That's very Interesting Mauro, so that's why Louis D below wrote a one star review on 8/16/22 and complained about the same thing that happened to me on ( see below ) .. Stop overcharging / stealing from your customers!! No worries, i caught you stealing from me and that's what counts! Glad to hear you will be out of business soon.. Louis D.Western Springs, IL028/16/2022Our party of 4 had a horrible experience here last Saturday night.First, to be fair, the food was excellent, especially the cheese manicotti, the tonarelli with eggplant, the sea bream and the branzino. We were charged for 4 sparkling waters when we only ordered 2.We ordered two salads - one for each couple to share. However, unbeknownst to us, were served four full portions and were charged for the same.We were offered cheese manicotti by our server, who strongly implied that they were on the house. We thought we'd be given one or two manicotti. However, the server brought us two portions of two manicotti each, and we later realized that they charged us for them despite the server's representationsWe did not raise any issues while we were in the restaurant because my wife insisted that we not make a scene in the quiet and elegant venue when we were with friends. However, my wife called the restaurant while we were driving home and the (supposed) proprietor was very argumentative but he said that he'd look into our complaints. He called my wife back today and refused to refund the disputed portion of the bill (about $100) and was very rude.Suffice it to say, we will never return to Pelago despite the quality of the food.
Be the first to ReplyI give this restaurant two stars grudgingly.
The food was good, although the very expensive rack of lamb was not the best quality meat. But what outraged me was that when I ordered a bottle of Sicilian wine from Firriato, a wine with which I am quite familiar and have in my personal collection, they brought me a different wine from that winery. I generally admire the wines of Firriato, particularly the wine that I ordered, and have been to the winery in Trappani, Sicily. They said they were out of the bottle I ordered but what they brought was an excellent wine. The fact is that it was not nearly the fine quality of the wine I had ordered (far from it) and was too young to drink. The wine I ordered, was on the list for about $130 a bottle, and they had said they would "give me" the one they brought for the same price. After I complained after tasting it that the wine was not nearly as good as the one I ordered, they cut the charge to about $100. I did not send it back because it was not technically flawed, just too young. I looked the next morning on the Firriato website and the winery is selling the wine they brought to me for about $10 a bottle. My guest and I had a mid-level scotch (Glenmorangie 12 year old) and only a single entrรฉe each. No appetizer, no dessert, just an entrรฉe. I am sitting here looking at the bill and it is $386.37. The whole experience left me angry and feeling ripped offI had been sent there by the concierge at the Ritz Carlton hotel just down the street, but I don't think they will make that mistake again.

I have to admit that I was apprehensive given the number of negative reviews. Our experience was very positive and we enjoyed celebrating our 29th anniversary at Pelago. The food was excellent - buffalo mozzarella salad, veal ravioli with pistachio cream sauce and I had the veal chop. The chop was cooked perfectly with a demi glaze. It was an impressive plating including a variety of vegetables. The chop was delicious and I especially liked the roasted tomatoes. Yes, the meal was expensive, but no more than going to one of the many chain steakhouses in Chicago. The difference is in the service and attention to detail. It was an elegant experience. We thoroughly enjoyed it.Review the menu online and if you are comfortable with the prices, then you will have no regrets.

Be the first to ReplyIt's a beautiful restaurant.
The food presentation was lovely. I was very put off by the waiter's insistence on upselling expensive wine and then appetizers the table clearly wasn't interested in. The waiter brought a bottle of wine to the table while we were having cocktails and hadn't even ordered food. How are we supposed to decide on a wine before we know what we are eating? We did give in and order an overpriced wine. They served the wine before the food came and then dinner took so long I felt like the delay was intentional while they pushed us to order a second bottle. We finally relented after about the 4th suggestion by the waiter and ordered the mozzarella appetizer. They brought one for each of the 6 of us instead of one for the table. $168 for that. Entrees were 50-65 unless you ordered pasta. I had risotto. It was way undercooked. The waiter seemed to disappear after it became clear we weren't buying everything he tried to sell. Way too expensive and too high pressure.

Thoughtful, tasty, excellent array of pasta, and entrees.Atmosphere is upscale (white tablecloth) and outstanding service.Salmon was delicious Risotto was delicious Squared spaghetti and lamb Ragu dishes were fantastic Only thing to be clear on is to make sure you are clear if you want to share an app, versus ordering one for everyone in your party.Great place and delicious food

Absolutely superb dinner tonight, simple mixed greens and radicchio salad followed by two pastas we split, one with lamb ragu , the other melanzane with fresh tomatoes, followed by roasted rabbit for each of us, each dish exceptional. Service excellent--found us a reasonably priced and delicious Tuscan rosso as an alternative to some fabulous but pricey brunellos. Pelago is not for diners on a budget, rather for those who appreciate and are willing to pay for truly excellent ambiance, service and exquisitely prepared Italian food.

OH MY LORD! I was in Chicago with my daughter and we decided to go eat the first restaurant we saw coming out of the hotel so we saw pelado. It was wonderful it doesn't look like much from outside but trust me inside is magnificent not only is it appearance wise but also the staff is amazing they are very comforting and welcoming. I have never felt so comfortable before.I definitely recommend

The homemade cookies for dessert made it extra special
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful decor and was looking forward to a lovely evening.
We brought our own wine, which we decanted at home for hours before we left. It did not fall within the parameters of what was not allowed. It was not Italian nor Champagne. Our server whisked it away to show the chef and he came flying out of the kitchen saying sorry we could not have this wine as it was already opened. Explained why we opened a Burgundy and let it open up before having it. He was agitated and I calmly tried to express we didn't do anything wrong - nowhere on the website did it say you couldn't bring a wine that had been decanted. We like to take our time enjoying each course and when we didn't order fast enough the menus were rudely taken away. After enjoying our pasta dish we were ready to order the next course when a different server brought us a dessert menu implying time to get finished and out ( and the restaurant was not at capacity at all). Water was not replenished after halfway through the meal although we were charged for two bottle of still water at $9 each. Corkage is 50 and if they decant they add another $5. We brought a decanted wine yet they charged us for decanting. Glad we didn't place the entree order or we would have been out more money. We dine out frequently at all levels of cuisine and pricing and this was the most disappointing waste of money. Be aware of the push of items not on the menu that turn out quite costly.
