Nobu Barangaroo Reviews
Not Melbourne that’s for sure!
Disappointing experience. Not at all like Melbourne in the way of food or ambience. As we have been to Nobu Melbourne a few times we are familiar with the menu and had been excited to try Sydney. We were sat a a huge table for just the 2 of us in the centre of the room. The table would have been better suited to a party of 8 but anyway. We had a lovely view of a dirty table with the previous diner’s remnants that stayed that way for the entire time we were there. The king fish we ordered was super cold as was the plate which leads us to believe it was prepared. Surely not when sushi is your claim to fame? The creamy prawn dish (which is normally our favorite) was served in a sad little plastic bowl with wilted lettuce underneath and random mushrooms ( why?) on top. The wagyu steak had zero flavour. Please if you are going to serve it with no sauce ect please oh please season it with something, anything to make it taste and look better than the grey old piece of unloved meat we received. The crispy rice tuna was definitely crispy. If crispy means overcooked. Another favorite failing in Sydney. Come on Nobu in Sydney, there are too many other options you need to lift your game
A wonderful dining experience
Thank you Nobu for a wonderful dining experience. Our sincere thanks to Irais for making us feel comfortable, welcome and delightfully spoilt from the moment we arrived until we departed. We thoroughly enjoyed the exquisite food and wine, and the service was impeccable. We can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for somewhere special to dine in Sydney.
A Disappointing Experience at Nobu Sydney
I wanted to share my recent experience at Nobu Sydney, which, unfortunately, fell far short of expectations. My family traveled from Montreal, Quebec, to Sydney to celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday—a milestone she had dreamed of commemorating at Nobu. At the beginning of our evening, the service was outstanding. I informed both the hostess and our server, Joshua, that it was a special occasion, and I also noted it in our reservation. Initially, everything felt promising. Some dishes were excellent, while others were not to our taste—but the real issue began when we tried to address those concerns. Our server, Joshua, disappeared for approximately 45 minutes, leaving us feeling completely abandoned. Despite my attempts to flag someone down, I eventually had to leave my seat and actively search for help. When I finally managed to speak with someone, I explained our dissatisfaction with one of the dishes. Rather than offering an alternative or attempting to make things right, the matter was dismissed. To make matters worse, despite reminding multiple staff members that it was my daughter’s birthday, no one acknowledged it. By the time the bill arrived—without so much as a mention of the occasion—we were deeply disappointed. What should have been a memorable and celebratory evening turned into a frustrating experience marked by inattentive service and a lack of care. Adding to my frustration, I filled out a survey from Crown Hotels requesting follow-up, but after three weeks, no one has reached out. For a restaurant of Nobu’s caliber—and the significant expense that comes with dining there—this level of service is simply inexcusable. I had hoped for an unforgettable evening to celebrate my daughter’s milestone, but instead, we were left feeling overlooked and disappointed. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves both their service standards and their responsiveness to guest concerns.
Not worth it
I can’t believe how bad this restaurant is. We put our dietary requirements at the time of the reservation, but they treated it almost impossible request. The waiter was slow, there was no one at the reception and we had to wait so long, I really felt we were not welcome. The food was orderly from Japanese perspective, just nothing special.
Good food but very poor service
Came here for my husbands birthday/ 12 year anniversary and spent over $900. They moved our table and forgot about us after we ordered another bottle of wine and spent extra on food. They didn’t give us any desert gift and it was overall VERY rushed. The food was delicious but we are VERY disappointed in the service.
Hugely disappointing meal at my favourite restaurant in Sydney- no more! Won’t be back
I have dined at Nobu locations all over the world, including multiple visits to Nobu Sydney, it’s my favourite restaurant for all celebrations, and I have never had such a terrible experience as I did just before Christmas. Given the high standards Nobu is known for, this was truly shocking. I ordered a lobster noodle dish, only to receive two tiny pieces of lobster buried in a pile of tasteless mushrooms. It was completely unbalanced and lacked the delicate flavors I’ve come to expect from Nobu. On top of that, the vegetable tempura was not even properly coated in batter—it looked and tasted as if it had been prepared by an amateur. Once again it was just mushrooms- is that all they had left in their kitchen. To make matters worse, I was mistakenly charged for a lobster dish that I never ordered. While mistakes can happen, I would have expected much better attention to detail from a restaurant of this caliber. What made this even more baffling was that the restaurant wasn’t even busy, so there was no excuse for the poor quality of food or service. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience, and I sincerely hope that Nobu Sydney addresses these issues. For a restaurant with such a strong global reputation and my fave in Sydney this meal was a disaster.
almost cancelled
read all the latest reviews and almost cancelled but cause everyone has their own taste and expectations we kept booking and went - miso cod is lovely - perhaps we just ordered all the wrong things after that, cause is was very very average after that.....$500 later = yep, should of cancelled, i dont think they will last long in the Crown ...
Terribly gone down hill
Terrible service, terrible food and way overpriced! $30 for a cocktail and the wait time was 45mins!!! $30 for a champagne it was flat and the glass was empty. The black cod was undercooked. This restaurant was top notch back in the day would not go back !
Terrible
Wow.....I have no idea what all the hype is about. Im not sure how the seating works but we were seated in room "2" and its like a food court, if im spending $400 I would like to sit in the front area (room 1) ask for room 1 when booking. The whole experience was a disspaointment, my family was dressed to the nines as we thought this was a high end resturant and there was customers wearing ripped denim shorts for dinner?? surely there needs to be a dress code. The wagyu tacos were great but apart from them our local japenese is ten times better. I would not bother going again even if it was free!
Is very good, good enough at these prices?
Cannot fault the service it was perfect. Food was great we had the wagyu type tacos which were beautiful morsels, the tuna sashima salad was fresh and tangy, the lobster tempura with honey was a fantastic dish and the sashimi was mixed (scallop/tuna outstanding, snapper and salmon we have had better) but it was tasty, fresh and presented beautifully. Mochi to finish was nice as well. Wine menu though was poor, I expect markup but nonalcoholic wine bottles ($13 in store @ $52) and very limited 'by the glass' selections of some very average/poor wines means your options are ridiculously limited if only one person is drinking.
Terrible and expensive experience
Terrible and expensive experience last weekend with friends. It’s seems Nobu is in trouble with personnel. We arrived at 9pm and took half an hour for the waitress to get our order. Tuna Caviar was not good despite the $60 dollars price. Overall food was average. It has not been our first time, but definitely was the last.
amazing service and food
The customer service was exceptional, celebrated my daughters birthday and the staff were hospitable and quick to take orders when required. Highly recommend
Signature 7 course dinner was excellent
Dinner for 2 in Feb 2023. Have read previous reviews so we were interested to experience Nobu ourselves. We had the Nobu Omakase signature 7 course dinner. Food was excellent and 7 courses were more then enough. Service was attentive, no problems and no loud music thankfully. Found the beer and wine selection very good. Yes expensive but a memorable dinning experience. Would go back again.
Food was nice, service abysmal
3 of us went to Nobu for lunch last Saturday . The food was Nice, but, nowhere worth the price. The service was abysmal, right from the start. We were kept waiting at least 10 minutes before they showed us to our seats.they delivered the wrong food, said they would serve the correct dish, they didn’t, but they charged us, we ordered wine, they delivered it to the serving bay, but after 15 minutes we had to go & get it ourselves. We also had to pour it ourselves. The staff rather then serving customers, generally chatted amongst themselves. We complained & Han a supervisor was understanding & apologized. They asked us to complete a survey, which we did outline the above, they have done nothing , I don’t know why we completed the survey. How they can charge the sort of money they do & then provide this service is mystifying.
Super expensive low quality hotel restaurant
We booked for our daughter's significant birthday and asked for a view. We got one, over a building site. The music was an awful thumping musac that was way too loud for an upmarket establishment. When we asked to turn it down, they said they couldn't, because it was a 'DJ'! Weird. The service started out OK, but soon deteriorated. Almost harassed to order our food, when it did come out it was hard to work out how they made Japanese food so incredibly bland. Tiny. Tasteless. Served on crappy white plates you can buy at Kmart for $3. Then they forgot to take our plates away and when we tried to get their attention, we simply couldn't until I stood up. "Bill please, no tip, sorry". This is NOT a place for a special occasion. There are literally dozens of better up market restaurants in Sydney to choose from.
A lovely experience
After dining at Nobu in Dubai a few years ago and loving it, I was excited to see how Nobu in Sydney would match up. We had the Signature Seven course tasting menu and it was delightful-- I particularly enjoyed the sushi course.
No for Nobu
Super expensive. Great drinks , great service , shocking food especially given the prices. Left hungry, really disappointed
Great food but service is not up to speed
Have a business dinner here. This is the fourth time we are here, the food is always good yet the service and waitresses need more training. Water did not get top up until being ask and even so take a long time to come back. After few entrees we order rice with four main dishes. But the rice did not serve after the third mains already arrived. Have to chase it, not a five stars restaurant.
Lived up to its reputation- great experience
Beautiful restaurant with great views. Staff were super great! Food was excellent. We had the set menu and the pace of delivery was perfect. Each dish was a pleasant surprise. Desert was the show stopper for me being a sweet tooth. Green tea mochi icecream- yum.
