I had the pleasure of experiencing the omakase (17 piece)
I had the pleasure of experiencing the omakase (17 piece) at this restaurant, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend had been raving about it, so when a friend offered to take me while he was at work, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The quality of the fish was exceptional--so fresh and tender--that each bite was a delight. While the preparation leaned towards the modern and inventive side rather than traditional, the risks they took truly paid off. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the overall experience. Considering the price point, I believe it's definitely worth a try. There were several standout pieces, but my personal favorite was the wagyu spoon--it was like a flavor rollercoaster in my mouth, with its soft, tender texture and incredible taste. Truly a memorable omakase.

The quality of the fish was great - so fresh and tender. The preparation is definitely less traditional, more modern and inventive, but they take a lot of risks and nail them. I will say that I was sad they seared the otoro since that's so good raw, but everything else I tried here was awesome. The drink options aren't the most impressive, and the decor/service are maybe not what you'd find with a traditional Japanese spot, but I really enjoyed my meal and experience here and think it's worth a try at the price point. Definitely some pieces that were standouts!
Be the first to ReplyFirst time to try Omakase and didn't disappoint.
I like every sushi I ate. At first we ordered a 12 course sushi and during the eating process our eyes got bigger and bigger because every bite taste different. All sushi are delicious, fresh and one of a kind. We then upgraded to 17 course meal and we keep on eating until our belly is full. The only thing I don't like is the price $180 including tip and tax.

Overpriced for the quality! I love omakase so I was excited to give this one a try. The fishes were not fresh and I had a hard time differentiating the difference between each piece. Each fish tastes the same, bland and not fresh. $135 for 17 low quality pieces is not worth it at all. There are so many better and more affordable omakase places in the city. Can skip this one.

The food was perfect Service was attentive, but not Intrusive. Good noise level and comfortable while feeling intimate. Highly recommend this omakase.

I've tried probably close to 20 omakase restaurants over the past few years, and this is by far my favorite. I've been back at least 5 times and I always leave satisfied. Chefs are friendly too! Intimate space but not crowded.
Be the first to ReplyThe best sushi I have ever had.
Handled with care and made from the freshest fish. Perfection and I go whenever Im back in the neighborhood
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Omakase at a reasonable price.
We had the 17-course menu for $135 and it was a great experience. The fish was very fresh and pieces were so creative. Service was friendly and attentive in a very comfortable, intimate room. We were there for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was relatively quiet which gave it a very private atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyI had high expectations going to Maaser since I read
I had high expectations going to Maaser since I read reviews before I made the decision to come. I have only had 4 Omakase experience prior but I have regular sushi and sashimi on a monthly basis. Coming from San Francisco and Hong Kong, I have had some memorable pieces and was hoping Maaser could amaze me. Maaser certainly did not disappoint. It's a 4.5 stars Omakase overall. There were good and bad, but I'd say more good than the other. Bad thing is they charge 17 courses for $135 because 3 of them were Salmon/Ocean Trout and 4 of them were Tuna (1 lean and 3 toro). That said, I was kinda bummed that they didn't replace 2 or 3 of them with other kinds of fish or dishes to show customers more varieties. However, the good things kinda pulled me away from the bad. The flavors of most of the courses were pretty amazing and a few of them were actually mindblowing. I appreciate the different ingredients they served with the main fish/shellfish to add layers and enrich flavors, such as the salmon with onion and cherry tomato, and also the unagi with avocado, seaweed and the crunch. I assure they taste way better than my descriptions here and you will be surprised in a good way once you have tried it. I can tell they have put a lot of hard work in every single course. Most of the Omakase out there aim for customers to taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients they use, mostly want customers to taste the original flavor, sometimes enhancing them with the chef's cutting skills or/and their secret sauces. Maaser is different, they go for an extra mile and make everything unique. Once you have tried once, you may be able to find a better Omakase after, but no Omakase could replace Maaser's uniqueness and that will be why you would want to go back to Maaser.

Delicious, fresh, not crowded, low key, delicious, beautiful presentation, interior could be a little better but still very classy, great deal for sushi price
Be the first to ReplyThe best omakase spot hands down.
The omakase experience here is phenomenal, both the chefs are very sweet and friendly. The sashimi is always fresh, their special sauces and their special combinations are absolutely delicious. Each piece works sooo well with the sauce that they choose to put on it. You can't say you've had great omakase till you've come to maasers.

Great omakase experience! The seafoods are fresh and they have some cool variations of traditional omakase. I've tried both the $95 and $135 and they both serve great stuffs! Cozy atmosphere and pretty quiet and intimate. The chefs are friendly and thoughtful when it comes to dietary restrictions - my friend doesn't eat oysters and they were able to replace that with other options.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible omakase in a cozy, unassuming location.
The attention to detail and the swift, efficient and artful presentations are all top notch. We did the 17 course set, which is priced at $135pp. Ended up being a fine deal as we got caviar, artic char, wagyu, o-toro, chu-toro, Hokkaido uni and other Japan-sourced delicacies included. Service is super attentive. Will return.

Food is good and delicious but still feel hungry after 17 courses - no miso soup nor other appetizers - we end up to have 2nd round at other restaurants- lol

4.5/5 but rounding up to 5 because the chef was so nice and service was great! We both ordered the 12 course menu for $95. There were some very unique pieces with cool flavors that I thought were very good. But my favorites were the uni and toro. The uni completely melted in my mouth, I could eat that all day.We were still a little hungry at the end so we ordered another toro handroll which was simple but good. I definitely want to come back to see what their 17 course menu offers next time!
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best Omakase in the entire country, period.
I have been to every omakase spot you could think of and even the michelin star ones dont compare to Maaser. Omakase room by Maaser deserves a michelin star. The two head chefs Peter and Alan are true masters in their craft. The chefs abilities to manipulate the flavors of the fish are immaculate. I had the 17 course ($135) as well as the 13 (95$) previously. Both are worth every penny, the 17 course has a special lobster piece that was in my opinion the star of the 17 course. I would get the 17 course just for that lobster piece. Of course all the toro pieces are exceptional as well. The chefs do a great job at explaining what each piece consists of. I definitely recommend everyone to come try this place if you want to understand what true omakase is supposed to be. I will be coming here at least once every season to see what these masterminds come up with next. 10/10 would recommend to all my friends and family

Deliciously fresh food, friendly staff, and quiet atmosphere--can't ask for more!FOOD: Went with the 15 item option for omakase, and had a wonderful time with the chef. Highlights for me were the kumamoto oyster to start, ocean trout (hints of yuzu and saffron), king salmon, Hokkaido scallops, and seared otoro.VIBE: I went on a weekday evening, and the place was empty. Had a nice time chatting with the chef, and he was quite friendly in teaching us about each piece served. Restaurant was clean and quiet.

Absolutely amazing food, prepared impeccably and well worth the price tag. I had the 17 course omikaze and the variety and quality was great. The chef has all sorts of little jars and cups of accoutrements that he uses to full effect. Yuzu, pickled daikon, wasabi, ponzu, sea salt - all sorts of really interesting flavors combined with extremely high quality fish. I can't believe that this restaurant is not packed all the time. The food is absolutely amazing and with only about 15 seats, I would think it should fill up all the time. Get in there and try it before the secret gets out and it becomes impossible to get a seat!
Be the first to ReplyIt was relatively easy to get a reservation here
It was relatively easy to get a reservation here surprisingly as the quality of food was much higher than I expected! We came as a group of 6 on a Tuesday night and took up almost the entire omakase table. We ordered the 12 piece ($95), a bottle of plum sake, and cheesecake at the end. Some highlights from the meal:- The Uni was SO creamy. I usually am not a fan of uni for its briny taste and texture, but this was probably one of the only uni that blew me out of the water- The Sea Trout was incredible. The flavor of the fish contrasted perfectly with the slight acidity of the marinade on top. It was the perfect bite through the end- The Truffle Lobster had such a fantastic truffle sauce complementing the meatiness of the lobsterAll the fish were super fresh and it was clear to see the quality that went into each piece. One thing to note- the 12 piece was not enough to fill us up. We did end up going to a second dinner afterwards, so if you're going in starving, may want to temper expectations. I also did think it was interesting compared to other omakases that there were less variety of types of food. The experience was relatively quick, with one after another in rapid fire. A slightly slower pacing may have made for a slightly more upscale experience.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing.
Went for dinner for my girlfriend's birthday. The 17 course was delicious, fresh, and filling. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyGood but uneven.
Still a go-to choice for good value omakase. It's not cheap but there's reliable quality. I will say there are some uneven bites where garnishes overpower the fish or the garnishes are completely lost and unnecessary but they also pull off some sublime bites too, some with restraint and some with strong but delicious flavors. $25 corkage fee. Not a bad play if you want to save some coin.
