Neng Jr.'s Asheville Reviews from The Last Year
If you're reading this, you have almost certainly heard
If you're reading this, you have almost certainly heard numerous things about this restaurant. Here are the surprising things: it holds 18 people but somehow oddly has 10 bathrooms? It's incredibly small. Here are the things that really blew me away. I had reservations for 845, emailed and asked about coming earlier. They responded to 2 emails in less than 10 minutes. No restaurant ever does this! Service was a really wonderful balance. The whole place has the expected hipster vibe: trucker hats, selvage denim aprons, surprisingly large glasses and so on. Adjacent that hipster cool, there is a genuine hospitality. Everyone is kind, your place is set and maintained impeccably, drinks and food are served promptly and spaced out appropriately. A real win. The food has a quality that I think is quite rare in that it is complex and layered while still being very simple. There Were several standouts. Oysters served in a Filipino inspired mignonette were balanced out by a lovely quail egg yolk resulting in a lovely mix of sweet, briney, sharp vinegar and fatty/smooth texture. Beef caldereta was a fillet chili served with charcoal roasted carrots, French beans, wax peppers and olives. Lovely. Fresh fruit with fish/spice/vinegar sauce was lovely, but would have been over the moon if all the fruit was as ripe as the perfect watermelon. Queso and peach ice cream (we got both). The Queso ice cream was very interesting . I'd love to have them try moving from a mild cheddar to something intensely salty and sharp, think seaside/coastal cheddar or a vintage Cabot. When I got a bite with sea salt and olive oil I'm pretty sure I expired temporarily but was brought back to life. Probably my best meal in Asheville since Hector closed down Chorizo or White Labs started being just ok. Thank you!!!
Excellent and Unique Dining Experience
Everything and more than I hoped it would be with selection and experience. My friend and I were able to get a variety and taste share.
Wow! This place was really a surprise.
The ambience was simply amazing. You enter through this little door in the back alley - so unassuming that you might do a double take to make sure you're at the right place. You walk in and there's a host stand. Ok looks fine. And then they bring you up the stairs and into this quaint dining room with vibrant colors, dim lighting, and an overall cheerful feeling. You feel like you've been transported to another place and time. I loved how the kitchen was framed like a stage and there were some spotlights on the chefs like we were witnessing the performance of what cooking really is - also loved the queer artwork on the walls. Now, amazingly, the food was just as good! We went during the July 4th week so they had some bbq specials - so there was a strong presence of fusion between Filipino and Southern/Appalachian cuisine. Usually, fusion restaurants can fall short - not excelling in either cuisine, but here they excelled in both. We had the BBQ plate which had longanisa sausage and carolina pulled pork. Both were very good. The sinigang wings were delicious and so unique. I loved that they made their own housemade ranch. The filipino spaghetti, while usually sweet, was smoky here for the Bbq theme. And the sides - lima and green beans were seasoned well - and my oh my was the potato salad great - I want to steal this recipe. I would come back for the potato salad alone. We finished the meal with the queso ice cream which was good and very unique. Service was excellent! This was our best and most memorable meal in Asheville. If you have time to only go to one place for dinner, let this be it.
Neng Jr's offers a delightful twist on Filipino cuisine,
Neng Jr's offers a delightful twist on Filipino cuisine, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a unique dining experience. With limited seating for around 18 guests, it's essential to make reservations well in advance. During our visit, we were fortunate to be attended to by Q, an exceptional server/bartender whose expertise and warmth elevated our dining experience. The adobo oysters, delicately topped with raw quail egg, were a standout starter, showcasing the restaurant's innovative approach to traditional flavors. Equally impressive was the black seabass kinilaw, a refreshing, spicy and flavorful dish that left us craving for more. For mains, the fried quail exceeded expectations with its tender and meaty texture, accompanied by a medley of vibrant vegetables. And finally, the duck adobo proved to be a rich and satisfying dish, perfectly encapsulating the essence of Filipino comfort food. Overall, Neng Jr's offers a memorable culinary journey that celebrates the diversity and complexity of Filipino cuisine.
Hidden Gem
The most amazing experience! Delicious and unusual menu items. Menu changes daily. Difficult to get reservations but well worth the effort.
It's so hard to get a reservation.
Floating monthly schedule. A foodie 'once in a lifetime' experience. Go!!!
Picture this: it's a Tuesday, you're swiping through Bumble
Picture this: it's a Tuesday, you're swiping through Bumble BFF™ desperately seeking a connection. When all of a sudden, ding! A match! My palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy - and I opened the message. "Hey girl! I have a reservation for neng Jr's tonight but my boyfriend just left me for the landlord so do you want to go?" Say less! Wow, this little spot tucked down a dark alley was extremely surprising. I did no research beforehand so the entire experience was unexpected. The ambiance is very romantic, low lit with close seating. There's a bar area in front of the open kitchen. The server was very kind and attentive. I tried the garlic vodka cocktail, I don't remember the name of it but I was so sure I wouldn't like it. I loved it! I was also very impressed with the accommodations for vegan folk like myself, and we ordered several dishes to try. I really liked the creamy soupy dish that normally has fish but was modified to be vegan. There wasn't a long wait for everything. I have since tried to go back but they're booked a month or so in advance. There is a waitlist you can join if you'd like to gamble! 10/10 experience, service & food!
Amazing, innovative cuisine.
Spectacular flavors, in a unique setting with top notch service! Get the Duck! Get the noodles. Get it all.
Great and unique experience in ashville.
Lucky to score a Resy while visiting but had to do it a month in advance! The service and food was amazing. The flavors bold yet subtle to enjoy. I wish I came with 4 people so we could order more things. I only wish they had small or half entree and appetizer portion sizes for 2 people vs 4 people to be able try more items. We enjoyed the oysters as a starter with the scallop crudo and a nice cocktail with coconut water. Both were excellent with nice flavors. For dinner we enjoyed the sea-bass in coconut milk broth and duck adobo to share. Both were spectacular and highly recommend getting! My only critique is I wished we were served the fish first and duck last as usually we prefer eating meat last and was richest in flavor. We were served our oysters, scallop first, then duck adobo and then at the the fish dish last. Small suggestion but doesn't take away from the service or food. Vibe is eclectic , intimate, yet focusing on food which is the star here'. Price point is great for the quality and quantity. Highly suggest going if you can score a Resy here. Worth the hype and recognitions and must visit while in ashville.
This place is an absolute delight.
I don't know how a place can feel like it is just full of love, but Neng Jrs is. The staff are all friends, they are doing this thing together, it is an homage to beloved family, they know and love good food and wine. It is super tiny. Yes, you need to get on the reservations at 10am (not 10:05, that's too late) four weeks out. But things do open up if you do the waiting list. But it is small. I'll get to the food, but the wine was spectacularly well chosen. We followed the recommendation of a Puglian wine that was intricate, interesting, and perfect with our meal. Let's get back to our theme: delightful. You do need to order the oyster, which is a perfectly balanced mix of briney oyster, hot/salty adobo and quail egg. It's just a good way to kick things off. Every dish we had was a careful balance of flavors and textures. If a dish had three primary components, you could taste all three and they worked together. This is not your place if you want to sit back with an endless bread basket and a sirloin and baked potato. Come with curiousity, openheartedness and a love of good food and you will be rewarded.
Amazing food, great staff and environment.
Dishes were creative and packed with flavor. Will be back!
I say it every time I visit my son in Asheville.
They have the best food scene anywhere I've ever been. Last night we went to Neng Jr's. It's hidden in the back of a building, & as you enter I felt like it may require a secret knock to get in. The place is small & eclectic. My son had to make reservations a month out, & what a treat! We were seated & shown a menu with incredible food inventions based on Filipino recipes. We shared 3 dishes. First the lumpia. These were simply the best I've ever had. They were super delicate tubes of veggies & pork that came with a peppery, garlicky, vinegary dipping sauce. I could have stopped here & been content. Next came the mushroom pulled noodles. This had to be one of the tastiest dishes I've ever had. It came with extra long, dense chewy noodles & lots of veggies & spices. The star of the flavoring was the serious layer of smokiness-flavoring that dominated the dish. I don't know how they imparted that flavor, but it was genius. Finally we had the duck adobo. I'm not a huge fan of duck, but this was superb. The curry, coconut, lime sauce it was bathed in ought to be sold in jars. The experience was so fun & made for a special evening.
Hidden Gem | Food Passion Appreciated | Great Food and Service
This is a hidden gem, literally. You go in thru a back door from an alley and this felt mysterious and fun. Then you go upstairs to an intimate space that seats about 20 people. We shared three plates: January fruit that included a delightful spicy/savory dipping sauce, scallops, and mushroom noodle dish. Our server outlined everything on the menu and it was clear they were passionate about their offerings. We wanted to try more dishes but we were pleasantly full (not stuffed). They timed the food perfectly. We finished one plate and then the next came out at the perfect temperature and timing. We loved the atmosphere. We are local and will be back to experience more new dishes. For those who need extra assistance (walkers or wheelchairs), this would be a bit challenging with the steps and the size of the dining room might be difficult to accommodate. Parking can be found on the street and there is a parking lot for a fee a couple of blocks from the restaurant. Reservations are a must.
Delicious
Awesome experience! The food was incredible. Would recommend sitting at the bar, as you see the amazing chefs at work. The duck adobo and pork fried rice were a big hit. Can’t wait to go back.
Rotten to the Core
Wow. What a huge disappointment! We were so looking forward to a great meal. So part of a dining experience is the food, the other items are environment and wait staff. Let me start by saying the table we ate at was front and center, this is a small place and everyone is stacked on top of one another. The chairs were wobbly and a bit uncomfortable. The tables small. Water glasses were about 5 ounces - luckily they provided a bottle for self refilling. The menu should be thrown out. It is printed in 4 point type with a crazy font. Hard to read even if you can see it in the dim light. And food takes one page, while high priced drinks and wine consume the balance of the menu. The choices of mixed cocktails are with the lowest acceptable liquor - try Old Grandad for the whiskey. This is two notches below Jim Beam. The background music was so loud I couldn't hear our server give us information. It was so loud I asked her to move closer - and then could barely hear what she had to say. Food portions were cooked well and were tasty - but selection was very limited. And I may be old fashioned, but having a waitress dressed with her mid-drift exposed (she may have been pregnant - good for her - but not for an expensive restaurant in December). We spent $100 person - one cocktail, one bottle wine, an appetizer, and three mains. So, from where I sit, expensive, so-so food, horrible environment, and don't ask about parking - there is none! Save your time and money, go elsewhere.
Tremendous!
A one of a kind experience in Asheville and that’s saying something. You have to be up for a food adventure but everything about it is magic if you are! Tough to get rsvns but call after midnight on the 25th of the month and you should find something. DO NOT PASS UP ON THE OYSTERS ADOBO! Duck Adobo is outstanding unless anything a tad on the unique vinegar spectrum doesn’t appeal. The oyster mushrooms and veg will have you scraping the last of the sauce up with your finger. We got lucky and managed to score some of the last of the season’s Muscadine grape ice cream. Worth a try in case of a last minute cancellation but….

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
