOverall this tasting menu the food was tasty and delicious. Everything was served in unique dinnerware. I can tell that a lot of care went into the preparation of these dishes, but I am concerned about the menu price and value for what is included. I also think there could be more creativity and presentation style here that I have experienced at other restaurants that serve a similar kaiseki course.Service:Wait staff was friendly, attentive, and responsive to our requests. Because we were celebrating a special occasion the chef served us on the house a sea bass/scallop appetizer and for dessert mango mochi ice cream with green tea cheesecake.Parking:Plenty of free parking in private lot
Be the first to ReplyThis was excellent sushi and excellent hot pot and miso.
We were very impressed. Also, the place is tranquil, which is a great plus so that we can actually hear each other talking.

We ordered take out lunch online and it was ready early (via text message), hot and very tasty. The Unagi rice bowl and Chicken Teriyaki rice bowl were loaded with flavor, beautifully arranged and very satisfying. The portion sizes were perfect for lunch. Quality of the food was worth the price, particularly considering how much food costs have gone up across-the-board. I'm very happy that Mitsunobu is so close by so that we can enjoy quality Japanese cuisine all the time.

I have been hesitant to share my review of Mitsunobu for years, simply because I think it is one of the best kept secrets of the South Bay. The food is exquisite, the service kind and professional, and its quiet setting is perfect for an unforgettable meal with friends or family.

Maybe they were having a bad day, but the experience was comically bad:Suzuki was presented with meat, tofu and Brussel sprouts (?) on a dry plate. And the tofu was cold. Ramen lacked flavor and was luke warm?Salmon avocado roll is about what you'd expect from Whole Foods. They also skimped on wasabi, which is also curious because clearly it was from a jar โ Also, the price should be 3 stars.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for lunch with my husband today.
We spent like $75 on lunch. Yes that's very pricey. Food here was okay, did not seem worth the high price. I ordered sukiyaki beef and out came one of the smallest portions of sukiyaki I've ever seen. At $28 I was honestly expecting a huge pot. The beef itself was okay but quite salty! I think if they didn't let it steep in the sauce for so long (?) it would be better. The tofu, salad and miso soup were not bad. I really liked the white rice they used.My husband got the black cod. He thought it was decent but his portion size was also quite small and also $28.Service was friendly and attentive.I think we'd be open to coming back if we were really craving Japanese food and wanted something somewhat close by. But it is pretty pricey here for what you get.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience.
Definitely going back. My mom said this was the best meal of her life!
Be the first to ReplyI heard the og chef has left.
Regardless, the sushi bar isn't staffed and everything is made in the back. I believe it's trying to be new fusion but misses. Tempura shrimp roll was cut inconsistently, tempura shrimp had too much panko and not much shrimp, salmon, eel, and black cod were but a few pieces on a narrow plate with some brussel sprouts (we all ordered different fish), the four "pieces" of ice cream mochi was two whole ones cut in half. I'm sorry to be a downer and feel bad for a local business but for the $$$, there's also other Japanese restaurants to support.
Be the first to ReplyI join the very disappointed diners of this restaurant.
I had high expectations because of the previous pictures. Ramen broth lacked taste. Sukiyaki beef had the texture of beef jerky plus small portion and expensive. The salmon/avocado sushi roll was 6 cut pieces. Very expensive. Below average quantity per serving. Lacked flavor.

Very disappointed! Read a lot of good comments and nice pictures from Yelp before we decided to have dinner in this place. However I believed they might have changed the chef or even the owner, they don't serve the same menu anymore, all the nice food showed before were gone. We ordered shrimp tampura, BBQ eel and the sukiyaki beef rice. The food was not tasting bad, but it's just no more than a bento box level.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointed after our recent take out.
We have always have had impeccable meals here, pre-covid, primarily at the sushi bar. Sushi had cartilage pieces of fish, MUSHY/slimed edamame... I know it is covid but so dissatisfied. I will happily update a future review but our meal makes me very sad. Please please please correct. I think you know the problems I explained.

I live in the area and walk over 2-3 times a week for a take out. ย Their online service is very efficient and I always get a text letting me know my food is done well before the original ETA. The current menu mainly popular bento favorites and a choice selection of sushi/sashimi. The food is prepared carefully and is ready for pick up at the front door - they take great pains provide a posative contactless experience.I was late today in getting my food at lunchtime and called to ask them not to throw it away as I could drop by later. They not only worked to ensure the my food stayed fresh but added a chilled green tea as a token of appreciation. It was a nice touch especially since I was the one who was tardy in picking up my food :)! ย Please continue to support them, and our other local businesses! While I miss the kaiseki, I'm grateful for the convenience, quality, and service the new arrangement provides.

We have just started ordering take-out again and have been craving good sushi during shelter-in-place. We loved this place when we've been for the brick-and-mortar experience, and I will say, their takeout options and service was excellent. We ordered two Tomokase chirashi bowls, a grilled salmon rice bowl, and a side of Japanese pickles. Ordering and paying online was simple, and I got texts that updated me on the order status while we waited. Pick up was smooth and took into account all the coronavirus health measures (door propped open, masks, sanitizer, etc).As with our previous sit-down experiences, the sushi here is top shelf. The fish was so fresh, and even the rice tasted special from being executed perfectly. Given that Mitsunobu is typically a pricy sit-down experience, the cost for the take-away was an excellent deal. So grateful the team here is open during this challenging time. For an exceptional take-out sushi experience, Mitsunobu is the best spot in the area.

This has been a favorite of ours for awhile now and wow, they really made my (pandemic) birthday with their takeout options. I am so incredible thankful and we are already looking forward to more frequent (hopefully weekly) takeouts from this amazing restaurant. I am beyond picky when it comes to sushi and this place never disappoints! The quality is unmatched. Especially outside of San Francisco. In fact, I have two favorite omakase spots, one there (Akiko's) and one here. How lucky are we?! Thank you.
