So very expensive for the amount of food.
It's insane how overpriced for the quality and quantity. We sat at the bar--drinks were great. I was so looking forward to this being a hit! I literally would never go back. And those noodles--not hype worthy!

Might be a new top contender for my favorite restaurant in Chicago. The inside is gorgeous but not overwhelming and I love that it doesn't feel too packed. Service when I've been is also great, the servers are helpful in choosing the right dishes for the mood and great drink suggestions as well. The food - top tier, the salmon belly is my favorite bite in Chicago by far. The sushi rolls are good - salmon one is the best, especially if you like wasabi. I do think I like the variety outside the sushi though as well, the zucchini is fun, spaghetti is a must and the lamb! You really can't go wrong but also grab a cocktail, they're unique fun and strong. Can't recommend enough.
Be the first to ReplyI had an amazing experience here from service, overall
I had an amazing experience here from service, overall ambiance and taste of food. We kept it fairly basic with spicy tuna and salmon avocado roll and the fried rice. Also had some nigiri that melted in our mouths. I wish I caught our servers name because she was very attentive and knowledgeable.
Be the first to ReplyFinally tried Momotaro.
We walked in and the ambience was minimal but chic. The hostess was a bit rude. She refused to acknowledge our presence. Even when she did, she was awkward. We also had to wait a bit even though we had a reservation. We were then seated and the server came to take our order. We literally had 3 different servers come to our table. It was kind of weird. Our main server was absentminded as well. Even after ordering desserts, he came and asked if we wanted desserts. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. We tried the Forbidden Murasaki and another cocktail whose name I can't recollect but it had rum, yuzu and lime. They were both really good. We ordered from the vegetarian menu which you have to ask for separately. We ordered the edamame, cucumber avocado roll and vegetable udon noodles. The edamame and cucumber avocado rolls were good, but the noodles were a bit off for me. I think I can make better noodles at home, lol. Also, they were served in a huge bowl with tons of broth. You'd think that they would give you bowls and soup spoons for the noodles, but we had to ask for them separately. The best part was the dessert. We tried the seasonal ice cream and the flavor for the season was matcha cookie dough. I never thought this combination would work, but it worked so well! I don't think I will return, as I didn't really like the service even though the food was good.

First being it is recommended to eat your food from cold to hot. Was successful in doing tIt had been a minute since I had some great sushi. Enjoyed some sake and had a late reservation. The upstairs looks very nice and will be back to try it
Be the first to ReplyHands down the BEST sushi in chicago.
I totally understand the hype with this place. The sushi is so fresh and they have an amazing selection to choose from. I was brought here for my birthday and the waiter made it so special for me. The ambiance is what I think of for a nice sushi spot, dark, mysterious, romantic. Ugh I already want to go back.

How do you reach out to a customer and then blow them off?!?! Never heard back from the General Manager!! Why bother contacting me if you cannot follow up?!?! Rude!!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good.
The restaurant's service is great. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and cool. I will back to try out more of the menu items when I am back in the city!

My companion had been here a few times before and was more than happy to come for my first time. It's a very trendy and chic place. Paul was our server and very excellent. He helped choose a nice saki and sold us the dessert. We got the duck breast, lamb, kani jomaki, momomaki, and some nigirizushi. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. It was one of those meals you just savor. I don't think you could go wrong with anything you order here. The Miso Banoffee dessert was the perfect ending. I would have no complaints about coming back either.

Groups of more than 7 people: I decided to have my birthday dinner at Momotaro because I've heard great things about it. Unfortunately, my experience here was terrible. It started with their event planning team, which I had to email to book my table since my group was bigger than 7 people. I emailed them on a Monday evening and got a response the next day in the afternoon, asking for more information. I responded within the hour, but I did not hear from them again. Two days later, I decided to email the main email address and finally got an immediate response. I was informed that groups of 8 or more were obliged to select from a fixed family-style menu. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the food selections. Upon arrival, our table setup was still incomplete. We were seated in front of the bar close to the entrance, with a pillar awkwardly dividing our group. When I requested a table adjustment, the server seemed hesitant, explaining that it will lead to space constraints and traffic issues, then said "there's nothing I can do about it; we can't move your table". I understood the spacing issue that she mentioned, but I felt that my reservations were pointless because I felt as if I walked in and asked for a table. I thought there would be a better seating arrangement in the restaurant for us because I had made a reservation. My friend got hit in the head at least 4 times by guests and servers passing between our table and the bar. There was a mat on the floor in front of the bar that someone tripped over and used my friend's head to catch themselves. It was a complete nightmare. We ordered our drinks before the first course started coming out. Four out of the five first course dishes came out, and our drinks were still not served. The bar was not full, and the tables around us were already getting their second round of drinks. When I inquired on what the remaining time was for our drinks to arrive, I received a somewhat curt response from our server, in which she said "Okay, there's (# of guests) of you here. It's going to take time." She looked frustrated; I'm not sure if the restaurant was short-staffed and she had too many tables. I only asked because I thought we would get our drinks before our next course started. At the end of the night, we asked for the bill. Our server said, "No, I can't get a final receipt; whoever booked it will get the final receipt tomorrow." We asked the manager, and he was able to get us a copy of the receipt. Also, the final bill I received through email the next day did not itemize the drinks; it just had a total amount next to the word "beverage." In conclusion, I would never want to come back here again, especially not for a big party. The food selections were okay, but I would have rather picked my own dishes to share family-style at our table. Some of my friends don't eat red and white meat, so not all the meat options were finished.

We had a beautiful family birthday celebration here recently. The drinks & food were amazing! Impeccable service and such a great atmosphere. 10/10

The rule to justify cost for a restaurant is by putting forth an effort worthy of the cost. We were footed 300 dollars for 3 people, for 1 yakitori don, 1 gyutan, 1 meatball, 6-7 pieces of sushi, and 1 tiny bottle of sake for $60. Our experience at Momotaro was too horrendous to justify our bill. The portions are pathetically small, over salted, and an insult to the material used. The yakitori don had soggy rice, overcooked eggs, and seemed microwaved. The nigiri sushi were all drenched in soy sauce, to the point my Otoro lost all its natural flavor and sweetness. The seaweed on the sushi were chewy, and the rice proportions were inconsistent. The service was equally terrible. We were made to stand for around 15 minutes though we showed up on time, and there were tables empty. When we did sit down on our tiny table 2 inches from the next table, they took a chair away from us to fill another table, and when we protested, they refused to return it. During dining, the servers constantly hovered around us, and were so impolite that they saw fit to rip the dish from under our guest's chopsticks. They filled the glasses every two seconds, even spilling water onto my plate as if they were trying to tell us to hurry up and get out of their restaurant. Do not dine here or suggest anyone to dine here. If your host invites you here, show them this review.

Had dinner with some coworkers at Momotaro and it was amazing! To start, the restaurant is really cool with a simple but great ambiance. The staff was really attentive and made sure to check in frequently. For food, we got a mix of nigiris which were amazing. My favorites were the bluefin tuna and Salmon belly, but hamachi and medium fatty tuna were exceptional as well. We loved the salmon belly so much we kept putting in orders of it. The brought us each a complimentary piece of the smoked mackerel nigiri which I wasn't a fan of to be honest. For warm dishes, we had a few things. The waygu sliders which were super tasty and came with a spicy mustard on them. They almost felt like Japanese hot dogs, but very elevated. We also had both steaks, the imperial strip was my favorite as well as the fried rice which was quite good as well. The sushi definitely was the highlight of the meal, but it was good to try the warm plates as well.Would definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyFood was fantastic especially the sushi.
Great date night ambience and very friendly helpful staff. They had a decent vegetarian menu but the choices could have been more exciting and the cocktails weren't anything outstanding for the price.

Ordered delivery at this place, didn't expect as of a good food quality as in person, but they came out to be sooooo delicious! The beef Chanhan especially was well made with fresh ingredient. Would love to check out the place again in person.

From the ambiance to the service, to the overall experience this place always impresses me every time. From date night with the husband to bringing in the in-laws from out of town or girls night. Amazing experience and must try for sushi lovers
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing! I've been disappointed with the sushi
The food was amazing! I've been disappointed with the sushi offerings in Chicago, but this place is my new go to. Everything, and I mean everything was delicious, and no, I'm not being paid for this review . I came out with a friend to celebrate her promotion and we ordered a nice variety of sushi and hot dishes. We had 3 sushi rolls, Buri, lamb chops, sliders, and the spaghetti. I tried the lemonade as well. We cleaned every plate and were stuffed.. lol. I will certainly be returning for seconds. The server was very polite and knowledgeable; the food and drinks arrived quickly as well. As you can probably tell, the restaurant is very elegant and warming. The pictures don't do it justice.

Very nice appetizers , sushi was not the best but quite good! Chahan (fried rice with beef) and the beef spaghetti were the highlights for us! We loved the spirit free drinks and the service was quite nice despite how busy the restaurant was.

Came here for valentines and it was such a special experience! Dimly lit, music wasn't too loud, service was amazing and the food was to die for. Such a great date night spot!
Be the first to ReplyAfter some research online, I came across this listed at
After some research online, I came across this listed at top 10 sushi restaurants in Chicago. Let me say it did not disappoint. The drink menu has the most creative names. One of the most popular drinks is monk's journey and it has an incorporation of matcha and a hint of sweetness. The nigiri can come ordered in one/two pieces and if you get the chef's signature dishes you are in for a treat. Otoro tasted extremely fresh and you can tell from the picture below.Would highly recommend you try some of the sushi rolls and steak skewers as well to feel full. Felt like the restaurant is more of a place to taste different types of sashimi as well as enjoy drinks with a couple of friends. It is more on the pricier side but for the quality I would say it's well worth it.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent.
Super friendly staff, fresh food, overall dining experience is always 5 stars.
Be the first to ReplyMomotaro is an upscale sushi restaurant in West Loop.
Came on a Thursday evening (with a reservation) and was seated promptly. Service was good and enjoyed the ambiance, would recommend for a date night when you want to splurge. The spaghetti was super unique and tasty (loved the beef curry) but portion size was tiny for the price. The Karai Tuna roll is spicier than I anticipated and I felt the gochujang overpowered the roll. The Shio Koji Sake roll similarly had an overpowering yuzu mousse but I enjoyed the texture added by the salmon skin. While I enjoyed my night here, would recommend you splurge on the sushi sets / additional appetizers to have the best experience.Would give a 3.5/5 if I could because the food was a bit over priced
Be the first to Replythe sushi here is fantastic.
i'm not a fan of the spaghetti or the lamb chops though.
Be the first to ReplyMade reservations for a Thursday night.
The staff is polite and professional, but not overly warm. The inside is beautiful, modern, and cozy. But if you come here, be ready to ball out.We ordered the spaghetti to start. It was interesting: flavor was fantastic. I liked the curry flavor. But portion size for $16? bro. It was so small. We each ordered 2 rolls, separately, but they brought it all out on one single plate. I kinda wish they separated them so that we didn't get confused about which rolls were who's. The gochujang and yuzu roll: the spiciness and yuzu overpowered the fish.Yellowtail scallion roll: this had quite a bit of wasabi in the roll.Staff service is upscale though. 3.5 stars if I could.
