NOPI London Reviews from The Last Year
An Excellent and Children Friendly Lunch
We were in London for a short vacation and we went at NOPPI as a small family for lunch. We don't usually eat much at lunchtime, so I can't say whether the meal was hearty or not. Though I think we would have ordered two or three extra dishes for dinner. At lunchtime, we didn't order any main courses, but rather a delicious cocktail, various vegetarian dishes and a meat side dish for me. My granddaughter is a picky eater, so she didn't want dessert - although it was delicious - but she did like the burrata. The atmosphere at lunch was very relaxed, and no one frowned when they saw my little girl playing at the table. The service was kind and attentive and the meal left us with a wonderful gustatory memory until the next day. The price seemed more than acceptable, given the quality of the dishes, which seemed to rival those of some of the best "nouvelle cuisine fusion" restaurants we know in Paris or Brussels.
Wonderful!!!
Wonderful! My taste buds are still buzzing! Always extraordinary and balanced pairings, the dishes and especially the vegetables are sublime! And what about dessert!!! We shared small plates (count 3/pers) to discover as many dishes as possible, and it was perfect! Looking forward to coming back!
Smoke and Mirrors …..
We appreciate quality products are served however in our opinion the price didn’t match the offerings in this instance as a dinner experience. Very disappointing Burrata. Wine list ridiculously expensive - no sound average options offered. Service rough around the edges. Three different people asked if we would like to order wine when we already had some. It had been placed some distance away because of the lack of space. Food was awkwardly served - We didn’t over order but it was hard to fit the plates on the table. Tables and chunky chairs dont help. Mirrored toilets - fun but cramped and unnecessarily complicated. Heavy doors caught two peoples legs. Had been really looking forward to this but we left feeling slightly ripped off, even for the west end location.
Blessed
Second time here with about a year in between. Vibe and atmosphere unchanged, still almost full every day. This time we sat at the bar, which gives it a little more dynamism. Dishes arrived quickly, still very tasty. Nothing to complain about. Sharing concept. Good wine. London level price.
Little overpriced... lovely ood though.
Loved this restaurant... having tried to recreate many recipes from the book.. love this style of food...everything on the menu looked and read lovely....my only gripe and so sorry to say this...absolutely no value for money ... slightly overpriced...7.80 for 5 roasted baby potatos ...will say the cod was outstanding... just hard to reconcile food and price...i understand we are in a defining time for hospitality.. but not sure if pricing is the way out....service impeccable....pity.
Husband booked the wrong restaurant and was disappointed with the food
I'd been wanting to go to Ottolenghis for years (was 50 in 2020 when Covid hit so dipped out) and didnt know my husband had booked as a surprise this month to go. I didnt know the Soho restaurant was the more upmarket sister of the other restaurants and we didnt check before hand in all honesty, so this was out fault. The restaurant is nice, smallish inside, the ladies toilets are a little garish with weird mirrors on both the outside and inside of the doors (no-one wants to see themselves sat on the loo!) . The menu is a little odd... only 3 mains listed (1 being veggie - which I am) and the rest is sides or 'Veg'. I didnt fancy the veggie main (Aubergine with polenta) so opted for the Valdeon Cheesecake (in the Veg section) and was going to have a side of new potatoes with tarragon. The rest of my family chose fish as a main and 2 other meat choices from the main options plus some extra 'Veg' choice options. The fish and 4 of the 'Veg' choice options arrived (1 being my main) which was just a small terracotta side dish of melted cheese - not sure why it's called a cheesecake when it's just melted cheese, this was £17's worth of cheese apparently! as my potatoes hadnt arrived i tried a bit of the green bean side (£13 for a few cut up green beans with salsa on top) and some very dry and uninspiring aubergine circles with pomegranate on top (£13). My sister in law ate her fish and a bit of the very small portions of sides, my husband and brother in law had some of the veg to tied them over and then we all sat there with nothing. My husband and brother in law waited 20 mins for their meat mains to arrive along with my potatoes. I wasnt going to eat the potatoes after i'd finished (i was annoyed at this stage) and my sister in law had also finished. We did question the delay on the 2 meat mains and were told 'they just come when ready' - i'm afraid this is not my sort of eating style, it was so awkward to eat when others werent and also sit with an empty plate when others eating. I appreciate perhaps the more upmarket restaurants are about small and dainty tastes of dishes but i was starving when I left and we'd paid £150 per couple. We were not told of this eating style when we arrived and that the dishes come out when ready when we ordered them, we assumed all the mains and sides would come out within minutes of each other (we didnt order starters or desserts). We were not told that what we had ordered would not be enough for 4 people to share. Mostly i'm disappointed with the taste of the food, the aubergine starter was very dry and crispy round the edges. The cheesecake was nice but not worth £17 especially when the waitress told me it had Philadelphia cheese in it! Gutted was so disappointed when my husband paid so much for it but wanted it to be a suprise for me. We should have gone to the Chelsea or Islington ones instead.
Amazing food, but we felt very rushed. The restaurant needs to concentrate more on a relaxed customer experience.
The food was amazing, the vegetable dishes (celeriac, broad beans, etc) were fantastic. My only complaint is that we felt rushed. We ordered drinks, but the waiters didn’t allow us time to sit and enjoy them before insisting we order our food. The food came quickly and although we told the waiter we were sharing our dishes, they brought the food out almost all at once, rather than one or two dishes at a time. As soon as we finished dinner, they asked us to order dessert. The experience would have been better if we didn’t feel like they wanted us to get up and leave, so they could fit in another seating quickly.
Even better than in cookbooks 👍🏽
Pure ecstasy! How to delight your palate in a relaxed atmosphere. If the choice of Otolenghi restaurants is vast in London and you are staying in hyper, book and go there. Between the à la carte option and the formulas to share, it’s just sublime Cool welcome, simple and nice setting and above all delicious dishes to look and taste. Among the dishes to remember, spicy fish, chicken, beets and rhubarb dessert We're going back tomorrow 🤔
Will be back....... sooner rather than later !
A little Gem of a restaurant. Food absolutely outstanding ...... utterly exquisite. Service impeccable with wonderful suggestions from our waitress. Our family of 5 had a wonderful luncheon and an absolutely fabulous experience. Thank you so much.
Very Disappointing
As a staunch Ottolenghi fan, my goodness I was disappointed by the food here. Three of the four dishes we ordered were unbearably sweet - I would say the cauliflower dish was verging on inedible. The duck main was chewy and fatty, which was SO disappointing for a £40.00 main course. I felt hassled to order by our waitress but then waited ages for food and my friend and I ate at separate times due to the ‘food coming when it’s ready’ brand of service. In fact our broccoli side came well after we’d both finished our mains. The restaurant is chic but I’m afraid I would not dream of returning because I simply didn’t enjoy any of the food. I also left hungry and stopped at Pret on the way home…. A very disappointing way to spend £85 a head.
We had unexpectedly delicious dinner at the bar at NOPI.
The bartender was really chatty and seemed to deight in his work. My husband had a "charcoal martini" was was odd but good, or so he said. The food was inventive. The burrata appetizer was excellent as was the black key lime tart. I especially loved the homemade bread. Great spot, definitely recommend!
A disappointment.
At the outset you are informed that you have the table for 2 hours, although we were rushed from the moment we got to the table. I didn't even have my jacket off before the server asked if we wanted to order drinks. I said that I didn't have a chance to look at the menu so we needed a couple of minutes. Literally 2 minutes later the server reappeared asking for our drink order. Trying to subtly slow things down, I explained that we were going to order our drinks and some snacks and look through the rest of the menu. Before our drinks arrived we were asked what else we wanted to order. Of course, the drinks, appetizers, and first part of the main meal all arrived at the same time. At this point, I said that they need to slow things way down-- but by that point we had maybe 80% of our order on the table and we hadn't even been in there for 25 minutes. Easily some of the worst service I've had anywhere at this price point. To NOPI's credit, the food was good but it was a shame we couldn't really enjoy it.
Unfortunately they must have been having a bad night.
Upon seating us we were told we had our table For 2 hours. When our drinks game out at 20 minutes and our first of 3 appetizers at 40 minutes I was thinking, there's no way we are going to complete 2 more appetizers a main and dessert in the next 1.2 hrs. Sure enough the main course came out while all the appetizers were on the table (small table for 2) and there was no room so our server took the fish back and re delivered it later cold and soggy. They brought a fresh one but the manager came over to tell us she would add 15 minutes to the table. I've eaten at some pretty high end places in New York City, San Francisco and Chicago. I've never felt like I had a clock ticking at my table anywhere else. I decided that since we were ordering g dessert I'd ignore the time table. We went over the 2 hours because the bill came with my fish main course on the bill twice. Fish was over salted and the other main that was the eggplant casserole was over salted as well. Sad experience since we were excited to eat a Ottolenghi's famed restaurant. I have his cookbooks and will stick to cooking his dishes at home.
My dining companion and I had a late dinner here on a trip
My dining companion and I had a late dinner here on a trip to London first week in July and, while a few of the dishes were quite yummy, NOPI is going to be a NOPE next trip. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Too bad as we're big Ottolenghi fans. The main problem was the service. While not rude, it was not particularly friendly and was also extremely disorganized. My companion and I definitely felt like we were falling between the cracks. We arrived on time for our 9:15 PM reservation. Our table was not ready which was, in itself, not a big deal. We were given menus and directed over to the bar to wait, next to a little ledge where there was a tiny saucer with about 3-4 nuts sitting in it which looked to have belonged to a previous party. No one took the saucer away so we had to stare at it while we waited. A pleasant enough server asked if we wanted drinks (we didn't). We continued to wait and, not long after, another server who seemed like he might be a manager (he was wearing light blue while the other servers wore black) asked if we wanted drinks - we declined again (but were starting to feel a bit "upsold") and he told us our table would be ready soon. When we were seated - about 7 minutes later - a third (male) server escorted us to our table, carrying over that little saucer of nuts, put it on the table next to us and scurried away to fetch us water. We had to wait ANOTHER five minutes before he returned with the water and asked us for a third time if we wanted drinks. Then - and this was weird - we told him that the nuts he had put on the table weren't ours and that we didn't want those added onto our bill and also just didn't want them on our table. He seemed to not understand us, assuring us they were complimentary and for at the bar while we were waiting. We corrected him, reiterating that the nuts had not belonged to us in the first place so we did not particularly want leftover nuts belonging to a previous and unknown party sitting on our table while ate. This did raise the question though of why we had never been given our OWN nuts while we waited - or was this because we didn't order a drink? He went over the menu with us, informing us that we should order at least 4 to 6 dishes if there were two of us. He left again. We'd already decided on 5 and then were planning for a dessert. He came back, after another wait. We ordered, he went away. After another minute or so, the "manager in light blue" came up to our table to take our order (AGAIN!), recommending we order between 6-8 dishes! Felt like more upselling and also gave us the message that the staff seemed really unorganized. Why didn't he not know that the other server had already taken our order? We told him we'd already ordered and he went away. The first 3 dishes came in fairly decent time. We finished and, after a while, another (female) server, not particularly friendly and a bit impatient, asked us if we were done and whisked away the empty dishes. Then we had a wait for a while before our next two dishes (cod and potatoes) arrived. They arrived. It was plenty of food. My companion and I were stuffed from the five dishes and were really glad we had not ordered either 6 or 8 as recommended. FOOD: For our first three dishes, we we got corn fritters, char-siu cauliflower and buratta. All were very tasty, although none were revelatory - and I expect revelatory from $$$ Ottolenghi. They also might have provided a little bit of bread along with the buratta, but no - need to pay extra for that! The cod was really good and the potatoes were hot and crispy, if a bit oily and not super flavorful. We were fairly, but not ecstatically, happy with the food and agree with other reviewers that it was a bit overpriced. AMBIENCE: While we are used to loud restaurants, it was unusually loud in NOPI that evening. Seemed like there was live music playing either next door or above us.
Nopi is absolutely my favorite place to eat in London.
I always have a good time when I come here, usually bringing a friend or some family members. The service is top class and the food rotates out rather frequently so you can always get something new. They will recommend 2 to 3 dishes per person, and I think this is fair: we got six between the two of us, and We were appropriately full by the end of the meal, without feeling stuffed. As I'm sure has been mentioned elsewhere, there are individual tables and bar, seating upstairs, with a communal table downstairs that's common at a lot of Ottolenghi's restaurants. If you only have a few days in London, I highly recommend making this one of your stops.

My family and I are huge ottolenghi fans - we love all the cook books! We were so looking forward to nopi and it exceeded expectations. We're vegetarian, and the vegetables were divine. The seasonings were delightful. And don't get me started about the key lime pudding - OH MY GOD I could eat it forever. Overall loved it here!
We met our pals here for dinner a couple nights ago.
At the end of the day, we had a good meal at Nopi, but everything was absurdly overpriced (yes, taking into account London/the pound). We had far better meals here for less money and better value on our trip. For starters, the hugo cocktail was so refreshing with a perfect hint of sweetness, but you took three sips and then it was done because of all the ice in the glass. For 13 pounds: why? Not on par with the rest of the cocktail pricing in the city! The bread course was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the spiced kalamata olive oil that it was served with. The burrata was also good, as was the aubergine starter that was your typical Ottolenghi bite: bursting with different flavors that all get starring roles. The beets and labneh were lovely, but our favorite veg was the char sui cauliflower, which were magically fried in a way that we had never experience before: so crisp and tasty! For mains, we had the sea bass and lamb. The lamb was priced over 40 quid and you only got a handful of pieces that were overly fatty and not very well-cooked. The sea bass was fine, but nothing as impressive as the veggie apps. None of the desserts seemed that appealing, so we all settled on an apple sorbet that had some sort of alcohol with it. It was surprisingly effervescent and ended up being a nice finisher. Our server was very sweet, but she spoke very quickly and at times didn't seem as knowledgable about the menu when we had a couple questions. The bill ended up being over $300, which was shocking because we didn't feel like we had that much food amongst the five of us, so that was a sobering and souring final note to end on. One of us follows Ottolenghi on IG, and what seems clear since Jerusalem came out over a decade ago is that he has grown an empire that would be impossible for him to oversee intimately. Nothing tasted "homey" and we're bummed that we missed out on our Notting Hill bakery experience as well. Maybe we'll try Rovi if we're ever in London again, but we wanted more from a fellow Israeli, and Nopi just did not deliver.
This place is tasty and has fun variations on dishes.
I feel it's a bit pricey for what the dishes are. However they are very unique if you haven't had any ottolenghi restaurants. If you have, well it's a bit boring as it's a lot of the similar dishes reimagined.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
