Patel has done it again!
We had our New Year's Eve Dinner at Orno and Loved it! For the planned menu everything we had was delicious, but we Loved the Oysters Rockefeller, the Mushroom Ravioli With Foie Gras, and the Halibut. The Ravioli was simply amazing, we could have easily had a bowl. The flavors of the mushroom "paste", the texture of the Ravioli, and the sauce were perfect! This has to be added to the regular menu! We also order other things like the Kale Salad and the Lamb Chops. Both were delicious! The planned menu included Hazelnut/Chocolate Cake with Vanilla ice cream. The textures and flavors were perfect! This also needs to be on the regular menu! We also tried the Carrot/Butterscotch Cake, but that was just way too sweet! We Loved having our last meal of the year there! The atmosphere is warm. All of the staff was fantastic and well trained. Our server, Marjorie (I hope I got her name right, tall blonde, mature, and funny) was absolutely Lovely! Patel has done it again!

Four of us tried Orno this past Monday evening. Bar service was very slow, Appetizers were average with the mushroom pizza being the highlight. My lamb was overcooked but the other liked the fish dishes. All sides are al a carte. $500+ for the 4 of us. Kicker was valet; $18 in S Gables!

We came to Orno because of the reputation of Chef Niven Patel, based on our admiration of his efforts at Ghee, an Indian restaurant. This is an American restaurant. The fresh flavors that came through in the dishes we tried are a tribute to the chef's great efforts -- he grows as many of his veggies as possible in his own nearby farm. Consequently, the menu changes often to take advantage of what is growing. This is such a great way to celebrate being in tropical Florida!
The menu started out with a surprise. Customers who come on the early side can take advantage of being here at "Wine O Clock" -- that's the time that wines by the glass or bottle are half off. So we ordered a lovely bottle of red that instead of $68 was $34. As we were driving, we were able to cork this wine at the end and enjoy the rest at home. (Last month it was for those arriving from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.)
My husband and I shared everything to experience all the flavors. The appetizer of stracciatella, creamy cheese with arugula pesto and pine nuts and heirloom tomatoes, was the first dish to really stand up and and show off the fruits of the farm. The tomatoes were bursting with flavor, such a pleasure in February (I always wonder why in Florida the tomatoes in our grocery stores aren't better -- or they're from Guatemala when it's warm here).
That was followed by a hearty dish of cauliflower with green apple, Aleppo pepper and lemon. Then we shared an entree of tilefish (branzino is also on the menu, but tilefish was a little different) with perfect snow peas, a lovely perfectly charred offering.
For me, the most unexpectedly wonderful dish was the onion gratin, a whole onion stuffed with cheese (and horseradish?) then carmelized in a wood oven. The intense flavor was to savor.
The restaurant space is beautifully done in wood and copper, and despite it being open and quite busy, the sound level was great for talking -- other restaurants could take a lesson. There is another small space called the library (which it looks like) that is probably even quieter. But we liked sitting in the big space so we could check out the dishes being brought to other tables. And the kitchen is open for viewing at one end of the room; when I went over to see it, I ran into the chef. He asked me how I like everything, and when I praised his tomatoes, he later sent over a small bag of cherry tomatoes for me to take home. Such a nice gesture.
The staff seems to take pains to understand what goes into these dishes, which we appreciated. The service was friendly and efficient but in no way hurried.
We advise parking in the self-park garage, as it is much cheaper than the valet (It would be nice to see some break for customers) and it requires little effort.
We look forward to coming back to try the chef's other creations -- especially the bone marrow, which we just didn't have room for this time.
Fantastic food and wait staff!
My mom and I visited the restaurant for our birthdays and it was amazing. It start off rough, as the hostess said they didn’t have room for us in the “library” even though that is what I booked…but we got seated in the library, which was super nice because it’s quiet. The waitress we had, and I wish I had gotten her name, and other wait staff at our table were some of the nicest people I have ever had at a restaurant. The food as awesome! We had all vegetarian dishes, each better than the other. Mushroom pizza, cauliflower, hummus, vegetable crudités, baked potato stuffed onion and for dessert we had the s’mores. We also had white wine and our bill was around $125. All around fabulous experience, great food and super sweet and helpful wait staff!
Be the first to ReplyA nice, well decorated new restaurant with good food
We went on Sunday early evening to have a light dinner. My husband had pizza, it was good but we have had better. I had penne with a peppery sauce, tasty. We also shared a beef Tartare, which was very good. All in all, we will have to return to have their main meat courses as what we had is not enough to be able to tell if a restaurant is first class or not. Since this restaurant is very new, they still have to train their staff as they are very pleasant but one can see they need a bit of training. We were happy to have been at the "Library" part of the restaurant rather than the main dining room, as it is more quiet and not as noisy. All in all, we enjoyed it.

This is the second restaurant at the new Thesis hotel. Mamey is the first and better. The pizzas were lackluster, but the branzino and the side vegetables were delicious. The wine list is extensive and great. I had a glass of the cremant which was excellent.

I don’t know where to begin! I can’t remember the last time I ordered eight dishes and all of them were spectacular.
Ambiance: Warm glowing lights, very nicely decorated space and oversized chandelier and greenery.
Service: Excellent, our server Nico was so attentive and all his recommendations was spot on! I think there were 4/5 different team members waiting on us thought out the dinner.
Food: WOW!! I do not remember the last time all my dishes were so superb. I ordered 8 items and they were all dishes I would come back for. Two items that stood out for me are the “Petite Lettuces”. This salad was so tasty, I was not expecting the flavors to be so robust and savory! The other dish was the “Mishima Reserve Flat Iron Steak” it was perfectly cooked and you can taste quality of the meat.
Drinks: Very unique drink menu with a varied wine list. I want to return just to sit at the beautiful bar.
If you want a bit of privacy, ask to be seated in the library, that’s what I’ll be doing next time.
Everything is done right!
If you want to have amazingly prepared dishes that will make your eyes pop when you try them, this is definitely the place for you. This is the type of restaurant that focuses on details and quality. Every plate we ordered was done to perfection. The place looks great and it was really difficult to find anything to nick them on. It was even packed on a Wednesday. Nico was a wonderful server and really did his best to make sure you were happy. Orno is truly gem!
