Best claypot rice in western Sing
Michelin guides are often clueless and wrong when it comes to Asian food, but theyโve got it right in this case. One of our favs in town. Add liver lapchong and salted fish for extra umami and hypertension.
Be the first to Reply5 Tips on having a better eating experience here!
Came here with my cousins. Never came here before but heard so much about it. This place is one of the few claypot places left that still uses charcoal fire. Chicken was tender and flavoursome, the rice was cooked together with the chicken, salted fish and Chinese sausages so the rice is flavoursome as well. Perfectly cooked rice, not mushy whatsoever. The burnt rice at the bottom is just right. It gives the dish a nice smokey charred flavour so don't be turned off by it.
Tip number 1: Call in advance. My cousin called in advance and we waited less than 30 mins for our food. Others who didn't call were reported to have waited more than 1 hour for it.
Tip number 2: Don't call too far in advance. For example, If you want to eat on a Friday night, DO NOT call the day before. Don't even call in the morning, they'll just tell you to call later in the afternoon after 3.30pm and hang up on you. They are closed for a few hours in the afternoon to rest and prepare for the dinner crowd. And I believe they close 1 day a week so google to double check.
Tip number 3: Don't go there expecting good service. It is a hawker centre, and they're busy. What do you expect? Just go for the food.
Tip number 4: Give the rice a good mix. Scrap the bottom of the claypot, and break up the charred rice and mix it all over even before you put the dark soy and oil. After adding your sauce and oil, give it a good mix again to make sure everything is well mixed. Too many people don't do that properly and complain saying that it is too burnt.
Tip number 5: Order soup as well. The rice can get quite heavy and it is good to have a bowl of soup to share and to wash down everything and to clean your palate.
Cheers!
Michelin is lucky to have found New Lucky
Michelin guides are dead wrong about Asian food (even in Europe - their ratings in Singapore are pathetic!). So, itโs a surprise they found this stall and gave it a Bib a Gourmand. For us, this is one of the best Claypot Rice eateries in town, especially if you like the rice a bit charred. The chicken, salted fish and lap chong are already plentiful, but you can add more protein, for instance the scrumptious liver lap chong. Several soup choices to lower the heat of the main dish. Make sure you call 30-60 minutes in advance, for the wait can be testing.

He claypot rice looked the part when it hit our table but soon the burnt smell hit us and overpowered every other taste. It wasnโt wok hei but seriously chow ta. Bitterly disappointed. We ordered 2 clay pots and 3 soups. Came up to $62 for 8 of us. Very poor customer service too. Very bad attitude.

We always order the smallest portion for two and the portion is really huge. Chicken is flavored and very tender. Must cover the pot for a while after itโs served and you will taste the slightly burnt rice at the bottom. Add in the black soya sauce to enhance the taste further. Remember to call in advance so as to get the food immediately when you arrive. If not, have to wait for at least 30-45 mins.

We had read so much about this place and we were so excited to taste the claypot chicken rice that it was a huge disappointment when we did't like the food. We ordered on the phone to avoid the 45 minute wait but they misunderstood and prepared the order as take-away instead as to eat there. That was not a problem they put the food in the claypot and problem solved.
We didn't like any flavour. Maybe it's that we are not used to them and it's an acquired taste. No idea. But we absolutely disliked the whole dish.
Nothing special!
I think the claypot rice is not too bad in term of the rice cooked till a very right texture.. the chicken meat is tender and the sausages too. You have to pour on the black soya sauce and oil. To me, nothing really spectacular as it tasted the black soya sauce to be honest. They served varieties of soup and vegetables. They probably all sold out before 9pm. We there around 8pm and seems like a last order.. locates in the food market and eat in hawker centre environment.

the very first thing is the flavor, I like the geylang better than this one.
hard to explain but IMO the black sauce is lack of kicks.
second, there is only Medium size for 2 person which cost roughly $16 for 1 person.
it's good for sharing, but I won't go here again.
waiting time is 30 min.
Best chicken claypot rice in Singapore
New Lucky Claypot Chicken rice still uses the Claypot to cook the rice and chicken using the old school merhod of charcoal fire stove. The favour of the rice is infuse with chicken and Chinese sausages and salted fish to give it distinct taste. Mix it with cooking and dark soya sauce before improve the flavour even further. This stall has maintained their standard for over a decade.

Visited this place based on a YouTube blog video. Easy to choose what you want and the food was delivered in 5 minutes. Lacking flavour and the chicken is not boneless.
