Osteria Al Mare Monterey Reviews from The Last Year
The server was only interested in upselling everything.
Was not very personable. The food was to acidic and upset my stomach.will not be returning

Seriously I want to love this restaurant but I can't seem to understand why It took 45 min to receive a bowl of clam chowder that looked like it was out on the counter for 45 min. I understand new waiters and they are trying but after spending $17 for a glass of Pino Grigio and waiting 45 min for your soup that tastes horrible is not worth coming to....

We went there twice in a week and food was yummy, a bit toward expensive side specially if you order bottle of wine something like 80-120$/person but quality of food and service was good! I tried their salmon dish one night and chicken fettuccine another night and both were yummy! I recommend it if you want to have a nice dinner around walking distance to downtown Monterey -the wall from hotels in downtown to the restaurant by water is also fun if weather is nice!

Oof. This place was terrible. My husband and I came here a couple of months ago for appetizers and a drink. We walked in and were not acknowledged by the man who was at the host stand. After a few minutes, the waiter came by to seat us. There were 3 parties seated, including ours. Waiter was very friendly and nice. He offered us sparkling or flat water, we chose flat. He brought out a bottle which we later found out was $9. I'm aware in Italy water is usually a charge, but this is California and it would have been nice to be told up front. We ordered the burrata which was decent, and the calamari, which was oily; would not recommend. We also ordered a half carafe of white wine. The waiter poured it in front of us, and it poured out to not even 2 glasses. He commented as he was pouring that it seemed like too little for a carafe (which it was - he left the glass on our table and it said .25 liters. A carafe is usually .375 liters. Basically what we got did not even equate to 2 full glasses of wine, yet they charged us for half a bottle. Picture attached). Although the waiter made this comment and told us he would check with the manager on the size, he never got back to us. Keep in mind we never said a word. This was all brought up by him. It took quite a while to bring the food out. By the time it came out we had finished our glass of wine. We ate our food and asked for the check. 10 minutes later it arrived, and it was the check for another table. We pointed this out and the waiter apologized and said he'd be right back. Another 10 minutes go by, still no check, so we gather our things to pay up front, where we find out the water is $9 and we were still charged for a half carafe of wine that we never received. At this point we were over this place and wanted out, so we paid the bill and left. will not return. Two stars for the view and because the waiter was friendly.
Good food.
Great setting. Bar and happy hour a slight disappointment. I would return.

We came by without any reservations on a Thursday evening and were seated immediately. We opted to sit outside since it was such a nice day and it did not disappoint. Service: 3.5/5 We had 3 different waiters serving drinks, food, and taking our orders lol. The first waiter didn't serve us any complimentary bread until the second waiter noticed it and offered us some. Food: 3/5 A complete rip off for subpar food. Arancini - Dry and needed more sauce. Why didn't the chef see what was being served to us?? Tagliatelle alla Boscaiola - Salty as heck. Scallops with mushroom ravioli and toasted almonds - $42 for 2 scallops and 4 raviolis. Read it again. $42 for 2 scallops and 4 raviolis. The entire dish was drenched in oil too. Ugh. Will not come back and would not recommend.

How many times do you get to visit a restaurant where the actual owner/chef greets you personally? Not only that, but he comes to your table to give you a breakdown of the entrees that are not on the menu but fresh for that day? Mauricio was super attentive to every detail as he shared the process and ingredients that went into his dishes. He was proud and so enthusiastic while delighting us with his description of how he prepared these dishes fresh in his kitchen. The ambiance was great with lovely Italian music in the background at a perfect volume so that guests can still carry on with their conversations. The restaurant is situated with a lovely view of the marina where you can appreciate the ocean and boats. And all delicious food that is cooked fresh in the moment takes time and yes it was absolutely worth the wait! It was delizioso! Mauricio, thank you for your warm welcome.
We started our 33rd wedding anniversary weekend here.
Chefs kiss to the delicious food, Juliet had been amazing with her recommendations and her kind heart. The location and view are perfect.
This restaurant is in a great location with amazing views.
The servers were really nice and really wanted to provide the best experience. The entrees we ordered felt extremely watered down and the place seems super overpriced for the quality of food we received. The bruschetta after we added balsamic was good and we enjoyed our drinks and service. The chef even obliged our request of toasting up the bread for our pasta which was nice. The rest was meh!
Great happy hour! Good prices! Food and drinks awesome!
Great happy hour! Good prices! Food and drinks awesome! Stopped in and will define back. Give it a try !!!!!
Calamari was awful, could have been so much better.
WAY TOO SALTY!!! Halibut - WAY TOO SALTY!!! Couldn't eat either, minestrone soup just ok. Won't be coming back.

Found this restaurant along the water and found it to have terrific views, friendly staff, and affordable food. I got the spaghetti con vongole and my partner got rotelle with prosciutto. The pasta was fresh and delicious. I did find both dishes rather salty and heavy but did eat my whole plate.
Came here for a bday lunch for my girlfriend.
The views were great and they have a ton of windows. Our pasta seemed like it was freshly made and the food was delicious, although it was a little heavy on the oil. Overall the service was great and probably the highlight. I would recommend.

Food is solid, service is cheerful, portions are generous, love the views. Go when it's nice enough to sit on the patio. The main dining room can get quite loud if you're over 50 (like me). The bar feels a bit sterile and austere, it could use some softening and warmth. Regardless the quibbles won't keep me away
The owner was very welcoming and kind.
We were able to eat outside with our pup, under the heater. We ordered the Calamari and specials - Mahi Mahi and Rock Cod, and ended with the Cannolli. So delicious! We were celebrating our anniversary and it was such a great way to spend our evening.

Had a great lunch with my wife! The ambiance is terrific and the service was spectacular. Looking forward to going back for a special meal.
Cute place and decent food! Great location.
The owner was there checking if we were doing good. Got hit up by a drunk woman at the bar. 5 stars
Hidden gem
We had an excellent dinner at Osteria Al Mare. The restaurant is clean and inviting with local art on the walls. Ordered the whole crab which was large and spectacular. My partner had the short rib with polenta and he finished his whole meal with a smile on his face. Itโs a little off of the beaten path but on the water with plenty of parking.
Great spot for authentic Italian food in Monterey.
A shot walk, or really short drive, from Cannery Row overlooking the water. Every employee that we came into contact with was 100% committed to ensuring that we had an enjoyable experience.
Poorly managed.
Attn: #kitchennightmares Gordon Ramsey would tear this place apart. Sadly, it really could be great as is, if was managed properly. Cool location with a nice view of the Monterey Bay, right off Cannery Row. Nicely appointed, fun art, good energy. Food was pretty solid. Seafood seemed fresh and was the better of what we had. Ragu Ravioli was ok, I was starving so I ate it, but the kids didn't feel great after sharing the chicken (said it was chewy) fettuccine (and Clam Chowders - bland). I'd avoid those, but the salmon and calamari was pretty good. The staff generally seemed hard working and were busy and attentive, especially for the area, but poor leadership is the obvious downfall of this establishment. The gentleman who sat us was obviously an owner or manager and was trying to be nice and was busy, but his poor communication with his staff was the problem. Even though we made a reservation in advance for 6pm, we were sat at an obvious makeshift overflow table in what I assume is normally the usual path out of the kitchen, given we were ran into multiple times and our location in the middle of the room and our direct view into the kitchen of several dishes dying in the window. After 20-30 minutes he returned and opened our bottle of wine and was so frantic he almost poured wine for our middle school children. We then gave our easy appetizer order, including an order for two Shirley Temples for the girls. Another 30 minutes and no kids drinks or anything. We had to ask for them and everything else twice, from that point on. He must have forgot to relay anything to a server and no one else ever came to be our dedicated person. An hour in, we finally ordered entrees by flagging down the same man, which took another 45 minutes to arrive. After asking for them, again. Each time he came he had a lame excuse, about broken refrigerators and down computers. Why do people do this? I'm a longtime service industry veteran and you never say these details, you just apologize for the wait and then do whatever it takes to smooth things over. After asking for our bill (twice) and being offered free dessert, that never came, we finally got our bill ($170!) with no comps or anything and we had to finally pay online via Apple Pay because they never came back. Meanwhile the manager guy was literally drinking wine and toasting a large party near us (multiple times) while he kept us waiting... horrible service and it's the manager guy's fault. If you can't manage your table flow properly, you need to take less tables and spread it out. Don't be greedy and ruin our vacation dinner and waste our hard earned money. Our experience was shared (visibly) by several other patrons and I even witnessed an older lady customer having to go into the kitchen to complain and get assistance and was basically in tears. I hope you see this review and take it to heart or this restaurant is doomed.
Experience nothing like Italian
Was recommended this by our hotel. Service mediocre to OK, except when I was going to ask the waitress a question and find her putting lipstick on. How is this acceptable? We ordered and then half way through appetiser our entrees came out. Said we were still eating!! Food went back to sit under heat lamps! So complained to lipstick waitress who didn't apologise, but brought our entrees straight out. Food was rushed. We wanted at least a breather between courses. Not a chance. In Italy you have time to converse, talk and enjoy the whole process. This restaurant may be owned by italians but they have forgot their ethos/heritage. This restaurant is aimed at how Americans perceive an authentic Italian restaurant is. But it isn't. Poor service, food mediocre and even though complained to manager, got a brush off. Shame...
Food was so so
It was for a private party rehearsal dinner, waiters seemed overwhelmed and a bit unorganized. They should have assigned one waiter to particular tables, and perhaps they did but as time went by there were different waiters not knowing who ordered what and bringing drinks out and just giving them to whoever asked for them instead of giving it to the person who ordered it. It was a prix fixed menu, The food was just ok. Wait staff was friendly. Plusโs of the restaurant, they have a big parking lot.
Terrific spot!
What a great meal, great service, great view, great location! In Monterey for two nights, staying at The Jabberwock Inn. Our (wonderful) innkeepers suggested this restaurant and it was exactly right. Food was terrific and the view of the wharf can't be beat!
Delicious food, great quality service with an amazing view
Food and service are great! Would definitely go back, everything we tried on the menu was outstanding and our server made our experience even better. If you go there with children, they do consider them first for ordering and bringing food. Try de specials, you wonโt go wrong.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been โmatchedโ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!
