A Chain Restaurant That Is Not Even Close to Real Italian
This is a very popular spot, with good service and a seasonal menu. Parking is, to say the lease, challenging and if you want valet, it will cost you $10. Not a good start. The restaurant is open and very nice. However, the name is very misleading - the food was more like Southern California fusion than real Italian. For example, an Italian salad was a salad with pepperoncini and some salami. The eggplant had some sort of strange spice that caused a rash on the lips. And the pizza was...well, pizza, but with more salt than you ever would see in Italy. One more point - what real Italian restaurant would not bring bread and olive oil to the table? That, plus relatively high prices for their menu items, was disappointing. Clearly not a favorite. If you want Italian food, try elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian food great service!
The restaurant was super busy. The staff tried to their hardest to get us in for a table of seven and was able to accommodate us. The food in the service was fantastic. Definitely, this is a spot that you should check out if you’re in the Irvine area! Matthew, the bartender has an excellent recommendation on drinks!
Be the first to ReplyInhospitable bar
Let's start on a positive note. I definitely recommend sitting in the dining area. The servers work well as a team, dropping off dishes and attending to customers' needs. Isabel was an outstanding server, and all who helped during our meal were friendly and efficient. The prosciutto asparagus bruschetta, beef carpaccio, spicy rigatoni vodka, and squid ink pasta were superb. However, the calamari and farmers market board were not memorable. The bar is a different situation altogether. We started in the bar while waiting for our table. The tall and short male bartenders did not smile once at any of the bar patrons. They were not overwhelmed with a crowd whatsoever (never a good reason to be stone faced when serving customers), but they didn't make any small talk or seem to want to be at work. The tall male bartender actually held his hand out to wait for my BF to pull out his credit card because he wasn't busy? Not sure, but it was bizarre. Put the bill in a glass and chat with my BF or serve another patron or smile or be normal...geez. This bar experience was enough for me to want to leave the restaurant entirely. However, my former student invited me here, so I had to stay. People go to a bar/the bar area to imbibe and have a fun time. However, my Bloody Mary was not great great, and you have already read how UNfun my experience was at the bar. I was so relieved when our table was ready. Thanks to the latter experience, lunch was salvaged.

Spent a wonderful evening here a couple of weeks ago. They were exceptionally accommodating to my friend who is in a wheelchair, making sure we were comfortable with where we were seated etc. Our servers (we experienced two different ones briefly) were fabulous, patient and friendly. All four of us enjoyed our food immensely. The appetizers, the bread were amazing! Pizza and pasta fab. We will for sure be back next time we’re in the area.
Be the first to ReplyComfortable bar seating
the wait was long even though we had a reservation. While waiting we found the bar seats surprisingly comfortable and ended up staying there. Highly recommend the funghi pizza. FYI there is a very troubled parking situation as there are too many places in a small area.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre and busy, disappointed every time
This is very close to my office and hotel, so I’ve been there several times. Certainly a good location, which might explain how busy it is. Squid ink tonnarelli was way too spicy. While it’s true that menu describes the sauce as “spicy tomato sauce”, I could barely get through it. I was sweating after two bites, I’ve been to Korean restaurants less spicy than this. I also had the Funghi pizza, which was very greasy at the bottom.

Waitress was funny and attentive, menu had plenty of options, and they were knowledgeable about dietary issues. YUM! Food had a delicious sauce, perfectly cooked seafood, and that combo made it IMPOSSIBLE to stop. Don't come here without an empty stomach!!!
Be the first to ReplyGood food, had to wait a lot to be seated
Food was fine, don't expect a classic Italian restaurant. My Pizza was good, but a little bit too greasy. We had to wait for 40 minutes outside in the cold because our table wasn't ready.
Be the first to ReplyJust Not Up to What I Expected
Four of us had reservations last Friday and when we got there (5 mins. early) we had to wait outside in the hot sun for 15 minutes! That's not too unusual but the restaurant was only about a quarter filled, so it would have been nice to let us be seated in the air conditioned restaurant! Cocktails were tasty, but not cold, as would be expected for martinis and a cosmo, nor were they served in martini glasses! They were served in tumblers!?!?! Our server, Kalannie, was wonderful. Helpful and friendly. When I was served my Argula/Avocado salad........there was NO avocado in it!!! NONE! Kalannie immediately took it back and brought some back on the side. The rest of the evening was uneventful. Good food and fantastic desserts!!!!! But I just don't think I'll come back. We spent almost $300 with tip, but were disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian meal. Try it.
We arrived for a family visit from the Midwest and were looking for a nice restaurant for our first evening out since the beginning of Covid. Crispy calamari and grilled bread for starters. They were done very well. Calamari was not too breaded nor was it chewy. And lots of greens. I had the bolognese which was tasty and well prepared. I would have liked a bit more, but I didn't really need it. I had to ask for some bread to help eat the sauce and a spoon to twirl the noodles, but that was my extras. My wife had the Strozzapreti - chicken, spinach, mushrooms and pine nuts, she asked to sub the cream sauce with olive oil, no problem. Wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable, quick and attentive. We would go back. Spread the word! 😊
Be the first to ReplyThe North is Pointless
Do not take the North in the name with any regard, everything’s goes here. Met friends here for brunch, the only place so could score a reservation for 1:30 PM, I guess inflation and recession is none existence. $7 for valet in an upscale strip mall, I guess I would walk 25 feet. Hip and trendy inviting interior bordering sports bar felling at their bar section. Food is really a mix of popular Italian dishes not specializing the North. Strangely their small dishes included some Spanish tapa flair with the brunch menu more American. Food is average and my short rib was a little salty. Not helping was our waiter was quite absent minded, a few orders items seemed to sat at kitchen longer than expected before making it to our table. The bill arrived before the dessert and the gelato was starting to melt already. I have had better pizza in hole in the wall place in Italy. But if you have a good size party and want to make sure getting seated promptly, definitely reserve ahead.

If you’re looking for great Italian, big portions, and excellent atmosphere in the John Wayne Airport area, this is a great choice. The garlic bread , Caesar salad and bolognese were excellent without high cost. Great service. A younger clientele. Fresh pasta made on set. Parking will require a short walk.
Be the first to ReplyHappy Hour is Back!
Great open air high ceiling lively restaurant with a great Happy Hour...Not a lot of items but 10.00 pizza! We also ordered the Calamari that wasn't on the Happy Hour menu.It was very good. Its more like a Calamari salad with arugula and lemon vinaigrette. It definitely could be elevated with a marinara dipping sauce or a garlic/lemon aioli for 16.00. Had to flag the sever down a few times.I get that in this returning post Covid environ its busy and they are still looking for servers. I waited on tables for 6 years in B.H. and N.Y. I "Get" how hard this job is. When a runner or bus boy/girl serves the food just don't hand it off to them "Our server did not come back and ask, "Do you need anything" ? "Check in" This can mean 20% instead of 15% Turns out we needed salt and pepper ( mainly pepper for the pizza) also the marinara for the Calamari.Something to cut the acid of more lemon. Our server was outside sweeping the patio. When she did catch our attention she was up-selling dessert or more drinks. Also say no to the Sangria its just fruit juice and sickly sweet.Decent Merlot ( although it was ice cold) So, all in all, good food, so-so service, great ambiance

I had dinner and lunch here on a business trip. The menu is decent and the staff were decent, though service was patchy at times. The food, when it arrived, was well cooked and presented. A very decent place to visit and serves well prepared food.

Each dish was better than the last. Our server Eric was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Service & Amazing Food
I was staying at the hotel across the street from North Italia and I'm so happy I was able to order my food over the phone very quickly and easily. Then I was able to walk over and pick my food up almost instantly! The gentlemen that helped me was professional and got me in and out of there within a couple of minutes. I had the Margarita and Fungi pizzas and both were cooked to perfection. I got some extra crushed chili flakes and cheese to top off the pizzas and some ranch as well. All in all, a very delightful experience and I will surely go back when I'm in town again!
