Really lovely location and wonderful experience.
The food was amazing and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Have recommended to others many times.

We were warmly greeted for our lunch reservation and quickly seated. Our server gave us a quick explanation of the menu and left to get our cocktails and water. Upon her return. We ordered the cricket and seed mix(quite tasty) and the red cliff lake trout + white bean spread(so good you could spread it on a flip flop and eat it). We followed this up with the tartare( again excellent the pickled mushrooms were a great addition to the dish) and the corn taco (good, but we felt an order should have 2). We ended with the the blue corn mush(this seemed a little like a wet bread pudding and could have used a little texture and the stuffed poblanos which was a little pricey at $30, but when the plate came it seemed fair as it was two large stuffed peppers...it was a huge entree and just fabulous. All in all very good, it was just so hyped up before we went it seemed like it didn't live uo to expectations and it is a fabulous concept.
Be the first to ReplyClean and cozy dining area.
The food was unique and tasty. The service was constant and knowledgeable
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is in beautiful location and the atmosphere
This restaurant is in beautiful location and the atmosphere is great. Our server didn't know anything about the actual spring menu items as she said this was her first day back after being gone a month. We were not very adventurous with what we tried but what we had was good. Was it worth the high prices, I would say no? Was it good and somewhere to try, yes.
Be the first to ReplyThe food had a unique blend of flavors that I never tasted
The food had a unique blend of flavors that I never tasted before such as elk that is corn-crusted and served with garlic squash aioli. Also, the squash custard served with meringue and bison fat caramel adds an elevated touch to a flan-like dessert. The tea was also pretty good. However, it was pretty expensive but that is to be expected with fine dining. The inside is nice and modern.

If you google this place, lots of articles will come up describing how the entire restaurant honors the native people who originally lived on the land the restaurant is on. Server attentive and super knowledgeable. Every dish was superb. Interior is understated but beautiful with a view of the river and bridge. Go if you can!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a cool restaurant! The food here is super unique.
I've never had anything like it. The tea is delicious. Servers are super helpful with explaining menu options and answer any questions you may have.

It's the simplicity of the ingredients that make this restaurant shine. Looking forward to the seasonal menu rotation.
Be the first to ReplyOwamni is a unique restaurant that everyone should try at
Owamni is a unique restaurant that everyone should try at least once. Not only will you enjoy delicious food, you will be immersed into a cultural and learning experience. Owamni only uses foods native to the area during the different seasons. The service is incredible. Each time we have gone the servers are happy to answer any questions about the menu. The food comes in small plates, and we have found it best to order a few items to share. Make a reservation further in advance because spots fill up quickly. There is a pay parking lot across the street as well.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is terrible.
Plain and simple. Pheasant was dry as can be and the blueberries didn't make it better. Over priced to claim to be "indigenous" to the area. Doubt it. regardless. It's not good. Zero flavor. Service was what you expect from a high end and reputable restaurant. Parking is non-existent. Good luck. The view is the best part. I can't believe it won beat restaurant in MN. Weird.

I have been to Owamni twice, once as a solo diner (walk-in) and again with my mother (reservation). Both times I had a grain bowl-- one with mushrooms and the other with bison, both were incredible, filling, and enough leftover for a second meal! The service was amazing, and I loved that it wasn't too loud. I love their creative drink menu, I recommend trying their teas (maple sarsaparilla is my fav). I recommend making a reservation ahead of time, especially if you have a group larger than two. I highly recommend this place, especially those with celiac/gluten-free eaters (they do not use gluten). Bathrooms and restaurant were clean, the restaurant was easy to find, and an all-around lovely experience.

Went for lunch - atmosphere and service were great and set the tone for the experience. Unique and knowledgeable! Food was delicious. Trout spread app and Elk main course were perfect shareable. We had the dessert which I can't remember when it was but we didn't care for it. We will be going back
Be the first to ReplyMy first time in a native American (and gluten free)
My first time in a native American (and gluten free) restaurant. Came on a Wednesday night for an early dinner and was able to be seated right away. Note that they don't take reservations. I guess we're lucky to be able to come on a slower night. There is a dining time limit (90 mins I believe) so keep that in mind- cabernet sauvignon (ulta violet) - really great wine! Goes great with the meat dishes.- tartar - this dish was my favorite of the night. Texture of the meat was good (not chewy at all, super tender) and pairs well with the blueberries & greens that came in the dish. Excellent!- whitefish/bean spread - I thought this was just okay.- bison tacos - Love the tortilla that came with it. The corn flavor comes through. The bison tasted really similar to pulled pork. However, I felt like it could use more sauce/flavor.- Elk sandwich - Good but there was a tiny piece of bone (?) inside the ground meat.Overall a cool experience and concept!

Will echo a lot of similar reviews on here that this is an absolute foodie must try. Amazing concept - all colonial introduced ingredients like beef, pork, chicken, dairy, wheat flour, canned sugar, etc. are removed leaving you to really taste the freshness and flavor within each dish. We ordered a lot, but my personal favorite was the Bison. The Warrior Ancho Sauce on the ribs was unreal and the meat was so juicy and tender it was falling off the bone.If possible, come with a group so you can give everything a try! The presentation of each dish alone is worth ordering more than one thing, and the dishes come out as soon as they are prepared so the experience is continuous. That being said, on a cold winter Minnesota day, a bowl of the Three Sisters Bison Stew (Bison, Squash Broth, Hominy, Black Bean, Pickled Squash) and a hot tea would be the perfect meal for one.
Be the first to ReplyHad a great experience.
We stayed close and did not plan dinner, but when we saw how close we were to Owamni,we walked over and stopped in to see if we might wait for a seat at the bar. Within 40 minutes we were seated and ordering. Fantastic food, simple menus and excellent service and staff. Thanks and can't wait to get back!!

Here's what you need to know: this is a review of the winter menu when we dined in early Mar 2023. This is one of those rare times when I had heard so much about a restaurant but it flat out underwhelmed and disappointed. Amazing concept and ethos behind the restaurant but the execution of the menu is just weak. Flavors are lacking, homogenized, and - in my opinion - lacked creativity. The texture and flavor profile of most things on the menu were so similar (so much mush, porridge, and grit like textures that it immediately became stale - metaphorically speaking g) that they were indistinguishable. And it is quite expensive for what you get.Service was fine - a little uppity and aloof - but not unkind. Basically no emotion or warmth through the interactions. The tartare didn't have the complexity or quality I was hoping for. The elk loin was such a basic seasoning and preparation, one that you could expect as a basic restaurant or at a novice cook's table. The only thing unique was that is was elk meat? I didn't understand that lack of effort at all.I have to imagine that the summer and fall menus are a lot more rewarding. We spend about $480 on 4 persons with 18% service charge and another 18% tip
Be the first to ReplyMust Try for Foodie Adventurers!Using only ingredients
Must Try for Foodie Adventurers!Using only ingredients found locally before colonialism, Owamni has some of the most unique dishes anywhere. There is no wheat, dairy, chicken, or beef- instead elk, bison, and trout! Also no pop (soda)! Our group of four shared everything except drinks, and I would recommend this so you can truly sample a variety. We started with the white bean spread and smoked trout with corn chips. Similar to hummus, creamy and tasty. The trout was light flaky and smoky not fishy.Next we received the wild rice which was so much lighter and softer that most wild rice I've experienced.Next came the beautifully presented corn cake, which did not taste as much like cornbread as I expected, but was good. It was surrounded by colorful berries and squash preserves. My favorite dish of all was served then: roasted sweet potatoes with scallion and chili oil, which was not too hot for me, but I steered clear of the more peppery pieces. My heat loving friends got into the oil and enjoyed. The main course was bison short ribs which were moist, tender & flavorful. We topped the whole feast off with the "bread pudding" which was not as sweet as you would expect for a dessert.
Be the first to ReplyBonsoir tout le monde !Let me start by saying this place
Bonsoir tout le monde !Let me start by saying this place was rather interesting, it had a lot of flavor but more natural and not spice induced. They had so many different things on the menu, we had the smoked trout which I 1000% recommend, we also had the sweet potatoes (my least favorite, as I don't like sweet potatoes, so I would not get them if you hate sweet potatoes and btw they have some kick to them), we also had the elk sandwich which dope, the bread was to die for (not literally, so don't actually die), the fried corn (my favorite) the corn was amazing I eat a pretty heavy vegan diet so this was amazing, and the way they got the corn to crunch like they was was phenomenal, absolutely crunchtastic! Then we had the venison tacos, and I'm not sure how they prepare their venison but if you eat venison theirs does NOT have they gamey taste, it's unreal! Their service was great, they have most indigenous servers, which awesome to see! Oh, btw if you like beer their wild rice beer was WILDY amazing! Even my wife whom hates beer, actually said it was great! Now, their pricing was more on the spendy side, you have to buy like multiple dishes (the food is sold to be shared by the table) so, for the two of us we got like six things and we had to bring home the potatoes ( yes I know how to count, I just forgot to take a picture of one of the meals). We ended up having a $155 meal, but pretty worth it (that was for the lunch menu btw). Their location was pretty nice, right off the Mississippi, insanely huge windows to take in the view, but not a lot of seating. Do keep in mind that you need reservations, and they book like 2 - 3 months out! Long story short, if you have the money and patience this is worth a shot. If not, I'd suggest going to therapy and taking out a loan, it's that good! XDÀ la prochaine !
Be the first to ReplyGreat concept.
I eat only gluten free foods, so the fact that they only serve gluten free foods is a boon!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and great service.
Hands down must for anyone looking for something new!! It's has amazing ambiance, right on the river. 100 out of 10 would recommend
Be the first to Replyjust had dinner there.
seriously overhyped. the staff was snotty the seating rules are ridiculous - you are not allowed to sit outside if you made a reservation and when we asked to be moved to a table away from the entrance that was also unacceptable as well. Even though there were plenty of open table. The worst part was the food was no good. Greasy sweet potatoes and vinegary zucchini for $34.00. Then there was some odd plant decoration sitting out that we were just curious about so we touched it and the bus boy just kept yelling at us "don't touch, don't touch" Why don't they have a sign explaining what it is if touching it is such a problem. Honestly, one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an eating experience not just some place you go to
This is an eating experience not just some place you go to so that you can stuff yourself. You go to appreciate the values of a traditional food system that offers plates of local and creative deliciousness. It takes an open mind and draws a feeling of gratitude. This place should be enjoyed with company. Plates shared and awed over. Crickets, flowers, elk, corn, beans and more to explore.
Be the first to Reply4.5/5I made reservations more than two months in advance
4.5/5I made reservations more than two months in advance and could only get us a lunch spot but I was happy to get a reservation for our anniversary. When you make one online it asks you for your dietary preferences and special occasion, I couldn't tell that this made any difference to our experience though. Our spot by the window upstairs was beautiful! We lunched right before their kitchen closed for the day so it seemed quieter than I expected, perhaps it's not as hard to get a spot here as others say? When you call you can't reach a human but there are plenty of spots for outdoor seating and their food truck is nearby if you can't get a spot. Staff was very kind! Our wait staff (Lucy?) seemed newer, young and shy - a little slow to serve, we had to flag her down to order more drinks but nothing I wouldn't fault them for. One of our plates did not come out together so that was a little clunky but Lucy realized it and apologized (someone else had served it for some reason - again, probably they were just trying to finish up their lunch, we didn't feel rushed). The food was actually not as good as I was expecting. I've had fresh foraged meals in Alaska and those were better so I was expecting that level or beyond. The drinks though were well worth it! A very nice experience for our "special day". Plates are small but well priced. The mushrooms on the taco seemed like they could be more fresh, or cooked better - little to no seasoning and kind of chewy. The Three Sisters open face sandwich was the best. The beans are skippable but the rice was fun since I'd never seen wild rice in that way. I loved the native drum music but if we were there when it was busier it probably would have stressed me out with all the noise.
Be the first to ReplyPutely remarkable.
A must-try if you happen to be in town. Fresh, bright, unique flavours abound in both beverages and food offerings.
