I highly recommend the chirashi bowl.
It comes with two pickled dishes, miso soup & tofu. Great assortment and quality for the price (especially during lunch). I appreciate that their lunch prices carry into Saturdays. There is dimmed lightning throughout the restaurant with a calming ambiance. Our food came out very quickly. Wonderful and attentive service. Parking can be a little difficult in the area. just a heads up, they do not validate.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a dinner hangout with friends.
From the outside walking past it, it always seemed closed or out of business but today I found out it was very much open. As a stark contrast to the barren exterior, the interior of the restaurant transports you to a beautiful restaurant like that of one in the heart of Tokyo. We each ordered a premium sashimi which came with an assortment of sashimi ranging from sweet shrimp to surf clam over a beef of sushi rice. The food was as delicious as the presentation and the service was impeccable. I would definitely check this place out if you're looking for a nice sashimi dinner in downtown!
Be the first to ReplyI love the ambience of this restaurant.
It's dimly lit, has tables, sushi bar and cocktail bar. I came for lunch on a Thursday and it was not busy at all. We ended up spending $100 per person and we were full and super happy. The quality of the fish and flavors were perfect. There were definitely more economical options, but we wanted something nicer so we went with the deluxe sashimi, ankimo spoon, and some nigiri. I would definitely come back.

Be the first to ReplyThis was a great find with great food.
I had a family member visiting who is a foodie. She liked the options we chose which made me feel good about choosing this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyEasily one of the best meals I've ever had.
A friend chose Ootoro for dinner so I didn't really know what I was in for and I'm not going to lie, when we first saw the menu I was a little shocked. Definitely pricier than I usually dine but when in LA right? It's still a limited menu at my budget but I ordered the chirashi bowl for $28.95 and 100% I would order it a million more times and honestly it's a steal at that price. It's positively loaded with some of the freshest fish I've ever had and it was by far the best meal of our trip. The restaurant itself is very nice with modern decor and low lighting to build the ambiance. The servers were very attentive and service was prompt - I don't think my water glass ever emptied. I'd give it more stars if I could!

Been wanting to try this place since I was told it was about to be open. Still unsure if it's the same ownership as the one in Irvine & Walnut but if it is, I have to say, the quality of fish & service at this location is a lot better than the Irvine location. At the same time, I'm not sure if the service is related to how busy the place gets; I had reservations for 6:30pm on a Thurs night & when I arrived, the place was entirely empty & only 3 parties dined in during my entire time there. So every time our dishes came, we got a detailed explanation of the order along with how it was cut & made. Makes me wonder if the service would be the same if it was a full house. All in all, it was really quiet since it was mostly empty but the place had an upscale feel. There was even a private area of about 4-6 tables if needed. Quality & taste of everything was great, much better than Irvine. Also, love how the Hamachis, Toro, & Tuna were cut so thickly & largely, made me felt I was really getting my moneys worth. Not to mention the freshness of it & how it just melts in your mouth, simply amazing. Only minor gripe was the size of the Japanese cheesecake. For $4.50, I thought it'd be cut with a lot more "surface area" but I guess with these types of restaurants, desserts are just a "taste test." Parking wise, it's DTLA so can't expect any convenience. I ended up parking at Wellers Court across the street & had 2 validation stickers but it wasn't enough as I was there for more than 2 hrs so ultimately had to pay $12 but I suppose it comes with the territory. Personally, I still believe Izakaya Osen in Irvine still reigns as the best place for omakase in terms of quality, taste, service, & pricing. But this is a place I'd consider returning to or recommending for anyone that's in the LA area & you don't mind paying for parking.

Their omakase was amazing and the chefs hooked it up with some extras! Would definitely return for that menu and the wagyu on baguette
Be the first to ReplyThis place is delicious and such a great lunch deal.
Amazing portions and such fresh fish. The toro don bowl was insane.
Be the first to ReplyIM COMING BACK SOME DAY.
I've only been here twice. I have to say everything is delicious. Usually I don't order on top of my initial order but it was so good I had to try more before I left the area.Their uni is so sweet and clean tasting. I don't get a hint of mustiness at all. They serve it with the actual sea urchin (spikey) so just be careful. 5/5Their chirashi is so flavorful despite being so simple. I just love this place 5/5I don't remember everything I've gotten but I love their food. It's stellar and I just remember my experience being something I think about from time to time again.

A hidden gem!!!!! Freshest fish, delicious pairing and a full bar, with a kick ass bartender (who's name I wish I knew) that will educate you and pair you with the perfect drink. This was the best spontaneous sushi date night I've had in a while. A must try

Great ambience and even greater food! Definitely not cheap but their quality is amazing and their selections are always fresh. If they don't happen to be the freshest the day you dine in, they won't let you order it. You can either choose from their omakase or just order a la carte (each other usually comes with 2 pieces). As far as parking, I usually just park in the Weller Court underground parking structure across the street.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has been a hit every time we've gone there.
Not cheap, but amazing under the radar place. Off the hoook sushi in LA and that is saying something. If you really want to have a great time, sit at the wine bar and meet Erik, who is the best bartender in LA with an encyclopedic knowledge of every cocktail known to man and made with many bespoke ingredients.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic, high quality and intimate setting.
Went for Valentine's Day and glad I called ahead for a reservation

Be the first to ReplyOrdered:- Chirashi bowl ($28.
95 dinner price): very fresh fish. the slices are a lot thicker than you'd expect, so you definitely can feel full if this is the only dish you eat. The rice is also super yummy and the ratio of fish:rice is perfect.Setting:- Charming ambiance with a sleek and clean interior. Parking:- I parked at the Aiso Parking structure across the street and walked over.Would definitely consider coming back, but this is one of the restaurants where I would be okay after just trying once. You get kind of what you expect, but I wasn't fully wow'ed. I was satisfied with the quantity and quality of the food. The service was great as well.

Loved the ambiance, design, and aesthetic of this restaurant from the moment I arrived and walked in. Service was very attentive and excellent. It was a nice little pit stop to make in Little Tokyo. Putting sake in a tea pot was definitely doing way too much tho - they told me they didn't have safe and then brought out this chilled sake in a tea pot. Just a weird interaction, but food and service were excellent. They had a lot of selections of fish and everything I ate was fresh and delicious. Wish I had more pictures! The presentation is really pretty.

Great quality sushi!Got to the restaurant early, around 5:45pm on a Saturday without a reservation and was seated at booth immediately. The restaurant interior is very modern and clean. It felt very zen with the decor and lighting. We ordered a wide array of sushi and sashimi, everything tasted amazingly fresh. One of the most outstanding sushi of the night was the Akamutsu - red snapper (aka the queen of sushi). Of course we had to have the king of sushi (Oo toro) as well. We ended our own "tasting course" with Miyazaki Wagyu A5 Rib Eye. For $18/oz this was the most delicious steak ever. It came with a dipping sauce, which elevates the flavor even more. Ootoro has two other locations, but this location doesn't seem as busy. It's a great choice for sushi without the wait.
Be the first to Replyhad the seasonal omakase special for my birthday yesterday
had the seasonal omakase special for my birthday yesterday evening and it was AMAZING. this was my first omakase experience and it was worth every penny. this special included 14 pieces of fish and it was quite a variety. my favorites were the miyazaki wagyu tartare, the salmon belly, and the seared ootoro. it was hard to pick because honestly everything was delicious.my boyfriend got the premium chirashi bowl which was also so worth it! the cuts of fish were thick and practically melt in your mouth.service was 10/10, we had several different servers bringing out omakase dishes and they explained what each dish was. they also sang happy birthday to me!ambiance was also a 10/10. we were able to call in around 5pm to make a 7pm reservation. we were told that reservations past 7pm are not accepted. once arrived, everyone was kind and attentive. the restaurant itself was not loud at all, and made the experience extra special. granted we came in on a tuesday evening, so i do wonder if it is this consistent on a busy weekend evening.overall i would most definitely come back here on special occasions. my boyfriend is a fisherman, so he's eaten a lot of fresh caught fish but was blown away by the quality of fish at Ootoro. we were both so impressed and have agreed this is our favorite restaurant yet!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle outside.
We were seated immediately - we went early - and felt as though our souls were given a calming break. The tables are spaciously placed and the soft music was not intrusive. The fish was fresh and the service attentive. Water was constantly filled and empty dishes promptly removed. Our favorites were the hamachi kama, the otoro (duh!) and the squid. I highly recommend also getting the iced green tea, a house blend that was perfectly mixed.
Be the first to ReplyHave dined in once and picked up on other occasion.
This will be one of the go to places moving forward. Shout out to the male server, he is so prompt it really makes you're dining experience (and even my take our experience!) special. Their fish is really fresh and enjoy the thick cuts of sashimi. Recommend their sashimi deluxe.. would be nice if the uni wasn't always out and substituted with ikura instead.
Be the first to ReplyI love Ootoro and have tried many of their other branches
I love Ootoro and have tried many of their other branches as well. I am their number 1 fan for the sashimi lunch. I order this every single time as the price is amazing for the quality and amount of food that you get. The other dishes here are a little pricey but their fish quality is impeccable so I can understand why they're priced the way they are. But if you're like me and want really good sushi while on a budget the sashimi lunch is around 20 something dollars and you get quality and quantity! I wish it was lunch time all the time

I came here during lunch for jury duty and I'm so glad I did. The staff was very attentive and sweet and as soon as you enter you see the sushi chefs hard at work with smiles on their faces.I was on a time crunch but was salivating staring at the menu options. Of course I wanted everything and what embodied that was the deluxe Chirashi. Each bite was fresh and melted like butter. I loved the variety that is show in the picture. It's so hard to pick so their selection really gave me a party in my mouth! This place def doesn't disappoint and the price range def represents the quality of food and experience!

Very high quality sushi! We went here for lunch and had the lunch special. I had the toro don and spicy tuna hand roll. It was delicious and worth every penny. Unfortunately they were not able to serve us beer with our meal due to a licensing issue. A drink would have added to the experience though I still enjoyed my meal. I certainly recommend this spot!
