Mountain Standard Vail Reviews from The Last Year
The menu is a bit limited with small offerings but
The menu is a bit limited with small offerings but everything is phenomenal! From the biscuits and pimento cheese to the pork shank and Nutella tiramisu. Spectacular service and tasty food. Drinks were also A+! The ambiance was okay- somewhat quiet when we first arrived but they started playing music which helped with the vibe.

Been dying to try out Mountain Standard for years!! I am ashamed to say that it took us 7 years to finally try out the place when we live just a pass away and are always in Vail. Huge regrets! Regret that it took us that long to finally discover our new go-to place in Vail. Beautiful restaurant, great bar area, amazing crew and delicious food. Not surprised though, all our restaurateur friends in Vail say MS is their favourite restaurant in the area. We've tried Basil and love it too so MS lived up to the standard for sure. Went for dinner and sat at the bar, Mr New Jersey bartender made great recommendations (sorry did not catch your name). Went back 3 days later for lunch and Brian was great. Will definitely be back!!
Great lunch!
Our first meal upon arriving. Reserved in advance during a busy Spring Break week. Quickly seated on arrival. Service was a little slow with drinks, but stayed in track with food. Mixed drinks were great, and a nice local beer selection. Food was fantastic! Definitely a go to when in town.
The Full Monty!
Great experience all the way around. Upscale mountain ambiance, great bar if you're looking to camp out, servers known their stuff, food is flavorful and excellent. We ate light in our second visit -- enjoyed the Coconut "washing machine" cocktails: started with the grilled scallops -- Bam! They rocked with Maitki mushrooms. Wedge (a bit on the lemony and smothered, rather than delicate) - puffed farro was a nice touch. Shared the Lebanese lamb dish - accented by goat cheese, fig chutney and beets -- would request it more medium, though the Chef prefers rare. Still a 5-star dish! Thanks for a great meal!
Lunch was fantastic as always.
Me and some friends came in for drinks and light apps and boy we were satisfied! I ordered a wonderful pear drink and then the wedge salad and the biscuit. The biscuit was to die for, I HIGHLY recommend. The service was great and everyone there is so friendly. Loved the food and the ambiance once again, can't wait to come back!
Great ambience and service from our waitress.
There were some mistakes in which food got brought to us by mistake. We did order the spaghetti dish with seafood but we found it too over seasoned. The family style trout dish could serve 3 and was differently southeastern Asia inspired. Will order again and the highlight.
Some restaurants don't deserve a second chance
This was our second visit to Mountain Standard this year and it only confirmed my opinion that it sucks. It's not just that it doesn't live up to the hype, our dining experience last night was truly miserable. The only reason we went there was because we were invited, but it will be our last visit. My wife and I both had mahi, it was overcooked, hard to cut and chewy, so we didn't really mind that it was a very small piece. There was some kind of rectangular tater tot thing that was fried and also overcooked. The people who invited us had some kind of trout dish (for two) which wasn't really big enough to split, had too many bones and our host declined to eat it, but didn't want to complain.
Super fun and homey feeling restaurant! Both the restaurant
Super fun and homey feeling restaurant! Both the restaurant and the staff themselves are so inviting and welcoming. Great views of the surrounding snow and right in the middle of so much to do. With all this said, the star of the show is definitely the food! Hands down the best chili I've ever had in my life. The entree was easily just as good. Such a creative menu, with very delicious additions to make a simple dish into a masterpiece. Brad, the server that took care of me was a mastermind with the menu. Explaining that they have close to 100 different menus due to the seasonality! However, I trusted him, told him what I liked, and boy did he not miss. Absolutely sold me on the food and rightfully so. Ps try the Blueberry Pie. Another recommendation from Brad, and wow! As someone who travels every week for work throughout the United States, and eats very well all over, I can confidently say that Mountain Standard is one of the best restaurants that I've ever been too. Between the hospitality, ambiance, and food. Can't wait to come back to Vail!
Chardonnay very good,Food 4/5 for Vail
Very nice wine list by the glass. Chardonnay from Burgundy was the best glass of wine I had all week in Vail.Food was upscale comfort food. I had roasted chicken( all bones intact) but it was served in a bowl with a dull knife. Interesting flavors but even with a steak knife, it was difficult to eat. Tables are close together so when full, it can get noisy.

Great service, Great food and drinks! The atmosphere is cool too especially after skiing or snowboarding.
Very popular restaurant in Vail.
Food is super prepped in advance for fast execution. We ordered and got an intricate entry that was served to us in like five minutes so that was a little disappointing when you don't even have three sips into your drink or time to unwind. The staff is on point, but very pretentious And uppity up and no sense of urgency because they act like they're doing you a favor.
Enjoyable for family.
Wait times are long but that is to be expected. Dinner was good even though there was a mistake with one of the orders. Management was very attentive and they fixed the mistake. Drinks were great. Perfect atmosphere. Really enjoyed the evening. Had a strip steak, salads, cheese toast app and the tuna poke. Would recommend the restaurant.
We had lunch on Ash Wednesday.
We didn't have a reservation, but were seated pretty quickly. Great atmosphere! I had the sweet potato chilli, excellent! I also had the biscuit minus the ham. It was good and would have been even better with the ham. My husband had the endive salad, also excellent. He had the shrimp tamales, which he also enjoyed. The reason for 4 stars, constantly approached by the server and rushed out the door.
A decline but still very good
Things have changed bit you still know what you're getting when you come here. Classic Vail lodge settings, classic New York Strip. The cocktails are a step above, we love the funny names but we love the taste even more! Both the food and drink offerings are very well balanced, many flavors working in synergy
Why has no one told me about mountain standard?!? Would I
Why has no one told me about mountain standard?!? Would I drive to Denver for the pimento cheese and biscuits alone? YES. We came during the In Between menu (between lunch and dinner) so we had limited options, but everyone was insane, so didn't feel like we missed out at alll. The biscuits have jam and prosciutto on them and flaky salt. They were soo fluffy and buttery. I'm sad we only ordered two! The wedge had the best toppings ever with your not-so-standard herb dressing. The pimento cheese is a crowd favorite per our server and I can absolutely see why. Name one thing better than warm pimento cheese with bacon jam on crusty sourdough??? Nothing. Coming back to try everything else. If you're in vail, definitely make a reservation because they're busy!
Upon arriving at Mountain Standard on a Thursday night we
Upon arriving at Mountain Standard on a Thursday night we were met with a bustling restaurant and a packed bar. Despite the long line at the door we were quickly seated as we had an 815 reservation. Service was very prompt and within a few minutes we had two tasty cocktails in front of us. We asked our server for some menu highlights and he pointed out the Pimento Dip, Bone marrow, pork shank, and trout bo saam. The Bone Marrow and Carparccio was a lot in one dish. We were advised to mix everything together but found that the saltiness of the bone marrow overpowered the Carparccio. Both were delicious but should have been separate appetizers. The Bo Saam was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The crispy trout was perfect for the lettuce wrap and who would have thought a house made buffalo dipping sauce would bring it all together. This was easily a 1 Michelin star dish. Unfortunately, we were so full we ended up not getting desert. Definitely expensive but in line with other top restaurants in Vail. I would happily return.
This place was legit.
The chef made a veggie friendly dish that should be top of the menu!! Service great, drinks great, food great, ambiance great!
My steak was really good.
So were the mashed potatos on the bone. Drinks were good. Never had an empty glass of water and went through a whole bottle.
disappointing second visit
I hate to be one of those that also do not like my dinner tonight. But unfortunately I am in that camp. Limited menu. I had to force myself to find something to order. And I wound up with the steak. With bone marrow and potato. 8oz steak almost $60. I didn't care for the bone marrow. We had the butternut squash baba ganoush to start which I did like. We had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they gave we had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they gave we had a snafu with my cocktail in the sense that they we had a snafu with my cocktail. Tonic water from a gun was flat. At a restaurant like this they shouldn't even serve tonic water from a gun. They changed it up for fever tree tonic and charged me three extra dollars lol.. our waiter was very sweet and accommodating. We ordered the pineapple upside down cake for dessert and I did not even eat it and I sent it back and they took it off the bill. But overall for $220 for two of us. Did not really care for my dinner. Wish we had gone somewhere else. Makes me sad
Few Dinner Meals
This is a fav spot for many - the Warm Pimento Cheese is a major draw. However, the dinner menu has limited choices (6ish) with repetition through the winter season years. I can never find a dinner main meal to order and settle for another appetizer as dinner. Truly, I'd be happy with an order of the Pimento Cheese for dinner.
Bring back the menu
The menu has changed. We usually look forward to chefs innovative cuisine but this time was disappointing. True… I did not bother to check the menu before coming in but it’s a place where I go more than 6 times a year. Unfortunately we settled for onion rings and wedge salad. Good as always but came back home to cook dinner.
Classic Vail Lodge-like Dining
The drinks were very unique and the atmosphere was classic, Vail, lodge-like. The pork shank and the chicken salad was tremendous. Highly recommend reservations. This place fills up fast.
Popular for a reason
Excellent high-quality meal. Top notch biscuit, grilled Mahi Mahi w/ plantain, and Italian dessert. The place was hoppin’. Good service.
The best meatery for vegetarians
There is nothing on their menu for vegetarians. Nothing. However, just ask the chef to make you anything vegetarian and it will be amazing!!!!
