Unprofessional Customer Service
We booked weeks ahead for a long overdue family get together, and when we made the booking we mentioned we had a child under two coming, as we know it is not appropriate for young children in all places. The day before of get together they contact us saying children under 8 not allowed! Nice one! Try finding a venue for 10 adults in Melbourne on a Friday night, let alone 10 adults and our grandson. An understandable policy let down by procedure, making this outfit appear very professional.

We loved the Viking theme and general ambience of the restaurant and couldn't fault the waiting staff, however unfortunately we were quite disappointed with the food. The wagyu sirloin was delicious but the other dishes that we ordered - burrata, charred venison, short rib and chocolate mousse - weren't memorable which was a real shame as it was our last meal in Melbourne and we wanted it to be special. We expected much more for a $300+ meal.
Be the first to ReplyHoney mead!
Mjolner was the last stop on our DIY pub crawl. It was tricky to find. Head down Hardware Street. Look for the stylized golden hammer (looks like a lopsided letter I) next to a wooden door carved with patterns. Make reservations in advance. A small horn of honey mead started us off. They have an extensive drinks menu including several Viking-themed cocktails. The drinks were good. The food was okay bit overpriced. If we went again, we'd probably just stick with booze. The staff were quick and friendly. They also gave us some knives.

I have been here today and tried a glass of Mead and Ollebrod. The food is extraordinary and the atmosphere is really characteristic. I will be back, no doubt!
Be the first to ReplyProper Viking experience
Went out here as a treat for our last meal in Melbourne. What can I say except woah. The decor was super cool and the wait staff were fully into it, this was a proper dining experience that made you feel very Nordic indeed. Highlight was our waiter unfurling a row of large knives and saying “select your weapon for the evening”. Drank some lively craft beers out of a horn too which was a plus! The food itself was delicious and full bodied. We ordered the sharing menu and it fulfilled three big hungry guys and three big hungry gals. Left feeling very satisfied. 10/10 for the food, 10/10 for the experience. We’ll be back.

What a ripoff. I have had far better pub meals for a fraction of the cost of this joint. $30 entree of bone marrow with about two teaspoons of product. All meals and drinks were over the top price-wise. The staff continually trying to upsell and encourage you to spend more money.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
A group of 5, we sat down for our dinner with anticipation! The decor is simply stunning, attention to detail has been paid to each table, and the welcome drinks are wonderful. We each ordered a la carte, starters and mains, sides to share and drinks throughout dinner. The food was lovely, although the price tag is is quite high, but we were all in good spirits and having a great time. At dessert time, things started to unravel. One of us wanted to order the ice cream sandwich, which she had had there before and absolutely loved. The waitress explained it was impossible because it was part of the set menu, and not to be had separately from that. Surprised, we confirmed we were happy to pay extra to get the dessert, and wanted to order it. Not only did this fall on deaf ears, but she replied with a derisive “absolutely not!” and walked off. Confused with this turn of events, we ordered more drinks and our friend ordered the crumble instead. No one from the managing team came to the table to talk to us, and we continued our meal with somewhat of a bitter taste in our mouths. We asked another waitress about this seemingly Impossible feat of ordering an ice cream sandwich because you have not eaten specific dishes beforehand, and she had no answer. Again, no manager came to our table to help resolve the issue. After dessert and final drinks, a new staff member came to the table to check for drinks. We asked if he was the manager, which he confirmed. We then explained the whole story, hoping to get a reasonable response, but the same thing ensured. Apparently, this ice cream sandwich is essential to the set menu only, and entices people to choose said menu, so it is impossible to dissociate it from it and offer it to patrons who wish to pay over and above for it. Now, I am no restaurant manager, but it seems to me this was a pretty poor decision. Refusing to charge more money to a group of 5 diners who have splurged all evening, showing a slight hand of dismissiveness and making them feel unwelcome, finally providing a nonsensical reason for not acceding to their request, this is definitely not hospitality, and most certainly not Viking.
Be the first to ReplyEpic Viking Disappointment
While the ambiance was epic, Viking themed, with swords and horns for drinking, you choose your weapon ( steak knife), the food was overpriced and disappointing. We started with the Gravlax and Bone Marrow, both interesting and tasty, however mains were nothing special, supposedly a Wagyu Sirloin cut, was tougher than any previous Wagyu I have ever eaten, too much gristle, $75. The Rockling with Clam chowder was our second main. While the fish itself, was cooked well , the shellfish in the chowder was rubbery. Sides were extra, $15 ea, potatoes were undercooked, not sure I appreciated the goat cheese on them, Cucumbers were crisp and refreshing, but needed seasoning, and not sure the capsicum sauce worked with the broccolini, overall disappointing. Drinks were interesting and creative, but expensive $23-$25. Service was excellent, but there is a 2 hour time limit, we were late due to parking issues which ruled out the tasting menu. Would not go again, it was a unique dining experience but food did not live up to expectations, 5 of us, $550.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic staff and delicious meat!
We went to Mjolner for our wedding anniversary. We are really into vikings, so we were excited to go. Service was fantastic, staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the food. The meat was great. I had the beef rib and it was beautiful. Sides were ok, very expensive for what they were. If your planning a night here, save up because its super pricey.
Be the first to ReplyA fabulous evening at Mjolner
A fabulous evening at Mjolner celebrating my husbands birthday. The food was amazing and the prawns were the largest I have ever seen! The waitresses were attentive and knowledgeable - they helped us select what to eat and the drinks! We were not disappointed! A bit of fun using very large knives and drinking out of horns. And a wonderful surprise for my husband was a small gift and card from the team! Thank you! We’ll definitely be back again!
